Reasons to not always take spirit communication posts at face value

Reading accounts of other people's easy and fabulous spirit communications might make us negatively judge our own practice if we lose sight of how much can be lost in translation.

(I'm not saying every spirit communication anecdote is inherently misleading)

LANGUAGE OF CONVENIENCE: OP is summarizing complex encounters as "the spirit said."

LOST NUANCE: A lot more tedious detail was happening behind the scenes; when personal detail is lost, the experience appears to be simple, easy, and vivid.

INTENTIONAL OBFUSCATION: The practitioner changed details of what happened on purpose, perhaps to share part of a personal or sacred story, without betraying their obligations.

THEY MEANT SOMETHING ELSE COMPLETELY: OP didn't mean they were having vivid communication experiences, it just sounded like that.

"I love it when my spirits help me throughout the day" can imply regular 2-way spirit communication or spiritual intervention.

But it can also mean, "it's easier to manage my anxiety when I focus on the idea that spiritual protectors are around me."

FALSE INFERENCE: OP meant what they said, we just assumed it meant something else. We might think a "powerful experience with Hekate" is supposed to mean shadows grow out of the walls and auditory hallucinations of baying hounds, when in reality OP just felt a strong sense of certainty and intuitive power.

HIDDEN COST: The rituals, initiations, careful planning, long-standing offering schedule, and perhaps years of practice aren't directly mentioned in the post; perhaps neither are spiritual exhaustion, burn-out, or other "ceiling" factors that prevent these experiences from regularly happening. Without this context, it can seem that everyone is having powerful experiences so easily.

Warding your eyes

This post is for my folks who currently use glasses, contacts, or other visual aid's!

What is Warding with your eyes?

This is a concept similar to taking on a witches name, however it has to do with your visual aids! They say that eye's are the windows to the soul, but what about people or entities or energies that are looking to disrupt our peace? Well this is a great ward to follow as a personal ward

I recently had this revelation when my glasses shattered in the sea after I slipped under the riptide and as I was grabbing my glasses under the water, a shell came and smashed them (I am ok, I am trained to handle that and am a strong swimmer). I ended up going to one of those minute labs to get new frames and lenses, but I realized something.

If eyes are a part of you that exposes a lot about your being, whether you believe in iridology, window theory, etc then why wouldn't you ward a possible weakness? Witches names are a name a witch takes on to act like a deflector, if someone hexes them using the wrong name then it doesn't touch down, so the idea of this spell is If someone attempts to harm you spiritually, you are now wearing 'different eye's' and can reflect the spell. All it takes is a bit of enchantment. We will be banking on the fact that glasses somewhat obstruct the eye (when you look at someone's eyes through glasses they can appear different, bigger, or smaller) but you can see them clearly.

The Spell

This spell is best done on a new moon, high tide, or on a Wednesday! all of these have correspondences of protection, deflection, etc. ingredients: - Glasses/eye aid - Cleaning solution - Cleaning cloth (If being done with contacts or other eye aids, adapt this to be the aids, whatever you use to clean them with, and IF NEEDED a drying apparatus) The Steps: 1. Set up your space how you choose to do so, set your aid down in front of you. Meditate over or reflect on what the glasses mean to you 2. Envision or create a chant that reflects the eye-dea (haha) of people/spirits/energies with bad intentions not being able to effect you, because they cant see the right person to harm because of the visual aid 3. Take your finger and stamp a sigil of warding either on the lens, contact case, or safe spot on the aid 4. Clean it off to 'rub it into' the device 5. Finish the spell how you choose to finish, and transition out of the ritual space I hope you all enjoyed! More content coming soon!

🔴 Maliciogenic - (intra-system abuse TW) refers to a headmate, subsystem, or otherwise that falls under created [/etc] umbrellas, but specifies that they were created by another headmate with malicious intent. For example, it could be that said headmate decided to create another headmate/subsystem/etc in order to cause uncertainty or instability in the system, or with the intent to harm the system or those within it in some way.

Soulform in this context refers to a member of a system or individual who holds the belief that they are, or were, their own soul to be their personal truth with no physical evidence to prove it either way." The body may be experienced as a gate itself, leading to one or multiple worlds besides shared reality. A gateway system may not have an innerworld that is experienced as internal to the system.[ The term co-location similarly describes an experience of living several existences in different realities, connected by gates."

