Red Pens and Keyboards
For those of you who prefer this format to having to click a link and go to Ao3.  Cursed Coffee Shop AU. Lancewain Rated T for minor swearing and suggestive themes.  Summary: Lancelot is a new writer. Gawain is his editor. They meet outside the office for once at a nook in the wall coffee shop. A little bit of chaos ensues. Percival is the the one with the relationship knowledge in this one. His dad needs to ask Lancelot out already.
Lancelot ran. He was fucked. This was the third time in as many weeks he had been late for meeting his editor. It hadn’t been a common occurrence until lately. For months he had been on time, but the last few weeks he’d been feeling increasingly more inspired and had been staying up later and later to write. That was in his opinion a valid reason for being late of course. He had overslept. Again. He was currently working fulltime and then some during the day and when he returned home at night he wrote. Last night he had been especially inspired, the same way he had been the last three times he’d been meant to meet with Gawain. He didn’t think too deeply as to why the inspiration was linked to these nights, but he certainly would not push it away.
He jumped over a large puddle in the middle of the sidewalk and nearly slipped. Righting himself he carried on, satchel thrown over his shoulder and nose tucked into his greying scarf. Grimacing he hoped that the rain wouldn't ruin the manuscript and his laptop. He’d forgotten his umbrella because of course he did. He ducked around the corner and, avoiding the drip edge of the shop roofs, bolted towards the coffee shop at the end of the block. The problem, he mused, with being a brand new and unknown author is that it didn’t provide an income that was live able. He had self published and had a meager following. Then one day a man had called and offered to take him on Pro Bono. It was a risky move for Gawain to have taken and Lancelot was certain this would be the last straw. Stopping outside Nemos he gathered himself, rain splashing on his face. He looked through the water speckled window for the brown haired man. He couldn't help but smile to himself when he saw him tucked in the back corner table. Gawain was well put together and wearing that green sweater that absolutely did not highlight his eyes or make him look a hundred times more attractive. Lancelot blushed to himself and shook his head. He was half an hour late and looked like shit in comparison. He had thrown his hair hastily into a bun, and knew he had circles that rivaled a raccoon's mask ringing his eyes. Taking a breath and setting his features to polite indifference he entered the store with his shoulders squared. If he was going to lose this gig, better do it with dignity. He approached the table where Gawain was tapping away on his laptop. Swallowing he opened his mouth to speak. Gawain, of course, chose that moment to make eye contact with him and smile. The words died in his suddenly very dry throat. His composure breaks just a touch with it. “Over sleep again?” “Uhm.” He sounded very dumb but Gawain just laughed. “The writing bug got you last night, then?” “Definitely.” He said sitting in the adjacent chair. Why wasn’t he getting his ass chewed?  “I apologize. I’ve wasted your time.” “Nonsense. It happens when one works in our business. I can edit just as well here as my office so I’ve been working. Besides, you're my only meeting today.” The editor said putting his laptop aside. “Did you bring the printed version for me?” “Just like you asked.” “Very good, go grab some coffee so you look like you could use it.”  Lancelot nodded and left the table as Gawain set to work with his pen. He wondered if the man knew how adorable he was with his face screwed up in concentration, pen resting idly against his very kissable lips. Lancelot rubbed his face. He really needed some caffeine. That was his editor. Nothing more. Despite his serious caffeine addiction, Lancelot did not drink coffee. Tea and energy drinks were his go to, and this being a coffee shop changed nothing. He ordered a hot extra strong, meaning very bitter, black tea. He couldn’t be bothered to care what kind, or brand, only that it was strong. He rubbed his numb fingers together in a poor attempt to regain blood flow. It stung when he was handed the almost too hot cup of tea. He lifted it to his lips and thought better of it. He did not need to scald his tongue and make a fool of himself. The embarrassment of being late was enough. Turning back towards the table he stopped. There was a young boy engaged in conversation with Gawain. He recognized him from the photos in his office. The office that they currently were not meeting in. He brushed the thought aside to be evaluated at a later time and worked his way back to the couple. “How much longer?” The boy asks as though it’s an innocent question. “You’ve got somewhere to be?” Gawain is far from moved by the question, eyes barely leaving the papers in front of him. “No, but I'm bored.” He stretches the “r” and lands hard on the “d”as if to emphasize his point. “You asked to come with me Percival.” And that must be Gawain's dad voice, because the man sounds about as done as done can be with this line of conversation. At least he assumes he's the boy's father. “I know. But really this place is bloody awful, it smells like burnt coffee.” If one's voice could sound like an eye roll that was definitely it. “Percival!” Even Lancelot straightens his spine at the stern tone. “Sorry.” He wants to laugh, the boy isn’t wrong so he bites his lip and smiles, tucking his nose back into his scarf. Quietly so as not to interrupt the conversation, but definitely noticed he sets his drink down and pulls his laptop out. They have a system, Gawain edits, he writes, then he makes those edits on the digital copy. But Gawain likes him to be present for the editing, which is why they go chapter by chapter. He promises that he will read it all at once when it's finished as a final edit and continuity check and that's good enough for Lance. He isn’t the editor after all.  