I updated my Hans/Henry playlist somewhat (still with the intention that all the music included sounds like something you could realistically hear back then. Or at least at medieval fairs). Many of them are instrumental, though not all!

There is an actual reasoning for most songs, and in the fashion of playlist of ye olde days, I'll write an explanation for them below the cut.

(the youtube one has more songs simply because some do not exist on spotify, but I tried to match them as much as possible)

Explanation:

The Medievals - Schiarazula Marazula the melody has a long history and with a variety of lyrics accompanying it. Eventually Angelo Branduardi transcribed it with lyrics from the point of view of Death, and although in medieval times it probably was not associated with Death, I thought it might be a good starting point - Hans and Henry meet because of the tragedy of Skalitz.

Gothien - Saderaladon a silly song about a peasant, at the beginning of spring, woken up by a nightingale's song. The peasant joins the bird by playing a citole. In the last verse (which is missing in Gothien's version), the bird gets angry that a peasant heard it :D I thought the song fits the Hans-Henry KCD1 relationship very well

Kalabalik - La Sansonette; Klíč - Taneček; Gallagher's Frolics; Musica Canora - Skudrinka; Jar - Słowiański Taniec; Elthin - Czaldy waldy A string of dance songs, I thought it might be a good way to symbolize the majority of the KCD2 relationship - there's a lot of pushing and pulling, running around and rejoining only to be separated again. I did go for happy-sounding melodies since Hans and Henry are comfortable enough with one another

Elthin - Douce dame Jolie (& Francouzský tanec - Středověká hudba) A popular medieval love song. I wanted some French melody to represent the Taking The French Leave quest. Henry and Hans are reunited, Hans speaks in a very soft and heartfelt way during and after it. Although in game the romance doesn't begin just yet, the feelings are there.

Oj chmielu ("Oh, Hop") A Polish folk song sung during weddings, to symbolize Hans receiving the news about his marriage. This rendition has a rather desperate, fearful vibe which I find very fitting.

Veratus - Vänner och Fränder Another song to symbolize Hans' fears about the wedding. The song is about a girl who was to be married to a prince, but chose to run away with her true love - the poor Roland.

Bryd one breere ("Bird on a briar") A song that is a plea for love "Gracious lady, on me have pity; or prepare for me my grave." Thought that it would be a good way to show the internal thoughts Hans has towards Henry before the romance scene.

Otep myrhy ("A Bundle of Myrrh") & Andělíku rozkochaný ("Frolicking Little Angel") Czech love songs to represent reciprocated love.

Veratus - Laude novella sia cantata A prayer to Virgin Mary for safety; to represent Hans' point of view during Henry's suicide mission. Veratus' version has this lovely quick, upbeat melody, I think it's very nice at conveying urgency rather than despair.

Corvus Corax - Mit Dans is all die werlt genesen ("With dance the whole world is healed") To represent a happy ending.

what do y’all think illario’s hobbies are? what is he interested in? what does he do in his spare time? what does he know a lot about the nobody would expect? what did he love as a kid that he hasn’t thought about in years but could jump back into in a heartbeat if given the chance? what are his wyverns and cooking and knitting and romance novels?

who would he be if you took him away from his family and his job and the politics of it all? i don’t think he even knows the answer to that, but there still has to be an answer!

the ongoing quest of mine to cover 'no more what ifs' that i kind of never get around to sitting down and doing properly. here's my latest go at it though (here is the instrumental i used)

i also fucked with it to make it sound more like it's playing out of a crappy old radio... for... fun. so it's crunched.

#i don't really know anything about sound mixing though. so i would mostly just call it intentionally crunchy #rook noises #p5 #i also have the clean vocals so i like might... clean it up and put it on yt at some point? idk. this is one take so i gotta fix some shit #i always wanted this song to be kind of crunchier and more muddy sounding than it is though you know for the old jazz vibes #so i slowed it down by like 5% bc i want it to have that kind of old loungey feeling. my voice is also lower than lyn's...#so... i pitched up the track so i could do it down the octave also. partly so i can sing it but partly also for that vibe #anyway... here's wonderwall... watch the instrumental break in the middle... i turned down the gain on the loud bit but if you're #listening with headphones turned up it might get a lil peaky

Was forced to watch a truly incredible (derogatory) thing recently.

A young person on twitter, adamant that transandrophobia doesn't exist on the grounds that 'no one is killing/raping/assaulting trans men'.

Several people responded, including some linking articles about murders and assaults on trans men and a couple op-ed style pieces of trans men talking about their own experiences.

Said young person responded with "I'm not reading those its triggering and I'm a minor"

So let me see if I've got this correct, you are knowingly refuse to acknowledge reality because it's upsetting to you and then you're going to turn around and deny that very reality because you refuse to acknowledge it because it's upsetting?

