[He hummed to himself, they couldn't be far now, the intruder. Osiris could see footprints as to where they had broken in.]

He just needed a few things this time , having gathered some food ingredients for his kitchen. Carefully he pulled and tightened the straps on the waterproof bag he made for this travel. Securing the backpack but locking the straps around his waist and chest.

He hates coming to the surface because of one thing which was the change of pressure , the feeling of your body feeling like it would bloated like a dead corpse and slowly deflate was painful as hell.

He carefully walked into the hall planning on making it the cafeteria knowing there could be some more things he could grab his tail and wings tucked close to his own body for safety as he walked.

Here is a story about the fall of two Ancients

So Maverick was one of the Ancients who wore a Master Crown, though he didn't obtain it through normal means. He stole one and this lead to his physical form changing. At first things seemed normal with him while Osiris, Maverick's mentor, was researching why his student's form changed all of a sudden.

But Maverick's crown slowly started to warp his mind until one day he decided to try and take over the universe. And of course nobody was gonna let that happen so Osiris and some of his fellow friends gave chase in one of their ships called the Moonhunter as Maverick flew across dimensions.

At some point they've got Maverick surrounded and a big battle begins. Things are going crazy and some Ancients get injured, but it looks like they're winning as Osiris deals the final blow. And that would've been the end, but the Master Crown had a little trick up its sleeve.

Suddenly Maverick's body changes into what could only be described as an unspeakable terror. Everyone is shocked by the turn of events, but before they could react, Maverick unleashes a very powerful attack and flees. Mostly everyone is injured and mutually decide to leave for now. But Osiris simply stares out into space, wondering where he went wrong and ends up blaming himself for what happened to his student.

After Osiris recovers he's quick to wanna go back and try to save his kid, but everyone else is still in poor condition. So he makes the tough decision to go it alone. His friends tried to stop Osiris, but he wouldn't listen to them. So he ventures alone with no one by his side.

Osiris ends up searching for weeks, each day growing more and more desperate to find Maverick. At some point Osiris' Master Crown starts trying to warp his mind due to the constant stress and loneliness he's going though.

Eventually he finds Maverick and the two engage in battle once more, only this time things are much more difficult due to Maverick's immense power and Osiris' weak state. It looks like Osiris is about to loose until his Master Crown decides to mess with him at the worst possible time.

With everything going on Osiris ends up falling for the corruption and turns into a terrifying monstrosity, completely loosing himself and going on a rampage. As what was left of Maverick and Osiris fight eachother, a video message manages to reach the ship that the former Ancient was using.

Turns out Rowan had been trying to reach Osiris for weeks, but couldn't due to some unknown issues. Rowan and some of the other Ancients end up seeing the fight and quickly realize what had happened to Osiris. All they can do is watch as the two beasts destroy themselves in combat until it all ends with a laser struggle. They both end up getting hit and end up dissolving into nothing. Everyone watching is absolutely crushed that they lost two people who were dear to them and wallow in despair.

And that concludes the end of Osiris and Maverick, as well as the beginning of the end for all the Ancients.

Ikora was quiet for a long while as she pondered on this.  “So much would be changed,” she said quietly.  “Firstly, Osiris would have remained the Warlock Vanguard, and Saint-XIV would still be with us.  I would still be trying to learn everything from him, and you and I would not know each other as well as we do.”

“But what about the Vex?” Storm asked as she made a gesture at the giant time gate hanging off the edge of the tower.  “You’re building this for what?  The hope that was it draw out the Undying Mind?  We’ve been fighting that mind for years, Ikora, is there really any stopping them?  The Vex or lords of time, they work like a hive mind.”

“Perhaps Osiris would have been able to find the mind flayer then, if he had the help and the resources of the Tower.  Do not dwell on the past, child, it cannot be changed.”

“But maybe it can be!” The warlock exclaimed.  “If Osiris has really found answers in the infinite forest, maybe there’s a way that we can restore everything.  Find a timeline where Cayde wasn’t killed, where the red war never happened, where Oryx and Crota never tried to take our worlds, where the Iron Lords never discovered SIVA, where Osiris never left the City!”