Gawain sighs and it brings him from his thoughts. He looks up from the login screen he's been staring at. He should do that eventually. “Lancelot, this is Percival, Percival meet Lancelot.” “Nice to meet you.” He holds out his hand and the boy takes it politely. “You're sure this isn’t a date? Because you never meet people outside your office.”  Lancelot feels his face burn and pointedly doesn’t look at Gawain. That is definitely interesting knowledge to possess. The silence that follows lasts a beat or three to long. “I am technically working. And for the record Percival, dates don’t always occur by going out .  Now, we have work to do, so here is my laptop, you know the rules, fix your boredom.” The boy rolls his eyes and takes the offered electronic. “Sorry about that.” Gawain murmurs halfheartedly, eyes cast at the manuscript before him, pen twirling in his fingers, and face unmistakably flushed. “That's alright. He’s your son, right?” “Adopted, yes. His parents were good friends of mine.” “I’m sorry.” “Thank you. He seems to be adjusting well.” He tracks Gawain's gaze to the dirty blond boy and smiles. “He seems like a spit fire.” “He is. With a foul tongue at that.”  They share a laugh over it. Lancelot changes the subject after. He’s a little unsure where the boundaries are and decides to play it safe by speaking about work. “There's two chapters there… I managed a full chapter last night, and then some.” “That's impressive. How much sleep did you end up getting then?” “Uhm… I think four hours or so.”  He squirms under the scrutiny of Gawain's gaze, and withers at the deadpan admonishment that he receives. “It's a wonder your heart doesn’t give out, between your caffeine addiction and lack of sleep.” He nods. There isn’t an argument in his favor. Swallowing he starts again, “If we don’t get through it all that's fine. I just figured I would bring it since I have it.” “I’m grateful you did. One chapter never seems quiet enough. Reminds me of some of the stories I read online. I may be an editor, but I am highly impatient when it comes to stories I enjoy.” “Online, as in self published stuff? Or… fanfiction?”  Gawain tilts his head and smirks, “Both.” “Oh my god. Is that how you found me?”  He panics, heart racing in his chest as he thinks about everything he's ever posted. Maybe his pseudonyms hadn’t been different enough if Gawain had found him. Or maybe he hadn’t put it together that the Weeping Monk and The Gray Monk were the same writer. Even when he had self published he hadn’t had the courage to do so under his real name, more accustomed to running around with usernames and gamer tags. “You did self publish via Amazon. And I am always looking for good writers, Monk.” He wants to die. He can feel the burn of embarrassment spread up his neck and slither across his cheeks. He doesn’t know if Gawain knows but that doesn’t stop his brain from running down every possibility in 10 seconds flat. And if he didn’t put it together he sure as hell could now. He’d as good as admitted that he writes for fandoms. Gawain takes mercy on him and chuckles lightly before turning back to his work. Horrified, Lancelot takes a long drink from his still too hot, very bitter tea. Today has been insane and it's only 9:56. He needs to go back to bed. He licks his lips and turns to his laptop. He needs to write. He’s certain that if he can just bury himself in the world he has created for long enough the embarrassment and stray thoughts about asking Gawain out will leave him alone. With some effort he manages to zone out of the coffee shop around them, the sounds and smells fading into the background. His tea goes cold while he works. Patrons have begun flooding the shop for the lunch rush and he doesn't notice it, nor does he notice the muffin that's sitting beside him now. What he does notice is that his character's love interest is starting to resemble his own quiet vividly. Angrily he highlights the section and deletes it with a growl. Can’t have that. What would Gawain think? He has no idea what Gawain's preference is, and the other man hasn’t given much in the way of indication in the matter… not that Lancelot is great at picking up on it anyways. He starts the section over. He focuses on the click clack of his keyboard and writes Gavin slightly differently. It’s not working and he sighs defeated. He should really change the name too. This is his introduction chapter. Gawain hasn’t seen it. There's still time. He’s about to stand and stretch, take a drink of his tea and ask about Gawain's progress when all movement in Nemos stops. “ Why do they have a magic portal in the bathtub? ” Gawain's shocked tone is loud enough that he recoils away from it. He makes eye contact and sucks in a breath. Have Gawain's eyes always been this green? They are shiny with water. Was he going to cry? Laugh? Wait there was a question he was probably supposed to answer. “Uh, comedy? Magic?”  Gawain actually glares at him, and he takes a slow measured drink from very cold tea. That was apparently very much not the right answer. He swallows with difficulty, because how can those eyes be this distracting right now. He ignores the spike of arousal it sends down his spine. Nope. This is very much not the correct environment for this. He looks around the room casually. “Lancelot?” “I wrote myself into a corner and needed a convenient way for my protagonist to escape. It seemed clever when I wrote it. Apparently not.” He shrugs and turns back to his laptop. “I can fix it later, when I have more sleep in my system.” “I, no. I,” Gawain reaches across the table and grabs his wrist. He looks up at the man, hurt must be written on his face, because Gawain frowns at him. “I think it’s brilliant and very funny. I just was so unprepared for it. The rest of the book has been so serious and the magic has been all designed for the purposes of combat. I’m concerned you’ll need to go back and fix that or offer an explanation in the following chapters.