If I had a penny for every madhouse flat ride with theming based on local folklore and really good music, I'd have two pennies. Which isn't a lot but I am pleased to have discovered they both exist and that the music is on Spotify.

Twists and Turns

Happy birthday to @ichlugebulletsandcornnuts​! Just for her, I’m writing total fluff for her favorite person from Six King Henry VIII Katherine Howard. This takes place before the regen. This is fluff and not angst at all. And because it’s her birthday, we’re releasing this in UK friendly timezone!! Hell yeah!

Are you ready? Here we go! 

“No, no, absolutely not.”

Katherine Howard pouted to the best of her ability as she faced Catherine Parr herself, who was very unamused by Katherine’s suggestion.

“We’re not giving a damn quid to that capitalistic mouse that has stolen so many tales from the public domain and has completely monopolized an industry to within an inch of it’s life-”

“Come on, Cathy!” Katherine whines. “I’ve heard Disneyland Paris is great this time of year-”

“We’re not supporting Walt Disney!” Catherine replies. “No way.”

Catherine perks up then. “I think what Cathy is trying to say,” she says, moving over to Katherine. “Is that she’d like to go to another place that’s not Disney.”

Katherine pouts. “Disney.”

Cathy crosses her arms across her chest. “No.”

“Disney.”

“No.”

“Disney!”

“NO!”

“DISNEY-!”

“Okay, alright!” Jane says, stepping in between the two. “Enough, you two!” She looks at Catherine. “We won’t go to Disney-” she starts, but then looks over at Katherine. “But we’ll go to whatever other amusement park you’d like, Kitty.” 

Katherine huffs, leaning back as she thinks... and then smiles.

“Okay, I’ve got just the place!”

When they arrive, both Katherine Howard and Anne Boleyn are the most excited.

“Thorpe has the best roller coasters,” Anne says with a bright smile. “The fastest one in all of the UK - or, er, whatever they’re calling it for Fight Nights. Not entirely sure what it’s called right now, but I’m sure we’ll find it.”

“We’ll go on that one last!” Katherine says with a big smile. She’s practically bouncing in her seat as they pull into the car park. “But we need to go on The Swarm, too. It seems cool!”

“Do you want to go on the scary rides with me, Jane?” Anna asks, tilting her head curiously. When Jane nods, Anna smiles brightly. “Brilliant!” 

“Nemesis Inferno seems cool,” Cathy remarks. “I’d bet one of the Ladies would want to go on with me.”

They all get out of the car and, with a bright smile, Katherine all but drags Anna towards the entrance.

“Hang on, hang on! You need your tickets!” Jane says, rushing after them. “And remember, we’re meeting up at the main gate for lunch!”

Katherine’s almost out of sight, but thankfully a familiar face stops her in her tracks.

“Joan!”

Sure enough, Joan is there, smiling brightly at the youngest queen as the other three Ladies in Waiting stand at her side. 

“Hello, love,” Joan says with a smile, looking behind Katherine as the other queens catch up. “Good morning, everyone. I hope the drive went well?”

“Maggie!” Anne says, rushing over to her lady. “You, me, Bessie, Anna, Samurai.”

“You’re on!” Maggie says, quick to grab the offered tickets from Jane and rushing off into the park. Bessie smiles as she offers an arm to Anna, the two rushing towards where Anne and Maggie were headed.

Catherine, Maria and Cathy decide to head towards Amity Beach, leaving only Katherine, Joan and Jane.

“Where’d you like to go, love?” Jane asks with a smile.

Katherine walks towards the map, tilting her head in thought as she looks it over.

“Hmm... do you want to just go walk around first?” Katherine asks, looking over at other two. “This is all a bit... overwhelming, to be honest.”

Jane smiles and gently takes Kat’s hand.

“Of course, love. We’ll do whatever you’d like.”

Jane gently pulls Katherine closer, smiling brightly as she wraps an arm around Katherine’s. “Come on now, we’ve got a few hours to go before we all meet up again.”

The trio walk around the park, starting off with the Walking Dead rides. Katherine tilts her head as she takes it all in, makes a small face as she walks past.

Jane chuckles. “Apparently people really love that show, eh?”

“It’s weird, but I guess I see the appeal,” Katherine says with a smile. “Their version of the walking dead is a bit more... dramatic, than reality, isn’t it? None of us look like that.”

Jane chuckles at that before they wander down the path, taking in everything. Katherine stays as close as she can, Joan right behind them.

“How’re you feeling, Kitty?” Jane asks. “It’s a lot of people, for sure.”

“Yeah,” Katherine agrees, looking around a bit uncertain. “But I’m pretty fine at the moment. Besides, I have you and Joan here, so...” Kat shrugs. “I’ll be fine.”

Joan smiles at that, but the trio wander on down the path until they hit the Screamplexx Cinema. Katherine frowns at that before looking back at Jane.

“Next time we do one of these,” Kat says, “we’ll do it not during October. Fright Night is cool and all, but...  dunno about an entire theme part dedicated to it.”

Joan chuckles, pointing away. “I think the others are having fun, at least.”

Jane and Kat look at where Joan is pointing... and Jane gasps. Katherine excitedly waves.

“Look at that!” Kat says, smiling widely. Sure enough, it’s Anna, Anne, Maggie and Bessie on the Blair Witch ride. They’re screaming, naturally, but they look like they’re doing well enough. 

“That should be a place we can get their photo from, if memory serves,” Joan says with a big smile. “Let’s see if we can find a good one of ‘em, shall we?”

As they walk towards the photos booth, Katherine suddenly takes off. Jane’s about to rush after her until she realizes who’s approaching: Catherine, Cathy and Maria.

“I thought you all were headed to the beach part?” Katherine asks, arm instantly linked around Maria’s.

“We did, but it was boring,” Cathy explains. “So we figured we’d wander around, try to find you lot.” 

Maria, Joan and Kat head towards the photo booth while Jane, Cathy and Catherine lag behind a bit.

“How’s she doing?” Catherine asks, looking over at Jane.

“Quite well, better than expected in all honesty,” Jane explains. “I didn’t expect her to be this okay with everything.” 

“She seems to be just fine,” Cathy says with a nod. “Honestly, I had forgotten the park does the whole horror theme this time of year, I probably would have said yes to that blasted mouse had I remembered.”

“Yeah, well,” Jane says, watching as Anne and Anna pull Katherine away. Kat looks back at Jane for permission, and when she nods, follows with excitement. “She’ll be fine, as long as-”

But then, Joan and Maria walk back.

"Saw.”

Jane blinks.

“What?”

“They’re going on Saw.”

“What?!?”

Jane all but sprints away, the others following close behind. 

Just as Jane’s about to catch up with the three queens, they’re cut off to her by the line starting.

So, naturally, she follows.

Jane pushes past a few people, saying her group was right in front, when she gets to them.

“Kitty, what’re you doing?” Jane asks nervously.

Katherine looks over and smiles. “We’re gonna try the ride!”

“It’s based off that movie, isn’t it?” Jane asks, walking with them as the ride gets closer and closer. 

“It is, but no one’s supposed to jump out at you or anything,” Kat replies. “Besides, apparently that’s only the first, like, minute or so of the ride. It’ll be a bunch of cheesy horror tropes, I saw it online.”

Anne raises an eyebrow. “You previewed all the rides?”

“Wanted to make sure I knew what I was getting into when you dragged me on,” Kat replies with a smirk, right before she looked over at Jane. “I’ll be fine, mum, I promise.”

Jane looks at Katherine, then at the others, and with a nod, she moves backwards.

“Alright, well... Catherine, Cathy, Joan, Maria and I will be-”

But then, Jane bumps into someone behind her.

And that’s when she realizes she’s a bit boxed into the line.

Katherine realizes this and smirks. 

“Oh, no, mum,” she says, gently pulling Jane close. “I don’t think you’re going anywhere.”

Outside of the ride, the group that hadn’t gone is trying to figure out where Jane was.

“I haven’t seen her exit anywhere,” Joan observes, frowning. 

Maria looks around. “Maybe she went to the exit?”

“We can just call her-” Catherine starts, but they’re interrupted by Cathy’s laughter. “What?”

Cathy points to the ride.

Sure enough, it’s Jane.

In the front row of the ride.

Holding onto Katherine for dear life.

“It’s alright, mum, look!” Katherine says, pointing at the familiar faces in the crowd. “We’re not even that high up!”

“Yet,” Jane mumbles, a bit scared as she holds onto Katherine’s hand. Kat chuckles, looking over at the others for a moment before she closes her eyes in fright. She says another prayer.

They continue to ascend.

“This is probably going to be the most entertaining ride of our trip,” Anne quips from right behind them, laughing with Maggie. Bessie and Anna also laugh as they continue towards the top. “Remember there’s cameras near the end, Janey-”

“Oh, shut it, Boleyn!” Jane yells, clearly panicked. She lets out a yell when she realizes they’re at the top. “If you let go of my hand, Katherine Howard, I swear-”

“I’ve got you, mum,” Katherine promises, looking over the edge with excitement.

They’re just at the top now...

... high in the sky...

and the scream that Jane lets out as they tip over the edge is the loudest any of them have heard her scream before, stage quips included.

They all scream in excitement as they almost head straight down, through the loops and turns of the ride, eventually coming to a stop. 

Katherine laughs as Jane flips off Jigsaw at the very end of the ride, just as they come to a halt.

“See?” Katherine quips as they get to a stop. “Not that bad, was it?”

Jane huffs, helping Kat off. “It was fun after the scary bit at the front,” Jane explains, linked arms with Katherine once again. “Did you like it, love?”

“Yeah!” Katherine says. “It was a total rush.” 

“I can only imagine what Janey’s face was during the ride,” Anna teases, earning a glare from Seymour herself. “Poor girl probably almost had a heart attack.” 

As soon as they walk out of the ride, the others are there to meet them, save for Anne and Maggie, who said they’d meed them in a moment.

“How in the world did you convince Jane to get on that?” Catherine asks, following the group away from the ride.

“They didn’t,” Jane mumbles. “I got trapped there when I went to go after Katherine.”

“She was very brave,” Katherine teased, earning a roll of the eyes from Jane. She’s smiling, though, since Katherine was so amused by it.

“I think that’s my share of frights for the day, though,” Jane says. “Whatever you lot do now, you’re on your own.”

“I’ll be more than happy to take Jane’s place in that,” Joan quips, smiling at her mistress.

Anne and Maggie arrive just then, and Jane knows immediately that something is up by the look in Anne’s eye.

“What did you two do?” Jane asks, raising an eyebrow. “Do we need to leave the park?”

“Oh, no, nothing like that,” Anne says nonchalantly, practically strutting over to Katherine and Jane. “Just, uh... picked up a souvenir.”

Jane’s eyes go wide and Katherine squeals in delight when Anne shows what she has.

“Oh, that’s going up on the fridge!”

Sure enough, it’s a magnet of all of them on the ride, Jane’s terrified gaze clear as they descended down the first slope. Katherine and the others look like they’re having the time of their lives, though, and it makes Jane smile. 

“You win this one, Boleyn,” Jane says, pulling Katherine a bit closer to herself. “But no more!”

“I’ve got blackmail for years now, Seymour, don’t need another one, thanks,” Anne quips, smiling at the others.

Katherine giggles as they all head off to lunch. The rest of the day goes as normal, and by the time they all head back to the car - an hour or so after dark, thanks to the majority of the group not wanting to do anything at night when it became more packed and a bit more scary - everyone’s exhausted. 

“We’ll meet you guys back home,” Joan says, watching as Maria gets in shotgun of the lady’s car. Maggie is half asleep on Bessie’s shoulder as they pack it in.

“Right, text us when you get there, please,” Jane says as everyone heads in. Catherine would be driving with Anne as her shotgun copilot, leaving the rest of the group to filter inside. With final goodbyes and goodnights for the day, the queens all head inside the car.

Katherine, naturally, is with Jane in the back while Cathy and Anna sit in the middle row.

“Will you two be alright staying up?” Jane asks. “I can drive or sit shotgun if you’d like.”

“Nah, Catalina and I got this,” Anne says. “I’ve got a bunch of caffeine if we need it, but it’s only an hour drive or so with this traffic.” 

Jane nods, chuckling quietly when Katherine nuzzles into her shoulder.

“Are you tired, love?” Jane asks quietly, keeping the girl close. When Katherine nods, Jane is sure to put a blanket over the girl’s shoulders, smiling when Kat smiles. “I’m sure you’re tired after all those rides.”

“Mhmm,” Katherine says. “Thanks for coming onto the Saw one, by the way.”

Jane chuckles. “It was a lot of fun, but honestly rides aren’t exactly my cup of tea.” She smoothes out Katherine’s hair as they start to get moving. The low drone of the radio and Jane’s heartbeat are already doing their jobs, slowly lulling the youngest queen into a nice, quiet rest.

“You’re the best,” Katherine mumbles. “Thank you.”

“I love you, Kit,” Jane says quietly.

Katherine smiles, taking in the day. It was exciting, sure, but what really made it special was being able to hang out with her family all day. She couldn’t imagine anyone else she’d rather spend the day with.

“I love you too, mum.”

