Hello!! I'm in love with your artstyle (especially the way you did the signature spells??? I've been looking at them for a while adsgfdfsf, they look like movie posters tbh and that's fricking cool to me. anyway!! I'm a player on the NA server (btw, I've already seen spoilers of chap 7 due to tumblr/reddit/pinterest, so yeah it's not the most spoiled I've ever been so yea) and yeah. I'm getting through the story okay but do you have any advice for people trying to get through certain events with a more limited life schedule??? Also, what are some of the differences that you notice between the english (if you see a lot of it??) and Japanese versions of the game? sorry if this was a longer ask, i tried to be simple but i wanted to tell you that I loved your art and everything just spiraled AAAAAAH

(gonna answer out of order because the event stuff turned into a huge block of text, sorry!)

I've seen a few of the localizations, but I don't know a lot about the Eng version, so I can't speak too much about differences. (I do think "housewarden" has a better sound to it than "dorm leader" though...they need a fancy little word to match their fancy little outfits.) I did look up the unique magic/signature spells to see if they were able to somehow work in the glossing -- I'm not even sure how you would localize that without it being super weird, so I don't blame them, but I was a little sad anyway! :( in Japanese, they're all written as Japanese phrases with the English as ruby text, and sometimes they're given a little extra meaning. like -- this is where the episode 7 spoilers I'm tagging are) the words that Mal says are "Fae of Maleficence":

but the meaning of the Japanese is "Blessing", which is a nice little "ooooh" moment given the context of it!

there isn't always an extra meaning, sometimes it's just. super literal. but my other favorite is Jack's, where what he means is "✨howl that pierces the moonlit night✨", but what he actually yells is "UNLEASH BEAST" before turning into a giant dog. what a good boy.

as for event advice (under the cut, because this was already getting long)...

speaking as someone who is 100% F2P and therefore also tends to get kind of burnt by some of these events -- the #1 most important thing is to just...make peace with not getting everyone. :') I am a collector-type person, so it definitely gets grating when I can't have all the fancy PNGs my little packrat heart desires. generally though: never do random pulls, always be saving your keys and gems between events. (once a month you can buy a 10-set from Sam for a 50 gem discount, and logging in on a character's birthday will give you a 10-set for free, so make sure to do those!). when the event info starts coming out, pick one or two cards that you really want and work specifically towards those, focusing on grinding out the items and/or using your saved-up pulls on their specific banner. and in the end, accept that it might just not be meant to be, even if you hit the 100-pull pity SSR no I'm not still bitter over fairy gala Ortho why do you ask. if the event doesn't have any cards that you really want, take it as an opportunity to save for the next one!

hoard your star fragments (the things that restore AP) -- if you're going for a card that requires grinding event items to permanently unlock, and the item is one you get from lessons, you can use star fragments to bump your AP up to 30 at a time (10 is the limit that will restore over time, but 30 is the max you can have at once). that makes for a looong lesson loop, but I usually get about 50-60 items per 30 lessons, and I just let it run in the background while doing other stuff. (usually these items are what also unlock the event story, so I'll do a huge amount of lessons first thing and then have enough to get the whole story at once. 👍) it can get really grindy, but events go on for a while so it's not usually that bad if you space it out a bit, instead of waiting until the last minute to try and get those last 600 items (cough) (cough).

if it's one of the ones where you get the item from doing a rhythmic, you get the same amount of items no matter how well you do, even if you miss every note. so you can just...tap occasionally to restart it and get the same effect. if it's a battle one, you do have to actually win to get the item, but once you figure out the sweet spot of a team setup + highest battle level where you win every time, it becomes basically the same deal.

so...yeah, tl;dr you can get away with a lot just by setting things up to run in the background and paying just enough attention to tap through some of the menus. it does require a certain amount of time to just leave your phone while still sorta-kinda paying attention to it, so it might not work for everyone, but that's the best way I've found to get through most events!

are there any ssr cards that you wish you had?

so far i've only gotten the event ones and not any of the dorm ones (other than my cater one from the beginning) and i'm grateful ig but i really want dorm vil. he just looks so pretty omg

Keep in mind, I'm only on the English server and I started as soon as the version released. However, I am aware of most events and cards in the Japanese server.

Right now, I just want to get at least one SSR of everyone. So far, my SSR collection is fairly large. I'm quite proud of it, but it is missing a few. I have regular Riddle, regular Ace, Ghost Marriage Ace, Stargazer Deuce, regular Trey, Fairy Gala Leona, regular Jack, regular Ruggie, Camping Ruggie, regular Azul, Halloween Jade, Beans Day Floyd, regular Kalim, regular Jamil, Halloween Vil, Halloween Rook, Ghost Marriage Idia, Birthday Ortho, and Halloween Silver.

