I know the "why can't you just let characters be friends" BS is mostly used by homophobic morons, but I do believe that there's a problem with characters being unable to interact if they're not romantically involved (or related).

It just feels like no characters can be friends without a familial aspect being applied to their relationship. No one just hangs out with people. No one goes out with their best friends the moment they gain a love interest.

Platonic relationships are still seen as way less important or even worthless compared to romantic ones. If a character is single at the end of a series, they WILL be paired with another single character by the fanbase. Even if the character is canonically aromantic, or happily single, or a child, they must have a love interest eventually.
