the new discord update is something i'm...disappointed about. yeahhh disappointed is apt. i think things like the launchpad and swipe gestures are neat ideas in theory, but their execution leaves much to be desired. not having gestures be a toggle is an accessibility nightmare, for one. the gesture responses are also too finicky. not smooth at all and often responding even when there's a swipe in a different direction. lagging significantly as well. discord's claims of improving load times fall flat when so many people are complaining about even longer load times.
complaints and observations and general ranting below the cut along with a list of hopefully helpful settings and alternatives for those who need it.
i feel like a lot of discord's issues with their updates in the past year or so could be negated--or at least abated--by expanding their pool of beta testers, testing for longer lengths of time, and (crucially) refining changes more before rolling them out. like...super basic shit they're just not doing to the extent they need to be doing them.
(on that note...discord, you literally have the email of every user, would it kill you to send out a few more surveys asking your userbase what possible new features sound good to them? i know a lot of people have discord email stuff turned off but can you at least try?! hell, if there was an option to opt in to email surveys and i thought they'd actually listen to responses they got, i'd turn it on out of sheer desperation at this point.)
also--and i know this is some extra work for them to do, and they seem to really hate that--i think that when such major changes are rolled out they should 1) be rolled out a bit slower/in smaller chunks and 2) at least SOME of the features should reasonably have a toggle to keep the old settings (*cough* GESTURES *cough*). their motive for this doesn't even have to be out of the good of their hearts! like, fuck telemetrics, but if they're gonna have them in their app anyways at least use telemetrics to like, gauge how many people are using these hypothetical toggles so you have another way to judge how users are responding. there! free idea! please use it.
anyways, i want to end on something helpful so here are a few bits of info about the updates i've discovered messing around, and also ways (or. well. A Way) to change them back if you have too much trouble adjusting. i'm sure plenty of people have noticed these things already, but i thought i'd compile them for those who want it all in one place or who haven't had the time or energy to mess with things in the app.
Settings > Accessibility > Reduced Motion: as far as i can tell, this does not seem to apply to the new transition animations in the app. oof, to say the least.
Messages > Add Friends > "Allow contacts to add me": many people were worried about this checkbox, but thankfully they seemed to have fixed the its-checked-automatically-and-doesn't-stay-unchecked thing. and, regardless, it doesn't actually change your app settings. if you already have Contact Sync disabled (Settings > Privacy & Safety > Find Your Friends > "Sync Contacts") checking this separate box will not suddenly enable it. however, if you have not disabled contact syncing then this checkbox will function as intended when you click the "Find friends" button below it.
Swipe-to-Reply: thankfully, you do not have to swipe to reply, the option to long press a message for a menu is still there. (for those wondering: swiping is nice accessibility for some and horrible accessibility for others, and should always be a toggle if you know what you're doing when making an app...*pointed stare into camera*). unfortunately, there's no way to turn swipe replies off that i've found.
Settings > Advanced > LaunchPad > "Full Screen Gesture": this claims to turn swipe replies off in exchange for using the gesture to activate the LaunchPad. however, after testing it out multiple times it does not actually turn them off and simply creates a gesture conflict that leaves both swipe replies and the LaunchPad more difficult to access.
Settings > Advanced > LaunchPad > "Right Edge Gesture": same issues as the first option with the additional difficulties of a more...sensitive touch response. forget "gesturing" if you so much as tap near the right edge of the screen it will attempt to pull out the LaunchPad. this right "edge" area also covers the reply button and settings menu toggles, by the way. so if you enabled this, good luck sending messages or turning the feature back off.
(did i mention these first two options also make it nearly impossible to swipe the left side channel and server lists open and closed? because they do.)
Settings > Advanced > LaunchPad > "Pull Tab": this is the option to choose if you want to keep the LaunchPad without gesture conflicts and shit navigation. it creates a tiny tab on the right edge of the screen for you to pull out the LaunchPad with, and you can adjust where the tab floats as well.
obviously, the final "Disabled" setting simply disabled the LaunchPad. Bye bye!
the fact that other color schemes for the app are behind a paywall is absolute bullshit by the way and i hate that there's no easy fix for that on mobile.
personally, i like that the vertical server list is here to stay and that DMs are now in a separate place, as this is a bit more similar to the desktop version where servers are vertically listed and DMs are in a different place (albeit still along the left edge).
before you ask, no there's no setting to get the old color scheme and layout back...UNLESS--!!!
(FOR ANDROID USERS ONLY; RIP EVERYONE ELSE.) if discord has become less accessible for you or you simply don't vibe with any of the shit currently going on, then you can download the previous version of the discord app through an APK file. first, disable auto-updates in google play. then uninstall discord from your phone. lastly, follow the instructions on this post that will help you download the necessary file from APKMirror (please note the recommended version is 206.16). do not use a different site, APKMirror is the safe one (well. safest. remember folks nothing online is 100% safe).
#note: i'm also experiencing those longer load times#but personally i think this is more due to the age of my phone and how behind it's hardware and software is than discord itself#and i'm noticing i at least haven't been constantly disconnected and reconnected like i was before the update...Yet.#ky speaks

Pre-CLAMP DAY Celebrations!
So, during COVID-times, Kodansha released a set of CLAMP Tarot Cards. Of course, I couldn't resist so I bought a book just to get these cards. Over just a few years, the website no longer features the images so I'm here to remedy that!

