i've seen it floating around that derpy and sussie (jinu's tiger and bird) are some form of demons as well, but i really don't think they are

i think, instead, they're creatures associated with the same form of magic that allows the honmoon to exist, and exist in harmony with both it and the demon world. they're the narrative bridge between rumi and jinu...

while demons cross the honmoon via angry red tears, derpy triggers its usual cool blue tones when using it to travel

(sorry for the quality here lol the only clip i could find of this shot was a tiktok)

and, notably, they weren't stuck in the demon realm after huntr/x created a new honmoon

we don't see any other creatures like them in what we see of the demon world, and they seem to act independently from gwi-ma. so what's their deal? how did jinu get these guys as friends?

this has just occurred to me while typing, but... could they be connected to jinu's mother and sister, somehow? there's a lot of ways that could work, or it could be irrelevant, idk

i don't know enough about korean folklore to speculate further, but it's very interesting, and very casual worldbuilding from the team. subtle enough to fly under the radar as something unimportant, but carries a lot of implications if you look a little harder

Do the tiger & bird demons have names? In my brain ive sort of been referring to them as Teef/blue n Blink/hat (teef or blue as the tiger & blink or hat as the bird)

Honestly an acceptable name.

But yeah nah, their names are actually that on-the-nose: Derpy and Kkachi. "Kkachi" is "magpie" in Korean. There were versions of the script where Rumi and Jinu would actually refer to Derpy by name, but i think story points changed to the point where dialogue w/ Derpy was no longer necessary, so neither name was ever spoken aloud XD

But hey, if it's never said aloud, is it actually canon? >__>

that's a big ass cat jinu x reader if you squint (who am i kidding it's right there) chosen from @im-sidney's prompt list!

“oh what a cute cat!” the delivery person exclaimed, the pizza wafting into the apartment. jinu sat in front of the tv, mindlessly looking for a movie to watch.

at your legs was your newest addition to the family, fynn. he was the cutest shorthair and got along well with derpy.

“and that’s a big cat…” their expression changed quickly. one of horror. 

derpy was now at your side, with that dumb bird on his head. 

“uhm..what breed is he?” the delivery person asked tentatively. derpy was a goofy little guy and while he had a haunting look, he was truly the sweetest.

“he’s a mix of things, too long to name any of them!” you dismissed, grabbing the pizza. “let me get the money,” you said , looking for jinu’s help with his cat.

you left derpy, fynn, and the delivery person alone at the door.

they just looked at each other. derpy eyeing the person at their door.

“sorry about that,” you exclaimed, passing the money to the person, “come on, derpy…it’s dinner time!”

the door closed and you basically pull derpy back to the couch.

“maybe if we get him a collar he’ll look more friendly.” you told jinu.

“i think he’s perfect the way he is!” jinu gave derpy a kiss on the head and patted for him to sit next to him.

you got comfy next to jinu, laying on his chest with fynn on your stomach and derpy nuzzled to jinu’s side.

weird looking family aside, no place you’d rather be with this loser and his cat.
