the evil cycle of. a term gets popularised with good intention -> gets overused / stretched so far that it doesnt mean anything any more -> loses all its weight and gets memed on -> now the problem it was trying to communicate is still there but we've lost a helpful term to the waves :(

say for example people popularise the idea of "thinking critically about media / consuming media critically" with good intentions - we should be thinking about the media we consume and its political stance and messages, thats good!! -> people get insane with it and start pushing the idea that people online need to declare that they consume media critically on everything because. ??? everything is problematic. you are assumed guilty of the crime of enjoying a Show that Has Problems, punishment Death unless you repent publicly -> the term obviously uses its power and becomes a source of jokes as people start being like i consume this Uncritically. this is funny BUT -> the type of thinking that led to the original phrase's use comes back again, but this time the phrase is nothing more than a joke -> leads to people being like "i consume this media uncritically" on south park. white baby you should be thinking critically about that one actually. its kind of deeply important that you do.