Ikora stared at her pupil, her eyes cold as ice.  “Time is a fragile thing.  If you change one thing, Miss Page, you change the entire course of history.  The reality we know today will cease to exist.  If you take that theory of yours, see this.  Had Crota never fell through the Vex Gate, he never would have taken our moon and killed countless Guardians.  But your friend, Maverick, for example, he would not have lost half of his fireteam to the madness that ensued after Crota’s defeat.  You would not have lost your friends, Gilbert and Adam, in the following wrath of Oryx on Phobos.  You two would have not met.”

Storm fell silent as she looked behind her, where Maverick was standing by the ramen shop.  He waved at her, and motioned for her to come over.  She looked back at Ikora, who gave her a small smile.  “I suppose you are right,” she said softly.  “Things are better off how they are now.  And I wouldn’t exchange it for anything.”

Ikora smiled at her and nodded.  “Yes.  After all, it was only a hypothetical.”

Curse of Osiris frustrates me because in the end, instead of being hyped as a maverick of the vanguard exiled for his uncomfortable questions and shady but ultimately good intentions, he's just a crotchety guy who wants to explore reality forever.

He can stop fucking time to a standstill, something not even the Vex can do (and that's their whole schtick), prevent a nigh-omniscient vex mind from outright erasing us through sheer willpower, and regularly blows them the fuck out on a constant basis. The Vex despise warlocks-- they erased Praedyth completely from literally every timeline, and yet Osiris is not only kicking, he's just nonchalantly exploring all of reality because he can.

Motherfucker didn't need our help. He just needed a rebreather.

Also I'm kinda mad that the Infinite Forest wasn't used much at all and the strikes in the expansion were just copypasted from the story missions almost verbatim

Old Tomb Raiders on New Macs

With Apple's decision to end 32-bit support, and introduce Catalyst to allow conversion of iPadOS apps to macOS, from 10.15 Catalina onwards, Dave has made a further update to the otherwise mothballed 'Old TRs' article to document its consequences, as well as updates to the Boot Camp and emulation sections due to Microsoft ending support for Windows 7 in January 2020. Since Dave now games on hardware other than Macs, these are based on documentation and news coverage rather than experience.

Apple have also announced the depreciation of the OpenGL and OpenCL graphics libraries in favour of their own Metal API. When these are in turn removed from some future release of macOS, further games, including TRs, may be affected. It's possible that no current Mac TR will run at that stage, or that manual installs of the older libraries may be required.

STOP PRESS: While preparing this update a number of viable sources have indicated that Macs based on Apple's own ARM chips, possibly a 12-core version of the A14, will appear during 2021. Previous Mac CPU transitions (M68K->PPC->x86->x86-64) have offered temporary backwards-compatibility at best. Any further updates will have to wait on a formal Apple announcement.

Also, Valve ended native VR support on Macs at the start of May 2020 because that relies on OpenGL features (Vulkan) not directly supported in Metal. Windows-on-Mac options (BootCamp, emulators) should still function.

Aspyr Meadia have pointed out that after OS 10.14 Mac OS will no longer support 32 bit games:http://www.feralinteractive.com/en/news/933/

This means that TR Anniversary and Underworld won't be playable on Macs running the new 64 bit (only) systems.

With no new Mac or iOS Tomb Raider news in the last several months it would appear that MacRaider is in a state of stasis. Indeed, with The Rise of the Tomb Raider only just now releasing on PS4 it looks unlikely (hardware specs not withstanding) that even that title will make its way to the Mac platform.

It was my intention, when taking over the site that it would be a static repository for the information accumulated by Kerrie and while there has until recently been the occasional report by me and the inclusion of the ' Old TRs on newer Macs' page kindly contributed by Dave it seems that MacRaider may be reverting to that original vision.

When MacRaider started, Tomb Raider could be played on a lowly 7200/90 Power PC Macintosh running System 7. It would seem that the latest iterations of the game have not only outgrown MacRaider but possibly the Mac platform itself.