— “ Gawain's hand is surprisingly calloused and very warm against his own inherently cool skin. He tries not to focus on the point of contact but can't help it. He desperately wants to turn his hand over and hold the others more correctly. He knows Gawain is telling him something important but he can't seem to get his mind to follow what's being said. The contact is a bit much, more than he has had in some time and he is loath to do anything that might break it; so, he nods hoping that it's sufficient for whatever Gawain has just asked. He knows his throat won't push out the air required for speech, even if he willed it with all his being. He tilts his head and licks his lips and gets lost in Gawain's gaze. He has no idea at all what is being said now and can’t seem to get his mind to focus. Percivals' voice is what finally gets his attention. The boy is all attitude when he speaks. “Not a date? You two look like you should be kissing each other senseless. Holding hands and all. You're so embarrassing Gawain. Can I have the power cord, it's been hours and the damn thing is going to die.” Slowly he comes back to himself and glances down at his arm. Gawain rubs his thumb over the skin on the back of his wrist, exposed from removing his jacket at some point, and then pulls away. “If you ask politely.”  Gawain says, unfazed save for the slight pink tinging his neck. “Fine, Can I please have the power cord for the laptop, Gawain?” The boy says rolling his eyes and giving a full body shrug. It’s not polite but Gawain's eyes are full of amusement as he digs in his bag for the cord. “Alright, here.” Gawain hands it over, from the depths of his bag. Gawain watches the boy go, and turns back ready to say something but Lancelot is quicker. “Whose muffin?” “Oh, huh, uh  yours if you want it. I got one for Percival and I a bit ago and figured you hadn’t eaten.” Gawain laughs out sheepishly, rubbing the back of his neck. “Oh, uh, you guessed correctly. Thank you.” He pulls the muffin closer with an awkward smile. “Don’t mention it. I was happy too. Though I wasn’t sure what kind you liked, so I went with lemon. I thought it might compliment the tea.”  He follows the casual gesture with his eyes, and flicks them back to the others face. “It’s one of my preferences. You guessed correctly. You seem to be on a streak for that today.” “That’s good.” Gawain says with a wry smile, all his confidence seeming to leave in an instant. Lancelot frowns. He doesn’t think anything he said should have that kind of effect. He tears a piece off of the muffin and chews it slowly, noting the way Gawain tracks the movement. Feeling a little like prey under the others gaze he manages a weak, “You didn’t poison it did you. I mean if my writing is that bad…” He trails off as the other snorts. Good, this is better. He doesn’t like it when Gawain frowns; it doesn’t suit him at all, and he definitely has too many lines from doing it too often. Gawain shakes his head and smiles at him. “Nothing of the sort. I enjoy the eccentricities of it. I was just thinking…” “About?” He takes another bite to fill the silence, and again Gawain tracks the movement and suddenly Lancelot thinks that he wasn’t wrong about the times he glanced up and thought he’d been being watched. It had happened a lot in the office, but more today. “If I’m three for three.” “That depends on what you're guessing.”  He shrugs and takes a drink of tea, grimaces from the bitterness. Cold tea always seems more bitter to him than it does when it's hot. He waits patiently for Gawain to supply his guess. The man's face changes emotions several times in the process. He opens his mouth and closes it several times, frowning and then focusing, like a fish out of water. He’s finished both his muffin and his tea by the time Gawain finally say’s what it is he wants to say. “I’m guessing that if I asked you out you’d say yes.”  Gawain stares him down, and Lancelot for his part does not let his emotions get the better of him. He keeps his face stoic and posture rigid. “That depends.”  Gawain swallows and he follows the bob of his Adam's apple with hungry eyes. Lets them linger at Gawain's collar for a moment and then brings them slowly back to his eyes, lingering on his lips momentarily; predatory where before he had been prey. “On?” Gawain asks a waver in his voice. “If you’ll make me breakfast.”  No one said he was good at flirting. “I think I can arrange that. Someone has to make sure you eat more than caffeine and sugar.” Amusement sparkles in his eyes. “Hmmm…. I think that depends on if you like me as a member of the undead or not.” “Being dead could have some, how shall we say, negative effects.” The suggestively raised eyebrow does it for Lancelot. He feels his composure fracture as he hangs his head and laughs. Any chance of continuing their work is gone with it, lost in the early afternoon chaos of their favorite coffee shop.

【 𝚀𝚄𝙴𝚂𝚃 𝙻𝙾𝙶: 𝙵𝚁𝚄𝙸𝚃𝚈 𝙷𝙴𝙰𝙳𝙲𝙰𝙽𝙾𝙽 𝙿𝚁𝙾𝙼𝙿𝚃𝚂 】 :// @starwritten sent: { I’m only putting the symbols and will put the longer text below!! all after the first under the cut due to length!} 🍍,  🍇,  🍉,  🍓,  🍋,  🥭,  🍐,  🍌
🍍  :    how comfortable is my muse in their body? how do they feel about their height, weight, strength, and body type? how important is being attractive to them?