#like I'm sorry but willful ignorance is not a winning argument?#transandrophobia #its things like this that really have me convinced that we're never actually going to fix this shit #i was talking to the woman who runs the lgbt center i was going to #shes been running it in some capacity for about 30 years now #and she was saying that ever since they reopened after covid they have a problem getting people to keep coming #and its mostly because young people will come a few times and then something makes them uncomfortable and they never come back #but the things that make them uncomfortable are things like 'a homeless kid came to get a shower and a meal'#or 'the donated instruments in the music room arent good enough quality and they dont want to use poor people instruments'#those are both real examples btw #i hate to be the one to say it #but you cannot form community if you refuse to be uncomfortable sometimes #op

It’s pretty common to interpret the turtles having chirped and hissed a lot more when they were children, but I’m imagining if vDonnie just not having the socialization to grow out of it. I’m picturing one of their first meetings involving Donnie doing a (performative, yes) evil laugh, but it’s overlaid with these little chirps, and he doesn’t really think about it until Leo points it out and makes fun of it "What are you? Three?" Donnie practices holding those in for his evil laugh after that

And later, once he’s accepted into the family, Leo will notice when Donnie catches himself chirping out of genuine joy and covering it up with fake coughing

OUGGHH yeah he probably spent a long time exclusively making those kind of noises before he started to pick up speech too.... i tend to imagine donnie in general as more vocal than his brothers (its a somewhat common hc in the fandom, ive noticed... the urge to make him a Creature lmfao) but i think v!don especially would do it a lot. its one of those things he'd recognize as different from humans, but wouldnt think to suppress around his brothers until its pointed out. and it will probably be in the form of leo making fun of it. as much as he fumes and insists that he cant control it shut UUUPPPP >:( in the moment, he'll definitely go home and try to figure out how to control himself after.

he wasnt aware it made him seem... young. he certainly doesnt see himself as young. he's fourteen, that's practically an adult, right? he doesn't want them to see him like a stupid kid, he's pretty much grown up. so he goes forward suppressing it and feeling embarrassed when he cant. it's worse when he does start to feel more happy and comfortable and he'll start making little noises he didn't even know he could make, like that thing that i drew with the purring. initially his response is "am i DYING" and then it's "that's so stupid and embarrassing, pretend it never happened" followed by him fleeing lmfao

#ask #villain donnie au #v!don has this really high opinion of himself and his perceived maturity #but he's actually more immature than his canon counterpart. he's very kid-like in a lot of ways #and that's mostly the absence of the instrumental parentification speaking; he's pretty emotionally stunted due to being unsocialized #and he's never had to feel super responsible for other people before #but he'd get upset if it was acknowledged! its a big reason he's so mean to splinter outside of the bitterness #he would call him a little boy and he'd get super upset and offended #not in the indignant teenage way but ACTUALLY. he raised himself. nobody's earned the right to call him that #i feel like he'd react funny if raph called him his little brother completely earnest too. especially because its a while before they-#-get to that point #there is kind of a shift in the dynamic when donnie goes from raph's ''younger brother'' to ''little brother'' lmao

I described Liu Qingge as a Barber's "Adagio for Strings" background music man living in a majority "Yakety Sax" bgm world in a response to a fic comment a few days ago now which I do stand by and think is LARGELY true but it's also made me think about my bgm theme headcanons for other SVSSS characters. So here's a list. These are all, of course, Objectively Correct and True*:

Liu Qingge: Barber's "Adagio for Strings". I started the post with this one so I'm starting the list with him. The stereotypic Romantic Yearning Orchestral Strings. He's a classic tragic romantic hero stuck in satirical porn world. Free him.

Shen (Yuan) Qingqiu: In general, "If I Ever Feel Better" by Phoenix. Post-Abyss it's undeniably "Youth" by Daughter, because it's both a sad sack song and "shadows settle on the place that you left/ our minds are troubled by the emptiness" is the SY Post-Abyss manifesto. Post-Maigu Ridge you could probably give him any sappy love song but I like The Magnetic Fields' "The Book of Love". Thematic!

Luo Binghe: Pre-Abyss there are sooo many options, but I'm choosing "Mr Blue Sky" by the Electric Light Orchestra for how much it'd make Ming Fan want to punch him if he could hear it. Post-Abyss/Dirt Nap Era you'd think "Boa Constrictor" by the Magnetic Fields would be a Zhuzhi-lang pick but haha nooo this is a Binghe song 100%. Post-Maigu Ridge I think "Hold on When You Get Love And Let Go When You Get It" by Stars but I'm willing to hear arguments here.

Ming Fan: The idea that Ming Fan is the only one that can hear non-diagetic sounds is going to give me a brainworm now. Anyway. His bgm theme is 100% "Not Your Year" by the Weepies.

Ning Yingying: NYY may be my most vibes-based decision but "They Never Got You" by Spoon seems appropriate for the first harem escapee (chronologically).

Yue Qingyuan: "Thrift Shop Warrior" by J. Ralph. That is all.

Tianlang Jun: "Entry of the Gladiators" by Julius Fucik. Because he's a clown. (More seriously, there are a lot of layers in a song about gladiatorial combat being reduced to 'the clown song' and the layers of performance TLJ puts on even in his violence—BUT ANYWAY)

Zhuzhi-lang: "From Eden" by Hozier feels like a gimme but it is also. Deeply applicable.

Shang Qinghua: 24/7 "Yakety Sax" hours.

Mobei Jun: MBJ could be "Ice Ice Baby" by Vanilla Ice for the joke points OR "Under Pressure" by Queen and David Bowie for the characterization points. He has the range 😌