The Heroine

Upright: The Heroine is a symbol of unmitigated passion and inspiration. You leap headfirst into problems and situations because you have you have the confidence of will, to take them all on. When The Heroine appears you’re also being asked to tap into the Divine Feminine (regardless of your gender) and embody the spirit of this heroine to bolster your own energies and tackle any obstacle (inner or outer) standing in your way. Clear-eyed and full of energy The Heroine signals an exuberant start to a journey, where you must throw caution to the wind because the limitless power of love, for yourself and others, will keep you afloat.
Reversed: Upright The Heroine is a green light to leap before looking, reversed, not so much. You’re still at the beginning of a journey, but when The Heroine appears in reverse, you’re being asked to look at what you’re jumping into before leaping. Gather information, reflect on whether the leap will land you on solid ground or have you free falling into danger. In this position turn to the Divine Feminine to help you find the answer you seek. You have inspiration and the passion to see it through, just take an extra second to check in with yourself before jumping off the edge.
Friendship

Upright: When Friendship appears in a reading you’re asked to look to friends and (biological or found) family around you for inspiration, strength and understanding. Feeling unsure and rudderless, look outside yourself for answers to questions you may have been pondering – you may be surprised at the answers YOU reach after comparing notes with a trusted companion. Remember that leaning on others is not weakness. It can be a kindness to yourself to lift the biggest weights through cooperation, rather than carrying the load on your own. But also, if you are experiencing a time of happiness and Friendship appears it is a signal to share that happiness with those closest to you, they want to know and would be happy to hear you’re thriving.
Reversed: When Friendship appears in reverse it may allude to a time when you, or a trusted person, are mired in co-dependency and overprotectiveness. Have you felt like things are too difficult to handle on your own, and absolutely need the help of others? Friendship in reverses asks you to examine that feeling – you might find that you’re stronger than you think! Or if a friend or loved one has been leaning on you too much, Friendship in reverse asks you to examine whether or not you need to define boundaries in order to conserve your own energies. Friendship is a wonderful thing but empathy without boundaries can be toxic.
The Fool

Upright: In a reading, The Fool appears as a call to action for play! Be silly, do a cartwheel, laugh out loud at nothing at all. Things might have been very serious and dour in recent times, so the idea of being foolish could feel incongruous, but it’s through finding this levity that you can push back against the difficult times. The Fool is a green light to indulge in play and start manifesting the good times for yourself, you have that power within you.
Reversed: The Fool reverse acts as a warning, because the fool may be YOU! This is an indicator that there is a trickster in your life that maybe taking advantage of your current carefree attitude. Because while you’re distracted or stuck in play, someone else might be scooping up the opportunities meant for you. The Fool in reverse thus also asks you to get serious about plans that you may have only sketched out. Focus on that, draw your plans, success is waiting for you if you focus your will to achieve it.
The Soulbound

Upright: The Soulbound card is an indicator that someone has entered your life that is more than just a chance encounter. There is a cosmic significance in this, and in them. Mirror soul, twin flame, whatever you want to call it you’ve encountered someone you’re meant to learn from and grow with – even if only for a little while. And as unbelievable as it might be, that cosmic person might also be YOURSELF! Have you experienced a change where you feel like a different person? Reflect on who you were, who you are, and who you want to be – does each stage have something to teach you?
Reversed: When The Soulbound card appears in reverse it is asking, do you feel like you’re missing a piece and someone else will complete you? This can be dangerous because it means that you are convinced you’re not enough, or that you will remain fractured if that missing person can’t be found. The Soulbound in reverse might be asking you to strengthen the bond with your own soul. It’s by loving and caring for yourself, that your capacity for love will increase and act as a beacon for the people you’re meant to meet and aid you in your journey.
The Hero

Upright: When The Hero appears in a read, it asks you to reflect on your battle worn experience. You have faced innumerable challenges and are still here standing strong. Believe in that strength to help you through a potentially tumultuous time, because this is one of many fights yet to come. You got this! When this card appears it also asks you to tap into the Divine Masculine (regardless of your gender) to take action towards your goals. Fight for what you want, you deserve it, and have already started carving a path with each past victory.
Reversed: The Hero in reverse might mean that you have decided to take up a fight you don’t need to. Though this combative energy feels productive you might be fighting shadows, or worse yet, fighting yourself. Reflect on if winning this battle will bring you closer towards your goals or if it will just leave you exhausted, bloody and in need of healing after the fight.
The Witch

Upright: When The Witch appears in a reading it is a sign that you are entering a spiritually charged and intuitive time. The spiritual confidence of The Witch is not something that is gained over night. Just as a witch relies on their rituals, and practices to build their power, so must you start your own practices to bolster your energies. In this time, you might want to start meditation, yoga, dream journaling, or some other practice that allows you to listen to your inner voice. Cosmic energies are flowing around you and so it’s up to you to decipher their meaning. Because it’s in that deciphering that you’ll gain clarity to better walk your path.
Reversed: The Witch in reverse, alludes to the idea that your spiritual cognition is currently blocked or dampened. No, this isn’t because of a curse, or hex, but it can be because the world around you is chaotic and distracting. When this card appears in reverse it signifies that an enlightening time might be around the corner for you, IF you take the steps to make yourself receptive to it. Introduce some calm into your day, whether that means taking a short walk, sitting quietly in a park (or even your room) – do what you must to quiet the outer world to better listen within.
The Noble

