places at @dashcon-two to cry, rated
the dealer's room: a genuinely decent place for a cry. loses points for volume level. gains points for beautiful artwork and captive audience of vendors to comfort you. 8/10
at @raccoonmilf's rabies and raccoon education panel: listening to a passionate raccoon biologist educate you about rabies and the critically endangered pygmy raccoon while spread-eagled and wearing a bright blue beehive wig is honestly an iconic location for a cry. bonus points added for the possibility of roleplaying as a rabid raccoon during your mental breakdown. 9.5/10
at @the-muppet-joker's panel: don't. he will see it as a sign of weakness and smite you instantly with his Joker Sword. 1/10, bonus point for instant obliteration
in the ballpit: no bodily fluids were allowed in the ballpit. tears possibly included. $1000 CAD fine. 0/10
in the presence of a volunteer or organizer: no notes. 10/10
at horse plinko: hard to cry while throwing a horse. N/A
in the duel pit: @strange-aeons will kill you. 7/10
sitting and people watching: literally any attendee would stop and check on you. good and bad thing. 9.8/10
closing ceremony: unavoidable. surrounded by other crying people. 11/10

Dashcon 2 was everything I hoped it would be. Genuinely one of the friendliest cons I’ve ever been to. The organizers did a great job and all the attendees were so approachable and fun. It really felt like you could just turn around in line and have a great conversation with anyone there.
Some highlight memories for me
1. getting a photo with muppet joker and being assured that Kermit was clean when they handed him to me to hold
2. Singing happy birthday to one of the organizers mom. And then the closing ceremonies ending with singing “we are the champions”
3. The whole raccoon rabies panel! Just so good, Lochlan was hilarious and educational!
4. The duel and then the immediate segue into man or muppet as a eulogy
5. Writing in the discord “anyone want to fight me in the pit” and not two minutes later fighting someone (very poorly, in said pit)
6. The crow exchange while chaotic was excellent and made me feel so nostalgic for trading trinkets with my friends in middle school
7. Was really cool to meet Strange! Though I was def a bit awkward 😅 I really loved her panel too! Internet archeology is so fascinating and as someone who loves to goes down research rabbit holes it scratched an itch for me!
8. The ballpit lifeguard shirts! Excellent no notes, actually all the volunteers were so on point and did a great job
9. The fact they had free water bottles! Even though they ran out the fact they were there in the first place!! Awesome!!
10. Literally just every random conversation I had while waiting in panel lines! Including seeing a genuine Garfield eats cup that Strange gave to someone!
This post is not coherent and I’m def still in a daze about the whole thing but honestly just positive thoughts all around from it. I really hope they consider doing another one!

IT WAS SUPER FUN! I got to go hang out for an entire day in Toronto with a bunch of chronically online people and buy a LOT of stuff from the artist alley help my wallet is dying! Here are a few of the photos I have
Tumblr media
I got to go in the ballpit!!!!!! It was just an inflatable pool filled with balls but honestly I think thats perfect for being a successor to the dashcon ballpit
Tumblr media
I got a photo with the beautiful @raccoonmilf who was cosplaying the queen of the dashcon ballpit and also did a panel on rabies and raccoons (which I unfortunately couldnt go to but from what i've seen it was AWESOME)
Tumblr media
AND I MET THE CROAKER who I may or may not be siblings with now also btw @the-muppet-joker idk if you saw the ask but my (our?) father responded "should've been on four feet" to your message of look at me standing on my own two feet
But yeah I had a ton of fun! I also got photos with a TON of cosplayers (OMG THE COSPLAYS WERE AMAZING) and attended the duel (#justiceforthecroaker)!!!! Also if anyone who went to dashcon 2 sees this, I was the kid with the frog headband!