For those who still enjoy playing the early games the information will remain available here for the interim and I am still more than happy to answer any email queries about those games.

Aspyr have posted information on their support site that an Apple security update could break some Mac games. As TR2 is included in the list of affected games it might be prudent for users to check this information..

Also of interest is the news that some of Aspyr's games will no longer support Mac OS 10.7 or older. Although Tomb Raider is not specifically mentioned it would be reasonable to expect that some games will be affected.

Square Enix have released yet another Lara Croft game for mobile devices. 'Lara Croft Go' is available for iOS and Android from the Apple App store for around US$5. I haven't played much of it yet so too early to form an opinion but the game is getting good reviews.

For those with iOS devices a new Lara Croft adventure called 'Relic Run' is now available free on the App Store. Game play is very similar to another popular game in the same genre. I haven't played much of it yet, mainly because I'm not very good at 'runners' but the graphics look good....and it's free!

Tomb Raider II has been released for iOS and is available on the App Store. I haven't finished TR 1 for iOS, mainly due to the controls which eventually took their toll. Judging by the many complaints around the net the controls for TRII are no better. A shame really since both games look really good on an iPad with retina display. Square Enix stubbornly refuse to make the game bluetooth keyboard compatible even though Apple i devices are.

The next Tomb Raider game in the current series has been announced entitled 'The Rise of the Tomb Raider' Since the game seems to be following in the footsteps of last years reboot it doesn't seem any more likely that I'll be playing this one particularly if the current trailer is any indication.

Of more interest (to me) is the announcement of a sequel to Lara Croft and the Guardian of Light enetitled 'Lara Croft and the Temple of Osiris'. The game will be available on PC, X Box One and PS4 and will incorperate four player co-op.

The 'Old Tomb Raiders on New Macs' page has been updated. Dave has brought the page up to date as of Mavericks. This will probably be the final update for the page due to changes in his gaming set up and the increasing improbability of playing any of the early Tomb Raiders in the newest Mac OS.

I would like to take this opportunity to thank Dave for his tireless work on what is surely one of, if not the most comprehensive articles on the subject.

I would also like to remind everyone that the page includes a handy, colour coded section for those wanting to quickly ascertain whether or not the TR they want to play will run on their hardware/software.

Happy Birthday Mac

January 30 2014 marks the 30th anniversary of the Macintosh computer. I have been using Macs for most of that time and have seldom touched a PC. MacRaider is still being produced on the same Power Mac G4 as it was when I took over the site in 2008 running OS9 Classic. Obviously MacRaider would not exist without the Macintosh computer and I may never have played Tomb Raider if I wasn't already using the platform.

At last some interesting classic Tomb Raider news; Tomb Raider 1 has been released for iOS (iPhone/Pad etc). Although not specifically Mac related I thought it worthy of a new post. I have only just begun playing on an iPad with retina display and the graphics look great. Some people have complained about the controls but I haven't found them too bad. Perhaps steering Lara while running could be improved. The game is available from the Apple App Store now for a measly US99c.

RIP Tomb Raider 1996 to 2013

With the release of the Tomb Raider reboot it is obvious that the game I have loved playing for more than a decade is gone and has been replaced with something far darker, more bloodthirsty and (for me) disturbing. It was always my hope that Tomb Raider would become more light hearted and even include more of Lara's dry humour but it seems that the developers have decided to take the opposite route and I have no wish to play a game which focuses on the pain and suffering of any character let alone my favourite, Lara. FWIW I believe that the old formula had a lot of life left in it and many more areas to be explored. Tomb Raider has joined a genre that I have no interest in no matter what name is given to the game or character.

Reportedly the developers have at least gotten the gameplay right with the new game. It's just a pity that they could not have implemented this within the old format.

With all of this in mind I would like to pay tribute to a game which has given me many hundreds of hours of gaming pleasure but has now (for some of us) come to an end.

It now remains to be seen how relevant MacRaider is in 2013. If people are still accessing the site for information/help regarding the original games I would appreciate an email so I can get some idea of the level of interest.