          —     Hana is comfortable in her own body. She recognizes that despite how much junk she eats most times she’s very fit and thin by a lot of standards. But she’s also strong, and that’s what really matters to her. Her weight isn’t a huge concern for her, she thinks her body type is conventionally seen as pretty, and she’s happy to be as strong as she is despite technically being a twig. If she could change anything, it would probably be her height, but she’s not even sure if she could fit into Tokki then, so she’ll still pass. Being “attractive” isn’t a huge concern for her, especially not with how many other things she has on her mind. If she didn’t have so much to worry about outside of her appearance, it might mean more to her. That being said, she does make an effort to look nice, as she is considered a public figure and basically represents the entire MEKA squad — she wants to reflect well on them.
🍇  :    how would my muse describe their childhood? how much has it impacted the person they are now, or will become as an adult? around what age did they or will they start to mature, and why? do they wish to go back to their days as a child, or have they embraced adulthood?
          —     She would describe it as perfect. She got to spend time with her parents, learned how to play games from her father. And that aspect if none other definitely impacted who she is now — it was learning how to play from a former pro that gave her the skills needed to hit the scene herself, it was spending those days playing with him that made her love gaming. And it ultimately set her on the path she’s on now. She probably started maturing physically around the typical age, but mentally it might have been a bit sooner — since she likely thought about going pro for a while! These days, she does wish she could go back to being a kid, playing Starcraft with her dad. They were happier times for her, and she misses the peaceful simplicity of it all.
🍉  :    which of the four seasons suits my muse best, and why?
          —     I would say . . . probably summer. Because she’s full of energy and excitement, but there are also days where she’s dreary and down; and others where she’s short-tempered and confrontational. Basically summer weather in a nutshell!
🍓  :    how is my muse typically seen by others? does it ring true to who they really are? does their reputation matter to them?
          —     For those who only see her as D.Va? She’s seen as an unstoppable force full of smiles and cuteness, ready to take on any challenge in front of her. And that . . . doesn’t ring true to who Hana is, at all. At least not anymore. Maybe at one point it was less than an act to put the people of South Korea at ease, but with how much she’s been through, it’s more like putting on a mask in front of the cameras. That said, her reputation does matter to her — a lot; not just for her, but for her entire squad and by proxy the South Korean army. She represents them and if her reputation tanks, she takes them all with her. (At least in her mind, that’s how that works.)
🍋  :    what kind of diet does my muse have? do they eat regularly, or the standard 2-3 meals a day? do they have to be reminded to eat, or are they likely to remind others? do they cook, or have others cook for them? do they eat healthily, or not so much?
          —     D.Va Voice: What’s a diet?                         In all seriousness . . . Hana only eats regular meals when she’s reminded to. She has so many other things on her mind — many of which are of her own making — that she sometimes goes days only eating chips and drinking soda, because she either doesn’t give herself the time to get something better or simply forgot that real food is a thing. She much prefers having other people cook for her, primarily because cooking takes so much time, to her. Time she could be spending doing other things. (Not to mention, she has little experience cooking and she’s vaguely afraid to burn the kitchen down if she does anything more complicated than instant noodles.) She only eats healthily when someone else makes it for her. Otherwise, it’s mostly junk food — because it’s convenient, fast, and it works.
🥭  :    how important to my muse is their hometown, or where they’re from? are they proud of it, or considered a hometown hero? did they move away, or do they wish to?
          —     Considering we don’t actually know D.Va’s hometown, but it’s definitely somewhere in South Korea — possibly Busan — she’s most definitely probably very important. Not only because she rose to fame at a young age as a professional gamer, but also because she’s now defending her home. She would definitely be considered a hometown hero, especially if she came from a smaller town as opposed to a big city, and she’s definitely very proud, if a little nervous about letting them down. If she isn’t from Busan, she definitely did move away, but if she is from Busan, she likely has no wishes to move away — at least not for a long while.
🍐  :    how intelligent is my muse overall? are they smarter than the average person, or less than? are they primarily self-taught, or did they acquire most of their knowledge in school? are they more street smart or book smart?
          —     In terms of book smarts, she’s about as intelligent as the average South Korean high school graduate — give or take a few. While she is bright, she’s typically put her priorities elsewhere, and between hitting the pro gaming scene and joining the MEKA squad, she has no thoughts of pursuing higher education for a long while. Most of these smarts aspects were learned in school or from her parents. In terms of street smarts, there are aspects where she falls behind and aspects where she’s leaps and bounds ahead of others, but she is definitely more street smart than she is book smart. (Not that she’s dumb!!!)
🍌  :    is my muse inclined to help others, or will they only do it when it benefits them, if at all? what makes them this way? has it ever gotten them into trouble, or inconvenienced them?
          —     Hana is inclined to help others. To a fault. She was raised that helping others was the right thing to do, and that she should treat others the way she would want to be treated in that situation. Add her responsibilities protecting South Korea from the Gwishin, and she might have a bit of a hero complex on top of that. Typically, it doesn’t cause her any problems, but the biggest example of when it has is the events of the Shooting Star cinematic. I mean, she almost f*cking d i e d.

[QZGS Prequel TL] Ch 8: Inheritance
(info post and links for the translations of the QZGS prequel, 巅峰荣耀 Top Glory)
summary: Thanks to a contribution of rare materials from a mysterious benefactor, a silver weapon for Troubling Rain has been completed. The time has come for the Sword and Curse to lead Blue Rain to glory.