This was a request from my Wattpad and this is also a cute little platonic fic in honor of Brian’s birthday (since in this fic I kinda lean towards Brian here in favorite band member) now this one’s a little different because here and as warning we’ve got you being the assistant for Paul Prenter (UGGGGHHHH!!! DX) but have no fear, the crazy queenies will save you from his tyranny! And you shall find out soon.

So besides the warning for Prenter, there’s fluff, swearing, situation regarding migraines.

I was going through some files trying to get everything that Paul told me to organize properly and have ready for Mr. Reid while they all went over to meet with Ray Foster, the record producer for the band.  God even though he’s my ‘boss’ I wish that he would do his own work instead of handing it down to me, especially when I hear Mr. Reid telling him to do this certain task but the second he goes away, he just places the work right on my desk just before I would clock out sometimes.

I paused my work and rubbed my face as I groaned tiredly before placing my chin on top of my hands as my elbows were leaned up against my desk.  Suddenly I felt hands cover my eyes and I let out a small squeak but before I could fight back, a voice said in my ear.

“No, no, no darling no peeking you cheeky thing.”

“Freddie what are you doing?”

“You ask so many questions darling.” I waited for a moment before saying,

“Can I look now?”

“Hold on, not yet.”

“Now can I look?”

“Ever the impatient teenager, thinks work is better than being spoiled. Especially by us, wouldn’t you agree Deacy?” I heard Roger’s voice say.

“Yes indeed. She works much too hard.”

“Alright Fred uncover her eyes, it’s ready.” Brian’s voice spoke up and the second Freddie’s hands uncovered my eyes, I saw before me a tray of food and a cup of my favorite flavor of tea.

“Aww you guys.” I said as I twirled around in my chair and turned to face them.

“You just work so hard love and we know you probably didn’t have time for lunch. So after the meeting with Foster, we slipped past Reid and Prenter and got you your favorite.” Brian explained.

“Ohhh you guys do too much for me. I should be doing stuff like this for you.”

“You do too much of that already. Time we did something for you for a change. Get your mind off of work for once.” Roger said as he playfully ruffled my hair. I shoved his hand away from my head and tried to readjust my hair before I reached for the fried rice first and asked them.

“So, how did the meeting go?” I know I shouldn’t be asking questions like these but throughout these past 8 months since I got this second job to get some extra money for—personal reasons (please don’t ask), the boys of Queen had really become like a second family to me.

Even though they’re bigshot rockstars who most people would believe wouldn’t care much about people who help them behind the scenes, the lads had been nothing but supportive of me.  As a young 15 year old assistant, this whole lifestyle can be intimidating but thanks to John Deacon or as I had the privilege of referring him by his nickname “Deacy”, he’s helped me out by pulling me aside whenever the scene got too hectic especially for someone my age.

If you had to ask me who I’d pick as a favorite it’s really hard to choose but if I really had to and I hope and pray the guys never hear about this but I would have to say it’d be Brian May.  Not because of his rockstar abilities or just due to the fact that he’s the guitarist of this famed group.  No I’m talking about the Brian May fascinator of the stars and the rights of animals.

See once I get to University I’ve always had an interest in becoming a veterinarian but not just for domestic pets, but exotic animals as well.  When I was just 9 years old I saw a family of hedgehogs nesting in my mum’s garden and for weeks on end I helped fed them and made sure the family dog Yaz never went near the nest as to not harm or scare the mama hedgehog and her babies away.  And when Brian first heard about my dream, he was so proud of me that he even gave me an offer.

He vowed that one day if he ever got the chance to run his own little ‘animal safe house’ I would be his personal veterinarian for all sick, injured or orphaned animals he would take in.  We began to bond over our love for the animals and we both shared that the laws of Britain should change on animal rights.  It’s cruel and inhumane that badger baiting is still performed here in the UK even though its illegal. One day Bri and I hope to change that, to make sure that all people that still do stuff like that is truly put to justice no matter what animal they harm.  

Now I won’t say that I either do or do not like it; but in secret when it’s just us two, he sometimes likes to call me his little ‘fox kit’ because he always compared my cuteness to a baby fox kit.

And of course there’s Roger and Freddie.  The two famed troublemakers as I like to call them.  But even with their high energy and true rock and roll spirits, they like to have their quiet moments.  Like I’ve cat-sit for Freddie before and got to go over to his flat to meet them (all of them) as well as his lovely lady Mary Austin.  While Roger and I like to have some talks about cars and boats.

I knew a thing or two about cars thanks to my uncle who owns a mechanic shop in downtown London.  He’s taught me a thing or two about fixing engines, changing a tire so I’m not like most women who just seem to want to sit there in the middle of nowhere in their short jean pants that barely cover their buts and crop-tops waiting for someone to come to their rescue.  Hell I even once got to change one of the tour buses tires when Deacy or any other of the roadies couldn’t seem to get it.

And of course when it comes to fashion, these two try to take me with them when it came to their shopping trips and try to get me in the most outlandish and insane clothes that even I thought were ridiculous.  But I enjoyed spending time with them, plus seeing them make fools of themselves is always a good way for some juicy blackmail should the time ever arise.

“Well we’ve got the approval for the new record.” Deacy said.

“Really? That’s amazing. Congrats guys!”

“Yes. However there is a catch.” Brian added.

“What is it?” I asked worriedly.

“Unlike any other album, they’re sending us out of London. Actually far from any distractions. We’re going to a recording studio called what—Stone farm?” Roger said.

“Rockfield farm studio Roger dear.” Freddie pipped in.  Oh wow.

Now that is a long away from here, actually it’s out of England far.  I’m told that studio is located in the intense farm country of Wales.  Pure agriculture and not rural location.

“You guys have any idea how long you’ll be gone for?” I asked.

“Foster’s giving us a nine week deadline.” Brian answered.

“Oh.”

“Well there’s no need to be sad darling. You’ll be coming with us.” Freddie said as he lightly patted my shoulder.

“What?”

“Oh come on (y/n). Did you really think we’d leave you behind for nine weeks. We’d go mad without you around.” Roger said.

“Honestly I think we’ll try to murder each other without you there to keep us in check.” Deacy answered bluntly.

“But—but I….guys I’m honored you’d think I should go with you to this recording studio but unfortunately Paul’s my boss and I don’t go anywhere unless he tells me it’s okay.”

“Oh no need for that darling. I gave him a full rundown on why you should come along with us and he gladly accepted the reasons.” Freddie said.

Honestly Fred I know why he said he’d take me and it wasn’t because of your reasons. Yes I am well aware of how my boss looks at the frontman of Queen and let me tell you I’m not saying this as ‘unnatural’ for a man to love another man.  I just worry for Freddie’s safety.  

I knew Paul was no good, I don’t even see why he would even advert for an assistant when he hardly gives me the time of day and belittles me every day.

“Okay well there’s also my mum. You….you know how conservative I’ve told you all she is. I doubt she’d let someone my age who with a bunch of guys twice my age to Wales all on her own.”

“We can assure her that no harm shall come to her beloved daughter. Even if we have to chain ourselves to her car in order to prove our point.” Roger said.

“Please say you’ll come with us darling. Please?” Freddie said as he placed his hand on top of my shoulder, looking at me with pleading eyes even through his shades. I set my rice down and said.

“I don’t know guys……”

“Well we know there’s one surefire way to get you to say yes darling.” Oh bugger not again.

I felt both John and Roger’s hands grip both my wrists pulling me out of my seat and I was soon sandwiches between them.  Their arms imprisoning me between them making sure that I wouldn’t get out.

“Still don’t want to change your mind darling? You’ve already gotten the approval might as well take it.” Said Fred.

“I—I—”

“Still not wanting to go I see? Well Roger, Deacy time to step it up my darlings.”

“Awww no not the bunny nose! Deacy please it’s—oh not the double bunny nose!” The famed Queen sandwich plus bunny nose tactic.  Whenever the boys really wanted me to join in on something but I’d try to get out of it, no matter which combo they did.  

Two members would sandwich me in their arms while on either cheek I would feel their noses twitch like a bunny giving me bunny kisses, but if I still refused then I would get passed on to the next combo of whomever was left.

“Ohh please I can’t take it! It’s too cute when I get you both doing it!”

“Then say you’ll come or you’ll get it from Brian and I.”

“Okay! Okay I’ll come, I’ll come.” They all cheered and of course Roger and Deacy began kissing me all over my face and head as Brian and Freddie now came in to complete a royal Queen group hug as they liked to call it with me at the center. “When do we leave?”

“First thing tomorrow morning.”  Well hopefully I can convince my mum to let me go.

With the help of Brian and Deacy (since they were the most responsible of the band, and at this point Deacy was about to become a father at this point since his wife and soulmate Veronica was pregnant so hearing a future parent talk with a current parent seemed a bit easier to understand. Instead of four adult rockstars asking a teen girl to come along with them for her job) my mum allowed me to go.

I spent the next few hours packing and ended up getting about 5 hours of sleep since the cab I would be taking was coming around 6am to pick me up.  My mum kissed me goodbye the next morning and made me promise to call her every single day and night when I got up and before I went to bed.

Finally after a long 3hr. drive we finally arrived.  And let me tell you Rockfield farm definitely lived up to its name.  As I was helping with the unpacking of the band’s stuff Roger was the first one out of the car wearing his fur coat and shades as he said.

“Recording studio?”

“Well the idea was to get away from all distractions.” Paul answered as he held two suitcases in hand.  I grabbed one of the suitcases but as I walked around the car, I slipped on some mud and nearly fell to the ground had it not been for Freddie managing to catch me in time.

“Thanks Fred.”

“No need for thank yous darling. Need any help?”

“No, no I’ve got it.”

“(Y/n) I ain’t paying you to stand around and sell yourself out. Take that suitcase into the studio over there while I show the lads their rooms.” Paul snapped. Dude you hardly pay me at all.

“Yes Mr. Prenter.” I said as I headed in the opposite direction and set the heavy suitcase down.  For the next couple of hours I was helping unload the guys’ guitars, amps, and drumkit into the recording building.  

And of course Paul insisted that since I would figure out cars and talk about stuff that no other girls talk about then I’d have no problem unloading everything, so I was left alone unloading everything without the guys’ knowledge. Paul also had me set up Roger’s kit and have Brian’s guitars all set up and ready for him when it came time to record tomorrow.

By the time everything was set up and I was finally able to leave the studio I turned to see that the sun was just setting.  I walked in to see everyone gathered at the dinner table just finishing up their supper.

“Oh there you are love, we were wondering what was keeping you.” Paul made sure to keep his eyes locked right at me.  Because he had threatened me once that if I ever told the guys of how ‘overworked’ he was giving me, he’d fire me and make sure that I would never be admitted into another Queen concert again.

“Just—thought I’d look outside at the marvelous view we’ve got. I know you guys are gonna have a lot of time to write here.” I said.

“I will admit it defiantly provides no distractions.” Brian said.

“Well I’m gonna give Veronica a call and then probably head to bed.”

“Yeah I think I’ll hit the sack myself.” Roger agreed.

“True my darlings, we’ll take an early start tomorrow.” Freddie said.  With that the guys all decided to turn in for the night.

“(Y/n).” I turned to see Brian still at the table with a plate of fresh food. “Managed to save you a plate.”

“Brian you are my angel, thank you.” I said as I sat down.

“Next time don’t get too lost staring out into the fields, okay. Even you must eat my little fox kit.” I groaned at the nickname and playfully slapped his arm as he laughed softly. “Now eat and don’t stay up too late. Goodnight love.”

“Night Bri.” I said as he kissed the top of my head before heading towards his room. “Oh hang on, we weren’t clearly told. Where’s your room going to be at?” Actually I have no idea. Paul never mentioned a room for me.

“I’ll—I’ll talk to Paul after I talk to my mum. Don’t worry Bri I’m sure my room’s here somewhere.” He looked at me skeptically and said.

“Well just so you know in case he has you sleeping on that dirty old couch, you can always come up to my room. It’s the first door on the right. It doesn’t matter what time you come in, just wake me up and I’ll make room for you, okay?”

“Okay. Thanks Bri. Goodnight.”

“G’night love. Sweet dreams.”

“Sweet dreams.” He then proceeded up the stairs.  After I finished up my dinner, Paul soon came in from the bathroom and I asked him.

“Excuse me, Mr. Prenter.” God I hated calling him that. “Where will I be sleeping at while I’m here?”

“Oh sorry (y/n), but I’m afraid all the rooms have been reserved by the band, Rory and myself.”

“So there’s—no more rooms?”

“Afraid not. But there’s always the couch. Unless you don’t think you can handle staying here, you can always go back to your mum’s place and I’ll tell the lads you were homesick and couldn’t handle being away from your sick mum for too long.” God I really hated it when he used my mum against me.

“The couch will be fine. Goodnight Mr. Prenter.”

“Goodnight lass, and be sure to have breakfast up and cooked by the time we all wake up. As part of the agreement you’ll be making all the meals from now on during our stay here.”

“Very well sir.” I stated.  Paul sneered a grin before heading upstairs to his room.  I put my dish away and headed to the living room to see my suitcase there on the old, soiled (probably mold or cat piss), torn apart, dusty red couch. It hardly looked like it would fit me and as I lay down on it, it already felt lumpy and I swore something was poking me in the back.

