The castle of Monzón was the last Knights Templar stronghold in Aragón🇪🇦. When the Pope Clement V yielded in the Templar matter to Philip IV of France👑, known as The Fair, the Military Order had its days counted. After the first arrests⛓️ in France, confessions were extracted under torture. Thus, the pontiff decreed that the Templars be arrested throughout Europe⚔️. During 1308, Jaume II of Aragon gradually took over the fortresses of the Temple of his kingdom. He did so reluctantly and treated the captives well. My guiltiest pleasure is watching the boys on Oak Island in the most televised treasure hunt ever. Templars may have hidden one of the greatest treasures of all time on the island—possibly the Holy Grail—but no one to date has been able to find it.

This season, brothers Rick and Marty Lagina are investing $2,000,000 on modern technology to solve the mystery as we watch. To begin, they announced they are (finally!) digging the Money Pit and draining the strange triangular and probably man-made swamp for clues. One legend says King Solomon had a pit similar to the Money Pit but a second pit storing the Ark of the Covenant was dug some distance away. That same distance would put the second pit in the heart of the swamp.

In true Rick and Marty fashion, they spend the majority of episode 1 on distractions. They chase a lead on a Templar fortress in New Ross, Nova Scotia and follow up an unsubstantiated treasure map of Oak Island to another point called the “Hatch” further stretching out their resources in the short northern winter.

Despite their haphazard approach, I can’t help but watch. How astounding would it be if they found an ancient relic the Templars tried to safeguard?! It’s time for this over 200 year old mystery to be solved!

            Bernard of Clairvaux, Saint Bernard, was an abbot, mystic and co-founder of the Knights Templar. When Pope Honorius II died in 1130, Bernard supported Pope Innocent II. Bernard advocated crusades and convinced many to participate in the Second Crusade, which was unsuccessful. He was canonized 21 years after his death by Pope Alexander III.
