While I don’t like the downer ending that maintains the dominance of the Terran Empire (like so much mirror universe beta content outside of the First Splinter timeline does, making it feel incredibly stagnant); this comic is extremely fascinating and I love the take on Mirror Khan. His ego remains in full force but his intellectualism is a stronger driving force. He is compassionate, even if imperfectly so. Mirror Kirk also gets some character depth he has nowhere else. Really good stuff

Guess Kirk’s past is equally traumatic in all universes...

I quite liked how this comic presented the events after “Mirror, Mirror”. Better than versions where Spock simply gets rid of Kirk to reform the Empire. Also, mirror!Khan is really interesting and ambiguous: savior, tyrant, or both?

The author is J.M.DeMatteis. He also wrote the spirk-tastic “A Thousand Deaths”, which would explain the strong homoerotic tension between Kirk/Spock and Kirk/Khan here.

After High Chancellor Spock is killed for trying to make reforms, leaving the Terran Empire vulnerable to the rising aggressive forces of the Klingon-Cardassian Alliance, La'an Noonien-Singh seeks refuge on the ISS Enterprise under the false identity of Doctor Carmen Cho.

With the help of an unlikely ally, the Kelpien rebel leader Saru, La'an and the crew of the Enterprise start a mutiny, bringing the ship under their control in hope to find a way to flee their barbaric universe while the war against the Alliance spreads across the crumbling ruins of the Terran Empire.

Carrying Spock's offspring and the remains of his katra, La'an must face the dangerous path to cross universes into an unknown future in order to save her child and what is left of the man she loved.

Five Fake Dates Jim Had And One That Was Real

1.The first time was at the academy with Gaila when she was trying to avoid her mother marrying her off. 

“Please, Jim, you’ve got to help me,” she begged. “I can’t stand the sight of Roi and he’s loathsome. I’ll make it up to you.” 

She batted her eyelashes at him and Jim smiled. 

“Of course I’ll help you, Gaila,” he agreed. What are friends for?” 

“Benefits?” She suggested slyly, giving him a peck on the cheek. Jim grinned. 

2.Two months into his tenure as Captain, another situation arose which called for Jim to be a fake lover: this time with his First Officer. 

“So tell me again why Uhura can’t do this?” He inquired, standing awkwardly close to Spock who looked just as awkward. Sure, they were on good terms now, but not THAT good. Jim really didn’t think this would be in any way believable. 

“Because of the rather complicated cultural customs of the Auronions,” Spock replied, stiffly. “Certain ranks can only marry certain genders and we calculated that this would be the most.....effective.....ruse.” 

“Okay, but let’s hope they aren’t a physically affectionate race, or the game is up,” Jim commented, glancing down at the rigidity of Spock’s posture and the careful foot wide gap he kept between himself and the captain. 

“They are not. I assure you.”

Was that a twitch of Spock’s lip? Jim couldn’t be sure, but he thought his first officer had cracked a smile. 

3.Fake relationship number three happened with Jim and Lieutenant Uhura. This one he was very leery about, and she had to continually remind him to keep up the act. 

“C’mon, Jim. You can do much better,” Uhura urged him, drawing him closer with a possessive arm as a too-interested looking native eyed him—with three eyes. 

“Sorry,” he apologized. “I keep thinking Spock’s gonna choke me out again if I’m not careful.” 

She snorted. “It’s not Spock you would need to worry about if you crossed the line. Anyway, he’s too level headed and logical to get worked up. He knows it’s for the good of our mission. Now, perk up and pretend you adore me.” 

“Yes, ma’am,” Jim said with a grin. Spock sure was one fortunate Vulcan, he thought. 

4.Bones was the next hapless victim of Jim’s streak of pretend spouses and by far the most vocal in his displeasure at the situation. They were both dressed to the nines to attend an elaborate diplomatic event, which was bad enough according to Leonard, but to have to pretend to get all cozy was not his idea of a fun evening. 

“What? You hate the thought of being with me that much? I’m hurt, Bones,” Jim said, feigning a wounded expression. 

Bones glowered, eyebrows unusually fierce. “I’m a Doctor, not an actor, Jim!” He declared. “No, I’m not ashamed to be seen with you, but you know this pretending to be in love thing ain’t my cup of tea.” 

“I know, and I appreciate you for saying yes,” Jim told him. “The media was ready to eat me alive over the whole mess with the supposed Carol scandal. They refuse to believe we were never together. This takes the scrutiny off of her, as well.” 

“Yeah.” Bones’s brow furrowed with worry for Carol. 

“That woman doesn’t deserve this, Jim. I’d do much crazier than this to help her. Just behave and don’t get too handsy.” 

“I’ll try not to, but you’re pretty hot in that dress uniform,” Jim said, eying his CMO appreciatively. Leonard turned red and rolled his eyes. 

