I've been reading "The Hypnotist" by Lars Kepler, since I usually like thrillers and I liked the summary, plus the book was really hyped up.
Y'all... so far it sucks so much. Two page chapters with no real structure. Unlikeable main characters. Horrible police and medical work. The summary that called to me was straight up not the plot. And I paid for it, of all things 🙈

I always loved the little details of joona linna the way his eyes perk up when he identified with something the way his eyes melt when he sees the people he wanted to protect the way he wants to protect the strangers he vowed to protect as a detective when he couldn't save his family from a very cruel fate which was not in his hands even, the way he gets so frustrated when he doesn't pick on the clues that keep him going omg can u see that I love him

tagged by @magenta-somethings on a 10 people i'd like to get to know better tag game :> this was fun to do!
last song: 100 kaunaa by lyyti (i've been absolutely obsessed with her music lately, every single song is so beautiful)
fave color: green (almost typed orange at first by accident. i considered it my favorite color for a long time but lately green has definitely overthrown it)
last book: lazarus by lars kepler (i'm trying to read all 9 keplers before christmas so i can ask for the newest 10th book as a christmas gift)
last movie: west side story (the 2021 version; i watched it with my stepdad and musical-loving sister)
last tv show: arcane (i'm watching season 2 with my other sister)
sweet/savory/spicy: sweet all the way (i'm a candy lover through and through and also have the spiciness tolerance of a sickly medieval peasant who's survived on turnips their entire life)
relationship status: single (for 25 years and pretty much happy with it)
last thing i searched: vaporeon (someone mentioned it in a tiktok and i wanted to check what it looks like because it was relevant to the joke. yes i needed to google what vaporeon looks like, no i'm not a pokémon person, what gave it away?)
current obsession: project diva (currently the only game i'm actually playing on my switch)
looking forward to: tattoo session 2 of 3 this sunday!!
bonus topics
favorite drink: i don't really drink coffee but caramel lattes have really grown on me lately
song playing on a loop in your head: salamander by deco*27
current favorite character: jinx from arcane (almost said ciel phantomhive because i've been thinking about black butler a lot again but right now the arcane brainrot is just taking over. also am i really basic for saying jinx? i don't care)
fun activity you would like to get into: i absolutely loathed crocheting at school but some crazy part of me wants to learn it for some reason
last video game: project diva (been also playing a lot of subnautica and neon white lately)
last comic/graphic novel: a couple days ago at a bookstore i flipped through a graphic novel about a middle-aged woman in a straight relationship coming out as a lesbian. the last one i fully read was at a library, about fatphobia and living and existing as a fat person. both were autobiographical i'm pretty sure? unfortunately can't remember the names of either one (and they were both by finnish authors so idk how much it would help anyway. if a finnish moot happens to recognize either one i'd be happy to hear)