Janus and Virgil - Favorite childhood memory?
"Oh well that time I discovered the still alive clone of Mary Shelley must definitely be up there" janus immediately snarked out "As well as my short but quite personality building escapade with Liza Minelli that one ti-"
"Dude Why are you bullshitting" Virgil, who was sitting next to him, asked.
"Don't cut me off. That's rude. Did your manners get lost along with your parents"
Virgil parsed his lips to respond before letting up into a laugh that he tried to conceal "I'm just wondering why you're stalling for time or can you not be arsed. Just say some memory......Like the uhh cat from Cats"
"Nice broadway reference" Jan flicked one his friend's emo bangs.
"I trieddd"
"But yes, just like any normal person I have a favorite childhood memory pre planned. That's how you can tell if someone is well adjusted"
The emo gave him a silent blare for a moment before continuing "Well my favorite memory is that time this uh couple wanted to adopt me-"
"As usual. The couples proper loved him"
"Whatever. But uh I didn't want to get adopted so I bit one of them and the lady got Rabies! I didn't have rabies so the doctors have no idea how it happened but it did and it meant I didn't get adopted. It was kind of awesome-"
Janus leant his head against his hand "Really? That is your favorite memory. Well my dear I did not think you were that morbid"
Virgil rolled his eyes "My favorite part was uhh afterwards when I had been declared officially rabies free and I got to uhhhh returnbackandseeyou" He mumbled the last part with immense speed.
"What was that my cheeky darling?" Janus had a shit eating smirk on his lips.
"I got to return back to the orphanage and uhh see your ugly fucking face or something"
"My ugly fucking face" His smile widened as he repeated it.
He pulled at his hoodie sleeve to have a reason to avert his eyes "You were so happy to see me and that memory has always stuck with me......Okay that was too bloody sappy, I need to go listen to Gerard Way screaming into my air to level that out"
"Ah-"
"AND THAT BEING MY FAVORITE MEMORY HAS NOTHING TO DO WITH US HAVING OUR PHASE OF PLAYING BOYFRIEND GIRLFRIEND AROUND THAT SAME TIME"
Janus took a very slow blink before replying "Those things weren't even connected in my mind"
Virgil's cheeks were as red as christmastree balls "Me neither. Just uh wanted to clarify. Dude" He made some vague hand gestures before settling on fiddling with the loose bits of his nail polish.
"Hmmm...Well after thinking I believe my favorite memory was our class going to see Hedda Gabler live in 9th grade. It really opened my eyes to the classics. widened my horizons if you well. It was around that same time I got into Virginia Woolf, Jekyll and Hyde, Cabaret, plays in general. basically all of the building blocks for my charismatic and charming personality that isn't pretentious at all"
Janus sent you a nice wide smile right after finishing speaking but was caught off guard as Virgil hit him with a pillow.
"Here I go being bloody sappy and your memory is some school thing. You fucking nerd" Virgil said. "Muppet-nerd-fuck-dummy"
"At least my fashion sense has evolved since then" He teased before flicking the other man's bangs again to which Virgil hit him with the pillow once more knocking his beanie right off.
"At least I kept growing past 9th grade!"
"At least I've never had to buy a guitar I couldn't play solely to have it in my room to seem cooler. Whoopsie-doo bitch darling"
"At least I was sometimes at risk of actually being adopted,,,,,,,you daft fuck"
This teasing continued for 5 more minutes before they continued (play) arguing for another few minutes about who had won before finally moving on with the rest of their day.
Also this ask inspired me to draw Jan and Viv as kids

30, 17, and 25 for Maverick; 10, 7, and 2 for Nancy!
WOOOO YESS
Starting off with the worst man you've ever met Maverick here:
30. Do they smell like anything notable?
For him, I'd figure he'd smell a bit like the cigarettes/cigars he's typically seen smoking; musty with a hint of cedar. Although, I imagine him using some kind of cologne semi-regularly, perhaps one that smells of leather? Nothing that smells much like wood, he doesn't like the association most wooden-based scents have with his early life.
17. How did they spend their summers/free time as a child?
I imagine that during vacations within the long, arduous summer months, his parents never thought too much about ensuring he socialized with other kids his age, and so they'd drag him along with them to the lakeside vacation home where his father liked to spend those months away hunting for sport while his mother tried to make the most of her time away from the bustling city and her husband being occupied with matters that didn't concern her for the most part. Maverick would usually just entertain himself along the lakeshore, poking around with a stick at the various flora and fauna—usually skewering whatever he found of the latter when his mother wasn't watching.
Something Maverick also did frequently was bring a mason jar out with him to the lake, scanning around for bugs or any other creepy crawly he could pick up and encase to examine. Sometimes he'd let them go afterwards, other times he'd attempt some pseudo dissection of whatever insect he caught in his little glass prison. In some instances, he'd put two live animals in at the same time to see what would happen. Most of the time, one would end up killing and eating the other, yet it fascinated him all the same. When he wasn't terrorizing whatever small critters he stumbled upon, he'd reside to reading on his own, feeding into his ever-growing love for literature that would continue to follow into adulthood.
25. How good/bad is their hearing? What about their eyesight?
His hearing is generally okay, though probably has deteriorated a bit with age. Same deal with eyesight, and I imagine he employs the use of reading glasses from time to time.
AND NOW Nancy, everyone's fav sad girl muppet moth xoxo
10. If they wear jewelry, what kind? Do they prefer silver or gold? Do they have a favorite gem?
Nancy isn't the type to accessorize a bunch, though I'd like to think she'll sometimes wear jewelry whenever she's gifted with any. For instance, during college, Felicity gave her a gold necklace for her birthday that had a lil ruby pendant—Nancy's birthstone. In turn, Nancy ended up wearing it almost everyday up until around the time she and Felicity started to gradually drift apart and Nancy's initial insecurities surrounding her own future and success in comparison to her friend's shifted towards envy.
7. Favorite Animal? Why?
Had the sudden thought of Nancy really, really liking opossums for whatever reason and I just think that's very characteristic of her to love what would be considered an unorthodox animal to find cute by most. Like when she was really little, she’d look around her father’s old shed, and once came across this full grown opossum that she then proceeded to take and bring inside, much to Elena’s eventual horror.
Little Nancy when her mother comes home and, completely astonished, asks her why on God’s EARTH she thought to bring in a possibly rabies-infested animal as the latter stumbles upon her running a bath for it:
Tumblr media
2. What sort of music would they like? Have you thought about what genres or bands do they lean towards? Do they have a favorite song?
In canon, Nancy would have a preference for softer, orchestral music—a record she can put on while she's on her own, either writing or even during a lowkey read if she's feeling particularly antsy. I can see her really liking music by Leo Reisman and his orchestra, particularly stuff ranging from the late 1920s to the early 40s. In terms of singers, she'd probably be a fan of Elizabeth Welch, especially for her song "The Girl I Knew" (1935).
If this were the 21st century, Nancy would 1000% be a Mitski and even Crane Wives fan for Reasons.

