I've been trying and failing to come up with a good Shadow Crystal Battat concept because that man would never admit he's trapped. You can't get him to ramble about freedom because he will do anything to not have to think about how he's trapped in a prison of his own making. Which is thematically appropriate but doesn't make for great dialogue

HE MET THEM??????#so basically now he wants to know everything not only about his reality; but also about the Depths and OUR reality too #his lack of freedom is visually represented as him being tangled with his own red string. he got himself into this #and he feels like he HAS to figure everything out right? because he's in too deep now.#he didn't isolate himself and ruin his own mind to give up now that he's SO CLOSE.....#... that still doesn't help with the problem this post is about. he'd never admit he feels trapped #and like it's clear from the context; but if you don't say the word Freedom are you really a secret boss /silly #maybe he'd be quick to accuse others of not knowing shit;not knowing they're not even free #because they don't know what he knows? and if they DO know (like ralsei) he'd see it as settling for being trapped?#because. battat isn't SETTLING for being trapped. he IS; and he's actively making it worse; but he's not settling for it!