Upright: When The Noble appears it signifies that you have strong mental clarity and authority in the what you know to be true. A master of your domain, you can see the path ahead clearly – don’t try and second guess yourself. The Noble encourages you examine and to take stock of your options, lay them out before you, and listen to which one would ultimately benefit you the most. That does not mean to choose the easiest choice, or the path of least resistance, it means choosing that will ultimately let you grow, and expand your power, even if it’s a difficult decision to make. Reversed: The Noble in reverse means that your ability to discern the truth is in deep doubt. Though a noble might have grand authority, it doesn’t mean they always know what’s best. Sometimes their sense of obligation might override their sense of what is right. So this card in reverse acts as a warning that decisions made out of obligation and fear may lead to feelings of resentment and disappointment. Examine if that conflict is at play, when The Noble appears in reverse during a read.
The Initiate of Fire

Upright: The Initiate of Fire card exemplifies a strong inner fire, and urges you to take action. Whether its applying for that new job, starting that creative project, or beginning a new hobby, The Initiate of Fire recognizes the burning desire within you and asks you to take up the sword to cut through all that binds you and hold you back from beginning your journey. By starting this journey with fiery passion you might also find that the things holding you back will burn away to ash, leaving you free to share you light with the world.
Reversed: When The Initiate of Fire appears in reverse this is a signal to look to your inner fire and examine whether you still have fuel within you to keep burning or if all you have left is cinders? You might’ve started your passion project with gusto, but now find you have less and less the energy to continue. Burnout is a very real thing, and without the fuel to continue your journey you’ll only end up resenting the work at hand and utterly exhausting yourself. Rest does not mean giving up, it means shoring up fuel for your fire to burn bright another day.
The Initiate of Water

Upright: The Initiate of Water says that you are in tune with intuition and have a keen grasp over the ebb and flow of your emotions. This is good because The Initiate of Water also means that a new emotional journey is beginning. Whether that’s romantic, interpersonal, or even a relationship with yourself – The Initiate of Water, asks you to reflect on your emotions for clarity of purpose, while also allowing your intuition to be a guiding light. The waters may not always flow smoothly, but The Initiative of Water says you’ve got the emotional tools to see yourself through any torrent.
Reversed: When The Initiate of Water appears in reverse it means you’re entering a tumultuous time where your intuition and emotions might feel like they’re flowing in wild directions. The waters WILL be choppy, but the way to stem the tide is with thoughtful reflection on that which serves you best. Sometimes It’s easy to float along, and let the currents take us where they will, but is that the path you want? Or is it just the one of least resistance?
The Initiate of Earth

Upright: When The Initiate of Earth appears in a reading it points to grounding yourself in what’s practical, and stable to see you through the coming days. Well thought plans, varied checklists, and supportive companions will serve you best right now. Not only that, but you also have the conviction of your most firmly held beliefs to act as the foundation for what you will build. Shore up all these things as corner stones and take stock of what you still need to keep building. The Initiate of Earth knows hard work is ahead but believes you can do it!
Reversed: When The Initiative of Earth is in reverse it acts as a sign that your world may be turned upside down. You may feel like all your trusted foundations are being upended, and that there’s no stable ground in sight. You’re entering a time of instability but The Initiate of Earth understands, and asks you not to fear. Your strongest foundation will always remain with you. With old structures falling away, you’re free to build new ones – whether that means new relationships, new living situation, new friends, or even a new way of looking at yourself – you get to be the architect of that new future looks like.
The Fallen Paladin

Upright: When The Fallen Paladin appears it signifies that now is a time where you must act with decisive purpose. There are some that may call you cold and calculated, but it’s because you have a clear vision for your goals and are entering a time to execute. That’s not to say there won’t be any hurdles in your way. The Fallen Paladin, is someone who acts with conscious awareness, deep concentration, and has the ability to easily conquer adversity through unflinching hard work. Reflect on your immediate goals and know that, you too can embody the power of The Fallen Paladin, to accomplish what’s in front of you.
Reversed: When The Fallen Paladin appears in reverse it is a sign that you may be myopically focused on your immediate work, without looking at the greater picture. It happens! Sometimes we get over worked or entrenched in a single task, thinking that as soon as THAT task is done, then all the other pieces will fall into place. But that may not be true. It may be time to take a step back, clear your head, and reflect on what it is you truly want to accomplish now and in the future.
The Unwilling Seraph

Upright: The Unwilling Seraph is a sign that you may feel trapped in a situation, but also asks you to look at what it is that’s binding you? A Seraph is a being with tremendous power and strong enough to break free from any restraint. Examine what are the ties that bind you – a job, a relationship, friends, maybe even yourself – and whether they are lifting you up, or making you feel trapped. Know that the power to change this feeling rests within you, once you accept your power is bigger than what keeps you small. Break free, now is the time!
Reversed: When The Unwilling Seraph appears in reverse it could mean that you are too stuck in your ways to allow yourself to break free and grow. It could be that you feel you have too many obligations, too many barriers, too many outside forces that hold you down to do anything about it. This card asks you to reflect on the power and energies within you, to see the way you can start unbinding yourself little by little. It’s not a process that happens overnight, but taking decisive steps towards freeing yourself is the important part.
The Maiden of Spring

Upright: When The Maiden of Spring appears this signifies a time of abundance and bloom. The dark clouds and rain of winter have dissipated, and though you might have struggled before now, that time has given way to sunny days, and your time to flourish. What has held you back has fallen away and an energy of abundance now lands bright on your shoulder. Reflect on what you can do with this reinvigorating energy, and how you can apply it to empower your dreams and goals. Take full advantage of this cosmic abundance now, because as sweet as spring is, it can’t last forever.
Reversed: The Maiden of Spring in reverse it means that spring has come but something is making it difficult for you to embrace its abundance. It could be that though the flowers are blooming, you’re lost in the weed. You might be too mired in the problems in front of you, to be aware of the opportunities all around you. Sometimes it’s difficult to accept spring has come when the winter was so long. But The Maiden of Spring is a reminder that this abundant energy is waiting for you. Think on all the ways, big and small, this energy may have already appeared in your life. What you find may surprise you.
The Maiden of Fall

