her ex specifically paid for spyware called spybubble, a nasty little program that works once a phone is rebooted. After that it monitors all outgoing texts, calls, and even shows contact info for who those msgs or calls are going to. It monitors websites visited, ur bookmarks, ur pictures, & ur location data. It also doesn't even show on the app menus, it's not visible unless u search in ur phones manage applications menu, it's named Radio in that list (Radioservice, Radiophoto, Radiocontact are just a few examples of the name the spyware uses). It's sold by F-Secure under the guise of being for "safety" but it's most definitely stalkerware.

There's really two types of spyware: nuisanceware that's usually bundled with other legitimate apps. This one isn't super dangerous, it's as the name describes a nuisance since it mostly data gathers in the background. The second type is stalkerware, which is way worse. Spybubble & any program that does the same thing is stalkerware.

A giveaway it might be downloaded on an android device is a setting that allows apps to be downloaded and installed outside of the official play store. If enabled, this may indicate tampering & jailbreaking without consent. not every form of spyware and stalkerware requires a jailbroken device, though.

iOS devices that aren't jailbroken are generally harder to install malware on unless an exploit for a zero-day or unpatched vulnerability is used but the same malware principles apply - with the right tool, exploit, or software, ur phone could be compromised with physical access or remotely.

When spyware is removed, especially stalkerware, some operators will receive an alert warning them that the device has been cleaned up. Should the flow of your information suddenly stop, this would be another clear sign to the stalker that the software has been removed.

If u feel like ur in danger do not immediately remove the software. Go to the police and fill out a report for stalking, we all know cops aren't exactly go getters when it comes to stalking tho but it helps to have a legal record of this going on. After you've done that depending on what they ask to do with the phone you'll probably be clear to remove the software or have someone else remove it. The pricier option is to buy a new phone if ur feeling afraid tho it may be the safest option. It may also be the only option u have since some forms of stalkerware survive superficial removal/factory resets.

This is malicious & deranged tho and beyond an invasion of privacy. If u think someone dangerous installed it do not remove the program, it could endanger ur well being. if u can, just get a new phone & make sure ur never leaving it unattended around anyone sketchy and do not ever open links sent in sms/email from numbers u do not have saved. sometimes stalkerware will be sent by the stalker in a msg, so never ever open links no matter how personal the msg is if it's from someone like an ex u have bad history with, former friends u fell out with, parental figures u don't have a good relationship with, ect.

also I have to fix a friend's phone bc her ex installed spyware as a general warning if someone who u don't trust is messing around on ur phone or laptop check if u have apps u didn't install or programs on u didn't download, most times they look innocuous like a fitness app or calculator or clones of other programs. if it's more sophisticated tho u gotta take that shit to get it removed bc its dangerous for someone to be able to track u, see what ur doing, or even listen to ur calls