WK4 - VAMPIRE
You ever wonder what lurks in the dark outside? What terrifying creature will reveal itself? Maybe you might venture in a cave, you’re kinda crazy if you do. You see a lone bat hanging upside down on the ceiling. It might get startled at first, but you think, “a bat can’t be that bad right?”. Then it transforms into a mythical creature and that has a sudden urge to drink your blood. In this blog, the backstory of these furry creatures known as bats might just have more to them that meets the eye.
Vampires can date back to ancient civilizations, but the folklore for the modern vampire originated in Central Europe, particularly in Transylvania. in the early 18th century. Vampires postdates witch-hunts, werewolf trials, and even the demon-haunted Puritans. The concept of the vampire as an undead creature inflicting harm originated in Eastern Europe, specifically in Bulgaria, a thousand years ago. The Mesopotamians, Hebrews, ancient Greeks, and Romans all had tales of blood-drinking spirits, demonic entities that may have been precursors to modern vampires. In times of disease, stories of walking corpses that spread plague and drank the blood of the living were popular. Vampires became more popular when Bram Stokers’ Dracula became a benchmark for modern descriptions of vampires, but we’ll save that for the pop culture section… Anyway, some say the characteristics associated with vampires can be traced back to diseases such as porphyia, tuberculosis, pellagra, and rabies. In modern times, vampires have been used to explore themes such as identity, being an outsider, and toxic relationships.
Stories of Vampire date back to hundreds of years ago, listen to this…
“In September 1591 a well-heeled (ahem) shoemaker named Weinrichius cut his own throat. Weinrichius was buried the day after his death and it wasn’t long before his ghost was spotted walking around the town. The dead shoemaker was also reportedly getting into bed with people at night and gripping their arms and legs so firmly that he left bruises in the shape of fingers on their bodies.
After about seven months, the local people, convinced they had a vampire on their hands, exhumed Weinrichius’s body and found that it looked fresh and complete, with the skin tight ‘like a drum’. There was a rose-shaped mole on his foot which was suspected of being a witch’s mark. The body was taken out and reburied under some gallows.
However, when the undead Weinrichius continued to terrorise the town, the body was brought up again and dismembered. Those who did the butchering remarked that his heart looked ‘as good as that of a freshly slaughtered calf’. Next, all the bits of the bootmaker were burnt, and the ashes were cast into the river.”
Again, don’t know if that’s real, but sounds convincing enough to me, I guess!
Tumblr media
You know, out of all the media I could have picked, I picked Count Von Count from Sesame Street. Anyway, Count von Count, often referred to simply as “The Count,” is a beloved character from the children’s television show Sesame Street. He is a friendly, vampire-like puppet who has a passion for counting everything he sees, from objects to actions. His character is a playful parody of the traditional vampire, but instead of drinking blood, he is obsessed with numbers. Every time he finishes counting, he typically laughs in a signature thunderous manner, followed by a flash of lightning. The Count helps teach children basic math concepts, especially counting and number recognition. Since then, he’s been one of the main characters on the show, continuing to help children learn their numbers.
Tumblr media
In his debut scene, the Count counted Ernie's pyramid of blocks, accidentally taking it apart, and then put it back together again. The Count is a friendly vampire Muppet who parodies Bela Lugosi's portrayal of Count Dracula. He was created by Norman Stiles, who also wrote the first script for the character.
Count von Count was first introduced to Sesame Street in 1972, and his distinctive look, with fangs, a monocle, and a cape, is reminiscent of the classic depiction of Dracula. However, his character is entirely child-friendly, using his love of counting to help young viewers develop an appreciation for numbers and mathematics. The Count is voiced by puppeteer Jerry Nelson, who performed the character for over 40 years until his passing in 2012. Since then, Matt Vogel has taken over the role. The Count often interacts with other Sesame Street characters, using his counting skills in a variety of humorous and educational ways. He also has a fondness for things like counting bats, thunder, or anything he can find in his surroundings. Sometimes, his counting obsession leads him into amusing situations, like counting when it’s unnecessary or at inappropriate times. In addition to his iconic laugh, “Ah ah ah!”,
The Count has a signature song called “The Song of the Count,” where he joyfully sings about his love for numbers. His character has become an enduring part of the Sesame Street cast, helping children learn through fun and repetition. His personality is friendly, slightly eccentric, and a little obsessive in a charming way, making him a fan favorite.
He does look a little bit uncanny in the picture I picked.
Tumblr media
And finally we come to this piece of pop culture.
Dracula is a movie about Count Dracula, a 15th-century prince, who is condemned to live off the blood of the living for eternity. Young lawyer Jonathan Harker is sent to Dracula’s castle to finalize a land deal, but when the Count sees a photo of Harker’s fiancée, the spitting image of his dead wife, he imprisons him and sets off for London to track her down.
Tumblr media
Francis Ford Coppola's 1992 film "Bram Stoker's Dracula" presents a more romanticized version of the original Bram Stoker novel. The movie delves deeper into the backstory of Count Dracula, emphasizing his tragic love and eternal quest for atonement, while still largely following the novel's plot. The film portrays Vlad Dracula, a Romanian knight, in 1462 as he battles the Ottoman Turks for his country. After a victorious battle, he returns home to find that his wife, Elisabeta, has taken her own life upon hearing false rumors of his death. Overcome with grief, Dracula renounces God and vows to become a vampire to escape his sorrow and live forever.
Centuries later, in 1897, a young English solicitor named Jonathan Harker travels to Transylvania to assist Dracula in purchasing London real estate. Harker soon discovers that Dracula is a supernatural being in his castle, but it is too late… Dracula abandons him and sets sail for London. In England, Dracula becomes fixated on Mina Murray, Harker’s fiancée, who bears a striking resemblance to his lost love, Elisabeta. Dracula attacks Mina's friend Lucy Westenra and pursues her. When Lucy succumbs to Dracula's spell and becomes a vampire, Professor Van Helsing, Dr. Seward, and her fiancé must locate and eliminate Lucy.
As Dracula draws closer to Mina, she falls under his spell and eventually consumes his blood, creating a bond between them. Meanwhile, Jonathan manages to escape from Dracula's castle and returns to London. Alongside Van Helsing, Dr. Seward, and the other men, he leads a pursuit to trace Dracula back to his castle in Transylvania. In the climactic conclusion, they confront Dracula at his castle. Mina, torn between her love for Jonathan and her connection to Dracula, ultimately aids the group in ending Dracula’s reign. In a dramatic and emotional ending, Dracula is vanquished, and he is finally reunited with Elisabeta in death, finding redemption.
youtube
This trailer basically sums up what the movie is about. This movie is different than the novel it’s based on, which is usually the case with novels made into movies.