(This is only a short chapter, and I’d already mostly translated it in my Summer Days of Blue Rain, but for completeness I figured I should clean it up and post it here. Normal disclaimers apply. Read/comment/enjoy!)
Translated by: Syncogon
“They won, they won again!”
“Who won?”
“Tiny Herb, of course it’s Tiny Herb!”
On the television, on the computer, in the Glory game, game forums, Weibo, QQ groups…
Anywhere where people gathered, anywhere where there were Glory players, the news of Tiny Herb’s victory spread like an exploding stove.
Glory Professional Alliance Season 3, in the final round of the regular season, the highly eye-catching Tiny Herb didn’t disappoint. Even when they had already secured their spot in the playoffs, they still played seriously to earn the last victory in the regular season, entering the playoffs at third place.
Tiny Herb wasn’t new to the playoffs, but this Tiny Herb, in their eyes, was an entirely new Tiny Herb.
And in reality, they had only switched one person.
Tiny Herb’s captain, the controller of core character Vaccaria, was now changed to a new person. And this new player’s name, along with his title, had echoed through the entirety of Glory from early on.
The Magician, Wang Jiexi.
This was a title that belonged to him, entirely unrelated to the character he controlled. His brilliant, incredible play was like magic. Let alone the ordinary gamers who wished to imitate it, even among the pros there was no one who could fathom the mystery. The experience of the seniors unraveled in front of this never-before-seen playstyle, and one expert after another fell to Wang Jiexi’s Vaccaria.
He was a rookie. In the beginning, they called him a challenger.
But now, at the end of the season, the challenger had quietly become the conqueror.
True, Wang Jiexi didn’t win every single battle. But only the Arena had ever had that kind of win record, and there was no way to surpass Ye Qiu there.*
In the Glory professional circle, people saw too many pro players rendered helpless in front of Wang Jiexi.
In the Glory in-game circle, the Witch accounts that sprung up trying to emulate his style were abandoned soon enough. They had no way of replicating Wang Jiexi’s Magician playstyle, and this kind of Witch naturally had no way of displaying the radiance they had hoped to see.
And now, the unique Magician was about to begin a new journey.
“Season 3 Playoffs, the Magician Arrives!” Huang Shaotian read aloud the headline of Esports Weekly. They were the greatest authority of esports media in the country; putting Wang Jiexi as the star of the final report of the regular season was proof of the anticipation toward this player. But after Huang Shaotian saw this title, he only spared a casual glance at the contents of the article before studying the player’s photograph in the article, and he revealed an unusual expression of melancholy.
“That guy, he’s already gotten to that level.” Huang Shaotian tossed the newspaper back onto the table. He tucked his arms behind his head, tilted back, and grumbled at the ceiling.
To the side, Yu Wenzhou was carefully studying a Glory battle and occasionally making notes in his notebook on the table. After hearing Huang Shaotian’s mutter, he paused the match and turned his head, his eyes sweeping across the large headline on the front page of the newspaper.
“The Magician. An accurate name.” This was his reaction after looking at the article.
“You…” Huang Shaotian was somewhat disappointed by Yu Wenzhou’s lackluster response, and he straightened in his chair. “Got any good analysis on him?”
“He-”
“Shaotian!”
Just when Yu Wenzhou opened his mouth, another young new Blue Rain trainee crashed into the training room, loudly hollering Huang Shaotian’s name.
“R&D just completed a silver weapon for Troubling Rain! Captain wants you to go look!” As soon as the youth caught his breath, he was already yelling these next words.
“What?” Haung Shaotian’s eyes instantly widened, and he leapt from his chair.
“Let’s go let’s go!” he yelled, already forgetting about the question he’d asked Yu Wenzhou as he flew out of the room.
Yu Wenzhou, who had just gotten out a “he,” could only smile and shake his head. He turned back to the computer, and was just about to unpause his video when the trainee that had called Huang Shaotian spoke again.
“Wenzhou, aren’t you going too? They’re saying that they only managed to complete this silver weapon because a mysterious player sent a whole lot of rare materials to Blue Brook Guild!” the youth said.
Hearing that, Yu Wenzhou froze. “A mysterious player?”
“Yeah,” the trainee confirmed.
Yu Wenzhou’s gaze drifted across the training room, landing upon that one computer that hadn’t been touched in almost a year.
After their former captain had made that simple announcement of “I’m leaving,” the seat he had used was left empty, his computer left idle. The Blue Rain members reached a tacit agreement that no one would touch his spot, as though hoping that one day, as suddenly as he had left, that man would return and take his place once more.
“But… you haven’t really left, have you,” Yu Wenzhou mused to himself, his mood like Huang Shaotian’s earlier, somewhat melancholy.
“Wenzhou, are you coming or not?” The other boy’s impatient voice cut into his thoughts.
“I’m coming,” Yu Wenzhou answered, gathering his notebook and pen and quickly walking toward the door. The trainee was holding the door open as he waited, and Yu Wenzhou noticed that the fingers of his right hand were moving restlessly on the doorknob, as though controlling a mouse or tapping a keyboard.