I will acknowledge that the new game has received excellent reviews. I think it is a pity though that the developers have had to alienate some die hard Tomb Raider fans and take the path they have.

As there has been no real, new Mac/Tomb Raider news since the release of Underworld for OSX and Aspyr haven't seen fit to port any more of the early TRs to OSX since releasing TR2, it seems that MacRaider might be in a state of stasis. The site will remain online as a support base and I will report any new news should anything arise.

I have posted an update to the Old Tomb Raiders on New Macs article from Dave.

FWIW recent news/footage of the new Tomb Raider reboot have only served to galvanise my opinions of the game and it is doubtful that I would even play the game once it reaches the cheap bins. A question to ponder might be: when does Tomb Raider stop being Tomb Raider and start being some other game with only the title and character name attached to it?

It has become apparent that if you choose to run the Classic Tomb Raider 2 Golden Mask levels in the new Intel game you will not be able to save your progress i.e. if you try to save the game will quit to the desktop. There is currently no fix for this but if a workaround is found I will certainly post it here.

I have received information from Attila that the Classic TR2 Gold levels can be played in the new OS 10 re-release. Also Manu has been able to get anti-alissing and wide screen working although this requires a special app. This and all other information on the new Intel TR2 can be found on the Tomb Raider II & The Golden Mask page (link at left).

I have been in contact with Aspyr Media to try and find out more information about the re-release of TR2. They were forthcoming with a few extra snippets of info:

The re-release will be available for download through the Apple App Store. It will be compatible with OS 10.6 and 10.7.

I asked if The Golden Mask levels would be included but this was not answered.

I also asked about the possibility of the other Classic Tomb Raider games receiving the same treatment and was told that: 'We are assessing the re-release of multiple titles from our catalogue to be released in the same manner'. Slightly cryptic but encouraging ;-)

What is MacRaider?

MacRaider is a one-person Mac-user fan site, dedicated to bringing you the best possible information to help ease your way through the Tomb Raider games.

On MacRaider you'll find detailed information on every version of Tomb Raider, from the original 'Tomb Raider' of 1996 (released as 'Tomb Raider Gold' on Mac in 1999) to 'Tomb Raider Anniversary, released in 2007.

Note that much of the information is equally applicable to the Mac, PC or console games as the gameplay is virtually identical!

MacRaider is a very plain site, with none of the bells and whistles that are infesting many other sites. There is a reason for this - my intent has always been to make MacRaider accessible to any Mac user who can play any of the Mac Tomb Raiders. Therefore I chose a 1996 Power Mac 7200/90 with a 33.6k modem as a baseline - anything on this site can be easily accessed on any Mac from then on!

Did LeBron James reveal he almost joined the Knicks?

LeBron James and Dwyane Wade played their final NBA game against each other on Monday at STAPLES Center in Los Angeles. Afterward, as the two shared some laughs surrounded by media, Wade told LeBron, “I appreciate you for letting it end here” -- here, being L.A., where LeBron just signed in the offseason.

LeBron’s apparent response: “It was either here or at the Garden, that’s it.”

As in Madison Square Garden. As in ... was LeBron saying his free agency options were the Lakers and the New York Knickerbockers?!

To pour a pile of sand in the wound, ESPN Brian Windhorst chimed in to say LeBron would have ruled out the Knicks based on how Phil Jackson treated LeBron’s friend Carmelo Anthony.

There are some alternate interpretations of what LeBron said. He could have meant TD Garden in Boston. He could have just been reflecting on the fact that he subjected Wade to a massive media crush in his final game against LeBron, one only rivaled by what would exist in New York. He could absolutely be trolling Kevin Durant, who is being positioned as the future savior of the Knicks. Maybe Wade was thinking about signing with Knicks. The evidence here -- a tossed-off, half-audible quote overhead by sensitive mics -- isn’t robust.

But also, LeBron has a history of saying things in these moments to stir the pot. Consider the pot stirred, sir.