(WIP ask game) ☔️🌈
☔️: Is there a fic concept you have that you'd like to just explain and share because you're not sure you'll ever write it? If so, what is it?
Oooh, this is a fun one! And yes, there's this idea I'm rather fond of but probably won't write (for Wolf 359 of course, lol): Clonepler, take 2. (Ooops, it got long!)
Maybe a year or so after the surviving crew returns home, Clone!Kepler shows up on Earth too. And because this is my (potential) fic, he is s desperate to make things right with Jacobi. Except he can't find him. He tracks down the Heph crew fairly easily, hoping to find Jacobi with them, but he's not. After stalking them considering his options for a while, he decides to approach them to ask for help. Lovelace and Minkowski aren't too keen on seeing him again, and lots of things are probably said between them, but in the end Lovelace gives him Jacobi's last known number and address.
Kepler goes there, distressingly anxious over finally coming face to face with Jacobi again, fully prepared to grovel for forgiveness… but he's too late. Perhaps Jacobi's moved away, and he has to try to follow his trail across a few citites, or maybe I'd jump straight to the meat, but anyway, he finally finds out what's happened. And well, it's not very complicated: Jacobi's dead. Very recently, like a matter of weeks or so, definitely after Clonepler's return to Earth. Exactly how it happened is up in the air, but it's definitely to do with him not managing to bounce back from his experiences in space.
And there's Kepler, brand new and alive, but the person he thought he'd return to is gone. What the hell is he to do then?
He falls back on what he knows. Corporate black ops, either with a Goddard scrambling to rebuild or some rival company with equally unethical crap going on. It keeps him busy, so what if his belief in the Big Picture took a serious dent on the Hephaestus, there are new goals to pursue here, and he's good at it.
But of course, things don't always go right despite this. Something goes wrong, and Kepler is killed. Or he would have been, if he'd still been all human. His cloned body repairs itself, and he wakes up good as new. That is certainly a… development. In his line of work, think of what you can achieve with a functionally indestructible operative! It's an asset to be used, of course, just like the rest of him, he and his superiors agree.
So he leaps - or is sent - straight into a cycle of doing insanely dangerous missions, because suddenly he doesn't need to take his own safety into account. Avoid capture, yeah, but his physical wellbeing is no longer a particularly relevant factor. But dying takes its toll, and Kep isn't having a good time. Still, the whole "artist formerly known" deal is amplified by 100x, and he feels like there are no better options for him, so he's dragged deeper and deeper into the horror of the situation. It's different from Goddard insofar as this time, it's him who's used and experimented on, even if he agrees to it - what other purpose does he have, what other use?
Since it's too good a chance to pass up, he'd probably run into Lovelace on and off too, as a counterpoint. Maybe she's working to take down any any Goddard-like company, idk. Anyway she's dealing with her situation veerrrrryyyy differently.
However, I have no idea how I'd end this thing. Probably with something particularly awful happening (maybe something reminding him of all the Heph stuff?) and Kepler deciding to fuck it all and quit. How? Yeah, that's probably a problem too.
Buuuut all in all this is probably a little too big and plotty to be something I'm up for in the near future, unless I figure out a way to write it as a short-ish oneshot. Who knows, though?
🌈: Share something soft/fluffy from your WIP
Lmaoo I do not have a lot of soft and/or fluffy right now, but I think this fits the bill:
“I dreamt about taking you and Maxwell somewhere like this”, Kepler said one day, sprawled in the shade of a large tree after hours in the sun. “Just a… team vacation, far away from Goddard.” “You never mentioned it to us.” Jacobi didn’t stop his idle project to scoop sand all over Kepler’s stomach, but hummed encouragingly to prompt him to elaborate. “No. It seemed better not to. It… wouldn’t have been a good idea.” “We didn’t spend that much time together outside work, did we?” “No. We didn’t.” “Huh.” Jacobi brushed away some of the sand, then lay down, fitting his body to Warren’s. “That’s – I dunno, weird, I guess. I mean, it certainly felt like I saw you all the damn time.” “Weeeell, we did spend most of our time at work.” “Yep. Could have been fun, though. Trying to get Maxwell to swim. And we could’ve built some mean sandcastles.” “We could still do that, if you want?” “Huh.” Jacobi sat up again. “Sure, why the hell not. Let’s try to find a spade.” Then, a few hours later: “… should we blow it up? I want to blow it up.”
Thank you for the ask @cadmusfly! :D