“Thanks. I think,” he muttered. 

5.Faking it with Scotty was by far the most hilarious one of all. The engineer was surprisingly chill about it and had no trouble getting cozy with Jim and flirting ridiculously. Jim was having so much fun keeping it going and slinging engineering innuendos back and forth with his good friend that he forgot to be uptight about the treaty that hung in the balance. 

“You’re surprisingly good at this,” he told Scotty later as they shook hands with the beaming hosts after they had the treaty all signed and sealed. 

“Well, after I tried that whiskey you bribed me with, I felt like a proper performance was in order, Jim,” Scotty admitted, eyes twinkling at his captain. “I don’t know how you managed to acquire that stuff, but I’d put up with a lot worse for that. Not that you’re not excellent company on your own merits. The dialogue is quite enjoyable.”

“Thanks, Scotty,” Jim chuckled. “You’re the best.”

+1 The Enterprise crew was attending a welcome home celebration given by Starfleet after the conclusion of the five year mission. There was a lot of snacking, dancing, and buttering up of brass going on and Spock and Uhura were refreshing themselves with a drink while people watching. 

“Jim and Khan are certainly looking awfully cozy over there,” Nyota observed. “I never would have believed it if I hadn’t seen it with my own two eyes.”

“Nor I,” Spock agreed. “But the alternate universe version of Khan appears to be very amenable to Jim’s affections. They are extremely compatible, much to my surprise.”

Khan had his arm around Jim’s lower back and Jim was laughing at something he said, looking happier than he’d been in a long time. 

“Starfleet thanks you for your actions, Mr. Singh,” Admiral Barnett was saying. “It would have been quite a blow to lose all those souls on the Enterprise.”

“Indeed, Admiral,” Khan agreed. “Your captain pulled off quite the rescue when I should have died.”

“That’s Jim for,” Richard nodded, looking at the captain fondly. “Still don’t believe in no win scenarios, Kirk?”

“No, Sir,” Jim confirmed with a grin. “And this one worked out really well. Thanks for giving him a chance to tell his story. “

When the Admiral had moved on, Jim turned back to his augment. 

“What do you think so far?” he asked.

Khan’s blue eyes gleamed and he gave Jim a very approving once over that made the Captain blush.

“I think that you look extremely enticing in dress uniform, Jim,” he answered. “The party is excellent, but all I can see is you.”

Jim’s face got even redder.

“Smooth talker as ever, Khan,” he managed. “I might have to ask you to escort me outside for a breath of fresh air. You’re looking too damn fine in that suit.”

He winked at his partner and Khan promptly took him by the hand and headed for the door.

“Dammit, Jim!” muttered Bones, watching them leave. “Worse than high schoolers, those two.”

He couldn’t help but smile though, glad that Jim wouldn’t have to get fake dates anymore.

I love reading! 📖📚📖 We attended a fabulous author event at The Ripped Bodice in Culver City to see Nalani Singh, fabulous and prolific ~ NYT bestselling author of paranormal romance and thrillers. She is very entertaining and engaging!

This polish was THE choice based on the polish name alone! The maker description reads multichrome pigments that in indirect light, help this polish travel from a cool minty teal to a deep lavender. Flecks of unicorn flakes shift in a rainbow of colors that dance among the colorful base. In brighter light, micro holo flakes sparkle, while deeper hues of magenta and blue come out to play.

This Polish Pickup polish was offered in March 2018 for the Books theme. The maker was giving a nod to the books she snuck away from her grandma as a teen and read, Bodice Rippers. At the end of the day, when that beloved book with racy cover gets placed in the nightstand, the pages worn and dog eared, those women thank Harlequin and Silhouette for the tales of intrigue romance, and of course, lust.

The formula on this polish was perfect with two easy coats. Stamping reveals my love of books and the new addition in our household - kittens!

mirror ‘verse Kirk/La’an AU (I am sorry to Marlena, but this is a snw AU, and therefore I decided that the Tantalus field doesn’t exist/Kirk never finds it, or finds it later after he consolidates his power)

La’an is actually respected and comes from a very powerful family, and as a security chief she’s extremely feared

when Kirk gets transferred to the Enterprise that is still under the command of Captain Pike, Kirk sees his chance because he sees that La’an is attracted to him (that he is attracted to her is just a bonus at the beginning; also La’an has a higher rank at the beginning), and he uses her to solidify his own faction. But he starts to respect her and their cooperation becomes more equal, and they make a pretty dangerous couple. Both kill to save the other because they start to be targeted.

And eventually when they know that most of the ship would stand behind them - and they convince Spock to change his loyalties - they kill Pike, and Kirk becomes the captain and La’an his right hand. Spock is still the XO, but La’an is above him.

(Una obviously never joined Starfleet. The Illyrians try to stay away from humans, but some of them are used as slaves because of their powers.)
