The lilac-breasted roller is a small, beautiful bird which is fairly common in Southern and Eastern Africa. It is Kenya's national bird.

The bird is even more colorful in flight, but I wasn't quick enough to get a clear photo then.

has anyone else considered the parallels between swan and masai because i can’t stop thinking about them

like they both lose their leaders in absolute worst case scenarios (even if cleon survives, up until the end the warriors really do think she’s dead) and are both thrown into leadership positions and are suddenly responsible for keeping everyone together in the wake of a tragedy

swan idolizes cleon in a similar way masai views cyrus (“cleon’s the best of us”) and just like masai loses his way because he doesn’t think he can be like cyrus, i think swan has a similar line of thinking

both of them spend the rest of the album trying desperately to live up to a legacy they don’t think they deserve

idea: Every time we see Masai, he's always flicking a lighter, with the exception of his first appearance with Cyrus. What if he used to smoke before meeting Cyrus? He would've stopped smoking when he met her because she showed him that smoking was a bad habit and Masai felt no need to smoke with a positive influence like Cyrus around.

After her death, he brings back out his lighter and smokes a cig in 'Still Breathin', until Cleon confronts him about Cyrus' dream and how it doesn't need to die with her. He puts out the cig and decides to try to seek justice with Cleon.

He still carries the lighter and flicks it every time we see him, reminding the audience that he's not going to be the same without Cyrus, but Cleon's character prevents him from tipping over the edge and falling completely back into his bad smoking habit.