Hi Kleo! Have you answered all the questions for the mini game? And how are you this Sunday? What's something good that happened to you lately? Stay positive 💫
Hello darling!
Yes, I have finished all the asks I had in my inbox. You might need to scroll a lot because this time it was... over 40 asks maybe? It was a lot. So yeah, scrolling the timeline on my blog is the only way as I don't have masterlists for these mini games.
Sunday is going pretty well! It was raining since yesterday evening and throughout the night, meaning the weather is really cool and refreshing, no more heat! Yay! It's an unpopular opinion but I really love rainy and cool summers. 🥰😍😂
Yesterday evening I started reading a book from beginning again. I did start reading it like... 2 years ago but then things happened and I dropped it, didn't come back to reading it for some weird reason. So now I'm starting over and man! I don't recall any of it! 🤣 Like it's crazy, I thought I will recognize at least some lines and be like "Ah, yeah, I remeber reading this..." but no! Nothing! So that's great because it really is exciting and thrilling. It's a Scandinavian thriller, Kaninjägaren by Lars Kepler, it's a Swedish book, I'm reading the Czech language edition so I'm not sure what's the title in English... Maybe a Rabbit Hunter? It's a part of a series of books and I have read all the previous ones and I absolutely love Lars Kepler (actually a pen name for two authors writing together). So yeah, that's making me happy now.
I also love the mini cheesecakes I made and posted about. So yummy.
OH! AND THIS MORNING ON A DOG WALK WE MET A FOX!!!!! 🦊
They live around here, I saw them multiple times but usually like really briefly and from a far but this time we just had the chance to watch the fox for quite some time as it stayed still and then we saw it running across the road (no cars around, I was specifically checking). Easy and Dachi obviously went feral and if I wasn't holding them on leashes, they would go to hunt the fox but that didn't happen, the fox made it happily through a fence into somebody's garden and probably carried on. I know one of the houses nearby has like geese or hens in the garden so I'm suspecting the fox was on a hunting mission of its own 😂 Lovely to meet the fox, though. I think they really like it here because there are like blocks of flats but with plenty of green spaces and small forests and orchards around. There is a problem with mice and rats overpopulation so I guess the foxes feel attracted by the abundance of potential prey. There are also hares hopping around a lot but I saw those and I think that the fox isn't a threat for them, those hares are pretty big. 😂
Also my friend did two tarot readings for me yesterday, answering the questions from my previous games (How would Kleo tame her brat? and What’s bewitching about Kleo?) and it was so lovely and spot on! I was so pleased! 💖💖💖💖 She even did as pdf and used my favourite colours (pink and black) 😍
I mean, there are usually many good things happening to me daily and I'm grateful for being happy most of the time. They are usually like small things but really good. 🤩
What about you? What is something good that happened to you lately?

PLEASE. Also i specialise in manga so i had to check my shelves andkenfkdn
My best recs for detective ficrion are the authors Elizabeth George, Lars Kepler (my beloved!) and naturally anyone from the golden age (Agatha Christie, and so on) and Philip Pullman's "Sally Lockhart" series is brill.
Good one i read recently was "The Cleaner" by Paul Cleave. Haven't finished it but it's good so far.
Not detective fiction, but recently i've been reading books by Ira Levin. If you like conspiracy stories, he's a specialist. "Rosemary's Baby" and "The Stepford Wives" are incredible, and if you're into dystopias à la "The Giver" (Lois Lowry) then "This Perfect Day" will delight you.
Most heart-wretching and most human story i have ever read is a novella called "Roadside Picnic" by the legendary Strugatski brothers. It's been 7 years and i have yet to read anything that destroyed me as much as that did. It's even worse when you read up on how difficult it was to publish.
Omgggg Thank you so so much! You have no idea how needed this was. Im ashamed to say I havent read almost any books in the last few years (that are not academia related) so sadly almost any name thats not from the golden era are new to me, as I mostly used my free time to play videogames and read manga. All of the ones you mentioned speak to me so Ill try to be checking them as soon as I have the time and mindset. I did have the delight of reading Rosemary’s Baby tho! You are right, it was great! Ive heard a LOT about “Roadside Picnic” and it has been on my “to read” list for a long ass time, so I think that Ill actually start with it as soon as Im done with the one mentioned on the previous ask. Btw youre always welcome to recommend more, in fact Ill tag it as “ref” so I can easily have a better organized list of stuff Ill want to read! Also you mentioned you also specialize in manga 👀 may I also hear about that??