Upright: When The Maiden of Fall appears it’s to remind you that times of gloom, and rain are all part of the natural cycle of life. This card points to you being inundated with difficult emotions that rain down from the problems clouding your life. Know that this is a transitionary, but necessary, phase. In the fall, what starts to wither will make way for new growth in the coming seasons, and this card is a sign that you’re allowed to let go of what no longer serves you, to make room for that growth. The skies will not always be dark, and the rain will not always fall. Trust that the sun will shine for you in a new season.
Reversed: The Maiden of Fall in reverse asks you to reflect on the gloomy time you may be experiencing right now. Sometimes dark clouds threaten stormy skies, and never produce a single drop of rain – but we anticipate the storm regardless. The Maiden of Fall in reverse asks, are you’re attempting to predict a storm you have no certainty will even come? And is that fraught anticipation keeping you from enjoying the sun when it peeks trough the clouds? Reflect on what negative outcome you’re anxiously waiting and whether there are real facts to back that outcome, or if it’s a storm that only rages in your mind.
The Travelers

Upright: The Travelers card is an indicator that you’re in a transitory state, but this is good! You may have been in a situation that wasn’t right for you, or one that was trapping you in comfort – with The Travelers you’re being asked to venture on to your next stage. Ask yourself if that job, that relationship, that friendship has run its course? If so then it might be time to leave. Departures can be sad, but think of it as a journey to meet the person you’re meant to become.
Reversed: When The Travelers appears in reverse, it shows up as a warning that you may be backsliding or returning to a situation that didn’t serve you. Sometimes it’s the people and the places we know best that bring us the most comfort, but if that comfort comes at the cost of your growth, you’ll have to examine whether it’s comfort or growth you really want. Your next adventure awaits on a distant shore – can you put that on hold for the sake of what’s familiar? Only you will know for sure, but The Travelers in reverse asks you to examine those options and your feeling about it.

HAPPY CLAMP DAY(s)!