West Week Ever: Pop Culture In Review - 6/9/17

  In an interesting shake-up over at CBS, Erinn Hayes has been let go from her role as wife to Kevin James in Kevin Can Wait. They say that the show is going in a new direction, which necessitated the firing. But here’s where it gets interesting. Leah Remini, who played James’s wife on King of Queens, popped up in the season finale as James’ former cop partner. Well, just before announcing Hayes’s departure, CBS announced that Remini would be joining the show next season as a series regular. Now, if you’ve never seen Kevin Can Wait, Kevin James plays a former NYC cop who tries to figure out how to adjust to his recent retirement. Based on the season finale, though, it seems like James’s character might be coming out of retirement. It’s just a strange move, seeing as how the show ended the season as the #1 new comedy on network TV – hardly a situation that necessitated a retooling of the show. Part of what critics praised was Hayes’s portrayal of James’s wife of 20 years. How do you just gloss over that relationship? I mean, they’ve gotta kill her off, but unless you do a time jump, you’ve gotta slog through all the grief stuff, which doesn’t lend itself well to a multicam comedy. And if they’re gonna fast track a relationship between James and Remini, will the audience accept it? It really feels like they blew a sure thing and, if they wanted to recreate The King of Queens, thy should’ve just revived The King of Queens! I’ve said that online since Kevin was announced!

Speaking of Remini, I’m starting to think she’s a Scientology double agent. Bear with me here: Scientology is a well-connected organization in Hollywood that allegedly has the power to ruin your career with the information that they have on their members. If you ever leave the church, you’re pretty much done. Just look at the list of former Scientologists. On that list, Remini and Jeffrey Tambor are the one ones who even have a semblance of a steady career right now, and Tambor kinda skirted the issue by saying he never really joined the church. Remini, however, joined up as a child, and was a HUGE booster of the church. Then, in 2013, she turned on the church – not for its negative views on homosexuality (which is why Crash director Paul Haggis left) or its alleged illegal activities. No, she left because she got her feelings hurt after leadership clapped back at her. At Tom Cruise’s wedding to Katie Holmes, Remini asked why church leader David Miscavige’s wife wasn’t in attendance, and they basically told her she didn’t have clearance for that info (formal speak for “Nunyo Biznazz”). She didn’t trust that answer, and went further to file a missing persons report on Mrs. Miscavige. Then, she made it her mission to publicly discredit Miscavige, criticizing his leadership, citing reports of abuse in the Sea Org, and more. She went straight to the TOP with her blame game, yet NOTHING has happened to her. In fact, it’s probably rejuvenated her career. She got a successful show on A&E called Leah Remini: Scientology and the Aftermath, where she’s basically telling all their secrets. When the show debuted, the church issued a statement attacking her. Yet, she’s working more now than she was before. So, there’s two things happening here: either Scientology isn’t as powerful and litigious as we’ve been led to believe OR they’re in on it. It’s yin and yang. Every action has an equal and opposite reaction. While Scientology has its critics, it never really had an enemy before. Why not create one where they could control the narrative? It’s like learning that Captain America has secretly been Hydra the whole time. Long story short, I’m not entirely convinced she’s left the church, especially over something as trivial as what’s reported to have started the whole thing. And she’s laughing all the way to the bank.

In other TV news, Tia and Tamera Mowry (yeah, they got married and have new hyphenated last names, but I ain’t got time for all that) are trying to get a Sister, Sister revival off the ground. And I don’t know anyone who wants this. If you were cool back in the 90s you probably never watched Sister, Sister, where a set of adopted twins didn’t realize they were twins until a chance meeting in a department store, a la The Parent Trap. Then they all move in together. It was the definition of “mediocre”, yet once ABC canceled it, it gained a new life over on The WB. The most memorable thing about it was that Marques “Batman” Houston, of the R&B group Immature/IMx, played their annoying neighbor Roger (kinda like a watered down Steve Urkel), and they’d constantly yell “Go home, Roger!” at him. Other than that, it was just a bunch of zany, mistaken identity twin shit – stuff that I’d hope adult Tia and Tamera had outgrown by now. What’s the story to tell? They both get divorced, and move in together with their kids? Sorry, Kate & Allie, Getting By, and the upcoming Raven’s Home have already covered that old chestnut. Are they single in the city, doing the same twin shit? Not interested. I don’t have a lot of faith in this one getting picked up, though, because they’re far behind where they need to be. Right now, they say they’re looking for a show runner to guide the project, but then they’d have to find a network. Sister, Sister was NO Full House, so I doubt Netflix would be interested. If anything, the only place I’d put it right now would probably be Freeform, even though the twins are slightly older than the target demo of that channel. Let this just be a lesson that not everything needs to be revived.

