ah yes, i wanted to talk about dan and ares and the couch:

the lover

✧ ah, ares truly is a contradiction to his own name. soft-spoken and polite, he'd wouldn't purposely go out of his way to cause conflict. yet his sister, jayme, finds his optimistic view of life and love to be an opening for hurt. oh the pains of being a pure heart. ares's naturally indecisive nature would leave him to ask the question of what others would want rather than taking a moment to ask himself what he wants. sometimes going with the flow has it's own detriments.

the realist

✧ dan has always had a callous view of romance. modern love to dan is simply transaction at best, utilizing favors as a way to get what she wants but that behavior begins somewhere. as we know, she doesn't have the best relationship with her mother, but her father is someone she truly looks up to. so to see him deal with his own conflicts of being split between his daughter and wife terrifies dan because to be in love is to lose agency. she is sure about many things, but this is one concept she's not fully on board just yet.

the aftermath

✧ in their last scene together, there was a lot of back and forth between the dialogue. on the one hand you can see where ares is coaxing dan to take the lead and make the decision, whereas dan expresses how these conflicting feelings are a bit of a mindwinder and in the final moments of vulnerability, dan finally gives into those feelings of desire. but as atlas has mentioned, sometimes, we're the obstacle. dan is self-assured, rarely making a mistake unless it's intentionally to piss someone off, almost a goad like you truly have nothing over her. but to enter something she has no knowledge about? terrifying. meanwhile ares could wait out a response to a carefully crafted text, but how long could that be? one thing is for certain and that is the ball is completely in dan's court.