part 49 - leave
word count; 1633 words
note; this is terrible I'm sorry, i didn't have loads of motivation to write this chapter in particular, but i am incredibly excited for the upcoming storyline :)) i have also been spending a lot of time planning the final few chapters and the epilogue chapters :)
You couldn’t believe your joy when Jaemin’s mother appeared at your front door.
You’d already had a difficult day; you’d been deeply upset after you had accidentally spilt some of your milk after you’d missed the bowl of cereal, silently crying tears of rage while Jaemin slept.
You lugged your heavy and achy body around work all day, resisting the urge to bitch-slap any irritating customers and Karens who had tried to argue with you over nothing.
‘Thank god for maternity leave,’ your coworker, Dahyun had remarked, and you couldn’t help but agree.
In general, the word ‘leave’ had been dominating your daily life. Your days had been full of pf emails and paperwork organising your pending school and work leave.
You’d decided to take a leave of absence from university, for at least ten months while you nursed and looked after Chaeyeon.
You had done what felt like endless research into how much time you’d be allowed off from school. You’d decided to take maternity based leave, and decided 10 months was a good amount of time.
’She’ll be standing up by then!’ You had pointed out to Jaemin, who had immediately shuddered.
Jaemin decided to take a 4-month leave of absence. He only got 2 weeks paternity leave from work, so he had decided to take time off school to be with you during the day. You also had at least 9 months away from work ahead of you.
‘Can’t believe you’re leaving in 7 weeks,’ Dahyun whined.
‘You make it sound like ages away,’ you sighed.
You’d eventually come home to Jaemin sitting in the middle of the living room floor, pumping up a grey yoga ball with what you recognised to be Jeno’s bicycle pump.
He didn’t notice you until you flung your bag onto the armchair he was sitting in front of, causing him to jump slightly.
‘Hi,’ he breathes, holding his arms out to you.
You slowly collapse into his arms, sighing heavily in a mixture of frustration from your bad day and relief at being home in your boyfriends’ arms.
He pulled you onto his lap, and you quickly buried your head in his neck, inhaling his comforting scent.
As always, he could sense how you were feeling. He always could, and he always knew what he could do to comfort you.
‘Bad day pretty girl?’ He murmured.
You only nod.
‘Aww,’ he cooed, pulling his head away from you so you’re looking at each other, ‘did my pretty baby have a bad day?’
You felt yourself growing red, always getting embarrassed when he spoke to you like that.
You giggled nervously, trying to move away from him as he playfully pinched your sides.
’There's that beautiful smile,’ he teases, smile fading when you sigh once more.
‘What's wrong?’ Jaemin asks, eyebrows furrowed in concern.
‘Hormones playing up,’ you explain, ‘I don’t think I've felt such anger in so long.’
‘Annoying customers?’
‘You have no idea. And spilt milk this morning.’
‘Oh no gorgeous,’ he rubs your sore back, making you hum and squirm in appreciation.
’S’that feel better?’
You simply grunt in response, ‘she’s really weighing my back down now.’
‘Just ask me to rub your back and I will.’
’Thank you,’ you mumble, closing your eyes in bliss as he kisses the top of your head.
The two of you bask in the moment, your tired and heavy eyes slowly falling shut.
Your moment is brought to an end by the sound of three sharp knocks on your front door.
’Sit down in the chair, I’ll get it,’ Jaemin says, helping you stand up before going to answer the door.
‘Oh mum/mom!’ You hear Jaemin exclaim, and your memories of the previous day came back.
You remembered how she had text you to tell you she’d be visiting you. You had meant to tell Jaemin, however pregnancy brain had struck and you had completely forgotten.
Now you’d entered your third trimester, a new wave of symptoms were affecting you in different ways.
Firstly, you had been forgetting EVERYTHING, starting from forgetting to bring notepads and pens to lectures, to forgetting to turn on the washing machine or the dishwasher and the likes.
Secondly, you’d started craving for the first time in your entire pregnancy, even things you didn’t like. You’d begged Jaemin repeatedly for chocolate anything, including but not limited to ice cream, cookies and cake. One night you’d decided that it was a smart idea to put ketchup all over each item of food, much to Jaemin’s horror.
‘I want it,’ you had whined the first time he’d protested.
’She wants it too,’ you motioned to your stomach.
He had eventually given in to you, allowing you to eat the strange combination in peace.
And finally, you had begun experiencing new kinds of discomfort. Your heavy stomach now weighed you down, making your back throb in dull pain. Your feet felt like they’d ballooned in size. They were swollen and sore beyond belief, and you had begun to start sitting down for longer periods of time.
‘Hi Y/N!’ You hear Jaemin’s mother greet you as she entered your living room.
Upon noticing your body on the floor, she turns to Jaemin and scolds him, ‘why is your pregnant girlfriend just lying on the floor!’
She swats his arm playfully, ‘I thought I raised you better than this, Na Jaemin!’
He laughs, ‘we were having a cuddle.’
‘Whatever,’ she laughs, before kneeling down to your level, ‘oh, Y/N, you look beautiful,’ she cups your face in her hands.
’Told you,’ Jaemin grins.
’ Let's get you on the sofa,’ she says, ‘up you get.’
She helps you to your feet, and you shuffle over to the sofa, sitting down and melting into the cushion.
’Sorry I forgot to tell you she was coming,’ you tell Jaemin, ‘it completely slipped my mind.’
‘I was always forgetting stuff when I was pregnant with Jaemin,’ Jaemin’s mother began, Jaemin groaning, ‘I did! I even used to forget I was pregnant until he kicked me too hard.’
‘He’s so irritating, isn’t he?’ You joked.
‘Hey!’ He laughs, lightly shoving your arm.
‘How have you been getting on?’
You explain all of your new symptoms while Jaemin runs around in the kitchen making her a coffee.
‘Has she started to move around more?’
‘Yeah, I woke up the other morning and she was all curled up on the left side of my stomach. My belly looked all lopsided for a couple hours until I felt her shift again.’
‘Jaemin would do that-‘
‘Mum/mom,’ he whines.
‘What? I was pregnant with you at one point. You didn’t just come out of nowhere.’
‘I don’t think Y/N wants to hear,’ Jaemin hands her coffee and sits down next to you, putting his arm around you. You rest your head on his shoulder.
’No, I really do,’ you taunted him.
‘So,’ Jaemin begins, ‘what’s the purpose of this visit?’
‘Charming!’ His mother scoffs, ‘you don’t want to see your own mother-‘
‘Yeah yeah,’ Jaemin rolls his eyes.
‘I’m here to help you guys learn to look after her,’ his mother explains.
‘Huh?’
‘You know we can’t afford antenatal classes,’ you mumble, ‘I figured someone we actually know could teach us, and just us. Not ten other thirty-year-old couples judging us.’
‘Who cares what they think,’ he murmurs so only you can hear. You know he’s not talking about those couples in particular.
After Jaemin’s mother finishes her coffee, the three of you make your way into the nursery, which was nearly finished, sans a few picture frames that Jaemin promised he’d put up on the wall later.
’Wow,’ Jaemin’s mother gasps, ‘it’s so beautiful in here.’
‘It was mostly Y/N,’ Jaemin shrugs and scratches the back of his neck.
‘I didn’t build a thing in here,’ you protest, ‘it was all you and Jeno.’
‘You planned it though,’ he argues while his mother begins looking at the small ornaments on the dresser.
‘Where are you keeping your diapers/nappies and stuff?’ She asks.
‘Here,’ Jaemin leans forward to pull open the drawer that contained most of the supplies.
‘Hmm, you’re right for getting all these diapers/nappies and wipes. You’ll go through them so quickly.’
‘I’m buying packs pretty much every time I go to the store,’ you sigh.
Over the next few hours, Jaemin’s mother spends time teaching you how to dress her - Jaemin driving you mad with how he clicked and pulled apart the studs on the baby grows - how to make her formula if you ever needed to, and how to properly tape up the nappies.
‘So when you burp her,’ she begins, Jaemin sniggering at the absurdity of the situation, ‘you tap her back like this.’
She starts lightly tapping this cushion she’d taken off of the sofa.
You spend the rest of the afternoon pouring over clothes you’d bought for Chaeyeon, as well as baby photos of Jaemin that his mother had brought over.
‘I hope she gets his smile,’ you say, staring at a photo of Jaemin as a toddler. He’s in a huge oversized yellow raincoat and rain boots. He’s stood in a large puddle, with a huge cheesy smile on his face.
‘He was a cute baby,’ his mother smiles softly, ‘I don’t know what happened.’
‘Hey!’ Jaemin whines.
‘I’m just joking,’ she says, ‘your baby’s got good genes. She’s gonna be beautiful.’
Her phone starts buzzing loudly.
‘That’ll be your father Jaem,’ she mutters, ‘I should probably get going.’
You say your goodbyes, Jaemin’s mother giving you a longer hug.
‘Take care Y/N,’ she rubs your arms gently, ‘I’m so proud of you.’
You feel your eyes quickly fill with hot tears, your hormones skyrocketing.
‘I’m proud of me too.’