“Your hand speed’s pretty high,” Yu Wenzhou smiled, seeing that restless hand.
“I’d rather discuss that topic with Shaotian…” the boy said.
Yu Wenzhou chuckled; he was well known within Blue Rain for his inescapably slow hand speed, no matter how hard he trained. Of course, by now, no one would think to mock him for it. Despite this handicap, he still won many matches in their circle with this kind of APM. He demonstrated remarkable talent that was more than enough to make up for his weakness.
As for this trainee, he wasn’t really insulting Yu Wenzhou with that comment; he was simply the mischievous type. Captain Fang Shijing had mentioned that he liked this trainee’s style, and Yu Wenzhou suspected that this was a major reason for his recruiting this youth from the Challenger League into the Blue Rain training camp.
However, even just considering raw skill and potential, there was nothing to criticize about Captain Fang Shijing’s choice.
“If we only consider right hand APM, his hand speed is even higher than Shaotian’s.” This was one of Fang Shijing’s important evaluations of him, and indeed it was the case.
Yu Wenzhou didn’t otherwise respond to the trainee’s teasing. “Let’s go, Fang Rui,” he said to him as he walked out the door.
Blue Rain, R&D department.
For any professional team, the technical department was the most heavily guarded secret area. Information on how the team’s silver equipment was developed, or the specifics of their stats, could not under any circumstances be allowed to leak to the public.
After Wei Chen pulled the prodigy Huang Shaotian into Blue Rain’s training camp, Blue Rain’s technical team gained a new top priority – developing the silver equipment for Huang Shaotian’s Blade Master, Troubling Rain.
And today, they completed the most important piece of this most important work.
The weapon!
A self-made weapon belonging to Troubling Rain alone, a silver weapon, was finally created.
This wasn’t something that an ordinary Glory player could have made by just throwing together rare materials in the editor. Most silver weapons made by ordinary players weren’t any different from normal weapons, aside from the silver-colored name. But this was a true silver weapon, one that elevated its user’s stats far beyond what any normal weapon could hope to accomplish.
When Yu Wenzhou and Fang Rui entered, they found the room completely silent. Everyone was crowded around one computer, and most didn’t even bother to look up at the sound of their entrance. Those that did only glanced over before quickly turning back.
With effort, the two of them maneuvered through the crowd to a vantage point from which they could see the screen.
The screen displayed this precious weapon – a light saber, slowly rotating. The blade looked like a crystal raindrop, elongated and sharpened; it glowed with threads of pale blue light and wisps of icy mist.
The silence in the room lasted for an indeterminable amount of time before it was finally broken by Huang Shaotian, who, despite his talkative mouth, had only one word to say.
“Amazing.”
Standing right beside him, Captain Fang Shijing said to him, “Try it out.”
Huang Shaotian nodded sharply. In a flurry of movement, he equipped the weapon on his character and entered a match in the Arena.
When the battle began, no one paid attention to his poor opponent or his class; they only saw the flashes of blue light from the sword in Troubling Rain’s hand. They watched it dance, jump, kill. Blood droplets scattered across the ground as his opponent fell.
“This is fantastic!” This time, Huang Shaotian said three words, and he jumped up onto his chair. “With him, next season I’ll give them a show! What Battle God, King of Fighting, Blood and Blossoms, Magician… Just you all wait!”
“Alright!” No one moved to stop Huang Shaotian’s excited movement. All of the Blue Rain members, staff and players alike, had been awaiting this day for a long time.
This season, Wei Chen had retired, Fang Shijing had stepped up, Blue Rain hadn’t even made it to the playoffs. To outsiders, it seemed as though this team’s days of being a powerhouse were over, that they were now fading from the spotlight.
But no one at Blue Rain believed this.
Even if their record this season was poor, even if they were forgotten this summer. No matter what, they had faith that Blue Rain would have an era that belonged to them. And this era, with the birth of this silver weapon, was about to begin.
“It’s up to you, Shaotian!” one of the technical workers said, and others immediately voiced their agreement.
“Do you even need to say that? Of course!” said Huang Shaotian. But just that one battle wasn’t enough for him to fully try out this new weapon. He quickly sat back in his chair and entered a new battle, this time chattering away at the tech workers sitting near him as he experimented with his new capabilities.
By this time, Captain Fang Shijing had quietly made his way through the crowd to stand by Yu Wenzhou.
“Are you ready?” he asked, abruptly.
Yu Wenzhou turned to look at him. But Fang Shijing was staring out the window, gazing at that brilliant blue sky beyond.
“Yes,” answered Yu Wenzhou.
“Then it’s time to entrust this to you.” As he spoke, Fang Shijing’s gaze shifted down to his hand, and the account card it held. Without fanfare, this card was passed to its new owner.
“From today on, you are the captain of Team Blue Rain, user of the Warlock Swoksaar.”
*the original text said “诚然王杰希也不是百战百胜,但是竞技场上,从来没有这样的胜率,强如叶秋,也不可能。” which I read as something like “True, Wang Jiexi didn’t win every single battle. But the Arena had never seen this kind of win record before, and there was no way to surpass Ye Qiu.” But no matter how I looked at it, I couldn’t figure out how that sentence was true / made sense.