Which means that the only event cards I'm missing are Beans Day Azul, Halloween Cater, Halloween Riddle, and Firelit Sky Jamil. I wanted Beans Day Azul but now I don't care because I got his regular without even meaning to. Still mad about Halloween Cater though. Halloween Riddle I didn't want because I already have regular Riddle. And I did want Firelit Sky Jamil just because his outfit was so pretty but I didn't get him. I don't wish for regular SSR cards, because I know there's always that small chance you'll get them while wishing during events. It's happened to me with all the regulars I have, except Ace.

For now, I'm saving up for cards I really want. Maybe like another good Idia card. But I also really want SSR cards for characters I don't have SSR with already. So those would be Cater, Epel, Malleus, Sebek, and Lilia. For now, I'm thinking about Harveston Epel, Masquerade Malleus, and Rock Club Lilia. I like their looks in those. For Cater and Sebek right now, I have no idea. Not on the list is Jack. Yeah, I have him already, but I want his little sailor card. Because have you seen the arms on him in the groovy version of that card? GODDAMN.

Just got the Heartslabyul manga. I'm pogged~ Gonna ramble about it. (spoilers under the cut)

The manga is doing a stellar job of endearing me to this version of Grim. Like I love this gremlin cat already whereas in the game I was eh about Grim until chapter 4 (and arguably still on the fence about him)

I think the manga trims the fat of the prologue nicely. It’s so refreshing to not have to go through the chandelier and the ghost fight this time around.

Though at the same time they skipped great bits like Deuce throwing Ace and Grim working with MC at Ramshackle.

Ruining the Great Seven statues is treated with greater severity here; worthy of expulsion rather than the window washing in game. On one hand I'm thinking that's overkill when they have magic to clean it anyway whereas you can't easily replace a valuable magestone. But then again everyone stopped to mourn the statues when they were knocked over on Halloween so maybe it's not too out there of a punishment(?) This is an abridged version of the prologue so I guess my expectations are more generous. Catch me on another day and I'll probably think something different.

It’s super cute how Ace and Deuce are already acquainted and on their BS in this retelling. "stop following me >:(" "I'm going to class, idiot >:(" It's great.

They kept the Juice joke, I'm happy.

Riddle plays a bigger part, most certainly because this is about Heartslabyul, but damn he’s serving.

That shoujo as hell shot where Riddle gets tackled to the floor lmaoooo I wouldn't be surprised if people started shipping Riddle and Yuken.

The way Azul is drawn, he looks like a wine-drinking aunt. I mean, he always does, but the vibes are a lot stronger.

It’s neat to see how the mirror hall is supposed to look. I'd always thought it was just a big round room, but here its layout is similar to a church. Makes sense because of the coffin motif.

Idia wearing his robes even in his room is a nice touch (calling back to his ceremonial robes vignette)

Yuken is hella huge holy shit. I heard he was built but seeing it in person is something else lol

IDT they mentioned Malleus by name at all like the game prologue did (and Lilia didn’t appear either). So you see the panels of him earlier in the book and like oooh whos' that???

Overall the housewardens presence at the ceremony is less pronounced. Vil and Idia only said like one line each lol I kinda forgot they were there. I guess that's the trade-off for having Cater and Trey being introduced this early.

Crowley: "You're the protagonist." Yuken: "I got kendo, dawg. No I ain't".

Yuken is such a based protagonist I love him. Just happily rooms with ghosts and accept the janitor job like it’s nothing.

I like how they gave that one dude his own character card in the beginning as if it was going to mean anything. Nice subversion lol

I wonder how confusing it would be to find this manga on a bookshelf or online with no prior knowledge of TWST, looking it up and learning it’s a whole ass gacha game that’s currently on its 7th chapter (chapter 6 for the localized versions) and there’s a bunch of side stories and stuff. Because the book doesn’t say anything like “adapted from the game of the same title” or something.

Ok, they kinda do, but it’s in the blurb by the storyboard artist.

Deuce is great, I don't remember if he took this much initiative in the game (then again, it's been a year since I went through the prologue).

Ace is also less of a lil' shit in this version. He's pretty chill all things considered.

I haven't finished labeling my tissues but I want to drop whatever thoughts and brainrot I have for AceYuu and Adeuyuu right now. There will be spoilers!!