I fully support Mal x Vil x reader/MC that's top tier. Your universe brain is blessing the fandom with that. Now I'm imagining Vil finding excuses to go to the Diasom dorm to see Mal and MC... I bet it's study sessions between the dorms initially, but Epel and Rook see the way he is with Mal and MC and know exactly what he's doing almost immediately. It's not long before they say stuff like "we understood today's lesson, you go on ahead tho" just so Vil can be more alone with them
~Ehh, thank you love!~
Ooh! I love the way your mind works!!! Mind if I go ahead and share some relationship headcanons for this trio?
Malleus x Vil x MC Pollyship Headcanons:
- A few details on this MC. Both Mal and Vil are strong willed, decisive, manipulative, and dramatic individuals with a horrid tendency to wallow in their negative emotions rather than find proactive ways of dealing with them or seeking help from others. For these reasons, I believe MC would have to be a rather laidback and open minded person. They wouldn’t have to be plain per say, but just not as dramatically flamboyant in comparison to their romantic interests. It would also be a load off of the boys if MC is honest, maybe a little blunt, and genuine; in this case, they wouldn’t feel the need to manipulate MC, being comfortable enough to let their guard down. Since the boys are lacking in emotional intelligence, it would fall to MC to pick up the slack in that department; thus they’re also gonna need to be observant enough to recognize when their boys’ are in a foul mood, be quick to analyze the situation to identify the source of their discomfort, and think of a healthy way to help them deal with those emotions. So, to summarize, this MC is: easygoing, open minded, relatively modest, honest/blunt, genuine, intelligent, observant, analytical, and tactful. Also gonna toss in curious and sharp, just for the he’ll of it. MC is in Diasomnia, because: a) that’s how Des’s scenario fits, and b) Malleus would the most difficult of the two to get close to, so earning his friendship first would be key to beginning this polyship. Moving on now.
- It didn’t take long after the first years’ arrival for Mal to notice MC, as they were already proving to be an excellent student. From what he’d gleaned from Sebek’s retelling of class, MC always paid attention and took notes during lectures, almost always answered every question pertaining to the subject of study (both from the professors and fellow students) in a clear and concise manner, and never shied away from their schoolwork. Malleus observed them from a distance, just to be sure if they were really worth his time, before finally approaching them. He was cautious in his initial introduction, not wanting to terrify the little creature too terribly with his oppressive aura. Much to his surprise, they didn’t seem all that deterred, in fact the exchange and following conversation was rather pleasant; so much so, that Mal continued to visit with them. Gradually their conversations became longer, deeper. It was easy for the draconic fae to relax around MC, since he realized that they weren’t the type to use personal information against others. In time, Malleus came to think of them as a good friend.
- Vil, on the other hand, didn’t give MC much thought for the better half of the semester. Outside of Malleus occasionally mentioning them there had never been an opportunity for them to catch his eye, especially since they didn’t really stand out in a visual sense. That changed during one of the school mock battles. This particular event required every able bodied student to group up into teams of 3-5 students all chosen by a leader. Naturally, Malleus got first dibs and chose Lilia, Vil, and MC for his team. The Pomefiore dorm leader attempted to convince his dear friend that someone a little more experienced than a first year would probably be a better choice, but Mal would hear nothing of it; Vil found out why soon enough. Just as they did in school, MC paid close attention to Mal’s strategy briefing and wasn’t afraid to ask questions or suggest alternative plans if things didn’t work out in their favor; it was impressive, even to Vil. The event went over quite well for them, the four person team overcame their opponents through mutual cooperation and tactical precision; in an odd way, the whole practice was kind of fun actually! Afterwards they went to the cafe to celebrate, there Vil and MC finally got a chance to talk. The two of them got along pretty well, and became fast friends.
- As Des said; Vil began using group study sessions to spend more time with Mal and MC...which Rook and Epel caught onto, then suggested he just go ahead by himself. Malleus was relieved at this news; not that he doesn’t like the other Pomefiore members, but he’d much rather spend time with just MC and Vil...you know, alone.
- At first the three of them mainly hung out during study sessions, which somehow evolved into training sessions, eventually makeovers and trips to Mr. S’s Mystery Shop.
- Let’s say that MC isn’t familiar with doing their hair or makeup. Vil happily designates himself as their cosmetics instructor, Mal occasionally pitching in as his assistant when he can. Despite succeeding in teaching MC their ways, both of the boys still enjoy doing it themselves.
- Mal started growing noticeably possessive of the other two, growling if someone seemed to stand too close or placed a hand on them in an all too familiar way. While Vil began fussing over their appearances, not in a nitpicky way, just fixing their hair or makeup more often; he even lent them his favorite product. None of this raised any flags for MC, who gradually became more comfortable initiating physical contact; leaning against them, laying their head on the others’ shoulders, sometimes even wrapping their arms around them.
- Like In @twistedwonderlandimagines Vil x Malleus headcanons, Mal was the first to realize that he liked the others as far more than just friends. They were in his dorm room, Mal watched as Vil brushed MC’s hair on the bed, adorably content with being there. “I love you,” Mal confessed nonchalantly. It was barely louder than mumble, but it was enough to make the others stop dead in their activity and stare at him questioningly. “Both of you, I mean.” Vil and MC glanced at each other, “Like,” MC spoke slowly, “platonically? Or...” The look on Mal’s face made the answer quite clear. Vil cleared his throat, MC shifted to view both of their companions. “Ok then. Let’s...uh, talk about this.”
- And So, they did. It was a little awkward at first, but in the end, they all agreed to try dating. At first MC and Vil thought they were just supposed to share the dragon. But, soon became very aware of their own feelings for each other, which led to more awkwardness as they attempted to sort out how that fit into the relationship dynamic. Of course, Malleus isn’t blind and, just as he did with the confession, blatantly told them he didn’t mind them dating each other too, maybe even preferred it, if it meant he didn’t have to watch their confusing little game any more. There ya go, crisis averted.
- Turns out that their relationship didn’t change all that much. They still enjoy all of the usual activities, only now there’s some intermittent cuddle sessions and kisses being exchanged. Mal has since decided to move his study time to his room, since there he can sit with both of his darlings. *debates whether or not to describe how they make out* *vetos due to excessive blood rush**maybe with a little peer pressure...*
- It’s an unspoken rule that MC is the designated comforter. Whenever zone of the boys are feeling stressed or under the weather, they’ll just latch on and soak in MC’s affection. If the third person comes in, MC will hold out an arm to welcome them; It’s very rare that this doesn’t end with all of them nodding off in a cozy pile.
- Once they’re all comfortable enough, group baths become a thing. Vil brings in his favorite shampoos and conditioner, along with sweet smelling bath oils and plushy towels. Mal loves it when MC uses their nails to gently scratch his scalp while working the shampoo into his Raven locks, particularly around the base of his horns. They all secretly enjoy pressing their cheeks to the others warm, damp shoulders...It’s just a really sweet past time.
That’s all I have for now. Feel free to add on more headcanons if y’all like!