In other television news, DC’s Legends of Tomorrow has cast Tala Ashe as Muslim “hacktivist” Zari Adrianna Tomaz for season 3. She’s a computer whiz from 2030, so basically the team’s got their own Oracle/Felicity now – not that they really need it, with Gideon and all. Anyway, in comics Tomaz is actually an Egyptian who uses the Amulet of Isis to transform into the hero Isis. Before the New 52 reboot of the DC Universe, Isis was an important character in the weekly series 52, as she was in a relationship with Black Adam, and her brother, Osiris, was eaten by Sobek. Oh, and she had a cheesy TV show in the 70s. None of that’s gonna be in the Legends, I’m sure. Given the current political climate, and how loaded the name “Isis” is right now, I doubt they’ll actually ever call her that onscreen, either.

Today I give you “Vampires”, by The Midnight. My pal and thrifting partner, “Special Forces”, and I decided that this is the official theme song for Thrift Justice should it ever become a real show. Synthwave AND saxophone?! I wanna direct Skinemax movies just so I can score them with this entire album. So sexy. Right now, Thrift Justice is a USA drama circa 1990, and I ain’t got no problems with that!

{Her eyes softened in sympathy.}

"I'm sorry, I don't know where your home is honey."

{She said softly, tone gentle.}

[Footsteps approached the room. Osiris stepped inside. His arm was still bleeding, droplets of blood trickled down.]

"Come to apologise?" {Eleanor asked, her tone was mildly cold.}

"....."

[He said nothing, eye narrowed at Allo. He didn't like how close he was to his wife.]

"Where is he from?"

{Eleanor asked her husband, her dark eyes were filled with worry as she glanced back at Allo. He kept on calling her 'mum'... it wasn't like when Mikhail did it. No, he seemed like a scared kid trapped in an adults body.}

[He would pause then sigh.]

"He comes from down there," [He pointed down] "The blacksite. An experiment, he's been breaking into my office recently. Probably for food." [He hissed out slightly.]

"So he's hungry? Couldn't you have let him have the food?" {Her tone was hurt.} "Look what you've done to him.."

"No, you know what my orders are. Kill on sight love. I.. i'm sorry you had to see that, you know I don't like it when you see me on duty. I was just getting ready to go, of course he had to come break in. If I didn't deal with him, you know how HQ gets."

[He sighed again, sounding more tired and older than he had done before.]

[There had been a thief.]

[Osiris knew immediately, his office/kitchen area had been broken into.]

[He was not in the mood for this, not at all. He just wanted to get done with work and go home to see his wife, not to be dealing with an intruder.]

[He let out a huff, one of anger and grabbed his snare which was laying against his desk.]

"Hm.."

[He hummed to himself, they couldn't be far now, the intruder. Osiris could see footprints as to where they had broken in.]

[He followed them.]

He just needed a few things this time , having gathered some food ingredients for his kitchen. Carefully he pulled and tightened the straps on the waterproof bag he made for this travel. Securing the backpack but locking the straps around his waist and chest.

He hates coming to the surface because of one thing which was the change of pressure , the feeling of your body feeling like it would bloated like a dead corpse and slowly deflate was painful as hell.

He carefully walked into the hall planning on making it the cafeteria knowing there could be some more things he could grab his tail and wings tucked close to his own body for safety as he walked.

He felt a shiver run down his spine as he suddenly felt something was going to happen.