Ace kind of showed a homie move when Riddle talked crap to Yuu in Heartslabyul chapter because they were magicless and then Ace punched him and proceeded to spew shounen protag dialogue. I was like "okay, maybe Ace isn't that terrible." Because we all hated Ace on the prologue. Then him and Deuce slowly got to warm up to Yuu during Savannaclaw and Octavinelle where they volunteered to be on Ramshackle's team and offered Yuu a place to stay. Ace teasing Yuu that they would want to sleep together in a rather suggestive tone kinda made me 😳 that's coming from the guy who asked to sleep with you on the first day of school because he ate tarts.

It all became obvious that Adeuce cared a lot about Yuu when they came to help Yuu who was stuck in Scarabia. If they didn't think Yuu was their friend they wouldn't go through the lengths of using public transportation and they could have made up an excuse to not go because it was the holidays. We can see how far Sage's Island and Queendom of Rose in one of the maps shown in Ignihyde chapter.

And it IS far.

After all of the events of Scarabia, Yuu trusted them enough to tell them about Mickey 🥺 They're willing to stick with Yuu through thick and thin although they aren't as honest about it especially Ace.

Now with Ace's dynamic with Yuu is just 😩👌 they really have that best friends vibe and it does remind me of how me and my best talk. Basically what I'm saying is their friendship feels organic? Natural?

The game is pushing MalleYuu and I did ship them as well in the beginning, however Ace's relationship and dynamic with Yuu won me over. AceYuu spent more time together than MalleYuu and it's quite one-sided on Malleus' part.

If Ace got the island question on his union birthday interview, I think he would choose Yuu. Also the grin from Yuu Ace got on his omakeshi birthday interview. Have you noticed that only Ace and Lilia are the only ones looking at the camera in the omakeshi birthday cards without other cameos?

Ace is honest about his feelings towards others but not his own. His feelings can be seen more in his actions than words. On Halloween part 2 he was worried as heck for his missing friends especially Yuu. He was so ready to throw hands at "possessed" Malleus just to save Yuu. Get me a homie who's ready to smack the prince of the valley of thorns and one of the strongest magic users of the world for taking his friends away.

In his Halloween card Ace got mad that Yuu, Grim and Deuce were just fine with what happened. Then he got hot seated by Lilia and Malleus. Being the prince of the valley of thorns didn't stop Ace from being blunt. Mind you that Ace was the only one that got mad from the whole ordeal.

Wasn't it also Ace who initiated to talk about Halloween in front of Ramshackle so that the ghosts would hear it?

Halloween part 2 lives on my mind rent free. It fed me so much AceYuu.

And then his ghost marriage speech. Read his ghost marriage speech. What he said is the shiet he's doing with Yuu right now or maybe I'm delusional.

I think I can say Yuu is in limbo between a self-insert and having enough personality to be their own character. We can see that they are a bit of a gremlin too and love to tease. The teasing becomes apparent in Ace's voice lines. AceYuu dynamic shines a lot on Ace's voice lines. His ghost marriage card is worth to check out for it.

Followed Little-Bean and Mewshi Q's playthrough.

Malleus visits her one cold night. She has trouble sleeping and sees the green lights behind the window curtains. She peeks out to see him standing there and immediately pulls a hoodie and slippers on to meet him. They talk about their holiday break, leaving some parts out. He brings up the card and she thanks him for it. He asks if she has anything for him in return. "I'm sorry, I don't. I haven't been able to go to the store and get something considering I don't know what you like."

He thinks for a second. "Surprise me. The gift is up to you."

"Okay. I'll try to get you something good." He chuckles and wishes her a good night.

Third week of January, Thursday.

Shit.

Throws on Grim's coat and boots for him.

Glances at the Evil Queen as she walks by. Who is going to represent you?

"Interesting."

"Damn it, Crowley! Stop doing that."

"You want to waste money on only tuna."

Crowley abandoned her and gave her a crappy phone, so using it whatever she wants.

Alice thinks he's beautiful and curious about him since she last time spoke to him was on Halloween.

Furrows brows slightly.

Poison apple?

"Guys, don't get into a fight."

(I hate that face. Vil, never make that face again.)

Deeply sighs at them.

Leans on the wall and watches them fumble around with their two left feet.

After the audition, she asks Ace and Deuce which dorm has the color green and if anyone in Diasomnia has the initials M.D. They question why and she says she's curious about something, then asks if he has horns, black hair and green eyes. The two are suspicious and worried for her.

Malleus Draconia... You're Firefly.

She saw her life flash before her eyes. "Is that an arrow?! What the hell?!"

"Wait, what? What do they want with me?"

"They asked me to come."

She's dodging students left and right.

"Dramatic much?"

"The hell is going on?"

"Ugh, why the sparkles?"