🔵🟣 Walk-in - "Walk-in is a word that has different meanings in different system communities. A common definition refers to a headmate who comes from elsewhere in the inner world or another world other than shared reality. This phenomenon or manifestation most commonly occurs within gateway systems, or similar types. The term may also be used in tulpamancy or thoughtforms to describe a tulpa that was not created by the host and appear fully formed. There are many different explanations for why this can occur among tulpamancers and some don't consider them tulpas at all."

Agatha origin conspiracy theory

Ok, girlies hear me out on this one. 

So I've been toying with this idea of scarlet witches being forged again and again, as in Wanda wasn't the first scarlet witch but there were more before her, as they say, "The Scarlet Witch is not born, she is forged" and there have been many nuclear disasters or stuff like that, that could amplify 'the scarlet witch's' power. We also know that scarlet witches are not 'real witches' cuz they didn't inherit the magic from their parents and also they are 'harbingers of chaos' and are destined to end the universe so the 'real witches' community thinks of them as some dark creature, someone not to be consorted with, as outcasts or something. Like their magic is 'dark magic' or magic that should not be practised or whatever witches do. Also, witches don't need 'men' to have babes, if we've learnt anything from agathario. So what I think is that Evanora had some fling with another witch and she got pregnant with her babe but sometime later she found out that the other witch was a scarlet witch. That's why she despises Agatha even before she was born as in the 'I ought to have killed you the moment you left my womb' statement. And that is why she thinks of Agatha as a dark creature just like her other mother. Also, scarlet witches have red magic and Evanora has blue magic so as a result Agatha has purple magic. Also, I don't know if magic can be siphoned or not but we only saw Agatha do that and in 'Wandavision' Wanda also absorbed Agatha's magic so I'm assuming that this 'magic stealing' powers of Agatha are a result of her heritage. She was able to steal 'the scarlet witch's' magic and 'demiurge's' magic which is chaos magic and no other characters have been known to do that, which means Agatha must have some chaos magic in her blood, that's why she could do that. And maybe that is why the darkhold told Agatha about Wanda's existence. And about the temple of scarlet witch having idols of two boys next to her, we don't know if that was always like that, maybe during Agatha's scarlet witch mother's time it was Agatha's idol. Also this could explain why a cosmic creature (death) consorted with Agatha.

Anyway that was my ramblings on why 'Wanda is in some ways Agatha's mommy'

Agatha All Along has made Wanda’s last words to Tommy so much more powerful. Tommy has woken up in the body of an unloved and abused boy who has nobody and nothing. But at the end of his previous life, his mother looked directly at him when she said “We could never truly leave each other, even if we tried. You know that, right?” Even though Tommy’s lack of witchcraft makes amnesia even more likely for him than for Billy, there are also several facts that make it just as likely that he does remember Westview. One is simply his lack of love and support as Tommy Shepherd. In his lonesome new life, his mind will grasp desperately for any signs that he is loved, or that he has ever been loved … and it is inevitable that Wanda’s words will return to him, likely in a dream. Reaching out for love, he will remember his Mom and Dad who adored him, who fought witches and murderous AIs to protect him. He also will sense Billy, just as Billy senses him, his name likely being his first word when he emerges from the pool.

There are some other possible factors. Though not a witch like his brother, Tommy is a product of Chaos Magic. There must be some magic contained within his powers that make him a far more mystical being than his similarly-powered uncle ever was. Also, the fact that Billy was reliving their last moments together at the moment their souls reconnected and Tommy was guided back to life. Highly likely those memories were shared between them. Perhaps it was Tommy himself who gave those memories back to Billy as they made contact.

This could be a result of Tommy and Billy’s balance as twins, as two halves of one whole - one half remembers Westview and the other does not. For the past three years, Billy has breathed for them, and Tommy has carried the memories with him in the incorporeal plane for them. The core elements of their existence - the memory and the here-and-now - were shared, split between them. Now, Billy has given Tommy his life back, and Tommy has begun giving Billy the memories back.

Witch tips for the Neurodivergent witches

I don’t know if any of you know this, but I am on the spectrum and as such have a hard time remembering things that most people do automatically (specifically in self care). With that in mind, I was just brushing my teeth a few minutes ago when it came to me. Why not use witchcraft in the daily routine of self care. As a techno witch, most of my self care tools are electronic. So, here is the breakdown.

Brushing teeth

- your electronic toothbrush is a wand that can not only heal your mouth, but also allow you to amplify your verbal abilities in magic and communication. Bonus points for mint toothpaste.