“Worry no, for me! I-I many strong!”
//I suppose this could be a start of a thank you note for those who been with me. Can’t call this a follow forever because sometimes something goes wrong and then people gotta split paths. So let me at least say my thanks for those who liked the journey of this awkward Momotaro.
And attempts to keep adopting him. Gosh dangit guys.
@giutisu/@acekuratetto: Kay, I think you’re one of the long runners who are well, still around! You’re very friendly to many fandoms, and to folks within the A.ce A.ttorney area! I applaud your spot on portrayal of these nerds, and you’re well liked for that! But personally, I like you for being a neato dweeb. Thank you.
@ultimate-impostxr: It started with a mutual appreciation of each others art, although I feel like I’ve seen your art before doing the dergle ropes rp. But to have a friend who’s kindhearted out of that? Heck yes! I love your portrayal of the U.ltimate I.mposter as a sweet heart, which is accurate to canon. Of course, I do love your own tweaks to what he is, and admittedly it’s much cooler than what actually happened. So thank you for letting me interact with this heartful world of a guy who likes love.
@peachypinksovereign/@crudelisx: Cookie! I hope you’ve been doing well! While we haven’t been speaking much, I still think of your portrayal of Peach a lot. It’s alright to not rp now, as I understand that sentiment too. But hey, I’m totally up for talking about how Peach is a mom to Momo! Also Darkie and Inumi are still buds, and I love her glee over that dog...and g.ore.
@shsl-house-keeper: REE. To me, you’ve role played the first and importantest C.hisa. I mean your fiery depiction of the teacher has impacted the dergle rope rp crack!  But I must repeat that when it comes to sentimental moments, you nailed it. And you’re a really good friend too, may your move be safe! Also let your cheese have all the kids with the spouses she love.
@rikaikokai/@akaikogo: Momma Mako, a person who really puts love into their characterization. Adding details but still being faithful to the original concept. Not much of a question why you’re well loved! I love the rare moments that Juuzou is a good pops, but I really do appreciate the times you supported me. Not taking sides is a good idea, and thank you for keeping many people grounded.
@lumiosecoffeeclub: Came for the whis, stayed for the friendship. Tev, it’s rather admirable you have a loving attitude. I mean I’ve started to take up some of your habits, and it’s been beneficial! You’re always helping others to care for themselves, and your characters are no slouches. Keep being amazing man.
@hopeinreserve: Hajime and Bri are quite delightful. I love the memes Bri brings up man, and the ahoge is a good straightman for all the chaos I’ve seen. He’s a good amount of snark but silly! Thanks for bringing that to the table!
@starshipmario: We don’t talk much, but I think you’re cool beans. You’re very dedicated to the whole shindig about Mario, and personally I think it’s cool. Heck, the fact that several pros like your work means that you’re doing great! May this reboot of yours bring amazing memories!
@wisdomsdownfall: Just wanted to say, hi, and that your au of Z.elda is well thought out. I like reading your headcanons, and the times we had at the academy was nice too! Thanks you and that’s all for now!
@faiita: Your portrayal of Akane is lovely! I like the brash nature, and you do reflect that too. Take it easy, but you know that. You got friends in me, and others!
To that rper I used to know, thank you for affirming that my disability-related headcanons were alright. We may not speak anymore, but that’s up to you. I am sorry about what happened, and I’m working on not repeating that mistake (even if it haunts me). May you have fun rping and other things...and hopefully your situation improves too!
@nocturnalbun & @ @isleomuses: You two are good buds, and I personally think you should get more love from other folks! Especially Bun’s artwork! Your choice of muses and portrayals are good man. Stay classy!
@anemoia-avenoir: I haven't seen many talentswaps...and I guess they can be considered rare. But I think yours is one of the neato-est. N.agisa is sitll N.agisa...but with more love for animals, and that’s still cool. Because sometimes folks prefer critters over humans. Hope to see his development continue to blossom! Also, you’re a cool dude.
@pheraenlion: We don’t have many memories yet, but you’re quite friendly and I look forward to rping with you as you said! ...if you’re okay with doing that. Moomoo and R.oy are fantastic man.
@demonsandlollipops: I wish you luck on your other blogs! I did enjoy the initial interactions between Momotaro and B.ayonetta! It was a pleasant surprise, and, admittedly it’d be selfish to ask for more. Have fun with 2D!
@patixntia: Bringing a not so well known character to life is awesome. And you have so many good ideas for this Killer Killer protag! You and Glow bring their heroes to life, and mischief! ...looking forward to that mama m.isaki verse.
@roseate-ruruka: Imma supportin’ you man. I’m glad we are bros so thank you. Hang in there, and do what you need to do. Gonna be slipping some ruru’s here and there now~
@fxshionable-mxsks: You are full of ideas, and I hope that others will see them too! Also you make a great duo with Rico. I can’t say “may S.eiko see happier days” because you have despairing plans for her, and that’s fine. Not everyone has a happy ending, but you’re a good friend.
@kyoukokiwigiri: Just gotta say that Lucia is a great meme, and Kiwigiri. Nice to read her antics, and the sporadic conversations we have! ...yes I’m gonna treasure the few moments Kiwi (and Munny) had with Momo. They were adorable.
