I've never been terribly active here but I've returned to share my favourite patterns that make me slightly uncomfy and/or ready to star in an absolutely CRACKING sci-fi miniseries, please enjoy.

DEGEN ADULT EYES SWEATER by Lindsay Degen
Who WOULDN'T want this Biblically accurate sweater? The perfect attire for every horrifying occasion.

#22 Raglan Sleeve Pullover by Laura Zukaite
The rather staid naming of this sweater belies its Mad Max energy. After the apocalypse comes for us I hope we can at least dress like this.

Open Waters Shawl by Melanie Berg
A good shawl to wear to a duel to the death with your mortal enemy, if your mortal enemy has trypophobia.

Romanesco Jumper by Ranti Ehinmola
Honestly, the number of variations shown in the project photos for this pattern is amazing. Not only can you fulfill your dreams of looking like a 5th Element villain, you can do it your way.

DEGEN HOLE SWEATER by Lindsay Degen
This is a practical pattern for people like me who are in denial about living in a desert and stubbornly insist on wearing knitwear despite ample evidence this is a bad idea.

Wilderness by Martin Storey
I absolutely adore the 1950s farmhouse vibe of this photo and the beauty and poise of the model juxtaposed with the fact that she looks like a human bittermelon and she is fucking KILLING it

# 17 Patterned Sweater with V-Yoke by Sabrina/Sandra team designers
An unassuming mass-produced pattern from the 90s that, just coincidentally, looks like something you'd wear to head an intergalactic delegation.

Blume by Norah Gaughan
Speaking of space sweaters, here's another that wouldn't look out of place on the bridge of a starship.

Mullion by Martin Storey
This one, on the other hand, looks more like attire for a... space council?

Space Odyssey by Anna Strandberg
This pattern is literally called "Space Odyssey". The author definitely knows.

Dark Moss Pullover by Teti Lutsak
Bringing things back to Earth, the way these broad cables fade into the fabric reminds me of my desire to be buried in one of those mushroom suits after I die. Your interpretation may vary.

Waterbender by Yiğitcan / Pufido
The ultimate in dramatic sleeves.

Day Dreams by Stacy Collingham
Finally... I think the Power Rangers fought this sweater.

so Pacific Knit Company sells what they call 'doodle' deck, which are full or half decks of cards with knitting patterns on them. Every motif is 24 stitches wide, and a variable amount of stitches tall. The cardstock is comparable to playing cards.
You can shuffle the cards to get a randomized pattern, you can pick out the patterns you think would make a neat hat or scarf (or socks or sweaters, if you're willing to do a bit more work), you can mix-and-match the decks.
And each deck comes with three cards of instructions, including how to make a single-sided cowl and an infinity cowl using the cards.

Things currently on the first page of the "hot right now" section of knitting patterns search page on ravelry:
Several basic raglan sweaters
Mesh/fishnet sweater covered in sequins.
A dissected rat; complete with internal organs
Cute vest with stylized flowers
Two different sweaters (one pullover, one cardigan) with the same unicorn tapestry design by the same designer. Each pattern is $13 and there isn't a discount for buying both and neither pattern description mentions the other pattern. Designers can and should charge what they want for their work but this feels like a wild choice to me TBH.
Thong/Speedo "bulge" version-- ie designed for people with a penis. This pattern is no longer available??? Why is it on the hot right now page?????
Cute Christmas fair isle sweater.
Coin purse in shape of ten week old fetus.
Ranunculus sweater. Obviously.
Bookmark in shape of squished rat; complete with blood puddle.
Headband with extremely impressive goat horns and little ears. It's free and went in my library immediately.
5 different PetiteKnit patterns that still somehow look exactly the same.
Purse in the shape of grotesque head. For some reason the featured example includes a real cat tooth????
Hood with lamb ears being modeled by depressed young man.
That sweater with all the eyes which calls for yarn that is $58 per skein??
Hat that looks like a dead fish, but in a cute way.
Latest Stephen West shawl.
I don't know whats happening but the trending page pattern page has never been so chaotic. I am obsessed. Let's have more dead rat patterns and fewer tastefully boring PetitKnit patterns.
#adventures in knitting#knit snark#knitting#ravelry#knitting patterns#i don't actually have anything against PetitKnits#I just don't find their work very interesting#i ALSO don't have anything against very expensive yarn#i just find the idea of investing $250+ dollars into a novelty sweater hysterically funny#truly iconic rich kid from new york choices being made there#74 people have project pages for that sweater#0 of them are using the called for yarn#so clearly i am correct on this one#this page is also very nicodemus coded somehow#2025 is having a wild start i think

Hey! I saw an episode of All creatures big and small and suddenly felt the urge to knit (a LOT of nice knitwear in those series). I picked a free pattern from DROPS with a textured knit and decided to do it in white with shorter sleeves so it'd work as a more dressed up version of a white t-shirt. Fair warning though that the measurent from the armpit to the bottom is wayyyy off in the pattern!! If you want to knit it toss the instruction and just measure on yourself how long the body should be. But hey, it was free ☺

I just found the most amazing knitting pattern for a dragon plushie. The dragon is beautiful and the entire pattern has videos showing how it is made, absolutely amazing.

Just look at it! It is so beautiful

The little wings!

The toenails on this one omg

And it seems relatively easy to do- at least the process is incredibly well explained from what I have seen, with a written pattern and videos. Anyway, it is insane, the videos don't have as many views as you would think, and there were so many dragons. I probably put in too many photos on this post but I love them all so much. I am going to make this the second I can- unfortunately I don't think this is a "do in class as a stim" project.

One of my most popular (and still receiving notes) posts is one linking to vintage knit patterns on Project Gutenberg. But another source for vintage knitting pattern is Archive.org (the link immediately leads to the knitting patterns published chronologically).
There are a lot of patterns from Yarn Catalogues (Patons, Rowan), but also a lot of books (though you'd need to have an account to access the books). A lot more plentiful than Project Gutenberg.

Notes on Knitting Brioche by Nancy Marchant

Welp, I think I just found the limits of my knitting knowledge, because I'm pretty sure this book actually teaches witchcraft. Actually, no, I had a witchcraft phase. This is perceiving the 7th dimension and making it dance a jig. Dunno how helpful this one will be, but let's give it a go.
Okay, so brioche knitting is kind of a double layered ribbed knit technique that is stunningly beautiful. It can be done in just one color, but I gotta say I adore looking at at the multicolor ones, like on the cover of the book. And it's a great technique to have in your knitting arsenal if you live in a cold climate. Which I do not.
I'm pretty sure that if you're comfortable with color stranded knitting and lace, you'll have a reasonably easy time following the directions in the book. However, I'm literally hoping to learn the first technique this year, and have to look up my increases and decreases every time they come up, so let's just say that I am not a lace master.
I swearsies the pictures in this book are super clear. The author teaches you how to work every needed stitch in a single color, and then the next chapter reviews every single stitch for the double color techniques. It is detailed. It's just that I'm like a middle schooler trying to read a graduate level textbook right now.
There's an entire section on stitch patterns you can do with the basic stitches.
The patterns are fairly basic once you know the brioche techniques. Most of the tops go up to 50+ inches. The few that don't are designed to not meet over the bust. There are masculine AND feminine designs. I'm shocked. This book was published in 2009.
So... in a few years, if I manage to practice my knitting enough, I might hunt this down again. Or might not. I really do live in a warm climate. Now that I understand how thick this stitch pattern is, I'm overheating from just looking at it.