- use the time you brush your teeth to meditate and relax your mind a bit. This is quite useful for those of us who are empaths or telepaths.

Shaving

- for those of you who are biologically male and shave your face, consider this a form of glamour. You’re cutting away the excess problems and focusing your mind on what is important. You’re also making yourself more attractive to those who you want to gain favor with.

- for those who are biologically female or shave your legs, the above applies with the added effect of enhancing physical speed and strength. By shaving your legs you’re cutting out weaknesses that you perceive (men can do this too with the face shaving) and you’re allowing yourself to be seen as your best self.

Showering

- consider the shower itself as a cleansing bath. Possibly using a shower speaker to create a sound bath and revitalize your aura. Create playlists that benefit what you want to achieve.

Non tech self care witchcraft

- Deoderant: protection of your body and your aura. Also useful for glamours.

- Makeup: The following list is a collection of uses.

- Lipstick: color magic, glamours, enchanted speech.

- Flavored lip balm: depending on the flavor, everything from truth to persuasion.

- Foundation: Mental stability and resolve

- Concealer: Invisibility and protection

- Blush: Bring out attractive qualities

- Eye shadow: color magic and psychic enhancement

- Mascara: Energy revitalization since it makes your eyelashes look fuller.

- Brush: untangling knots and problems as well as straightening your tangled thoughts out.

This is a small look into neurodiversity and witchcraft.

Since I just referenced this post in [a comment on another post] on a similar topic, I figured I would revolve this 🤓

Musings on Components

Please know I’m not trying to make any grand absolute statements with this post; I’m simply thinking out loud, as it were.

Some recent posts about components (both [physical] and [not]), as well as thoughts triggered through reading mountainmanhealing‘s ongoing [Folk Magic 365] series, have been making me contemplate the nature of components used in various magickal workings. Sometimes, depending on the specific working or the specific tradition it’s being worked in, there are items, tools, or reagents that are interchangeable, and some that aren’t.

I started thinking about things within my own tradition of magick, and why some things I seem to instinctively “know” are specifically necessary, and why some things are okay to swap out for stand-ins. In these self-examinations, there were three broad categories into which I noticed things falling:

Ornamental Aesthetics

Symbolic Iconography

Literal Representation

After the cut, I try to explain what I mean by each of these in a little more detail. Again, I’m not trying to say this is, unequivocally, How Things Are™; I’m just sharing some observations I’ve made through the examination of my own practice :)

Ornamental Aesthetics

These are the things whose primary purpose in the ritual or spell is decorative, or simply to help put you in the proper state of mind. They don’t directly add to the power of your magick, nor do they directly influence the outcome of the working. This is not to suggest such trappings are not important, just that their importance is primarily psychological - they serve as subconscious triggers to help get you into a desired state of mind. But beyond that, their inclusion or exclusion has no direct impact on the working itself.

An example of this is Ceremonial Dress. The wearing of specific, magickal use only, clothing is a subconscious, psychological, trigger to help change your perspective - The outside influences the inside, and by having specific clothing you only wear for magickal workings, by putting it on you trigger an automatic shifting of gears in your mind. The clothes themselves add nothing to the magick; they are ornamental, and the working can be completed just as well without them.

Symbolic Iconography

These are items and components that are necessary for the success of the working, but whose magickal significance is purely (or at least, mostly) symbolic, thematic, or correspondence based. Things falling into this category represent an idea, theme, or power-contribution integral to the working, but could be swapped out for something else that meets the same symbolic requirements.

Examples of this are … well, pretty much the bulk of the material components of spell work I think. This is how correspondence tables are formed, and how many tools obtain their ritual value.

Literal Representation

Sometimes a cigar is just a cigar, and sometimes an item or component being called for is important because of what it is, not because of what correspondence it holds. If things in this category are requisite for the working, they are non-negotiable precisely because of what they are and/or the place/significance they hold within a tradition.

An example of this is would be a fumigation a spiritual or ethereal entity has specifically called out as being pleasing to them. They may like it because of the way it smells, or the way it makes them feel, but it is that specific fumigation which they’ve stated is their “favorite” (for lack of a better term). Using something else would not be appropriate, because this is personal and meaningful for them in a way completely separate from any correspondences we’ve attached to it.

I think an important idea to call out is how things that are Literal Representations can sometimes, as a direct result of that literal application, take on Symbolic Iconography for themes associated with its corresponding Literal Representation. When this happens, it becomes even more important that the role of the item in your current working is clearly understood: are you using the item in a context that fits with its literal application, or are you using the item solely for it’s symbolic role?