hey any tips for someone starting to write fanfic? I'm inspired but have no idea where to start or what to do lol
Jeydon’s Official Underqualified Fanfiction Writing Tips - Chock Full of Dry Humor And Brutal Honesty:
First off don’t write on your phone. It fucks up any shred of formatting possible, you have a higher chance of making typos and it’s just all around a bad idea.
Speaking of typos - never upload your work (if you plan on sharing it anywhere) the same day you write it. Write what you can and then take a break. Come back later that day to revise and edit but sleep on it before you publish it so you can read over it with fresh eyes. I don’t always follow my own advice and when I don’t you can tell because there are lots of typos but that’s okay because I am king of the Romans and above grammar.
Or if you want to avoid all that you could just ask someone to beta your fics.
Okay all of that was kind of obvious so now you’ve got to get honest with yourself:
Do you sometimes start projects but never finish them? Are you easily overwhelmed by big loads of work? Do you compare yourself to others a lot? Do you look up to successful fanfic writers?
If you answered yes to any of these questions, don’t try to write a whole multi-chapter fic!! Do not! Start with oneshots because you get used to writing fanfic but you don’t have to develop a plot or anything. And shooting for a 10k+ word fic that’s as good as really experienced writer’s work is just unrealistic. Allow yourself time to grow and improve and don’t be too hard on yourself.
Also if you do plan on putting your fics on the Internet here’s the tiers of the platforms you can upload fanfic onto:
Bottom Tier: fanfiction.net
Nobody really uses this anymore so it’s a safe bet if you don’t want any feedback at all
Mid-Bottom Tier: Wattpad
The bar is set pretty low for Wattpad fics so literally anything goes.
Mid-Top Tier: Tumblr
Tumblr fic writers are slightly more advanced but don’t be intimidated! It’s a really nice community with lots of resources and almost everyone is willing to help you out if you have questions. I was really confused about masterlists for the first like 7 months I wrote fanfic so watch out for the confusing mess that is linking and organizing your fics. (Also writing and linking a multi-chapter fic to Tumblr is fucking painful so I would avoid that personally.)
Top Tier: Archive Of Our Own
I don’t know how to explain it but people on ao3 just have an air of confidence and professionalism about them that’s slightly intimidating. Only my best and most creative works go on ao3. You can upload oneshots here but most people use it to read longer fics.
I know you said you’re feeling inspired but trust me: ✨that won’t last!✨ If you need inspiration, you can search for prompts on Tumblr or try writing fics based off of songs. As cheesy as it sounds, some words are better than no words so don’t let yourself get overwhelmed with word count or word goals.
Also! Generally I advise against comparing your fic stats (notes, hits, kudos, comments etc.) to other people’s fics but let’s be real. We all do it. If you do do it, just note that smut almost always gets more praise and attention than other forms of writing so comparing normal fics to those ones would just be inaccurate as well as disheartening.
Hmm okay that’s all I got for now. Don’t be afraid to ask people to help because I promise feeling a little bit embarrassed about asking someone is nothing compared to the feelings of frustration and confusion you’ll have if you never ask questions. If you want some good references and tips from people who actually know what they’re doing and aren’t total dumbasses like I am, I’d scroll through the blog @phanficsanonymous because they post a bunch of super helpful stuff.
Good luck, Emily! I believe in you!

