Rune Meditation - Nauthiz

Odin met me in the same field I was in for my uruz meditation. (This field makes appearances in future meditations, too.) The field was largely barren. The soil was dry and small tufts of brown grass littered the area. The skies were dark grey. There were a few sparse trees in the distance and no animals to be found. Odin spoke of a spark to help create what was needed for life to return. (It brought to mind the Magician card in my Universal Monsters deck with Dr. Frankenstein on it, who quite literally used sparks to return something once dead to life.) Odin talked about how the field was once full of life and could be again. But in order to revitalize it, we have to assess what it needed/what is lacking. If you don't know what the lack is, you can't properly address it. Any treatment is only a temporary solution if it doesn't get to the root of the issue.

He then showed me an image of someone sitting in a recliner, relaxed, looking out the window at kids playing in the street. I interpreted this in two ways: 1. A lack of war means peace. Peace after the sacrifices of and loss sustained during the war. Lives paid for the comfort of others. 2. A false sense of peace - ignorance at the cost of your soul. "Freeing" yourself through denial.

At this point, Odin asked me what I was lacking in this meditation, and reminded me that I already have what I need to deal with this lack. I just have to use it.

Many dermatologists and experts say US sunscreens are still not as effective as many available overseas when it comes to protecting against ultraviolet radiation linked to skin cancer and premature ageing – despite years of research. The concern comes as a brutal heatwave, with a suffocating “heat dome”, is arriving for more than 200 million people across vast swaths of the US this weekend, bringing extreme heat and humidity . Studies have shown that the global climate crisis is making heatwaves more severe, frequent and long lasting. As fierce sun beats down on parts of the US this weekend, people are urged to try to stay out of the direct sun, stay hydrated and apply lots of sunscreen if outdoors – but people will probably have to rely on sunscreens that are less effective at fending off the ultraviolet rays than sunscreen available in some other countries. While American sunscreens generally do a good job at blocking UVB rays, which cause sunburn, experts and studies have noted in recent years that they often provide weaker protection against ultraviolet radiation in the form of UVA rays, compared to products available in places like Europe and South Korea. A 2017 study found only around half of US sunscreens tested met the European standards for UVA protection. Experts attribute this gap largely to regulatory differences.

I must admit, I cannot help but feel a little betrayed. Don't get me wrong, I understand the why and the how, but as a gay dude who was quite smitten over Muse, the disappointment is immeasurable...

Have you ever gotten discouraged by stuff? I normally don't talk about this stuff. I do things for fun out of hobby. I love drawing. Love writing. But there are times when I just, boom, motivation dies. Like a depression rolled in. I think some of it comes from how I see myself. I lack confidence. I see the great/amazing things that other people produce. I'm not jealous of it. I'm super happy for those people. They've got real talent. But I get this inadequate feeling after. To me I lack talent. Like I'm not good enough. Sorry for the ramble. Just felt I had to get it off my chest.