Heading into the bathroom I changed into my pajamas but as I stepped out, it was freezing cold.  God I guess summers out here in Wales just get cold.  I raced towards the couch and tried my best to cover myself up with the blanket but it was so think layered and holes that I was barely able to keep warm.

This was gonna be a long night.

By the time it was morning, I was shivering and my neck and back were in pure agony.

“I thought I said to have breakfast ready before I awoke?” I groaned and peered an eye open to see Paul standing over me.

“You said—to have it by the time the guys woke up.”

“And by that I meant Roy and myself. There are two hungry men waiting for their breakfast. Now get off your arse and movie it lassie.” I slowly stood up and felt my head pounding as I tried to ease up the tension in my muscles.

“Can I at least call my mum? I forgot to do that last night.”

“I’m not paying you to gossip band secrets to your mum. Now go and get breakfast ready or I’ll have a cab come and get you for being so incompetent.” He threatened me. I looked at him and he glared down at me with those icy, soulless eyes of his.

“Very well Mr. Prenter. What would you all like to have for breakfast?” He grinned down at me knowing that he had won the battle.

When the guys came down, I was just getting the last bit of breakfast ready and when Deacy saw me he asked me.

“Poppet, are you alright? You look exhausted.” Tell me about it. I just kept tossing and turning on the couch since it was so uncomfortable.  The cold wind seeping through the old wood texture of the house made it almost impossible for me to sleep since I feared of getting pneumonia.

“Just…..just kept worrying about my mum. That’s all.”

“I’m sure she’s fine darling. You can give her a call later after breakfast. So my beautiful chief what have we got cooking this morning?” Freddie asked as he wrapped his arm around me.

Which I knew Paul would give me hell about it later.

For the next week and a half it was the same routine.  I hardly got any sleep, Paul would drag me about all day making sure everything in the studio was set up and he was smart to keep me away from the guys or forced me to put on more makeup so that my eyes wouldn’t appear as dark and baggy as they were.

But one morning, my head was pounding so hard and my vision was blurry.  At first I thought it was just because I was still sleepy and had unshed tears but when Paul’s voice sounded like nails on a chalkboard and that chalkboard was plugged to an amp increasing the sound and the piercing light from the sun as well as the lights in the house just made it painful to even look up, I knew it had to be a migraine.

Of course Paul didn’t care and had me immediately go out into the studio building and try to get everything set up for the boys to record.  But since the sun was out today it gave the room an intense brightness than usual.  I could barely keep my eyes open and my head was pounding like how Roger bangs his drums, maybe even harder than that.

As I was setting up, I just felt this bolt of agonizing pain strike my head and I tried to keep my balance but I ended up falling against the wall.  My ears ringing and tears falling down my face.

“Slacking off once again I see.”

“Please Mr. Prenter can you not talk so loud? My head really, really hurts.”

“It’s just an excuse of yours to getting out of work. I’m tired of all these excuses you’ve been giving out. Just like every woman crying out for attention. Now do your job less you want to be fired!” I groaned and held my hands to my ears to try and block out any sound as my head kept pounding and my ears were ringing.

Through my blurred vision I saw three figures standing in front of me while I felt a fourth figure wrap their arms around me.

“Shhh, it’s okay love. It’s okay. Just lean back into me.” Oh Rog. “That’s it. You can fall into me love, I’ve got you. I’ve got you.” I whimpered in agony as I fell against him after feeling a stronger and more painful pounding in my head. Even with putting all my weight against him, he didn’t flinch once.  “That’s it, that’s it just fall into me lovie, I’ve got you.” He whispered.

Oh if there’s one good thing about Roger that I also love it’s his soft voice.  No one would know unless they talk with Roger Taylor that his voice is actually really soft spoken, which is shocking because when people hear him sing, it’s either his high falsetto or this gravely, raspy growl.

“Okay love, I’m going to slowly pick you up, okay? I promise I’ll be as gentle as I can.” I whimpered telling him I understood what he was saying. “Alright love, ready? One….two….three. Oh I know, I know love I’m sorry shhh shshshsh.” I then felt something cover my head.  It felt like an overcoat and I heard Deacy’s voice whisper.

“Let’s get her to my room. Hardly any sunlight gets in and it’s probably the quietest bed in that house probably.” Together the two of them took me out of the recording studio.  Roger kept me close to him, telling me to close my eyes before we stepped a foot outside while Deacy handled every door that came in our path to make sure that when they closed, they wouldn’t slam behind Roger and cause my migraine suffering to get any worse. “Shoes off though, there’s not any carpet for these stairs.”

Deacy took his off first and he then said.

“Here, let me take her down so that we can get her on a more comfortable surface and out of this light.” I felt Roger gently try to transition me into Deacy’s arms now and I couldn’t help but whimper as I felt myself being jostled once more. “Shhh, I know poppet, I know I’m sorry. Just hold out for a bit longer. You’re almost there.” Deacy whispered to me as I felt myself being taken down the stairs.

I groaned with every wood creak but Deacy apologized with every step until finally the nightmare was over and I was gently being set down on the bed.

“There we are love, you can open your eyes now. Slowly.” Slowly I opened my eyes and I saw the blurry figures of both Roger and Deacy.

“There she is. Is it helping at all?” asked Roger.

“I still hurts.” I whimpered out.

“Aww we know love.” I felt his calloused fingers brush away the strands of hair from my face.

“Do you need anything poppet? Medicine? Water?”

“All of the above.” I groaned.

“Okay, Rog you stay with her. Make sure she doesn’t move around too much. I’ll go get the stuff.” I felt Deacy kiss my forehead and I saw him go up the stairs.

The hair stroking and gentle scalp massage was now Roger’s job and I groaned out as I tried to adjust myself.

“No, no, no don’t move love. And try to relax your face. Facial tension only causes the migraines to get worse.”

“I thought you were a dentist?” I couldn’t help but tease.

“I was never a dentist love. I switched my major to biology. Got bored with dentistry.” He said as he bopped my nose.  Soon enough we heard the sound of footsteps coming down as quietly as possible but along with whom we suspected to be Deacy, we also saw Brian and Freddie coming down the stairs.

“Hey there’s our girl. How are you feeling now love?” Freddie asked softly.

“My head still hurts but at least the light’s gone.” I said.

“Well lucky for you I’ve found some pills to help with that.” Deacy answered as he came up to me and handed me the pills first.  I popped them into my mouth as I was now being given my glass of water and I took a sip before finally swallowing the pills as well as the water.

“Ohh god my head feels like it’s gonna explode.”

“Just give it some time my dear.” Freddie soothed as he sat down beside my feet. All was silent for a moment till Roger soon spoke up.

“(Y/n), why didn’t you tell us Prenter was treating you to that degree?” I looked down shamefully but before I could answer Brian spoke up.

“I think that’s something that can be spoken about later. Right now she shouldn’t talk or even be thinking right now. Let’s leave her to recover for the rest of the day.”

“But—what about…..”

“A but-but-but. No buts about it love.” He insisted softly as he lay close beside me stroking my hair softly.  “You lads go on ahead, I’ll take the first watch for our girl.”

“Get well soon darling.” Freddie said gently with a pat to my knee.  Both Rog and Deacy patted my shoulder or hand and the three of them quietly walked up the stairs as best as they could.  Once they were gone, I closed my eyes and moaned tiredly.

“Are the pills helping at all?” he asked me softly as I felt him still stroking my head.

“A bit. I just feel bad about stealing Deacy’s bed.”

“He understands. He wouldn’t have offered for you to take his room if he didn’t.”

“You sure?”

“Yes, now no more talking little fox kit. Time to sleep. That’s what you need.” I moaned tiredly and shut my eyes and for the first time in over a week I was able to sleep peacefully.

When I woke up, I smelt eggs and bacon all the way from downstairs.  I opened my eyes to feel that my migraine was finally gone but I did feel a bit dizzy and woozy.  I slowly got up and wobbled for a moment before getting the strength and mobility to walk up the stairs.

Once I reached the top and saw the sun shining through the house, my head wasn’t pounding as much as it was before and the light didn’t hurt as much.  I headed towards the kitchen and that’s where I saw the guys sitting down eating breakfast.  Deacy was the first to spot me.

“Well look whose finally up.” The other three members turned toward me and they all greeted me with a soft and warm good morning.

“Mornin guys.” I said as I walked toward them.

“How you feeling love?” asked Roger.

“Better than what I was.”

“Here, drink some water. We need to keep you hydrated.” Said Brian as he held out a glass filled with water.  I softly gave him a thanks and took a sip.

“How long was I out?” I questioned.

“Ohh darling, you were out for three days.” Freddie stated.  My heart dropped, I felt lightheaded and I swore if this were a cartoon, my eyes would be popping out of my sockets right now probably inflating bigger than my body.

“What?” oh my god I feel like I’m about to pass out, puke and scream all at the same time. “What? Three—three days. Tell me your joking someone please tell me Fred’s joking.”

“As much as I love a good joke I’m afraid he isn’t love. You’ve really been asleep for three days.” Roger said.

“Here darling, come sit and eat first. Then we’ll explain everything. Plus we’ve got some questions that need to be answered on your part.” Fred added to Roger’s statement.  I walked over toward them and Deacy scooted a chair out and had me sit there which lay between where he and Brian were sitting.  Bri set down my breakfast and my stomach let out a loud growl.

And of course the guys took every advantage to softly laugh at me and I simply flipped them off before digging into my meal.  Oh lord this tasted like heaven! As I ate, Deacy spoke up first.

“Love, why didn’t you ever tell us how hard Paul was making you work?” I paused eating my sausage and swallowed it down before I said.

“You guys don’t understand how men treat women in the music business. Especially if they’re just assistants. I—I wanted to prove to Paul that whatever he gave me I could do it. He’s….he’s always belittled me and had my mum as an excuse to fire me telling me that if I couldn’t handle it, then I could forget the extra money for her.”

“You could’ve come to us. We’d would’ve helped you.” Said Roger as he rubbed my back with his hand.

“But I don’t want to take you guys hard-earned money.”

“No not that. I mean we would’ve helped you out with your work, especially here. We could’ve set up our own equipment, you didn’t have to do all that.”

“He was working you too hard. Barely giving you a break. You know if you had told us the extent he was forcing on you, we would’ve helped you, right?” Brian said as he tucked a strand of hair behind my ear.  I looked down shamefully fiddling with the remaining bits of my eggs and said shamefully.

“I’m sorry guys. I just—thought I could handle it.”

“You’re a hard worker poppet, but you also need to realize you’re still a kid. You don’t need to work till you drop, no one your age should experience things like migraines until you reach college.” Deacy said.

“I’m not a kid Deacy.”

“Ohh come off it, you may be a teenager but you’ll always be a kid to us.” Roger teased as he playfully poked my cheek making me whine out and slap away his hand. It was then I finally noticed that Paul had yet to show his face.

“Uhh guys, where is Paul?”

“He’s out darling. I fired him.” Freddie spoke.

“What? But—but then that means….Fred if he’s fired then I’m fired! Why would you—”

“Darling relax. Everything’s going to be okay.” He tried to assure me but I was frantic as I yelled back.

“How!? You do realize he was my boss! Sure I never liked him hell I hated the bastard but if he’s fired then I have no job!”

“Love, relax. If you’d let us explain you’d know that you’re no longer a manager’s assistant.” Brian spoke up as he cupped my face in his hands.

“What now?”

“We made some called to Reid and after explaining the grueling amount of work and harm Paul was causing you, while he’s fired. You’re now moving up the ranks.”

“Huh?”

“From now on darling you will be our day to day manager. Keeping an eye on us and making sure we don’t kill each other. Hell you’ll be remembered as the youngest manager in history.” Deacy said as he gently nudged his shoulder against mine.

I looked at them all and they were all looking at me with a unanimous look that they all agreed to this and had no objections to me being their new day to day manager.

“But….but guys you do realize I have school in the autumn and in the spring, right. How can I possible be your manager when I’m not even out of high school yet?”

“That’s where we’ve bent the rule with Reid.” Roger explained.

“Until your graduation we’ve agreed to settle for summer tours so that you can be there for us day to day to check in on us, while when you have school we’ll perform at concert venues and do recordings for our albums. Also when the school year starts back up, you’ll come to the studio every day after school for 5 hours a day just to make sure we’re on schedule.”

“And since we’ve also figured out that Paul had screwed around with your payment contract, Miami is in charge of your payroll. But since you are still a minor about to take on such a task, he’s currently trying to convince your mum and nana to let you have this better job offer. So that way they will also be safely financed and better informed on your performance as a manager.” Deacy stated.

“He’ll make them see reason darling. This is a better opportunity for you to get a better understanding of management. Especially if you wish to one day open up that animal rehab that you’ve been dreaming of so much.” I looked at each of them and just couldn’t believe the extent they were all going to help me out.

“Ohh you guys. This—I can’t believe you would do this for me.”

“You deserve it love, you’re just as much a part of this family as the four of us are. You’ve looked after us long enough, time for us to look after you, my little fox kit.” Brian said as he gently stroke his thumbs across my cheeks gingerly.

“Thanks you guys, I love you.”

“We love you too (y/n) dear. Now I decree there is one remedy we have yet to give you and now it is the proper time for you to receive.” Freddie proclaimed as he got me up out of my chair.