Alice is going to accidentally punch someone one day.

Furrows brows. "And didn't you ask me beforehand because you don't care about my opinion."

"Hm? Really?"

"Is tuna the only thing you think about?"

I wish for misfortune to fall upon you, Crowley. "... I know I can't say no." Stares daggers at the headmage.

Crowley orders an oven and fixes the kitchen's water pipes and electricity. Also, she's not getting her allowance until after the championship.

Rooks greets her by first name.

"Welcome." Steps to the side and holds the door open.

"My. It's a lot cleaner than it was on Halloween." -Vil

However, he does complain about the missing/messy placed wallpaper which she tells him she doesn't care if the place looks trashy, it's liveable and that's what matters.

"That's up to you. You can choose whatever room that has a sign on the doorknob." Only cleaned some rooms and bathrooms, and left a small sign on it.

Eyes light up.

Blocks Vil's hand, maybe pushes it away.

Stands there with the box of sweets. "Hm." And takes it to the fridge to have later.

"Manager?"

Gives an unimpressed look. "Where's the music player?"

Agreement?

Furrows her brows slightly at Vil pulling on Epel's ear.

"You guys did a good job today."

Because their diet has no gluten for a month, Alice's body slowly starts looking better. (Gluten intolerance person here.)

"I'm not complaining because I'm having an actual meal for dinner instead of a peanut butter & jelly sandwich or a protein shake."

Happily drinks some apple juice. (Places a box in her room.)

"I'm the one who's old."

Pokes his cheeks. Baby.

(Did Vil hand the skin care products to Yuu as well? Either way, Alice is staying up a bit longer and using the products she already has.)

Grim comes into her room to talk. (What exactly did you do, Grim? You weren't dancing or singing like everyone else, so what did you do to make you tired?)

Raises a brow and gets up to investigate the outside to see Kalim.

"You should sleep right now."

"Grim, go inside... If you're going to be a jerk, then go to bed."

"Grim, go inside. I'll talk with Kalim." Grim frowns and heads into the warmth of the dorm.

"Kalim, I can understand or see how that may feel." And the two talk while Jamil secretly listens.

I'm worried.

"Grim, what do you want?"

"What are you two doing up?"

Shrugs and sits down at the counter.

Narrows her eyes and smiles in the gesture of what the heck.

"Hey, save some for me." Ace passes the box to her and she asks for a fork when the lights come on.

She's not scared of him. This is her house (and she's the adult.)

She jumps up in a panic. "Are you guys okay?!"

A curse?!

Fairest One of All?

Glares at Vil in the gesture of what.

"It's the first day and they were only going to eat sweets this one time until the competition is over."

"Excuse you. "Let me off?" This is my damn house and you even told me and Grim we could eat anything we want."

"It would be wise to return your room, unless you want to root yourself into the floor with the spuds." -Vil

"This my dorm, therefore, my rules. You are my guests and have no say in what I do, especially with what I do or eat in my own dorm."

"Hmph. If you want that money for this place, then you shouldn't talk back to me."

"Do I look like I care? Crowley is probably planning on pocketing it anyway."

Vil glares and walks off. She looks to her friends and goes searching from a blanket to lay on top of them so they don't get cold. "Sorry I can't do anymore than this."

She closes the door, feeling bad for her boys when the mirror glows.

"I'm here... Yeah, I can see you..."

Donald and Goofy. "I haven't told anyone about this."

"I don't believe I'm dreaming considering what just happened." Then watches Mickey fade away.

She wrinkles her brows in thought, turning to her nightstand and taking out her journal to write down about the meeting, then flips the page to the list.

Fairest One of All... Vil - Evil Queen?

(Damn, what he's saying is fitting my headcanon.)

"I'm curious about your home."

(He's laughing because that's all he can do, he knows how messed up it is, but can only laugh to ease the tension.)

"My situation is very different than yours, Kalim."

"That sounded good!"

Vil and Alice have been butting heads with each other. Vil complained about her unladylike attitude and how bad her skin is. She hid snacks in her room and stayed up at night.

One day, she told him she will act ladylike when she has to stay at his dorm.

However, despite the pettiness between them, Alice took some time to think about the big issue. Is Vil the Evil Queen? She stared at the list and tried to piece it together. If he is representing the Evil Queen, how can she stop it? She thought about talking about it to Crowley to let him be aware of the possibility.

So, during school she entered his office and told him about her theory that Vil may be the next overblot victim. Crowley listened to her words and answered that he'll keep an eye out, especially on Vil, and requested she focus on taking care of the students in her dorm, to not worry about the issue.

"The "usual?"