To close this post off, vampires were always something I didn’t really pay much attention to. It’s an interesting concept, I’ll see that much. But when it comes to being an interest to me, I never really saw anything in it. Now vampires are obviously not real. I think there are some psychopaths out there that probably drink blood. I remember I read the book Dracula in freshmen year of High school and I enjoyed it for the most part, but after that, I didn’t really take any interest in vampires. But man, do I love mythical creatures. I hope there is an upcoming vampire movie that will change my mind, because I’d really love to explore this concept more. I’ve always known vampires to be creatures that just suck blood and turn into bats. I watched Hotel Translyvania once, I liked it.
The next time you see a bat roaming the night, just know that they might be in desperate need to quench their thirst.

Some other facts for the history books:
1. The muppet joker's panel was a puppet show re-enactment of his magnum opus (Kermit x joker bible)
2. Other tumblr memes I saw cosplays of: Gandalf big naturals, weed smoking gfs, Goncharov, Color of the sky
3. Three couples allegedly got engaged in the ball pit. Two stood up and identified themselves during closing ceremonies but the third is still a bit of a mystery
4. Robespierre objected to us having a ball pit monarch and tried to behead test her for rabies. It's okay I chased him off with my big scary blade
5. The crow exchange (where people trade little trinkets and shinies) was wildly popular. Excellent hauls were acquired
6. There was an insane heat wave in Toronto that weekend and everyone who had photoshoots in the courtyard is so brave and powerful holy shit
i really enjoy that i’m experiencing dashcon 2 in the same way that my forefathers experienced the original dashcon: though sporadic bursts in chaotic photos. i have no damn clue what’s going on except the ball pit is tiny, strange aeons won the duel and ousted the muppet joker, there was a live in person kung pow penis, and someone cosplayed the children’s hospital