For example, in Solomonic Magick hyssop is an important item in cleansing and purification your “temple areas” as a Literal Representation because it was specifically called out by God for that purpose. However, because of the long-standing literal application of hyssop with cleansing and purifying, it grew to also take on a role of  the Symbolic Iconography of purification. So now, you see hyssop being used in a multitude of ways where themes of purification are being tapped. In some Solomonic Magick cases, it would be perfectly acceptable to swap out hyssop for another purification-themed component, but in other cases it would not. This is why I have been having such an [intense dilemma] over learning modern-hyssop may not really be biblical-hyssop.

At any rate… I think this whole thought deconstruction process has made me appreciate the nuances of magick even more, and has encouraged me to have an even stronger relationship with the tools of my trade - by getting to know them better, I can actually get to know my own magick better :)

CPaW Ramifications

When analyzing the work of others, and even your own work, it becomes very important to understand what classifications the components fall into. If you don’t have easy access to a particular herb or mineral what other things you’re able to successfully substitute in will be dependent on where the original component fell on this scale.

Was that herb or mineral being used solely due to its correspondence traits?

Was it a single trait being harnessed, or was that component acting as a binding agent to link influences from other components?

Does that component have cultural significance (within the context of the spell/ritual) above and beyond it’s general correspondence traits?

Is it uniquely important to this context in its own right?

That last one is the most difficult to substitute for. If you identify something as playing a Literal Representation role in the spell/ritual, you may want to find a different spell/ritual - it will probably take you less time to find a different working that fits than it would to find an acceptable substitute for a Literal Representation component.

"The Forgotten Mother: How Erasing the Divine Feminine Corrupted Spiritual Truths and Empowered Patriarchy"

The Suppression of the Divine Feminine:

I remember when they tore down her image. The Asherah pole stood tall beside Yahweh’s altar, a symbol of the divine mother’s nurturing presence. But Josiah’s men came with fire and iron, hacking it to splinters. They said she was an abomination, that Yahweh alone should be worshipped. But we knew better. The mothers whispered her name in secret, praying for fertility and protection. They could burn her symbols, but they couldn’t erase her from our hearts.

I was a priestess of Astarte. We danced under the moon, honoring the goddess of love and war. But then the men came, calling her a harlot, twisting her name into a curse. Our power was stolen, our voices silenced. But the goddess still lives in the blood of every woman who remembers.

They feared the light she offered because it made their authority fragile. So they buried her words beneath the weight of their dogma.

I heard the words from the pulpit: “Let your women keep silent in the churches, for it is not permitted unto them to speak.” My heart burned, but my lips stayed shut. They said I was born from man’s rib, destined to serve and obey. Paul’s letters—Corinthians, Timothy—became my shackles. The men claimed divine order, but I knew it was fear. Fear of the power they couldn’t control.

When he took me as his fourth wife, I knew my fate. The Qur'an allowed it, as long as he treated us “fairly,” but fairness meant nothing. My worth was measured in obedience, my defiance punished by law. “Men are in charge of women,” they said, and Surah An-Nisa sealed my fate. I was his possession, veiled and hidden, my voice lost beneath layers of scripture.

While the narratives above are a work of fiction,  the events and doctrines mentioned are historically documented. 

Here’s a quick breakdown:

1. Asherah Suppression:

Historical Fact: The Bible records King Josiah’s reforms in 2 Kings 23:6, where Asherah poles were destroyed to consolidate monotheistic worship of Yahweh. Archaeological finds, like inscriptions from Kuntillet Ajrud, mention “Yahweh and his Asherah.”

2. Demonization of Astarte:

Historical Fact: Archaeological evidence includes the discovery of nude female figurines in ancient Israelite sites. These figurines, often associated with goddesses like Astarte. 

Additionally, in the biblical narrative, king Solomon introduced the worship of the Phoenician goddess Astarte, referred to as "Ashtoreth" (Ashera) in the Masoretic text. 

3. Suppression of Sophia in Gnosticism:

Historical Fact: Sophia is central in Gnostic texts like Pistis Sophia and The Sophia of Jesus Christ, which were removed and banned as heretical after the Council of Nicaea (325 CE) and other early Church councils that defined orthodoxy.

4. Women as Property in the Bible:

 Exodus 20:17 lists a neighbor’s wife among possessions like a house, servants, and livestock. Genesis 3:16 establishes the hierarchical relationship post-Eden.