"Vil. You disgust me." She runs after Epel.

"Epel! Hey, vent to me... Tell me what's on your mind."

Deuce comes by and Epel looks to her. "Go with him, I'll head back."

("Did you comb it with a leg of a chair?")

(Epel, you gremlin.)

(In all honesty, the three guys are creeps.)

"Work hard and he won't outshine you."

(Ghost Bride event)

One night during dinner, Epel asks questions about Alice to get know to her. Rook joins in on the questioning. She answers them as honest as she can when the question of how did she get into the school came from Vil.

She looks over at Ace and Deuce, silently asking if she should tell them. "Oh, that's because Kate's from a different world." -Kalim

"Eh?! Different world?!" -Epel

"Do you really think it's time for jokes?" -Vil

"But it's not a joke, it's true, she told me herself." -Kalim

"He's right. I'm from a different world entirely."

She explains her lack of memory on how she got here and how Crowley is supposedly finding a way to get her home. "There has been rumors on you being from a different world." -Rook

"Oh, right. I have heard about them in my class. I think I remember someone saying she's older than Leona." -Epel

"Older than Leona? Katelynn, are you in your 20s?" -Vil

"24."

"Something I have been curious about, does Crowley know about your age?" -Jamil

"Yes, I told him and the professors on, I believe, my second week here."

"I'm getting one as well?"

Is looking at the tickets and the card at her desk. She gets up to peek through her curtains to finally see the green lights slowly appearing. She slips her shoes on and grabs the tickets, then quietly walks outside.

"Good evening."

They sit down on the porch, talking about their day. She talks about the competition and the students who are participating are staying in her dorm as a training camp. She then brings out the tickets and handles it to him. "As thanks for the holiday card, and because I want you to come."

He's a taken back by the gesture and laughs, believing she is clueless to his identity. He asks if she will be a parting of the performance. "Um, no, I'm just the manager for the group."

Alice and Malleus have seen each other a few times before this night and he always called her "child of man" when he greets her or wishes her sweet dreams. Her name was in the card, so she's aware that he knows her name, but hearing him say it, it felt strange but also nice.

"Good night... Firefly."

She wakes up with dread in her heart.

"No problem."

"We can get something after checking the stage."

Picks up the cat and heads towards the stage.

"We are, we're just checking on the stage. So, how is it coming along?"

"You built the whole stage?"

"I would love that."

"Will do! See you there, Jack!"

"Interesting."

"Actually, my world does have magic."

"What? But the Dark Mirror sensed no magic in you. Wait, do you just come from a magicless family?" -Riddle

"Actually everyone in my world can use magic, however, the magic is very different from yours... I'll explain in more detail later. Please continue explaining more about your world to me."

"There's a lot of options for mages."

Looks around the exhibit and the photos of different rocks and mushrooms while Riddle speaks with the brothers. She listens to explanation of the club and answers Floyd, "Yeah, you can find rocks and plants anywhere, but that doesn't mean they're not beautiful. I appreciate the beauty of nature and want to see what I can see from it."

This is concerning...

Winces at the yelling and covers her ear slightly.

Wrinkles brows in thought.

Dwarfs?... Grumpy, Doc, Sneezy.

"It was no problem."

"Yeah, I call him Firefly because of his eyes."

"What's his actual name?" -Cater

"That's a secret." Mischievous expression.

"Riddle, come on."

"Look at the all of those cameras."

Holds up the pass, then Vil comes by.

"Don't give me that look, Vil. We were on the side of the school."

"Grim, don't make them more nervous."

"Fantastic!"

(Timmy hid behind Neige and Neige kneeled down to him! My heart!!)

What? How am I seeing this? Why am I- She freezes and her eyes go wide as her heart starts to speed up. The poison apple...

Epel asks if she's okay from her anxious expression as she glances over to see Vil walking down the stairs and immediately runs pass them. Grim is surprised by her bolting and chases after her in confusion.

"Something isn't right."

(From top of my head for a plan: would shout "Wait!" and approach them, saying Vil is needed upstairs and that he stole my apple juice. I take the bottle from Neige's hand and lie, "I haven't be getting the vitamins I need and apple juice is helping me with that. Sorry for just taking the bottle." Then death grip Vil's wrist and drag his ass back upstairs.)

"I knew it."

(This man is taking simping to a whole new level.)

Panic.

(And Alice called this man disgusting. Oops.)

Concern eyes stare back at him, a gentle voice asking, "please calm down and talk to us."

No, no, no no no no. Eyes widen in fear.

Picks up Grim and throws him on the carpet, then climbs on herself.

"Coming in clutch, Jamil."

