FE Engage redesign series: Lapis, Alcryst and Citrinne

Design notes:

For Lapis I wanted to show in her design that she's a village girl; and that even tho she tries to hide it, people can usually tell pretty quickly.

Also, Lapis' are blue, so I made her blue🤷🏻

Honestly, the Brodia brothers have some of the best designs in the game! I don't actually think Alcryst needed much changing, but I still wanted to give him my own spin!

Since he's an archer, I went a little lighter on the armor. I also tried making him look a bit more lanky with slumped shoulders; then the change to his promoted class, which is more bulky and stable, will be more drastic to show his character growth!

I wanted to bedazzle Citrinne a little more to emphasize her wealth and family business. But she's also fun and playful, so I made her design more asymmetrical as well!

Alcryst, Citrinne, and Lapis: Defining value

Alcryst, Citrinne, and Lapis are united in being the most self-conscious members of the cast. Each of them has their reason for doubting themselves, but the others are quick to give them the reassurances they need

Lapis feels out of place because she's just a country girl surrounded by high-class nobles. However, Alcryst and Citrinne admire how she's accomplished so much despite the gap in social class. Despite lacking many of privileges the nobility possesses, Lapis has earned her place fair and square and stands as their equal

Citrinne gained her position through nepotism and despises herself for it. If Alcryst dies, she'll even blame herself personally. Citrinne is afraid that she has nothing to offer but her title, but Alcryst and Lapis view her differently. Her duties weren't forced on her. She chose them. While she could've easily spent her life lazily with her wealth, she chose to fight for the people who mean something to her

Alcryst is convinced that he will only be second best compared to Diamant. He's leftover scraps. What Lapis and Citrinne see is the most compassionate person in Brodia. He is kind, attentive, protective, and values everyone equally. When he is needed, his bravery always comes through for them. They know they can rely on that strength

The moment one of them feels any kind of doubt, the others will always lift them up and remind them of their value

I think it’s really funny how Alcryst, Lapis, and Citrinne are basically superhumans with low self esteem. Like Alcryst lost to Diamant in a contest by 1 point and is 8 years younger than him, Lapis has literal superhuman strength, and Citrinne has the highest magic stat in the entire game. Meanwhile, Lapis is anxious about her social status, Citrinne is worried about her weakness (honestly she should work on speed instead), and Alcryst just flat out thinks he’s incapable at everything. Also, they’re all teenagers. Hilarious trio.

So little tie-in into an old post I made of FE Engage characters and the specific 3H Lord they were able to bounce off of with the Emblem Bracelet. I thought this be a better visual to go along with the list component.

I will also add my own opinion here, but I do find it funny how the division of Engage characters almost exactly captures my feelings on each of the classrooms from Three Houses. Team Edelgard is definitely split down the middle with some really big stand out characters, but also a few I felt somewhat eh on. Team Dimitri probably has my overall favorite cast. And Team Claude's definitely feels to most light-hearted and some what gimmicky.

Maybe one day in the future with FEH or something we get all these Engage characters at Garreg Mach? Or we could have Three Houses characters each distributed to one of the four engage kingdoms? Fan artist and fan fic writers, ball is in your court.

LAPIS SHOULD HAVE BEEN BLUE! LAPIS LAZULI! WHY ISN'T SHE BLUE?!

She's called Lapis, not Lazuli.

She is quite literally just a regular run-of-mill girl trying to seem less like a common villager and her name reflects that. She tricked you by making you think she was inspired by a precious rock but she's just an ordinary stone - just like how retainers of royalty are expected to come from well-off backgrounds but Lapis was a regular village girl.

Being blue would have taken away from that aspect of her character. The reds and pinks were a great choice to make her stand out to the players while also making her feel at home in Brodia because red is the main colour of Brodia. All 9 named brodia characters have red in their design, 8 if yunaka's hair isn't red enough in your opinion. The brodian symbol is red. Hell, even the plants themselves are red.

See how well she fits in? Lapis is designed to not stand out against the Brodian characters and by extention the entire country. Making her blue will make her stand out.

In conclusion, you got tricked and quite possibly bamboozled. Lapis 1, Anons 0.