“And what would that be?” I asked.  It was then I saw all of them looking at each other with sparks of mischief in their eyes. The air grew tense as they all grinned at each other and either nodded or winked at one another before looking down at me.

“OTTER QUEEN CUDDLE!!”

“Wha? AHH Hey! Oh c’mon you guys. Ahh Rog, Deacy don’t tickle me!” I exclaimed as I was now put in the middle of a Queen group hug.  But ever since telling them and letting them know how I wanted to help animals, they dubbed this group hug specifically an ‘otter queen cuddle’ since I had shared with them that otters love to stay in groups and hold each other close so that they won’t separate from their families or mates.

Along with being in the middle of the otter cuddle, I felt their noses nuzzle all over my face and even one by one each of them would give me an Eskimo kiss, as well as quick pecks.  Each of them talking about how much they loved me, how they would always be there to take care of me, even calling me animal nicknames since they clearly must’ve heard Brian call me his ‘fox kit’.  So now according to the Freddie I am his ‘little kitten’, Deacy refers to me as ‘chipmunk’ and Roger calls me his ‘hummingbird’.

“You guys are impossible, you know that?” I teased.

“But you love us, don’t you hummingbird?” Roger said as he pecked my nose.

“Yeah, and I wouldn’t have you guys any other way.” I admitted as I cuddled deeper into their embrace and they all squeezed around me tighter like four little otters.

NB: I watched this via the 2019 Second Sight UK Blu-Ray release and the picture is really fantastic (technical term there). So, if you were wondering, now you know; this is the copy to own.

The House That Dripped Blood is a British 1970s anthology horror movie from Amicus, and I make no bones about the fact that I am totally partial to that jam, pal. I grew up watching these movies, from a ridiculously unsuitable age, on Friday and Saturday nights with my mum while dad was down the pub. Their ridiculous delights are fused into my brain by the flame of nostalgia, more thoroughly even than those of ‘70s Jonah Hex comics. (And ‘70s Jonah Hex comics are pretty fused in there too. Tony DeZuniga; he da boy!). You came to the wrong place for impartiality, basically. The House That Dripped Blood is horrortastic.

Putting the lie to the spectacularly enticing title there is no actual blood in The House That Dripped Blood, but there is definitely a house. And it’s around this house that the four fear inducing stories revolve. But every proper portmanteau demands a framing device and so the movie starts with the arrival of uppity Inspector Holloway (John Bennett) who has been dispatched by Scotland Yard to investigate the disappearance of horror movie star Paul Henderson (Jon Pertwee) from The House That Dripped Blood. Obviously the house is never referred to as “The House That Dripped Blood” as that would put prospective tenants off; bit of a real estate tip there for you.

Unlike most police investigations, Bennett’s takes the form of people telling him far-fetched stories about the previous occupants as though this might give him a clue as to Henderson’s fate. It’s an interesting approach to policework. Luckily, Bennett, a copper singularly lacking in ratiocination, at no point even begins to wonder how exactly the people telling him the stories know what happened, since most of the people who could have told them end up dead or insane. The answer would be that these are a bunch of punchy shorts scripted by pulp wonder Robert Bloch and the house is just a big old McGuffin to hang them off. And learning that might be a bit too meta for a common movie plod to handle.

First up is Method for Murder wherein debonair horror author Charles Hillyer (Denholm Elliot) rents the house to get some peace in which to write another of his (apparently terrible) potboilers. Unnervingly Hillyer’s new opus concerning Dominic, a strangler with a bowl haircut and British Teeth©™®, starts to bleed into his reality, and the possibility that he may be losing his mind may not be the worst option on offer. Denholm Elliot (1922 – 1992) was never a star, but he was a fantastic actor all round; his particular forte was a kind of nervy self-assurance constantly on the cusp of crumbling into wild-eyed desperation. The kind of thing it takes a lengthy, poorly constructed sentence to describe in English but in German is probably encompassed by a single word that sounds like someone cheerfully stamping on chicken bones. Elliot’s very good at it, whatever it is, and he gets plenty of chance to demonstrate it here, as Bloch’s plotting turns the screws until he pops. Everyone else is very good, particularly Robert Lang as Dr. Andrews, who is the perfect oily 1970s personification of a psychiatrist. And it would be remiss of me to omit to mention Denholm Elliot’s superb salmon pink shirt. Personally, I find fashion is one of the finest characters in British ‘70s horror movies, and in The House That Dripped Blood fashion is on fine form.

As is soon apparent in Waxworks when Philip Grayson (the always marvellous Peter Cushing) sports a spellbindingly classy cravat and jacket affair. His gobstopper red smoking jacket is also quite special, but it’s the cravat ensemble which carries him through most of the episode and takes the trophy. This eerie creepster is about a retired financier who rents the house to brood while listening to records and looking at a photo of a woman from his past. When he isn’t posing by the weir in a melancholy way Philip walks into town where there are actual shops (this is before the Internet and 10 years of Tory government had reduced the English high street to charity shops, boarded up windows and Gregg’s The Bakers) and finds the world’s most morbid waxworks. Haunted by the display of Salome (who is supposed to look like the lady from his past; you have to take this on trust since the waxwork isn’t exactly life-like) Philip is visited by his old chum Neville (the ever forthright Joss Ackland), who has a penchant for neck scarves that resemble an acid trip made silk. Both men have the woman in common but prefer to elliptically skirt around the troublesome issue and pretend it doesn’t matter anymore; Bloch knows nobody does emotional cowardice quite like the English. Soon Neville meets Salome too and the blokes race each other to the horrific finish. Joss Ackland is great, obviously, but it’s worth noting that, as ever, Cushing puts in a performance far more moving and tragic than the material deserves, and so makes it sting all the more. Fans of ‘70s unconscious misogyny might risk getting all turgid since Waxworks is all about a woman who ruins men’s lives but doesn’t actually feature a real woman. Ultimately though such people will have to go home empty handed as it’s clearly the men doing it to themselves and blaming it on a woman, which is a pretty clever bait and switch by Bloch.

Bloch’s quietly understated intelligence is even better demonstrated by Sweets to the Sweet which looks like it’s about witchcraft but is actually about the damage a lack of love can do to a child. Widower John Reid (Christopher Lee) moves into the house so he can commute to the city and do his business in whatnot and whathaveyou and have his child Jane (Chloe Franks) home-schooled in a controlled environment. Reid is all about control and Christopher Lee is ideally suited to the role, bringing all his not inconsiderable clipped prissiness to bear without totally eliminating Reid’s humanity. Reid loves Jane but he also fears her. But why? (why does he fear her, not why does he love her; c’mon, people, work with me here). It’s a conundrum Jane’s newly appointed teacher Ann Norton (Nyree Dawn Porter) unwisely seeks to solve. Plenty in this one to chew on viz a viz kids, parental responsibility and the need to keep a close eye on candles and razor shavings. Probably enough for a dissertation in fact, but, putting the chalk and elbow patches to one side, it is mostly about witchcraft because that’s spooky fun; no one wants to watch an unvarnished 20 minute segment on the emotional abuse of a child in a horror movie. That’s what Home Alone (1990) is for.

Seeking to send the audience out into the ‘70s night to catch the last bus on a bit of a high, the final terror tale, The Cloak, spoofs about in an enjoyably goofy fashion. Prima-donna horror star Paul Henderson (Jon Pertwee) moves into the house to be near the filming of his new (apparently terrible; probably based on a script by Charles Hillyer) movie. Being a great believer in authenticity and disappointed by the cloak provided by the doddering wardrobe mistress,  Henderson sources a suitably eerie item of attire from Theo von Hartmann (Geoffrey Bayldon), a ridiculously freaky tat shop owner with a suspiciously Teutonic moniker. When wearing the cloak   Henderson’s portrayal of a vampire becomes a little bit too authentic for comfort and he learns a steep lesson in the Hollywood food chain from his comically pneumatic co-star Carla Lynde (Ingrid Pitt). It’s slight stuff but pretty funny with everyone camping it up like a cub scout sleep out will be arriving imminently (camping; tents; scouts; c’mon, folks). I vaguely recall reading that Pertwee claimed the whole movie was supposed to be in this mirthful mode, and that he based his character on co-star Christopher Lee, but didn’t tell Lee (obviously). If I ever get the time to wade through the multitude of extras on the Blu-ray maybe I’ll find confirmation. As it is, watching the movie was pleasure enough for now. But like I said I’m practically marinated in this stuff. Nevertheless I persist in the belief that people who haven’t been knocking about for half a century would still find something to enjoy in The House That Dripped Blood; even if it’s just that cracking picture quality.

You felt intense heat around you as your eyes fluttered open and you realised you were led on Tom’s chest, his arm tight around your waist and Harrison’s body hanging off the other beanbag. You smiled at how at home you felt, you were about to close your eyes again but suddenly realised this shouldn’t be happening. You shouldn’t be snuggling into Tom’s chest and you shouldn’t be happy about it. You were meant to go back up to Liam, but you never did. You could hear your mum and Charlotte upstairs in the living room watching television, you needed to get up before Liam came down and saw the way you were led. It was suggestive and the last thing you needed was Liam accusing you of things.

Gently moving from Tom’s chest, you sat up brushing your hands through your hair; you were glad you decided to change into sweat pants before sleeping because keeping the denim skirt on would have been problematic. Tom stirred in his sleep and squeezed his eyes shut stretching out and eventually kicking Harrison causing him to fall to the floor causing a loud thud making you laugh.

“You good Haz?” You asked still laughing but he only groaned making you laugh more. Tom was smiling at your angelic laughter and smiling face as you scooted off the beanbag, an automatic coldness hitting his side where you once were. He watched as you stood stretching, he admired the way your body moved and how perfect your curves were. No, he had to stop thinking like this. As much as he wanted you to be his, you were happy with Liam and he wouldn’t be the one to ruin that. The last thing he wanted to do was hurt you and saying how he felt would because it would put you in a terrible situation. You said something about going to get breakfast and you’d see them in a bit before you disappeared up the stairs, Tom’s eyes following you, but he was soon smacked in the head with a pillow.

“She’s engaged mate, stop staring” Harrison spoke as he stood stretching copying his sister’s movements, “And as much as we don’t want to like him, we need to at least try for her. She deserves someone who makes her happy and if it’s this guy than we need to support that”

“There is something off about him Haz, I don’t know what it is” Harrison rolled his eyes.

“You’re only saying that because you’re not with her. I don’t know what happened between you two before she left but whatever it was, it’s over. She is happy now and if you ruin that for her I will personally break your nose and then I’ll let Y/N on you. I’m sorry mate, I know how much you liked her but you’re too late” Harrison left up the stairs leaving Tom by himself. It hurt him to hear those words come from Harrison who had wanted the two of you to get together but he was also speaking the truth.

Tom knew the moment you walked out the door to University he had missed his chance; what man wouldn’t want you? You were stunningly beautiful. You had a personality that everyone loved, you were perfect. Maybe that was why he never tried to pursue you, because you deserved someone incredible, someone who was willing to do anything for you, and Tom would admit two years ago he wouldn’t have but seeing you now has made him rethink and he wants you badly. You would just never now. He groaned into his hands before walking up the stairs to the kitchen. You were leaning on Liam whilst talking to Charlotte and holding a mug full of tea, something Tom had remembered you loved very much.

“Morning Tom” Charlotte spoke smiling at him, “Mum told me to tell you that Nikki wants you back by three” Tom saw Liam smile slightly at these words and he rolled his eyes. He thanked Charlotte before walking to Harrison’s room.

“Char are we still on for tomorrow?” You asked sipping your drink as she put her empty bowl in the sink.

“Yep, just me and you?”

“Yes, just like old times. Be ready by nine please, I need to get us to them by eleven and I know how you faff around” Charlotte opened her mouth to object but you raised an eyebrow and she shut in defeat. Laughing she rolled her eyes and she left leaving you and Liam by yourself. He spun you around letting you rest against the island, one arm either side of you, your tea safely placed down.

“So, what am I supposed to do tomorrow when you’re getting all girly?” You smiled kissing his cheek.

“You are going on a day out with Harrison, Tom, Harry and Sam” He raised an eyebrow making you chuckle, “Harrison is my brother and Tom, Harry and Sam are basically family. They are great, they are going to give you a chance so give them one ok?” He sighed defeated before kissing your lips softly, your arms looping around his neck as he deepened the kiss. Moments like this between the two of you made you the happiest. Moments when you were just with each other and didn’t have a care in the world. Liam pulled back allowing you both to breathe, you pouted slightly not wanting it to end.

“I’m doing this for you babe, I’ll try to get on with them ok? We are just very different”

“You promise?” You asked looking into his eyes. He kissed your lips again before pulling away with a small smile painted on his lips.

“I promise”

Sometime later, you were in the living room with Charlotte, Harrison and Tom dancing around to the music channel. In other words, you were all very bored yet energetic which wasn’t always best since you were a bunch of nutcases anyway. You laughed watching Charlotte sing along to an old One Direction song, remembering the time when you both went to see them, Harry being your favourite and Zayn being hers. You were mega directioners and it made you smile at that time when things were simple and all you had to worry about was whether you wanted hot chocolate that evening or tea. But now things were different. You were in a stable relationship, you were engaged. You were going to get married soon.