"Yeah! If he did nothing Rook would be dead. This was going to happen one way or another."

Deeply sighs.

She runs behind the large screen and stays there as the battle begins, however, a magic blast cuts through the screen and forces her to run somewhere else. Hiding spots are soon destroyed and leaving her out in the opening. Magic blasts off from Vil and the others, dodging and falling to the floor to not get hit.

But a roar of power slams her in the right arm and she grabs it in pain, feeling her skin burning under the fabric of her uniform. She falls on her back to dodge another and covers her head from rubble.

Deuce calls out and her curls up on the floor as he "Bet The Limit."

The smoke and dust clears as she lifts her head to Vil on the ground. Her vision slowly fades and sees his memories playing to her like a movie. She stands up when it disappears and limps over to him, kneeling down and picks him up to lean his body against her.

His head rests on her chest as she strokes his cheek and everyone surrounds them.

"Really..."

At stating he isn't a fitting leader, Vil nuzzles his face into her and lifts his hand to grip her arm.

Vil pulls away to stand up and she automatically helps him.

"Congratulations, Deuce."

"Let's not worry about that."

"Oh, hey, Firefly."

"Oh, hey! You're the man who threw that Halloween party with the ghosts. I heard about you sneaking in our garden at night from Kate. Myah hah hah--MRAH!" -Grim

"Kate! You're really calling THIS guy Firefly? Do you have a death wish?!" -Ace

She freezes at what she just saw. She runs back to Mickey and tells him her friend is gone and has a bad feeling, she has to go. He says goodbye to her and she waves before putting on her shoes and coat, then exits her dorm to go looking for him. She checks the campus until she makes it to the coliseum where a blue light is seen on the stage.

Grim! She quickly goes down the stairs and approaches just to stop at what he's saying and watches him start eating something. "Grim?"

He turns and rushes her, swinging his claws at her but she dodges just for him to swing back and scratch her thigh. She stumbles back and holds her leg, looking up to him as he turns and runs away.

She stares at the exit, then to her bleeding leg. "What just happened?" She carefully exits the coliseum and heads back to her dorm to call Crowley and inform him in what happened.

"Miss Winter? Why are you calling me so late?"

She starts to cry. "Grim just attacked me! Something's wrong!"

"What? Explain what happened."

She explains and he tells her he will handle, requesting her to lock all of the doors and windows and to rest for now, he will call her when Grim's captured. She puts down her phone and bandages her thigh, crying quietly to herself. She lies down on her bed to sleep, curling up on the mattress and trying to figure out why he attacked her.

Used to have over 30 gang members following him at age 14-15. (You'd think that him being so young would make him like a lackey but no he was the boss)

Has a thing for summoning cauldrons since he was young, but apparently you need to have a large amount of magic capabilities to summon objects, so [observation] deuce may actually be extremely powerful bc he was able to summon things at a young age, but he hasn't refined his powers yet so he still seems weak compared to a lot of the cast

During his delinquent phase, apparently he had a really wild hairstyle and he used his magic on people weaker than him

[Observation] Deuce is actually pretty good at lying. In his Halloween card he was able to put up a good act and deceive some of his ex gang members into following him into the forest before mildly roughing them up (keep in mind that he has not had contact with these ppl for at least a year, yet somehow he was able to assert enough authority to tell them to follow him. Also, he thought of this plan on the spot, and acted malicious enough so that the gang members would believe in him—which proves that he's not only quick witted but a convincing actor, as Jamil actually believed his act for a while)

It's implied that he and Ace are often in leadership positions, as they helped to lead heartslabyul in designing their Halloween booth, but they also mentioned that it was much easier compared to organizing unbirthday parties

[Observation] despite wanting to be an honor student, Deuce is still able to take unjustly means to achieve his goals (EX. Making a deal with Azul to pass his test), in general, deuce doesn't care too much about the method, be it through cheating or violence to get to his goal, but he does value a fair battle

[Observation] a lot of Deuce's strengths are subtle as we are frequently told abt how much of a bad student he is, but if u rly think abt it, deuce is put in leadership positions a lot, he's good a memorization and small technical details, he can be at times quick witted and deceiving, and he has the potential to be extremely powerful in magic. In conclusion Deuce is a menace and once we find out what his unique magic is I'm 100.01% sure he will become a greater menace and I think he should fight a lot of people and win

AAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAA THANK U SO MUCH FOR THE REPLY???? U RUNDOWNING SOME OF THE BASE STUFF MADE ME REITERATE SOME STUFF I KNEW OF THE BOYS SO THANKSSSSS (I actually didn't realize that Jack had a base and only thought of him as the wolf from most disney stories so thanks for the clear up homie) I want to contribute more so forgive the long infodump

I still haven't understood several stuff about the other boys so I'm just going to start with our fave dynamic instead!!!! ADeuce (I was going to put Ramshackle here too but then realized that this was going to be long asf so.... maybe next time??? AHAHAHA.)