Easy Google Search Result API with Zenserp (Sponsored)
No matter how much experience I gain in this industry, one task I continue to fail at is building an accurate, flexible, and maintainable scraper for site search. As soon as sites change their HTML structure, my scrape is borked. When looking to build my own search results page, I looked around and the best solution I found was Zenserp. Zenserp, created by Saas Industries, is an easy to use, logical SERP API for getting customizable Google search results!
Quick Hits
Rolling your own SERP is verify difficult and impossible to maintain (think proxy networks and CAPTCHAs) — trust Zenserp to do it for you
API payloads are logical and easy to use
Get multiple data types: organic, paid, local, maps, and more
Zenserp does not store or sell your query requests
Very strong infrastructure – no QPS limit!
Provides a method for bulk data retrieval to consolidate API requests
Free to start!
Let’s have a look at using Zenserp’s API!
Using zenserp
After signing up for a free Zenserp account, you can start making requests. zenserp even has a nice question builder that allows you to export search code in cURL, Python, PHP, or Node.js:
Note: the API key used here was rotated and will no longer work
Note the available options: the search phrase, location requesting from, which Google domain you prefer, and language. Additional options include whether you want a text or image search, the number of results, and which page of results (page 1, page 2, etc.) you’d like. Super customizable!
Let’s have a look at the resulting payload:
{ "query": { "q": "david walsh blog", "hl": "en", "gl": "US", "location": "United States", "search_engine": "google.com", "apikey": "MY_API_KEY", "url": "https://google.com/search?q=david+walsh+blog&uule=w+CAIQICINVW5pdGVkIFN0YXRlcw&hl=en&gl=US&sourceid=chrome&ie=UTF-8" }, "organic": [ { "position": 1, "title": "David Walsh Blog - JavaScript Consultant", "url": "https://davidwalsh.name/", "destination": "https://davidwalsh.name", "description": "A blog featuring tutorials about JavaScript, HTML5, AJAX, PHP, CSS, WordPress, and everything else development.", "isAmp": false, "sitelinks": [ { "title": "About David Walsh", "description": "David Walsh. David Walsh's blog about HTML5, JavaScript (MooTools, jQuery, Dojo), CSS, PHP, AJAX,...", "isAmp": false }, { "position": 3, "title": "David Walsh Blog - Facebook", "url": "https://d.facebook.com/davidwalshblog/?__tn__=%2As-R", "destination": "https://d.facebook.com › davidwalshblog", "description": "David Walsh Blog, Madison, WI. 8005 likes · 7 talking about this. David Walsh's blog about HTML5, JavaScript (MooTools, jQuery, Dojo), CSS, PHP, AJAX,...", "isAmp": false }, // ... ], "number_of_results": 32600000 }
Since I wanted organic results, the organic property provides an interesting array of results which match when I do a manual query of david walsh blog. Notice the amount of detail in the first result, especially sitelinks, which represents the sub-links you see within a manual search on Google — wow!
If there are paid search results, those will be in the payload as well. Let’s look up bitcoin:
{ "query": { "q": "bitcoin", "hl": "en", "gl": "US", "location": "United States", "search_engine": "google.com", "apikey": "API_KEY", "url": "https://google.com/search?q=bitcoin&uule=w+CAIQICINVW5pdGVkIFN0YXRlcw&hl=en&gl=US&sourceid=chrome&ie=UTF-8" }, "paid": [ { "paidPosition": "top", "title": "Buy & Sell Bitcoin | #1 in Crypto Security & Safety | coinbase.com", "trackingUrl": "https://google.com/aclk?sa=l&ai=DChcSEwjDssyHo9HkAhUahtUKHXNyAlUYABAAGgJ3cw&sig=AOD64_1Gml8jrX5PSNhnHex8ZD2ErH6vIg&q&ved=2ahUKEwjXq8aHo9HkAhXSZVAKHXrWAUoQ0Qx6BAgVEAE&adurl", "destinationUrl": "https://www.coinbase.com/signup", "breadcrumbs": [], "visurl": "www.coinbase.com/", "description": "Coinbase is the Safest, Most Secure Place to Buy and Sell Bitcoin, Ethereum, and More. Notice the paid key which provides results usually seen at the top of searches for which were paid for by each vendor.
The above queries are the simplest but only the tip of the iceberg; here are a few other valuable search options:
device – mobile or desktop results
tbm – image search (isch) or maps (lcl)
timeframe – h, d, w, etc. for search results based on time units
There are loads of other customizations available to see in the Zenserp documentation.
Google Trends
Zenserp also provides a /trends API endpoint to query Google Trends:
curl https://app.zenserp.com/api/v1/trends \ -F "keyword[]=bitcoin" \ -F "keyword[]=ethereum" \ -F "apikey=YOUR-API-KEY"
Notice that you can provide multiple keywords using the array syntax!
Use Cases
The obvious use case for Zenserp is creating my own custom search page but SERPs are so much more useful than that — you could brainstorm any variety of use cases:
Monitoring your (or the competition’s) search placement for an important keyword
Tracking popular trends
Analyzing searches your users are making via your own search forms using SERP in the background
Downloading images that match a given term
Tracking a given business type’s density in a given area using Maps search
….too many to list!
As much as I love trusting my own scraping talents, it’s so much easier to trust Zenserp. I save time in maintenance and get the advantage of their easy to use API and its wealth of options. The more I learn about topics in this industry, the more I’ve learned to delegate difficult tasks to experts. Zenserp is the my expert in Google search results APIs.

{ "query": { "q": "david walsh blog", "hl": "en", "gl": "US", "location": "United States", "search_engine": "google.com", "apikey": "MY_API_KEY", "url": "https://google.com/search?q=david+walsh+blog&uule=w+CAIQICINVW5pdGVkIFN0YXRlcw&hl=en&gl=US&sourceid=chrome&ie=UTF-8" }, "organic": [ { "position": 1, "title": "David Walsh Blog - JavaScript Consultant", "url": "https://davidwalsh.name/", "destination": "https://davidwalsh.name", "description": "A blog featuring tutorials about JavaScript, HTML5, AJAX, PHP, CSS, WordPress, and everything else development.", "isAmp": false, "sitelinks": [ { "title": "About David Walsh", "description": "David Walsh.