For the whole of your childhood you never wanted to get married young but when you love someone can you really say no?

Well only if you don’t really love them.

You shook your head at the possibility. Liam was the perfect man for you, he always made sure you were ok and always tried for you, even if he was difficult at times, that didn’t make you love him any less. But then there is Tom. Your eyes found the brown eyed boy dancing around with Charlotte, Harrison laughing and holding his stomach. Tom was a blessing from above. You loved everything about him and most of all he cared about you. He had always put you first, yet you were too blind to see it happening. You flopped back onto the sofa closing your eyes. You needed to stop thinking, Liam was your one and only and you had promised to spend the rest of your life with him. You didn’t promise Tom that. Distracting you from the never-ending spiral of thoughts was a pillow thrown at your head making your eyes snap open to see Harrison guiltily standing behind Charlotte.

“You really want to start this?” You asked raising and eyebrow and smiling sarcastically. Another pillow hit you but from Charlotte this time, “That’s it” You stood throwing a pillow at Harrison hitting him square in the face. From this point it was a crazy frenzy of pillows being thrown and when Tom tripped on a spare one lying around and fell into you, it was ridiculously funny. You led underneath him laughing uncontrollably and protected you from pillows being thrown from your siblings. Your hands rested on Tom’s chest, so he didn’t fall on you and you could see now why this looked bad to your fiancée who walked in. The smile wiped from his face, but you didn’t see him until the room went silent.

“Y/N?” He asked as you mentally groaned pushing Tom gently off you, so you could stand, you awkwardly accepting his hand to help you up and you dusted off your trousers, “Can I have a word?”

“Babe we were just messing around, Tom tripped, it was an accident” He didn’t look convinced as your siblings and Tom stood in complete silence, “You know that Tom is my best friend okay? We were all just messing around” Liam nodded slowly before offering his hand to you and you took it as he spoke quietly to you; Tom and your siblings watching the conversation.

“You are mine Y/N. I’m trying for you and you’re making it difficult for me to find a reason as why I should. Don’t make me angry, we both don’t like it when I get angry; so, are we clear?” You nodded before he looked up at everyone in the room and he left going back up to the room you shared. You quickly turned around picking up any stray pillows on the floor and placing them back on the sofa. You weren’t going to cry in front of Charlotte and Harrison and definitely not Tom. Liam had never acted like that before and it scared you. You felt you deserved it though, you had to admit that you were playing along, and you didn’t stop yourself.

“Y/N” Tom spoke touching your shoulder, but you shrugged him off, “I didn’t mean”

“You need to be home soon. I think you should go, I’ll see you tomorrow” You looked at Tom, your eyes slightly watery. You were more embarrassed than anything else. Liam had said that in front of the most important people in your life. You had a right to be embarrassed.

“Y/N please”

“It’s fine Tom. I’ll see you tomorrow” You smiled, your eyes watering heavily now and you sighed before shrugging and leaving the room with a heavy heart.

2017, a year review

‘There was no touching, no love.’

I’d been meaning to write on here for a while, in some sort of ‘nourishing cleanse’, and for someone that rarely reads as I ought to, this quote sprang to mind. It’s from Ian McWean’s Child in Time, and even while I thought it was kind of relevant to this year, before I’d even thought about what I wanted to say, I had to google it to see if I’d remembered it correctly. 

‘Now there was no mutual consolation, no touching, no love. Their old intimacy, their habitual assumption that they were on the same side, was dead.’ 

When I read that, the actual quote, it seemed to strike a chord with events off this year. 

In one year, so much feeling, emotion, hunger, passion, and ‘finalisation’ happened, something I never could’ve imagined it being the case when I was back in 2016. But before delving into so much soulful splendour, I can’t forget where things were going heading into 2017. 

I didn’t have many ‘drastic’ goals or anything crazy. I knew I had this crazy idea in my head of celebrating my 21st on a beach somewhere off a Thai Island, downing cocktails with my mates, and returning home with a glistening beach body. I knew that I just wanted to be happy with how I looked and how my body felt. Relationships, I was really excited by the prospect of moving forward and potentially finding someone, but who knows, who cares. Scrolling through my old Tumblr posts,  I was clearly very concerned about the state of my body, how big I felt I was, and how much I really hated it.

I consider myself fairly lucky in life. I made it to the age of 20, and didn’t have to witness any significant deaths of family or friends. That, life is a gift within itself. Towards the end of last year, in 2016, was my godfather, and I won’t say much on that because I don’t feel like I could write words that would do him justice enough, compared to the people that have been truly impacted by his passing, but with Aidan, I feel I have more of that privilege. Someone who you grow up with undoubtedly shapes your life in ways you don’t even realise. And that’s exactly, who Aidan was. He was, for much of my life, a best friend. Drawn out of the sand of a broken up friendship group in primary school, Aidan emerged as the guy, caring and crazy enough to just about take my role as best friend. 

I can remember the state of play before Aidan. Aidan came to my primary school later than the others, when we were older, slightly more cohesive snot bags running around screaming. Jack had always been my best friend before Aidan. Aidan was best friends with Gerrard, and Jack was mine. Adam appeared in the interim between the two, he was a friend, but we saw him as ‘weaker’ and abused that. 

The weird thing, looking back on my relationship with Jack, was that it was more ‘intimate’. Now, as a kid, there was no sexual desire, or lust, or even a drive to explore sexually with each other. You’re not capable of that at that age, but we used to cuddle in bed, and do equally as intimate things. It was a very weird friendship, but so sweetly close, so sweetly close. And the odd thing about it, was, I remember, before understanding or realising that we’re all capable of love, was that in an odd way I had some sort of ‘love’ for him. When we ceased to be friends, I remember yearning for that. We were incredibly close in such a weird, intimate way. 

With Aidan, that wasn’t the case. I can remember how the new friendship groups formed. I mean at the end of the day, we’re a bunch of young kids, who change friends and social patterns / circles continually. 

As time was progressing, the social circles were flipping. Jack was becoming best friends with Gerrard, and that put Aidan and I in awkward position. We were both loosing our best friends. So we had to adapt and ‘survive’. Truth is, I never cared for Aidan much at the beginning. I used to love running around being crazy as a kid. But even as a kid I was quite placid in some respects. Jack had this sort of understated placid-ness that meant we both got on so well and were on similar wavelengths. Aidan was never like that. He was mad, all the time. He never stopped. And that took some time to get used to. But over a few years, we were best friends. Jack was gone. Bye. Aidan was now top of the friend chain list. He was my number one, and remained in that position for a number of years. 

Those years, mostly faded to insignificance though. The years I remember the most, the best were the years of young teenage hood, and entering puberty. Which happened scarily early for me. I can’t really dispute how idealised my childhood and early teenage years were - I used to bike to my best friends house in the summer, and we would ride around his village until late at night, and then sleep over at his house. What could have been more fun that as a kid? That was great, and an overarching theme of our friendship. 

In-between that we had his parents. The most friendly bunch you would probably see. We took so many trips away around the UK with Aidan’s parents. That was pretty cool, and sweet, something most parents wouldn’t even stop to consider doing for their kids and their friends.

Then, he just had to move to a more remote village 10 miles away didn’t he? The goalposts were pushed, but by that time, so were other things in our relationship. We still hung out, and did the normal things. But we were becoming teenage boys, our voices deepening, growing taller and slender. But along with growing up, our sexualities began to develop. Aidan forms the foundation of my sexual development as an adolescent. How weird is it looking back on that now? 

What I still find crazy and perplexing to this day, is how all of this developed suddenly from the ground up. I mean, we must’ve been pretty young at this point, no older than 14. I’d been masturbating since I was 11 and had my own laptop. Porn and self-pleasure certainly weren’t alien topics to me. I guess that’s pretty normal for any teenage boy. You might not start at 11 like I did (which was all completely my own doing and self discovery), but I challenge you to find one guy that hasn’t watched porn or masturbated before they’re 16. 

Except, things were a bit different for me, and I soon began to realise I was a bit different. Not only had my sexual development started, I realised I wasn’t watching the kind of online porn that most guys would watch. I was watching gay porn. Literally from the start. There was none of this going to straight porn first, or just focussing on the guy. I went straight in for the gay porn, and to be honest, while I found it weird, I knew I was loving it straight away. 

But out from that grew a desire to experiment. As I was becoming a sexual being, I wanted to share that with someone. Reading stories of circle, jerks, and guys beating each other sent me going wild. For a highly sexualised young teenager this was crazy good stuff. 

Now, with Aidan, like most teenage boys, when I was over we would often go on video chatrooms and like together, and of course, there would be, a lot of dicks. I remember one time this guy (who looked about 18) asked if he wanted to see him suck his own penis. We both looked horrified at each other, and then said yes. The guy started to take off his pants, before I clicked the ‘next cam’ button. 

Hmmm interesting, something had certainly piqued Aidan’s interest there. 

For Christmas one year, I received an iPod Touch. I found a ‘spin the bottle’ app on there, which we decided to use to play truth or dare. This was with another friend, who was far less exploitative or ‘crazy’ than Aidan in every aspect anyway. 

The dares were fairly normal for the most part, but sometimes sexually funny. For example, strip off and run outside somewhere. Now we weren’t quite crazy enough for that, but walking down the stairs of his house naked, or mooning, weren’t out of the question. But I wanted to push things further, I liked where this was slowly heading. I continued to search for other apps, eventually finding one where you could input your own dares. I started off lightly. Things like exposing your penis and getting hard, or giving your friend a reach around. It involved touching, but that was about it. 

About this time though, the other friend lost interesting the newly sexual element of the dares, but for Aidan and I, the sexual element seemed to grow. So what did we do? We started to have sleepovers without the other friend. Just the two of us. Sometime between that time, dares grew to playing with the other person for a number of minutes, and not just seconds. And so too did the tasks, oral sex became the norm, as did extended hand jobs, dry humping, and even one a couple of occasions, penetration, but never full on sex. 

Oddly, no kissing was ever involved, it purely revolved around the sexual aspect. And this included, sometimes playing outside. At first, it was very awkward when we came, he became very awkward, sheepish, withdrawn and shy, and would often exclaim that it wasn’t going to happen again. I got very weird feelings in my stomach, and used to start feeling incredibly guilty and begin thinking about ‘god’. Looking back on it, there was nothing wrong with what we did, it was nothing more than the intense ‘programming’ that you receive from society about not playing with other guys. To top it off, I had a belief in God then, and Aidan was very religious (his house backed onto a church, and his mum was a warden for it!). 

Eventually, that began to decrease as we aged, the ‘I’m never doing that again rhetoric’ depleted, and we began to discuss what was happening ‘Have you ever done this with anyone else? ‘Do any of your friends know’ ‘are you gay or straight’ ‘No, no, I’m straight’ were always the answer to those and similar questions. 

For me, it really was a crazy moment. I’d literally fantasised about playing this sexual games with my friends, and here I was, it was happening right in front of me before my eyes. 

Except there was one glaring change that threatened it all. Girls. Before we’d began to properly have fun, Aidan had been seeing a girl, Bryony or something weird like that. And that all ended. Who knows it was a ‘teenage’ thing. We were very young, and relationships didn’t last long back then. By the time I was 14, I’d ‘dated’ a few girls. Tracey, Jo, Lana, and others, but nothing had happened and I’d never felt as sexual. 

But then something changed, I introduced Aidan to this girl that was a friend of a friend of mine, and they quickly started dating, and when I say they started dating, I mean properly. Within a couple of months they were a couple. And not just a pseudo-teenage couple, they properly fell in love. They were together for at least four years. Meeting at around the age of 14, and continuing right through to the time we were in uni together. 

That was the end of our fun. And I slowly saw Aidan less and less, we’d still hang out as a group of friends occasionally, and I’d go to birthday parties and the like. But the main closeness and sexual exploration was over. For the most part, I was cool with that. I’d experimented on another guy, and lost my full virginity to a guy at 15. I was happy I still got to be friends with him, and sparing some awkward moments where his girlfriend made jokes about us ‘getting freaky’ and us looking sheepish and awkward at each other, it was all good. 

The last proper time I hung out with Aidan was at my school prom. We went to different high schools, but because he was going out with a girl from my school, it meant he got to go to the prom. That was actually an incredibly fun night, and Aidan was as crazy as ever. 

But then it was off to uni. We both had busy summers. I was doing music courses, going on family holidays, and away with mates I went to school with. Aidan was doing similar things and spending time with his girlfriend and church friends. We’d made it to 18, and never spoken once about the our ‘intimate’ growing up. 

There were only a couple of times I saw him after that. Once, when he came to my uni town for a rugby game, with a mate from his uni. We spent an hour or two together with the mate and made some food, and the second was at a gathering for his girlfriend around that Christmas. 

Those were to be the last occasions I ever saw him. 

I think like most, it’s quite difficult to stay in contact with your home friends while at uni. Aidan and I had experienced years of not properly hanging out or seeing each other frequently since our relationships with school friends grew, and he had a relationship. I tried to keep that relationship going, inviting him to my 19th birthday for example, but he couldn’t come as he was feeling ‘heavily depressed’. This was something I thought he’d slowly worked through and gotten over, but apparently not. 