So like---starting with Deuce his card meaning Union has a bunch of double meanings--for me at least---it could mean his UM where essentially he "unites" the magic his opponent attacked him with and makes it his own weapon to attack them (see his fight with vil where he chooses to accumulate the magic instead of directly attacking him w it) on the other hand it could also mean he would be the one uniting the entire school to rally against Grim (Chernabog) we can already see this being somewhat true during the vargas camp event where he disappears. Everyone was loosing their shit at the idea of Deuce being gone since that guy ditching them to relax? not true very sus and they were right. Deuce going missing in the event united most of the cast there into finding him which they did. His other motif being the Horned King could work pretty well with him uniting the NCR against OB! Grim too since kings are often general who command warriors into battle (him being in the warrior class could also be pointing to him being a general of sorts during the fight with OB! Grim as well---Also took further research and saw that the Spade card also symbolizes Military hmmm....).

As for the winter part. I think Deuce has got that to the T as well. HIs main color scheme is blue and blue is often linked with the cold and the cold is often linked with winter. His buddy is Jack a wolf beast--a white wolf actually and white wolves are often linked with snowy terrains as well, jack's hometown being sorta snowy works with this pretty well. Deuce got his UM somewhere the end of winter (but is still winter since January is part of the winter season). Him achieving knowledge could be a nudge to his character development in chapter 5--that being accepting his flaws (his less than smartness in certain situations) and acknowledging that so he could grow from it. I find it ironic though that Deuce is "old age" when he's one of the first years and is one of them early on to actually get an UM but I suppose it does sort of makes sense since out of the first years he seems to be the one with the most experience (him being a delinquent, him knowing how to fix machinery, etc., etc.) and him being therefore the more knowledgeable/wiser one (despite him being dumb often times) between the guys because of his experiences. Also the spade card---as mentioned before---represents both water and winter. A stark contrast to Grim's obvious fire motifs.

Moving to Ace. His name Trappola meaning Trap fits his personality very well. His often cheery demeanor lures in unsuspecting people and traps them until he gets what they want or when they catch on, aside from the things you listed he also went ahead and used epel as bait during the halloween event and almost tricked Trey into giving him the answers for his test (but of course couldn't because Trey is a sneaky son of a bitch). His name Ace on the other hand seems to directly translate to what his purpose in the story seems to be. His name Ace could directly translate to Ace up on one's sleeve which essentially means that you have something that could overpower someone--a trump card of sorts. Maybe Ace develops his UM during somewhere in chap 6/7/8??? (altho chap 6 seems impossible since they're (ADeuce) out of commission for now but who knows we'll just see...). I don't remember what kind of card game Ace so I'll just talk about what cards he is instead---While he is the heart card of the group Ace might also be the Ace of hearts and the joker card as well. I say this because often times the Ace of hearts is depicted as a cavalry (mirroring Deuce's king/warrior motif) as well as being the second most important card in the deck.

Him being the Joker mirrors the fact that he's the ace--he's someone important in the deck. He can either be beneficial or harmful to the team (maybe he'd be a double spy? which could give way to the Ace is the traitor theory since he's essentially betraying both parties when the time comes--essentially harming them but also being beneficial to both at the same time--since he's giving them information.) Then there's also the fact that he's the hearts card... The hearts card symbolize childhood and spring, the earliest stage of life and the season itself. This could be a direct callback to Ace's whimsical and immature nature but also mirrors the blunt nature of a child itself (him calling out Trey for his bullshit and not immediately forgiving Riddle after his OB) and he's also the youngest in his family (with the oldest being his older brother) and also he has tons of potential too both as a character and a student himself (the same way a child has lots of potential to grow as well). He's also the first person we meet among the cast officially---he's spring essentially and spring is often the telling of times that something new has come---something is going to change. The heart cards also symbolize fire, while you might think why fire? isn't that the same as grim's? here me out the heart symbol in general also symbolizes the church, the church is something holy--Grim is not since he's Chernabog and Chernabog is described as the Devil himself.

(Also just a side note but Deuce means two: This might be a callback to the fact that he's the second person we actually meet in the cast but it could also mirror his feelings of inferiority to Ace---The hearts, the joker of the deck. To how second he always feels next to Ace (which means one or something along those lines). His name spade directly translates to this which mirrors the death thing NCR has going on but could also mean "spada" or sword. Mirroring the vorpal sword in Alice in wonderland. Ace could possibly be the shield since he's the hearts.