KUROOOO!!! omg dear this arc is so intense and dramatic i’m living for it!!
Not poor alice!! omg i gasped and did not expect that at all! TREY how could he! omg i kind of suspected it after the last chapter but the twist! and he’s working with lucifer too! but he can’t communicate with him? is lucifer like a spectator? does he just not care enough about mortals to witness this? kind of sounds like it and from what we know in the show about how he feels about sinners i wouldn’t put it past him. this is all so much and i and waiting in anticipation for the next chapter!
and i thought i just had to be worried about the readers baby!! that was a twist and a half but we still don’t know what’s happening with them!! my heart can’t take it but also it must cause i just love where this is going and how dark it’s gotten!
John is still delusional which i find a little funny but also now it’s his brother(or is it cousin? i forgot sorry dear) that is implicit in the crime along with his ‘love’ - what will john do?? but also alastor’s quick thinking when john said his dad was dead and being like ‘oh i didn’t know is he?’ was very clever - john may be quick but he is not alastor!!
very well done on these last chapters and in season two! we have definitely moved from the childlike wonder and into more serious territory and i’m in love with the progression!
take care and until next time!
❤️🦌
If this isn't my dearest 🦌.
I can see you are doing alright. I'm happy you enjoyed chapter XXX. I waited so long to finally post it.
You shall have more information about Trey's contract with Lucifer, you'll just have to be patient, dear.
Well, I used to read Lars Kepler or Camilla Läckberg's works, so I am very fond of a dark theme.
John is intelligent, and our Alastor is clever and intelligent. That's why he won every battle against John. He can't say the same with Trey, can't he...
Yes, Season I was about settling every character, every relation and plot. Now, I can finally let my madness come free. I hope you will enjoy it but.. be prepared.
See you soon, dear. I can't wait to hear your thoughts when the next chapter is out.

Very important, it's the same in Sweden. Instead of getting more diversity among the books, we get more crime novels who may be written by different authors but are basically the same story over and over again. Because these books are the ones who most people check out. There's a queue of people waiting on the latest Lars Kepler, while the list of books with trans characters haven't had a new addition in ages.
Borrow more books! It will not only help you, but all the people who can't afford to buy books. Borrow books even if you own a copy. You don't even have to reread it. Just check diverse books out and then return them a week later. It keeps your local library alive.
Friendly reminder that if you talk about how representation is important and how there's not enough diverse media, I implore you to seek out the media that already exists. And if you live in an area with a public library, go to see if they're available at your public library. And then go check them out.
As a librarian, it is demoralizing to see how low the circulation statistics are on lgbt+ books and books by BIPOC authors. I include them in displays and readers advisory, but people still don't check them out as much. Libraries only have a finite amount of resources, including space. We don't get a book then keep it forever. If not enough people check it out, we have to get rid of it to make room for more books. And when James Patterson Book #69 gets checked out 30 times in one year and cool, subversive Sci fi novel with a Black trans woman main character has never been checked out once, the librarian (me) has to make a hard decision.
If you're looking for something tangible and easy to do this pride month, look for lgbt+ books (there are millions of lists online that you can find. It's easier than it's ever been to find diverse books) and check them out from your library.
No time to read? Look for a short story or poetry anthology and just read as much as you have time for. Or just check out a book cus it looks interesting and read as much as you can. We have movies too.
As cool as it would be for me to just keep the books I want and get rid of the ones I don't, I have to listen to the community on matters of collection development. And the community tells me what books they want by checking them out and leaving the ones they don't want on the shelf.
If you think this doesn't apply to you because you live in a progressive area and obviously the books are being checked out, you're wrong. I once worked in a community with a large lgbt population. Those books were not getting checked out. If you want to tell me you live in a conservative area and your library doesn't have any diverse books, you are legally obligated to check the catalog before replying to this post. I currently work in a conservative community and we have lgbt+ and bipoc books. And if you still cannot find any, you are legally obligated to see if your library has a collection request form that patrons can fill out before replying to this post.
