AFRICANGLOBE – After 34 years of injustice, the family of Timothy Coggins may finally get a chance to see his killers get what they deserve. In a crime that is reminiscent of the brutal killing of Emmett Till, Coggins was murdered in Griffin, Georgia, in 1983, which is 40 miles south of Atlanta. Coggins, 23, was killed after he was seen leaving a bar with a White woman on Oct. 7, 1983. Coggins was stabbed multiple times in the neck, stomach, and back. He was eventually tied to a pick-up truck with a chain around his leg and dragged. Coggins’ lifeless body was severely damaged when he was found.

7 january 2011  God. That was a night. Dad was always gone when we were kids. Travelling the state doing his whatever he did. As we understood it, my dad was practically FBI....for UPS...which I now know is a bunch BULL. Clay and I used to call him “Robocop”. He was so militant about his job....loss prevention for the United Parcel Service. Still makes me want to salute. Drugs and shakedowns and the like. Sigh. Whatever. We spent so much time with Mumma. She set so many habits that I still have. Late nights. Letting it go until the very last moment. Talking and talking and talking some more. I still can say anything to her. And my children know that they can do the same....with me. We had been out.....at Chuck E. Cheese. Our first time there. Was a big deal. We did not do that sort of stuff as kids. In fact, we did not eat out much. They went out. We were allowed out for a fish fry if my Grandma was not around to babysit. Other than eating out in Wausau...we just did not do that often. Makes me laugh...I never had a happy meal when I was a kid. Never. Not kidding. My children are really making up for that one. I just have no memory of craptastic toys..other than what came in cereal boxes. McDonald’s was saved for special....Grandma. I remember the bickering. Back of the blue station wagon. Music turned up to drown us out. Bouncing around. You are on my side...no, you are on my side was going on. I was the first to walk up the back porch steps. Slapped at my brother and told him how dumb he was for leaving the back door wide open. Was two steps in the door before I felt that huge lurch in my tummy. It felt like a screeching halt. That slow motion thing happened...you know., where your body does not register. The screen door was propped open. Two more steps in and I stopped hearing my brother’s laugh. Almost all the way into the family room. Not the back hall anymore. And then I heard my mother tell me to get the hell out. I do not even remember running down the driveway.  Standing on the neighbor’s step, my Mumma banged on the door. Screen door rattling and light flipping on. The front of our house looked dark and awful...nothing like our house. Our house is always lit up and loud and cluttered. Not this....closed up I remember telling the police what I knew. Was the only one who went inside. I can tell you this...I did not know much. And Clay wasn’t smiling anymore. No one was. They walked us back over to “take a look at things”. More mancop sort of vibe. The front door was open...wide open. They had been in the house when I walked in. I slept with a bent up hanger for months. I needed a weapon of some sort. Something to bring me peace. Something physical....that I could hold. Something to give me back the control and protection I was needing. Took a couple of weeks before Mom figured out where the scratches on my neck kept came from....kept coming from. But she did not make me give it up. She has always been the sort to say that we will eat when we are hungry. She still is. And we do.

Pangasinan records 5 Covid-19 recoveries, 7 new cases

#PHnews: Pangasinan records 5 Covid-19 recoveries, 7 new cases

MALASIQUI, Pangasinan – The Provincial Health Office (PHO) of Pangasinan recorded five new recovered coronavirus disease 2019 (Covid-19) patients, while there are seven new confirmed cases in the province on July 16.

 In a Facebook post on Friday, the PHO, through the provincial government of Pangasinan’s page, said the recovered patients are a 47-year-old male from Barangay Bonuan Boquig in Dagupan City, a 21-year-old male from Barangay Dulig in Labrador town, a 21-year-old male from Barangay Tiblong in San Fabian town, a 28-year-old female from Barangay Malued in Dagupan City, and a 62-year-old female from Barangay Tiblong in San Fabian town.

 The recovered patients had been admitted to Region 1 Medical Center (R1MC) in Dagupan City.

 The PHO said a patient from Barangay Bonuan Boquig was admitted on June 28, male from Labrador town on June 27, male from San Fabian on June 29, female from Barangay Malued on July 3, and female from San Fabian town on July 4.

 Meanwhile, the new confirmed cases are a 49-year-old male from Barangay Doyong in Calasiao town, 35-year-old female from Barangay Bonuan Binloc, 35-year-old female from Barangay Bolosan in Dagupan City, a 38-year-old male from Barangay Concordia in Burgos town, a 28-year-old male from Barangay Bongar Malasiqui, 38-year-old female from Barangay Mancop in Calasiao town, and a 49-year-old female from San Carlos City.

 “They were admitted on Thursday to R1MC, Pangasinan Provincial Hospital (PPH), and some to their local government unit’s isolation facility,” the PHO said.

 The 49-year-old female resident of Barangay Quezon Boulevard in San Carlos City is the city's 7th Covid-19 confirmed case.

 The City Information Office confirmed on its Facebook page Thursday that the patient is currently admitted to the PPH. 

 Upon receiving the information, the local government unit has immediately dispatched the contact tracing team to identify individuals who possibly had close contact with the patient.

 As of 9 a.m. of July 17, Pangasinan has a total of 134 confirmed cases, 97 of them have recovered, 28 are admitted, and nine have died. (PNA)