Depression seemed to be a weird underlying current within their family. While I’m not sure about his parents, his sister for sure had suffered depression for a number of years when she was younger, I remember walking into their house, her with bouts of tears, and with Aidan telling me about his sisters previous suicide attempts. For the most part though, as she grew older, her mental health improved. I never spoken to Aidan in detail about his sisters mental health. I never felt it was my place. But I guess, I should’ve focussed more on Aidan in that time. If I could’ve done my part to prevent his passing, just by talking to him, then I would have done. Not that I in one way feb responsible or guilty for his passing. 

26th of April 

Then we skip forward to this year. 2017. A year and a bit later. It should be a normal day, I’m sat on my computer, finishing off some uni work, and lie everything that happens in the 21st century. There’s no phone call or text, but an inbox message waiting from Lana, and as I flick my trackpad down a couple of times, there it is. A stream of messages writing condolences on Aidan’s wall. I couldn’t believe my eyes. And tears were streaming and streaming. That was it, the news had hit. And that was it, a few weeks later I was sat at his funeral, with Lana and other friends. Touching his beautifully Aidan coffin at his funeral, and saying goodbye for the final time. 

I find it so sad that he felt the need to end his life, but I didn’t know him well enough in his later years to speculate or realise just how he’d been feeling. What I’d really looked forward to and wished one day, was that we would finally talk about and laugh over our childhood, talking about all of the crazy things that had happened, girlfriends, our sexualities and the stupid and sexual things we did as a kid. Part of me for a long time, after it happened and now, leaves me wondering his sexuality. Was he bi, curious, gay? I don’t think he was gay, loads of guys mess around with their peers and aren’t gay. But then you have the other friend, who wasn’t even slightly interested in the things that we were doing and the games that we would play. Was that a fairer representation of what heterosexuality is? 

I’ll never know. I hope wherever you are now, that you’re at peace with whatever meant you couldn’t keep going in this world. You were always a great friend to me. 

Pure unadulterated debauchery

In many ways, the closing moments of 2016 were a precursor to some of the larger themes that would filter my life this year. Sure, there were the expected elements like finishing a degree, but something I’d never imagined would have taken an interesting turn in my life would be exploring what it is to have such liberated, free sex. 

At the end of 2016, my interest in perverse kinky sex came to a head, when I attended a fetish new years party, covered in nothing over than a rubber t shirt and a jockstrap. Some boots and rugby socks also permitted. 

I’d never imagined it would become such an important or kinky theme to my sex life. What spouted out as a failed threesome from a guy whose housemates went home, turned into kinky sex with a perverse young lad my age in my uni town. Little did I know his influence for me to install a ‘kinky’ app, would have me meeting so many amazing and colourful people. 

This app was like no, grindr or any other app I had used. The way it worked meant conversation was rarely geared towards instant hooking up, it was about building a connection with that person and discovering their interests before agreeing to meet. And perhaps even then, you wouldn’t even meet for sex. 

See, grindr is selling sex. While I’ve had so much more come out of grindr than just simply sex. It’s introduced me to friends, brought interesting experiences, and amazingly sad experiences, it’s main role is to get you sex. And this is it’s problem, it’s selling sex. But with this fetish app, it’s selling you a community, a lifestyle, and friendly people that share your interest and yearning to do something different in the bedroom. 

Compared to some of the people I’ve met, I’ve never been as ‘mad on it’. Partially that’s because in my uni city you can’t be. When you live with a bunch of people that have little to no understanding of how perverse your sex life can be, and there aren’t a lot of people around you that are into donning rubber, and tying each other up, there isn’t a lot you can do to explore that field. 

But that didn’t mean I couldn’t have a little fun... While attending a kink/fetish new years party hosted by the app was an incredibly fun experience, I never anticipated that I would be spontaneously booking a train ticket and hotel to Manchester to continue with the kinky fun in April at another event. 

And that wasn’t the only one, there was a whole week of Fetish play in London that summer. Probably one of the most exhausting, challenging and rewarding weeks I’ve had. 

London Fetish Week, was, for the most part a bit mad. It was crazy good fun, and I got to meet a lot of lovely kinky guys, and make plenty of friends. This of course continued right the way through to the very end of this year, where just a few days ago, where in between some club-come railway arches, I was partying  the night away in rubber, and entering rooms lit with smoke to enhance ‘sensory experiences’. I won’t delve too much further. Let’s just say it was a fun night. 

While I hadn’t planned on any of this really happening, what is more surprising to me is the number of people I’ve introduced to my rubber, and got them intrigued / talking about it. Something that could only have happened with me being more open about it. 

From wearing it in a hookup, putting it on for my best friend, or showing a guy I used to have a crush on how I liked to play in the bedroom, I feel like I’ve opened or widened their eyes. Sex doesn’t just have to be vanilla. And while I love both, the annoying thing is, it’s left me massively questioning now if I could ever enter a relationship with a partner that wasn’t as kinky as I, or at least didn’t understand it. 

I don’t think it would matter too much in the short term. But in the longer term, when the ‘honeymoon period’ is settled, and I’m longing to don some rubber and have a dirty sweaty fuck, then who would be there to help me with it? I’d be trapped. In a weird way, I’m hoping it will be one of the problems I face in 2018. In a strange way, it would be nice to meet someone that I’m either going to have this dilemma with. I know it’s a weird thing to say, but it would be quite nice to finally have someone I’m left wanting to share more of myself with. 

‘My son’s not a queer!’ - Dad

I need not rewrite about my life as a non open male. I’ve known for years now that I was different, that I wasn’t straight. And in the process, as time has gone on I’ve questioned more and more what my ‘true’ nature is. I’ve always preferred claiming I was bisexual. It allowed me to have a fundamental connection with ‘the boys’. After all we’re all sexual beings, commenting on girls tits, ‘god what a cracker’, is supposed to be something ‘all guys’ are capable of, and it brings us together. But at the same time, most of the time that just isn’t me. I’ve been left confused - brief moments of intimacy with women (especially compared to my track record with guys), leaves me briefly wondering. But also, massively panicking. Often when I come close to a girl I’m left in a panicky messy sweat. I kid you not, when I say this summer that I started getting off with a lovely girl that I knew, she obviously wanted it to to go further. The friend I was out with also pulled. So what did I do? Panic, claim I need to go back to my friends place place, then go home, get on grindr and have a gay friend over to comfort me and spoon me. He literally had to hug me and tell me to relax and stop worrying about it, because I was shaken with anxiety over it. 

When you make it to 21, and you’re still not sure if you’re even enjoying kissing girls, then you know you have a problem. I know I should be completely aware of what my sexuality is. I’ve known I’ve not been straight for far too long, but just some certainty on if I’m gay, or bisexual would be nice. While I know that maybe those labels don’t actually work the best, it at least allows me to quantify it to myself and explain it to other people. 

I’ve had my moments where I’m left doubting myself, but this year, I’ve enjoyed the most snippets of straight and bisexual porn than I ever have. The ‘fear’ of a vagina has diminished, and I don’t feel ‘repulsed’ by it, like I often did during university. But then I suppose my sexuality has always changed, and had its fluid moments. Before getting to experiment with a girl in my teenage years, there was the time when I must’ve been about 14, and my piano teacher was wearing panties. While I was sat behind her waiting for her previous pupil to finish her lesson, I remember being drawn and unable to take my eyes off her back and her panties. Then more recently, there’s the fact that I’ve been enjoying more ‘straight porn’ than ever before. For once the idea of being a ‘hot guy’ (well maybe not right now) and having sex with an attractive girl kinda actually seems pretty damn appealing to me. 

Okay, so that’s the first bit of ‘reasoning’ I’ve had to try and explain or quantify my sexuality, but what about the other people I know? 

What is bisexual? 

If I’ve realised anything this year, it’s that when it comes to sexuality, it’s never fucking clear. But one thing I’ve really quantified is the number of people around me, that really aren’t actually completely straight. Take my old housemates for example, if you include me, there are three ‘open bisexuals’, two girls that have experimented with other girls and wouldn't say they were ‘completely straight’, a guy that’s definitely playing with guys and girls but in the closet, a girl that’s basically a saint having never done with anyone, but said she would never rule out sexual relations with another girl. And 2 others that I’ve no reason to believe they’re anything other than straight. 

Then take my current house, a house of 6 guys (7 accounting for the one that moved out this year), we have a guy that’s clearly struggling dealing with sexuality and his desires pertaining to experimenting with other guys, one that gets touchy feely and weirdly defensive about other guys touching him when he’s drunk (plus he’s camp and a bit girly), and one that likes to grope me every single time we’re both drunk on a night out. That leaves half of the house to be ‘straight’. So out of 14 people I’ve lived with during university, we have 9 people that aren’t ‘straight’. Does this mean, as I’ve suspected as I became older, that since the Greek and Roman eras, us humans have actually just been fascinatingly brilliant at oppressing our natural sexuality? I think deep down, we’re actually all just a bit gay. But I think there’s more to it than that...

So this gay thing then?

We all know what gay is. I’m not defining gay here. I don’t even think, like I toiled over before with the whole fluid sexuality and people being bi or not completely straight, is necessary, the question is, am I gay? Is my overarching sexuality, being drawn towards men? What does that mean if I’m not bi? 

Well, if I’m honest, look at who I am. On a day to day basis, I don’t think it changes much. Like I’m so scared of uttering those words ‘I’m gay’, that being ‘bi’ like so many gay guys, has been the default go to option. But me saying I’m gay does a coupe of things. I don’t have to worry about kissing girls and getting awkward about it. I mean, it makes it ‘harder’ for me to start getting with girls, but how often am I kissing girls? My day to day lifestyle doesn't change. I’m still gonna be living on grindr, swiping guys on tinder, for the most part watching gay porn, and being the ultimate gay and going to fetish events up and down the country, who knows maybe even abroad. So what’s so different about me uttering the words I’m gay? 

Looking at London Pride this year. That was a fantastic experience. If there’s one way to live London, it’s to do it by living within walking distance to a tube station. I love that i’m so close to London at home, yet so far at the same time. If I could walk to a tube, I’d have the endless possibilities of one of the most amazing places in the world. 

But more importantly, London pride unlocked something in me that was always really there. The ability to go mega camp, and strut my stuff. Every time I’ve done London pride I’ve loved it for different reasons. Whether the first time I went it was ogling hot guys, and then when my soon to be boyfriend turned up, having the most romantic time making out with him in public to crowds cheering, or this year, becoming the campest I think I’ve ever been with friends, enjoying London’s nightlife, and then later realising and loving how natural it felt to be that camp all the time. Was great. 

On balance, being camp doesn’t make me gay. And I could still be that camp as a ‘bisexual’ man, or less likely, a ‘straight’ guy, and while I loved heavily camping it up like that, I don’t think that is my day to do me, and I’m not sure I would want to live like that all of the time. But then, why would I? I’m the person that want’s to cling onto bisexuality so that I can talk about ‘tits with the lads’. At the end of the day, I still panic massively when getting with a girl. 

Is there more to this not liking girls thing? 

Being scared when a girl approaches or is into me, has posed some problems, mostly making me anxious, and knowing theres no way in hell I could perform. I know in my mind I have some very strange conceptions, about women that I can’t seem to shake. In the back of my head, there seems to be this running notion that women have to be treated like these complete beautiful delicate flowers, they must be treated with respect. I’ve never been one of those guys that would go up and grope a girl in a club, or think that was ever acceptable, just because he thinks he can get away with it. But by that same token, I literally don’t care if I’m not shown that same sort of personal respect. And I’m not saying that in a way like, come up to me and touch me, I won’t care, but literally, I’ve been in bloody saunas in London where you have to tell old men to piss off or get their hands away from you after they’ve taken a sneaky grope or too. Plus I’ve had women (and men alike in clubs) grope me, and to be honest I couldn’t really give two shits. 

But I know just because I, and probably a lot of other men don’t care, that women probably wouldn't. I know a helluva lot of women that care about that kinda thing, and to be honest it’s small things like that that scare me. You know its this fear of going from, kissing a girl to going, ‘right well why don't you come back to my place and we can fuck’. I guess part of that stems from the fact that with guys I’m often so used to the fact that sex is so explicit. You want sex you go on grindr, send pics, an hour later they’re at your door. 5 minutes later, your clothes are off. And yes hookups happen with girls on tinder, but I’ve just never had that confidence to exploit that sexually. For someone that’s straighter than I am, it’s not a problem, because you’ll put all your efforts in (especially while younger), into trying it on with girls and you’ll establish what largely works for you. 

I’ve never had that opportunity to establish what works for me in that way, so essentially right now, nothing. My sexual contact with women has been explicitly discussed before it has happened, and that has been something of a massive rarity. 

So basically, like a 13 year old boy - I’m scared to approach girls. And honestly, I don’t think going to a single sex school helped. And on reflection, there’s nothing I can do about that now, other than have to get over it. and the only way to get over it is to try it on with girls. But why do I ned to try it on with girls, when I can get man on man sex so much more easily and conveniently and fulfil my sexual desires that way? Then there’s the added complication of, well how much do I even like girls? Is there enough of a like and an appeal for me to want to actually bother? Like I know what I’m doing with guys, I know how this whole gay sex thing works pretty well by now, and for the most part and other than the fear of an incurable STD or HIV, largely works for me, ya know. 