Also extra extra side note: but considering that Yuu and Grim are considered one person they might be the body Ace would be the soul and Deuce would be the mind might elaborate on sometime)

Actually, I've returned to bear some good food and clear Epel's and Ortho's name—

Kinda got biblical on Epel but I needed to clear his name bc I kinda skipped over developing other meaning in favor of taking him at face value which he would def Stomp the brakes off me for—

Apples were first derived from the ancient Greek word mālon which just meant "tree fruit" in general, however with the introduction of mălum in Latin meaning "evil" this influenced how people perceived apples during biblical times, let's not even start on the fact that apple cores are dangerous to eat bc of cyanide.

The Adam's Apple is also a sign of manhood as it was the apple chunk that got stuck in Adam's throat.

The apple is significant as it symbolizes the fall of man (Snow White) but in the New Testament its a symbol of redemption (Chap 5) apples also play a part in the beauty aspect, in the love songs of Solomon apples are a tool for s*x and sensuality.

Hell, during the Jewish New Year celebration (Rosh Hashanah) it is customary to eat apples dipped in honey to evoke a "new year that is good [the apple] and sweet [the honey]".

Potatoes often mean "Earth apples" as well.

Epel's themes directly tie into his personal story and Chap 5—when Crewel assigned a task that was intentionally impossible he had taken it as a sign to fix the mistake he made in his class, and out malicious compliance (read: redemption) he figured out a way to outwit everybody.

In Chap 5, a lot of vitriol for Vil stems from the fact that he appears controlling and does things without Epel's input (Jade personal story) like when Vil decided that bc Epel was too stiff he needed ballet lessons, by putting undue stress upon Epel (Closing the fist) the boy ran away (crushing the apple)

Also also, when Christ is seen holding an apple its symbolized as him becoming the second Adam who brings life—you see this when Epel spends two month collecting trash and horse manure for a mega fertilizer to help his plants grow explosively.

Apples are also often given to teachers (Vil) and is commonly associated with studious behavior and intelligence, you can see this with Epel collecting two months worth of manure.

Golden apples are often associated with granting immortality—and Greek gods were constantly fighting or requesting it. The Trojan war started over Aphrodite, Hera, and Athena fighting over an apple.

Which plays into the subversion of Epel. He's the "poisonous" apple that Vil is teaching (dunking into honey) in order to entice Neige into failure, the same way the snake enticed Eve (which is funny asf bc Jamil and Kalim's side story play a huge part in Chap 5 and preventing both Rook and Neige from consuming the poison)

Onto our boy Ortho—

We know for a fact that he's not alive/a cyborg just off appearance alone. And we know that cyborgs are oftentimes portrayed as a bastardization/extension of nature into new forms, they indicate that or old mechanistic views are being paved into something new. It breaks the mold of what technology and nature can be if they are blended into each other.

Man and Machine—Hand in Hand.

We also know that in Japanese mythology blue fire oft means means the coldness of death and fire usually has connotations with life/vitality so when one mixes those two together its often seen as strange and unusual—kinda like Ortho's situation.

Ortho often implies that his brother "fixed" him, Idia laments about how technology hasn't advanced fast enough and that "He's already..." and thats it.

Ortho's eyes also play a huge part, being "amber" yellow—and in the common mind, amber is associated with the preservation of life as we see fossils and dead insects preserved in the tree resin. This could mean that Idia played a part in being the artificial fossilized tree resin (despite amber being organic in nature) to preserve his brother's image.

We see the themes of unnatural meeting natural when we read that Ortho wasn't actually accepted into NRC, he only tagged along due to his brother—going against the natural selection the same way Kalim did, although the Carriage came for Kalim.

Ortho dislikes lightning—one could argue that it disrupts his systems, but raise you this:

A bolt of lightning can often mean sudden illumination and destruction of ignorance (maybe he doesn't want anyone to know about how his body was formed) however his talent is investigation and constant clue gathering and puzzle solving to destroy ignorance.

However, a bolt of lightning also is seen as an omen—danger and destruction, you see this when you see sparks fly from your outlet/electric poles/fuse box, you instinctively know to get out of dodge.

I can definitely see the parallels between Yuu and Idia and Grim and Ortho.

Also his name is a Greek prefix that means: "straight", "correct", "upright", or "right" as well as the another being associated with the musculoskeletal system, we see this theme tie into how his body is all machinery.

This could play into something happening to Ortho in Chap 6.