5. Pauline Suppression of Women:

 1 Corinthians 14:34-35 and 1 Timothy 2:11-12 explicitly instruct women to remain silent and subordinate in church, influencing Christian gender roles for centuries.

6. Islamic Suppression of Women:

 Surah An-Nisa 4:34 outlines male authority over women, permitting men to discipline their wives. The Qur'an allows up to four wives if treated justly, though interpretations and implementations vary widely across cultures and history.

The removal of goddesses like Asherah, Sophia, and Shekinah from spiritual traditions wasn’t accidental—it was systematic. Archaeological evidence, such as inscriptions from Kuntillet Ajrud in ancient Israel, shows early Hebrews worshipped Yahweh and his Asherah. Yet, over time, Asherah was erased from sacred texts, her presence scrubbed from worship as monotheism took root. The Deuteronomistic reforms under King Josiah (2 Kings 23) describe the destruction of Asherah poles and temples, further evidence of the active removal of the goddess from public worship.

Similarly, Sophia, the embodiment of divine wisdom, is central in Gnostic texts like The Sophia of Jesus Christ and Pistis Sophia, but these were labeled heretical by the early Church and excluded from the canonical Bible. In mainstream Christianity, the divine feminine became fragmented or wholly absent, replaced by male-centric doctrines. Even the Shekinah, a feminine presence representing divine immanence in the world, was relegated to the fringes of mystical Kabbalistic thought rather than mainstream theology.

Despite this suppression, echoes of the divine feminine persist, particularly in Kabbalah. The Shekinah is still recognized as the feminine aspect of God’s presence, dwelling within Malkuth, the Sephirah representing the material world. But this divine connection was corrupted by the Church’s focus on material domination, wealth accumulation, and earthly power rather than spiritual enlightenment.

In part two of this chapter we will discuss how the corruption of this Devine connection is apparent within the church and manifest itself on each one of the Qliphoth.

What im actually doing as a college witch

Hello! I have finally settled into university after a long couple months getting all my affairs in order, and I wanted to do an update post to my university witch series and tell you about tips and tricks that worked for me, and ones that didn't work so much. I am a transfer student, living in campus apartments, and here are some things im doing to keep the magic alive in my life :)

Things that work

I brought a couple decks with me, but I mostly have switched to online formats like using online rune casters or even using a random wheel picker to do things

I have been using a lot of water magic, using crystal elixirs and rue water (no one is allergic!) to protect my apartment in a college friendly way

I dont really have space for wands or candles, so instead I enchanted my room spray for certain goals, created an academic perfume oil for tests, and enchanted my medications

I use a lot more makeup magic, so certain shades of eyeshadow for test days, using under eyeliner

Created a sigil for testing calm, and another one to help draw anxiety out from me and you just throw it away to keep it away from you

Nap magic has become a really big part of my life, my favorite spell has been saying a prayer before my nap to be fully recharged so I can retain information better

Doing little bits of divination here and there

Nature magic! My campus has a lot of spaces to check out plants and walk with history, so that’s been very grounding

“Sleep magic” so before bed I like to honor water by going to a sacred space in my mind and using wave noises to sleep, it’s a way to have a sacred moment every day easily!

HAIR MAGIC!!! Vailing, braiding, and other stuff with my hair has been amazing! I keep a crystal in my bun, cover my hair for certain observations, and braid it when trying to do stuff. Plus it’s been a great way to connect to my culture

Honest to god baneful magic saved my ass when I got into some hot water so I’m keeping that close to me

What hasn’t worked for me

Daily meditation, I just lack the time to actually sit down and do it, so instead I’ve been integrating it into my mornings and lunch time by eating outside to ground myself

Essential oil magic, as much as I love it, a lot of people are sensitive to scents so I try to just enchant my perfume and body spray instead and pair with a sigil of the day

“Study magic” in general can be really tedious especially when you need to lock in, I would recommend pre-enchanting your notebooks for retention, and just focusing on the content

Any physical items like crystals are great at home, but because I am in so many labs and lectures they tend to just be left home, instead just try to integrate what you can

Really intentional “self care” stuff, like affirmations and such can be really hard to remember, so instead take some time before showers or self care time to just breathe and reflect, and that can be a good enough reset!

As I think of things I hope to include more of my experience as a college witch! I wanted to be transparent in what things worked and what things didn’t, so this was a wonderful check in! Feel free to leave your college magic tips or opinions in the comments!