In addition, being involved in gay sex has given me some fantastic sexual opportunities that if I’m honest, I don’t think I ever could have witnessed at this age and in such depth if was having heterosexual sex. 

‘My sons not a queer’ 

If there’s anything London pride renewed in me, was a sense of campuses and belonging. But not just that, far more important than that, was the rhetoric going on in my head, that I feel safer, freer, and happier being open about my sexuality. I don’t feel ‘straight’ anymore, and struggle massively to fall in line of being ‘completely straight’ especially when I’m at home. I browse grindr at the kitchen table in front of my friends, and comment on fit men, I openly have guys over, and will sometimes even discuss dates. Having lived that lifestyle it’s very difficult to go back, especially when there is one glaring omission. Girlfriends. 

Now, this isn’t so much a problem, at university. My housemates and friends know what Im up to and what I’m into (well, they don’t know the half of it), but my parents, for a 21 year old boy, that’s never had a girlfriend, had a girl over, or shown signs of a relationship, but they who themselves were married from my age, it’s a bit odd to them. 

I don’t think it mattered much when I started university, but I can tell by now they’re having their doubts. And it’s not to say that I’m camp at home, (or even in day to day life), I don’t strut my stuff, I don’t comment on hot accessories or lip balms, butt, I’m not that most masculine thing at home, and I find it awkward when my dad, and even my mum comments on these beautiful women ‘aren’t they?’. That’s the problem, ever time this happens, it makes it harder for me to put up with it, and it just makes me want to shout in their ear that I am, not in fact straight. 

In fact, the biggest hook, line and sinker of the year, had to be when on holiday in September. We were sat in a grill house, and I was feeling pretty ill from my medication that day, queasy and out of it. Somehow, my mum managed to drop in some sort of joke about ‘well then, do you like girls or do you like boys’, other than nearly (subtly I might add), choking on my food, and being stumped for words, I thought to myself (well you didn’t say both, so I guess Il’l just lie about that answer), and managed to back out of it. To which my dad said ‘yeah our sons not gay’. 

No more than a couple of weeks prior at a family do, my parents were dropping off some family in the car, when I asked my dad to drop me off in the gym, my aunt started going on about these gay guys being ‘Muscle Mary’s’ and always being obsessed with the gym, to which I said something along the lines of ‘oh didn’t realise only gay people went to the gym. My dad’s response, ‘our sons not a queer’. 

Now in an ideal world, I like to think my dad isn’t homophobic..., (I think deep down, he would get over / accept the fact that I like men and get over it. It would be a shock, but it’s something he would have to and would deal with. I see the like of pride in his eyes when he talks about me, and is proud of my achievements. I know I’m not the sporting mad son that he’d always wanted me to be, but I’m naturally far more creative than I am sporting, and I was always often too shy to continue following sporting pursuits. It also doesn't largely help that I have one working eye and the hand eye coordination of a bat.) ...but at the end of the day, that’s not the first homophobic remark he’s made, and they used to especially upset me for the first couple of years when I came back from uni, for the holidays, him making these remarks, and me sinking back into the newly lost freedom that I’d had.  

Pull the trigger, come out, I dare you? 

I think in my head, I tend to live in the same closeted world that I did when I was 15 or 16. That is to say, my interactions with guys, especially online were from those who weren’t out, very much coming to terms with their sexuality or had accepted it, and were preparing to. I can safely say that by now, the majority of the gay or bi people that I know, are openly so, including to their parents. And then there’s me, in some open limbo, a halfway house, where coming out seems to be necessary but still feel like such an insanely bitter thing to do to yourself in order to live a happy life. 

My views on being open and coming out have changed dramatically, since I went to uni. Before the belief was always this, go on grindr sleep with guys, never tell the parents, maybe tell a couple of people, but always keep it under wraps, live a secretive lifestyle, and never tell them. But now, when I talk to guys on grindr or online, or guys I’ve met up with, hooking up behind their girlfriends eyes, refusing or denying that they’ll ever come out or tell their parents, I pity them. I question, what sort of existence is that? This is Britain, 2017, there’s no need for that surely? 

But then I remember by my own token, if I hadn’t drunkly outed myself, and then become more used to the process of slowly coming out to people (largely my age), without repercussion, then I probably too would hold similar views. I feel it’s only until you start coming out to people and realising that they don’t care, that you can only truly start to realise how little a deal it is to most people. And to those that do, you can set an example, and show how much diversity there is over your sexuality. There really isn’t one size fits all, gay, lesbian or bi guy. 

I think one thing that has always prevented me from coming out, has been the way my sexuality has been handled in the past. I needn’t go into too many details other than, when someone outs your homosexual activities in school, and people make fun of it, then you’re going to push yourself further back into Narnia than you even knew existed. 

It really is just the question of parents now. I’m open to most people, Im not the person I was in 2014, or 2012. I’ll for the most part, be open about my sexuality. But, it’s my parents, it really is that one thing. 

I’ve been inches away from coming out this year. In February I was having a shit time of it, I felt like my world was coming crashing in, littered with sadness. And I remember being sat at my desk tearing my eyes out, writing a letter. Ready to send to my parents, and drive back home so I could come home, get some comfort and sort myself out for a while. In the end, things changed slightly and I didn’t. 

One important question remains though. I think there is well and truly a need to do it now, that is no longer a question at all. Whatever, it’s going to have to happen, I just think I’m 21 now, there’s no need to be living a lie like this anymore. But... it’s how. I’ve thought about sitting them down and having a chat. But to be honest, I just hate hate hate, the idea of doing that, it seems so forced, so rigid. It’s like saying that, ‘sit down I have some bad news’, ‘the dog is dead’, or ‘I have cancer’ - why should I have to sit them down in such an inorganic way and tell them. I’ve considered telling them while on holidays in the past. Sat on an evening sipping cocktails, relaxed, talking in a way that we don’t usually and sharing things about ourselves. What about then? But no the opportunity rarely arises enough, and there’s just enough of a niggly doubt that leaves to me think it’s a good idea. 

So I think I’m left with one option, and that’s to tell them via a letter and invite them to discuss it with me. But then, I’m not sure it’s something I want them to keep? You know? Once it’s done, it’s not like it’s a letter announcing a prize or a will, I’d kind of just want it to be gone by that point, but they can know that I then did it. At least with a letter I could say what I wanted to say without fluffing up the words, and get the ‘important’ points across. 

All I know is, for 2018, I’m making it my mission to come out.

Euroa parkrun tourism and camping trip...….

The much-anticipated Euroa parkrun tourism and camping trip came around quickly and saw 33 LRC members head north up the Hume Highway on Friday the 12th of April. 

The first campers arrived mid afternoon and started setting up on the large green area the size of a football field nestled by the Seven Creeks Creek. The first tent to go up resembled the Taj Mahal and consisted of incense, faux fur rugs and cushions and many other glamping delights. 

By 7pm all but one site and one cabin had been filled and we scuttled off to the camp kitchen to cook our dinner. Jim Wilson lit the most amazing camp fire, there were bottles clinking, disco lights and the karaoke begun. 

It wasn't to be a late night was it Ali? We were all looking forward to attending Euroa parkrun in the morning. Morning came around and it was exciting to see everyone gather for the long 400m walk to the start of Euroa parkrun.

When we arrived we were given a personal first timers briefing by the Event Director and it wasn't long before 8am rolls around and we set off along the parkrun course.

The course was more trail and cross country then concrete path. Firstly we had to do a loop near the caravan park and then head out to a turn around point before returning to do the loop near the caravan park again and then head to the finish line where excitement was brewing as with our 33 members present Euroa parkrun was about to smash it's attendance record. 

At the completion of parkrun we all walked up the road a few blocks to the Jumbuck Cafe where we were treated to a traditional country breakfast and service amongst the LRC members and the parkrun event team. The event director approached Mel and said "I'm sorry it may take us 8 hours to get the results to you as we believe there is an issue with the timer today." "Don't Fear" Mel said "Kaz is here" and Mel dropped Kaz into the shit to help the event director fix the results. Huge thanks to Kaz. 

With the results done and posted it was time for us to pay our bill and head back to camp where some of us decided to jump in the car and check out the local Violet Town Market. The market was great, there was lots of things to see, lots of local produce to buy and even chef Huey was there with his sausage fingers selling hot sauce. From here it is believed that two cheeky LRC ladies headed to the pub for a frothy #diditreallyhappen and the rest headed home. 

It wasn't long before night fell again, the campfire stoked, pizza ordered and marshmallows being cooked for all. It was time for some entertainment with a book called "Mum's don't fart" being read to the entire group Romper Room style and then candid interviews of all our camp kids proving to be very entertaining. We pumped up the Aussie rock classics and chatted around the campfire.

The night was still young and I witnessed Mel looking at her phone for something to do. "Arrgghhhhhh" She exclaimed "Let's play chubby bunnies" Mel opened a packet of marshmallows and called for a victim "who wants to play chubby bunnies?" Jackson was quick to put up his hand and the game was explained. You had to put a marshmallow in your mouth and then say chubby bunnies. You had to say chubby bunnies correctly to continue in the game. Insert another marshmallow without chewing or swallowing the first marshmallow and say chubby bunnies etc. etc. Jackson managed to fit 24 marshmallows in his mouth before the dribbling started and incorrect pronunciation of chubby bunnies was said. Kaz put her hand up to compete against Jackson but was only able to take 12 marshmallows. Good try Kaz. 

It wasn't long till the group was split into two with one group heading to the pub and the other group staying by the campfire. Now it is believed that the pub group that enjoyed soda water, tonic water, hide and seek, star gazing, an Irish man called Rosie and a few laughs with the Euroa Football Team (hmmmmmm). They staggered back to camp at about 1am kept it quiet to not wake our fellow camp members made sure everyone was in their own tent/cabin safely and headed to bed. 

At 6:30am Sunday morning there was not a stir at the campsite (except for some tooting and snoring). A 7am social run was looming but no one was to be seen. At 6:45am a few zips went up and runners/walkers came out of their tents. Ali, Nalini, Paula, Karen and Jim walked 7 kilometres around the Seven Creeks Trail whilst Crux, Ashish, Ciaran and Mel took off for a 15k run (I have no idea how Ciaran and Mel backed up a big night at the pub with a 15k run?) It wasn't long before all the runners and walkers returned and it was time to clean and pack up camp. With cars fully loaded, everyone said their goodbyes and the convoy started to head back towards Melbourne. Everyone was talking about where the next camping trip and parkrun tourism will be. 1. Thanks Mel and everyone at LRC for creating a wonderful, fun, safe and relaxing camping environment catering for everybody from young to old; walkers to runners; non-drinkers to harden old timers. Something for everyone - do as little or as much as you want with no judgement and lots of stories to share for the rest of the year 

2. Me and Melissa went on a run few months back and during conversation it came up that Me and Nalini have never been camping and as Mel is, she said let's do runcation including camping and the rest is history .We had a truly amazing experience. Thank you everyone.

3. Was so lovely that I could bring my family and each one feel so welcome... got a lovely feeling of extended family, which was so lovely being that we are from the UK so have no extended family here. Nice to check out a new ParkRun... maybe next time we'll brave a tent

4. Miss Madailein and I had an amazing weekend. Such a peaceful place (what noise complaint ) and loads of fun with my LRC family. I was stoked that I was able to spend time with some of the club members I wouldn't otherwise. Maddy said that she had a ball with the kids and puppy dogs and felt so comfortable with everyone. A relaxed environment enjoyed by the camp fire with a few charred marshmallows... and of course you couldn’t miss the sea of red and blue as we represented at Euroa parkrun. And luckily for all involved I made it through the weekend without going into labour...

13. After a very stressful few weeks, this weekend away was exactly what I needed. Time away with friends in a beautiful location. I loved chilling around the campfire!! Highlight was definitely story time with aunty Mel followed by chubby bunnies!!! 

14. What a wonderful weekend with my running family. Never thought I would enjoy camping, although I had an absolute ball. Jim and his fire, parkrun, sausage sizzle, apple ciders, marshmallows, kids laughing, friends chatting and hugs galore. What a runcation…. When is the next one?

Before I start making posts about Christmas, (that’ll appear very soon because of how excited I am for it) I wanted to reflect on my summer this year. It ended up being a lot busier than planned, however, I ended up being very productive while having a lot of fun at the same time. To summarise: I went on 3 / 4 holidays, worked for 8 weeks and had a few other exciting things happen.

So, with university, our summer holidays usually start in May. This means I had 3 ½ months to occupy with something rewarding and enjoyable. I think I did quite well, which I hope you agree with when I go through it all.

  May 26th – 29th: Camping Holiday.

This was the bunch of people I went camping with, we went to Woolacombe, Devon.

It was a weekend filled with drinks, rain and camping. On the day we arrived the sun was shining brightly for us, so when we were all setting up the tents, we were able to watch the sunset. The view from our campsite (which was at the very top of the hill) was stunning.

The first night was awful. After the lovely sun we were blessed with, overnight it began tipping it down and we ended up being in the middle of a thunderstorm. Cam and I’s tent was soaked (thankfully we had a spare) but I was miserable because I was kept up most of the night. Thankfully the weekend perked up a bit, not in relation to weather but with activities. We spent the weekend chatting, swimming (as the campsite had its own private swimming pool), going into town for a night out, and even sunbathing on the beach… until it started to rain again.

