he might seem suave and debonair to any outsider that doesn’t really know him but rafe’s actually very shy. the first time he meets sofia’s family — he made sure to bring sofia’s mother’s a bouquet of her favorite flowers and her father a bottle of the most expensive liquor that he could find — wanting to make a good first impression on them. he spent the whole time fidgeting nervously with his tie; until sofia reached beneath the table and rested a comforting hand on his thigh.

he wants a big family (though this doesn’t come as a to surprise to sofia.) he’s always talked about how he was a little bit jealous of how close she is to her family and how he wished his could’ve been like that. he promised that whenever they have a family of their own, he would make up for everything he didn’t get to experience with his own father.

it’s easy for him to get jealous. how could he not when he has a fiancé as beautiful as she is? he’s a bit territorial, but not to the point of toxicity — just enough to where if he would catch a guy’s eyes wandering on her, he would immediately make it known that she was taken and his.

he’s loves to cuddle. going to bed is his favorite thing, because at the end of the day, they get to leave all of their problems behind them and just be in the moment of content with each other. he loves holding her, feeling the weight of her body against his, hearing the softness of her breathing as she sleeps.

she’s overprotective of him. even when they were only hooking up, when she would hear people talking shit about him she would immediately step in his defense. she’s always been quiet but the one thing that takes her out of her shell is speaking up for the people that she loves.

she loves how affectionate he is. whether it’s his hand splayed over hers with his thumb caressing over the skin of her knuckles or it’s his outstretched hand resting against the small of her back—he was always seeking her out for contact. (and it’s not as if it wasn’t reciprocated because sofia’s hand always sought refuge on rafe’s arm or on his knee; giving it an affectionate squeeze and he would give her a soft smile as they stared at each other oblivious to the world that surrounded them.)

she was nervous the first time they had sex; she worried that she would be too inexperienced to be with someone like rafe cameron. but she was surprised to see that his reputation superseded him. he was equally as nervous as she was — she still remembers the deep blush curling around his ears and flushing his cheeks when she shrugged out of her bra and laid naked underneath him.

I know this is kinda the bare minimum in depicting systemic bigotry seriously in art but. I really do love how oz isn’t depicted as a disgusting man who hates every woman he sees.

he loves his mother, his female colleagues, he’s rather respectful to the women around in general, he’s normal about women. Despite being a gangster, he doesn’t go out of his way to make women or any minority for that matter uncomfortable around him. And yet he still told Sofia's father about the fact she talked to that reporter.

Despite knowing this wouldn’t do her any good, he still tattled. He still threw a woman under the bus in order to get ahead in this world. He still partook in systematic abuse toward women by that simple act. And he still takes true responsibility for his actions! He may say sorry for what he did but he won’t not do it again so he could get ahead!

That’s the problem with systemic bigotry at its core. It doesn’t matter if you don’t personally hate women. The fact that you are willing to hurt a woman in order to get power in your life is bigotry no matter how you twist it. You are using systemic sexism to make sure you succeed in life and no amount of loving your mother or the sex workers around you will absolve you of the fact you’ve done this multiple times!

ᯓ🌹˖° Gabriel ‘Diablo’ de la Rosa

SYNPOSIS

After the sudden disappearance of his sister, the youngest (and only) son of the de la Rosa family packed up everything left in his life and shoved it all into a run down camper van— all in a last ditch effort to find out what really happened to her.

On his travels as a bum I mean unlicensed detective I mean private investigator, Gabriel takes up odd and odder jobs to keep gas in the tank. For himself and the van.

But, after getting involved with one too many forum ads involving cryptology for a quick buck, Gabriel unexpectedly finds a ‘career’ as a monster hunter. His reputation in the niche field precedes himself under the moniker of DIABLO.

Mostly thanks to his new roommate he picked up while on the road! … permanently … in his brain. Who knew having a devil on your shoulder actually meant having a parasitic tadpole of an alien burrowing into your mind-meat and trying to take over your body in its own desperate attempt at escape? 

THE TADPOLE … BUG … ALIEN THING.

An ATLAS experiment escapee. This wriggly little bastard is a cross between a bug and a fungi.

It takes over and absorbs bodies to inherit their capabilities and mannerisms. To strengthen & expand themselves! … also, unfortunately, can include more intrusive traits of the newly acquired host.

The thing acts like a shapeshifter and the hosts do not survive the assimilation. At least, they shouldn’t. This tadpole struck a deal with Gabriel: stay safe under ATLAS’ radar in this loser’s brain, and in turn, share its power with the twerp (and hopefully get more).

NOTES & TIDBITS

Tadpole’s pronouns are us/we/they/them <3 Gabriel’s are he/him, but he’s been unintentionally using the tadpole’s pronouns more often as of late …

Gabriel’s personality: Reserved. Quiet and Tired. Probably has Anger Issues.

Tadpole’s personality: Shithead Supreme. Hedonistic in the worst ways imaginable. An overconfident showboat with biiiiig bravado.