All in all, it was a fun weekend, we just didn’t get the bank holiday luck in relation to the weather.

  June 3rd – 7th: Trip up North with my mum.

My mum’s family come from Newcastle, this is a 6-hour drive away from where we live, so its rare that we get the chance to go up and see them. We made plans and up we went for a few days away, reuniting with all my Geordie relatives. The Saturday was mainly spent driving, which my mum thankfully did all of…it was the coffee that kept her going! So, the Sunday is when we got to explore and see everyone. We met up with family, and also went to my grandparent’s grave, where my mum spruced it up a little a made it look really lovely.

I know it may seem wrong in a way to post a photo of the grave, but I’m proud to show off the love and care my mum put into it when making it special for my grandparents. They deserved to be remembered well, and by showing you all, I believe that assists it.

  The following days were spent shopping and seeing family. On Tuesday evening, I managed to get tickets to see a play I was desperate to see: A Curious Incident of a Dog in the Night-time.

It didn’t disappoint. It was clever, engaging and humorous. Even my mum, who had no idea what it was about, enjoyed it too. I felt in awe afterwards, all I wanted to do was watch the show again or create theatre in a similar way, it gave me inspiration. I wish I went to see it earlier when it was at West End, but I think seeing it with my mum, in the area she grew up, and knowing it was nearly at an end of its run, made it a lot more special.

  June 19th – 22nd:  Split, Croatia

This was my holiday that ventured outside of the UK this summer. My friend Rachel and I, organised ourselves to spend a few days away to relax, explore and enjoy ourselves. Croatia is such a beautiful place, so beautiful in fact it’s quite hard to describe! Thankfully I took some photos that were able to capture just an inkling of how stunning it was.

The last photo was taken at the Blue Lagoon, which we travelled too by speedboat. We were able to snorkel, swim and relax on the stony beach while staring out at the Adriatic Sea. This is Rachel and me.

    The one downside to this amazing trip away was how badly sunburnt I got. But to be honest that was completely my fault (as well as the sun’s reflection off the sea and the wind!) but that doesn’t change how much fun we had while we were away.

  4 days later: 26th June

I began working for 8 weeks straight, with only have weekends free and some evening every other 2 weeks. This job was with National Citizen Service (NCS for short), where I was a Team Leader to 2 groups, both around 13 young people aged 16. It’s a great summer job, I got paid to have fun all summer and to be honest, you can’t ask for much better!

These were my fellow team leaders. Rocking the pink! Together we went to Croyde Bay, where we spent a week surfing, coasteering, playing laser tag and doing a Total Wipeout course. After that we spent a week at Marwell Activity Centre, where there were workshops on Bar Flair from the bartenders at the Orange Room in Southampton, Old People’s Care home, the New Forest, Two Saints Homeless Shelter also in Southampton and many others. This was about the young people gaining new skills that they would be able to use later on in life. I think I also learnt some, but it was great watching my groups develop throughout the week.

Then after 2 weeks of having fun away from home, we had to do Social Action Projects for our communities. One of my groups fundraised for the Blue Cross Animal Shelter and donated a load of animal toys and beds etc, and my other group raised money for Basingstoke Neighbour Care, who supported the Elderly and helped transport them where they need to go.

I can’t lie and say working for 8 weeks in something so intense is easy because it’s not. But it was so rewarding that any difficulties I ended up facing were forgotten about. And like I said I got paid to have fun, and it was better than sitting around at home not doing anything! Once NCS was finished though, my summer was nearly over.

  August 19th – 26th: The last holiday.

Now that summer was coming to an end and I would be heading back to uni soon, my boyfriend and I had a holiday down in Cornwall. We stayed in 2 cottages over the week due to plumbing issues but none of that really mattered as I was on holiday with my favourite person.  The adventures we got up too included: Tintagel Castle.

Newquay Beach.

The Eden Project.

Fishing.

And shopping in Truro… unfortunately, I have no photos from Truro but it is a lovely little city/town.

My favourite part about going away with Cam was the fact that it was just us two, spending time with each other without any other distractions and that was great. It was perfect to relax and spend time together before we got back to the hustle and bustle of university life!

Before I’m finished with my rundown of my summer, one thing I didn’t mention was my birthday on the 18th July. After finishing work, I went home, got myself ready and went to see The Addams Family Musical with Cam, and two of my closest friends. It was such a great show, and it’s sad it over now (their last tour date was a few days ago) but all the cast should feel extremely proud of how successful and professional that show was. It was a great way to spend my birthday.

  Well, that’s it! If you made it this far, then congratulations to you! I wanted to write this so I have the memory of what a productive and fun summer I had in 2017 and what better way to do it than on my new blog.

15/01/2017 – Everyone survive Friday the 13th?

Hello anyone and everyone. I hope the last week has been a good one in spite of the poor weather and the January blues. I hope you all survived Friday the 13th unscathed! 

All’s normal on the magical mystery tour and we’re now a little further south, just outside a town called Aguilas in the Murcia region of Spain. We’ve dropped on a pretty nice campsite after dipping our toes in the very tourism orientated Benidorm / Alicante region. The price is good too which is always a bonus, especially after getting stung for £50 for electricity over an 8-day period at the last place! We had a windy but incident free drive down to the new site, and have settled in nicely.

The Site – is run by an English couple that I’m yet to meet, but seem very nice from what Erin says. They take in abandoned dogs and have amassed quite a pack by all accounts. The head honcho seems to be a wily old character named Merlin who I christened “Dickhead-Dog” after our first encounter! He came wondering over to our awning mat on the first day, and after having a good sniff about, decided to take a piss on the corner of our wind break and on Bears bed. I ran him off and we haven’t had any running’s since. He seems like a pretty cool dude even given his bad first impression. He’s got the run of the place and spends his days sitting with various campers (getting fed no doubt) and taking himself for strolls around the site and the nearby back roads. Another little female dog (kind of a sausage dog / beagle thing) called Maggie comes wondering up every now and then. She’s really sweet and shy. She’ll look at you like she’s trying to hold back her excitement with her tail pinned between her legs until you show her any kind of attention and then the head goes down with her big eyes looking up and her tail comes out and goes mad. She loves a fuss but also tends to dine and dash. I’ve started giving her treats and as soon as she’s got what she came for, it’s off back home to eat it.

It’s got everything we need here with the bogs and washing facilities but without all the crap that draws in the crowds. There must be 40 or 50 touring pitches set on this gravelly stuff, the landscape is pretty typical of Spain (what we’ve seen of it so far) with hills in all directions and everyone’s pretty friendly. It’s the usual mix of nationalities but there seem to be more folk from the UK over wintering now than before Christmas. There are next to no Spanish campers whereas before Christmas there were loads. There’s a few Dutch, some French then the odd Bulgarian or eastern European vans. Mostly English or Scottish though.

The Area – is nice but there is much exploring to be done in the 3 weeks we’re here. We’re struggling to find good walks and I’m struggling to find good rides because of all the private land. A hell of a lot of crops are grown here. So far, I’ve seen acres and acres of lettuce, tomatoes, oranges and I think some lemons. There are polythene tunnels and tents as far as the eye can see in some places with people working the land day and night. There are no hedges like back home so you get a clearer view of what’s being done. There are tractors to do the ploughing and what not, but most of the work is hands on picking and putting down seeds. I saw a bunch of older Spanish ladies pushing massive trolleys into the polythene covered fields having a laugh and a bit of banter. All the polythene tents and tunnels just make me think of E.T and the X-Files. I reckon it’s a big cover up!

As nice as it is to see the land providing for the population, it does get on my tits how much harder it is to explore the area. There are some lovely hills just waiting to be walked and ridden, yet all the surrounding areas are private with gates and signs all over the place. Tracks that look like they’ve been winding around the hills long before these guys added access roads off them, are gated and signs put up all over the shop. It also means that when you do eventually find an open route up the hill, there are no footpaths or trails to follow as no one walks up there and there’s no livestock wandering about. After a long climb on the bike a few days ago, looking forward to reaping the rewards of my work on some lovely downhill single-track or footpaths, I was greeted at the top by the road just ending at a house. I ended up dropping into a dried-up riverbed and following that down the valley but it was pretty rough going. I managed to find a good trail book for hiking and biking on the coast and in the local hills so I’ve got some adventures lined up. Can’t wait! Didn’t go out on the bike today and the days don’t feel complete without an adventure at least every other day which is good. It means I’m craving time outdoors which is the first time I’ve properly had that feeling since living in Wales!

Our first trip into town didn’t give a great impression. Lots of graffiti and a shitty beach that doesn’t allow dogs. On our second trip in we got further into the centre and it actually became quite nice. There’s a communal park thing in the middle of town surrounded by coffee shops and places to get food. It felt very Spanish and social with folk of all ages sat blethering, the women in their typical feisty fashion! The gals here take no shit, that is for sure! Erin keeps seeing lads trying to cut in line at Lidl only to get a bollocking from some Spanish bird and getting sent to the back!

The winds picked up over the last few days. We’re quite exposed here and it’s coming through at 15mph most the time with gusts over 20mph. A Spanish lady in L’Estartit warned us that the wind gets up after Christmas here and she wasn’t wrong. The temperature’s been pretty stable at between 15-19 degrees, but that drops down this week for a few days and we’ve even got 2 days of showers forecast. Shocker!!!

What else! Just reading through the post and it’s all a bit boring! Be nice to see some more likes and comments if you have anything to ask about what’s going on. Not getting so much feedback (apart from Mum – thanks Mum!!) so it’s starting to feel like no one’s reading anymore!

Anyway, sorry for the big gap since the last one! Will check back in after a few of my upcoming rides and after a few trips up some hills with the dogs!

Just wanted to come here to ask a question. My car is an '03 model and was caught in a hail storm a few weeks ago. Is this a ploy to get me to switch insurance companies and then they'll charge me higher rate after the first year or something? I think they must have thought I already own the car outright and didn't know I was planning on financing it. On the morning of Sept 14, 2011 my sister woke me up at home asking me where my car was. I went outside to discover my vehicle was gone. So I call the police to come and take a report but of course there wasn't enough officers on duty to send one out so I wake up my brother to get a ride to the station. Keep in mind this is between 2:30-5:00am and the last time I actually saw my car was Sept 13, 2011 at approx 11pm. I arrive at the police station where I make a report, they take down all the info and send me home with the report. Approx 1 hour later they call me and say my vehicle was recovered in a nearby city and they gave me the number to that police station. So I hurry to call them but of course they were closed until 8am. At 8am I call them they said bring my ID and insurance info to recover the vehicle. I go down there and ask questions but they told me they weren't allowed to disclose any information about who, what, were, or when the incident occurred because of confidentiality. They told me I would have to pay the towing and storage fee to recover my car from the impound. So I left and went to the impound paid $218.00 to discover that my vehicle had been totaled. So I had it towed to my house where I called the insurance company to report this. After I reported this incident they took a recorded statement and gave me a claim number. I waited for 2days for my adjuster to call me back and he never did. about 2 weeks later my adjuster calls and leaves me a message saying he needed another recorded statement and to call him back. I call back and got his voice mail. I spoke to one of his colleagues and they said they would send him and his manager a memo to call me back..well that never happened. 1 week after that I get a packet in the mail asking for my cell phone records, keys to the vehicle, and a notarized affidavit. I sent these things back and then a detective from the insurance company calls me and said there were red flags and he needed to get a video recorded statement. I agreed and went to give the statement. A few days later a detective from the police department where my car was recovered from calls me and tells me that my youngest son's father was with some friends at a nightclub were a drive-by shooting occurred and my son's father wasn't shot but the young man he was with was and as a result of them trying to escape the scene my car was crashed. As they arrived to the scene and asked questions about what happened my son's father would not admit he was driving the vehicle, and because they didn't actually see him driving or pull him over they could not prosecute. The detective asked me did I know anything about this incident and I replied hell no! The night of the incident my son's father had came to my house around 3am but never mentioned anything of course because he knows I would have tried to kill him. He also knows I would have been pissed because I never let him drive my car for the 3 years that I have known him, he has never had a license. She ask me was it ok to list him as a suspect and I told her Yes! I let her know that he did not have permission to drive my car under any circumstances. The very next day the detective from the insurance company called me and ask me what was my son's father name and what where the numbers that where called on my cell phone records. He asked why did he call me at 2:54am, I explained he wanted to let me know he was on his way over which wasn't out of the ordinary for him to do. So then the detective tells me my story stinks and I need to withdraw my claim because on my interview I didn't disclose that my boyfriend had come to my house. I told him why did I need to disclose who was sleeping in my bed if it had nothing to do with my car. I mean we know now he had something to do with it but I didn't know then. He told me the police detective also had the keys to my car which was a lie. It clearly states on the impound record that they had no keys. Not to mention the car has broken locks and loose wires I guess he didn't read that part of the report. He also told me I was trying to cover for my son's dad to get the car covered. I told him he could arrest him for GTA for all I care. My car was stolen and no matter who stole it I'm the victim and of course I want my car covered. He then said he was denying the claim and sending the case to the Department of Insurance to see if fraud was committed. Im beyond frustrated because I have nothing to do with what my son's dad did.