@furryvolleyball: I don’t know if you’re still around, but well, I hope you’re doing fine wherever you all! Gotta say a BIG thank you for surprising me with that doodle of Momotaro!
And there’s some other peeps I can’t say much about because we haven’t talked much but I am very grateful for anyways. I look forward to making some memories with you guys, if that is okay. You all seem lovely!
@snappshot, @sleepyshsl, @spurioussculptor, @shi-jou, @thebolodojo, @resfebear, @exsspes, @darker-feathers, @despairousel, @shsl-gamer-rper, @moonmonogatari, @pseudxcode, @emissicius, @dancingfordespair, @suyoichan, @resurrectedhylianhero, @destinysengineer, @scholarwarriorfather, @condomglitter, @unfxrtunatelycxrrupted
and to most of my followers and friends. Yes you, who’s reading this. You’re cool bro. Thanks for sticking with me...or just checking in. Checking in with friends is good! Thank you. Take good care of yourself today too!

With the advent of hyper-casual, cross-platform, multiplayer online battle arena games (MOBAs) and live stream culture, a gaming phone is more relevant than ever before. But from the Nokia N-gage days to recent past, this has been a stumbling pursuit and brushed off as pointless. However, that hasn’t stopped a few brands like Nubia, who are steadfast in their resolve. Accordingly, we have come across “truly” gaming smartphones, like the one in this review, that claim a competitive advantage over their mainstream counterparts.
The Nubia Red Magic 3S was launched in India in the latter half of the year. It might have flown under your radar, partly since 2019 witnessed a glut of quality smartphones. Secondly, this ZTE associate is a fairly lesser-known brand in the country. Nonetheless, when the device came across my hands, I decided to give it a try. In fact, I’ve been putting it to the test since then.
So, if it piques the gamer gene in you to know whether this should be a part of your gaming setup, read along. I’ll be sharing my experience over the course of this review.
But before we delve into details, let’s get the specs out of our way.
Nubia Red Magic 3S Price and Specifications

Nubia Red Magic 3S Review: Design and Build
It’s like the Nubia designers let their imagination run wild and came up with this polarizing look. The design resembles something inspired by the Transformers, the movie franchise. Build-wise, it’s a metallic stout that weighs around 215 grams, which is slippery and a bit unwieldy.
But the make is mused over and it’s more than what meets the eye. The choice of metal over glass means better heat dissipation. Although the convex-shaped base acts as a rocking chair when placed on a surface, it offers a nice hold. Rest, everything from the slightly jutting diamond-shaped rear camera to the air intake grill, fingerprint scanner, RBG strip to the logo feels sauce!
To the right, you get two touch-sensitive triggers, an exhaust vent, volume rockers, and the power button. While the left side has the Game Space switch, SIM-card tray, and the connector for the dock station. Nubia has given both a USB-C socket and a 3.5mm audio jack – things we no longer take for granted.
Now, the fancy elements of the Nubia design DNA might very well throw off a casual user. But, Nubia’s aesthetic choices, for all intents and purposes, do stand out from the crowd.
Nubia Red Magic 3S Review: Display & Audio
Nubia Red Magic display keeps up with the times. The FHD+ AMOLED panel supports the 90Hz refresh rate. The panel measure 6.65-inches diagonally with an 18:9 aspect ratio. There’s HDR support too.
Needless to say, the display is smooth but the higher refresh rate does cut back on the battery life. Now, if you try to bring it down to 60Hz, you wouldn’t find the option right away. Dig deeper into the Game Space settings, there’s an option to toggle between 60 and 90 hertz. But mind you, this is not applied system-wide, which defeats the point.
The screen legibility is fine at 480 nits under both sun and shade. However, while kept in comparison to some of its peers, we felt it could’ve been a wee bit brighter and sharper. Then there were times when the touch wasn’t as responsive as I wanted it to be. The long presses on the home screen or app drawer to open the menu or drag and drop items went undetected. Call it a one-off thing or even a software bug, but it was weird what so ever. Also, it only has support for Widevine L3 which means you can stream Netflix and Prime in 480p resolution only. Oof!
As for the sound, Red Magic sports dual front-firing speakers. The audio output is alright in terms of loudness and texture. The same is true for headphone sound staging. While I was testing the Skullcandy Sesh (review), the output was clearly finer on the OnePlus 7T (review).
Nubia Red Magic 3S Review: Camera
While the industry is pacing to place more and more cameras on their phones, Nubia has stuck to two shooters, one on either side. There’s a 16-megapixel shooter on the front and a 48-megapixel sensor at the back. The camera app is pretty straight forward with an easy to use interface. It comes with a dedicated macro mode, night mode, 48MP mode, and video recording up to 8K (although limited to 15fps), amongst other features.
However, when it comes to real-world performance, the camera pales grossly. The photos lack the detail, texture, and life you expect. In a similar vein, the selfies are gloomy, especially while taken indoor. The faces look overly softened. Lack of OIS means the videos come out jittery. The case is similar when it comes to the Slomo feature. Although it boasts 1920 fps, the result is choppy. Even missing basics like native portrait mode is not appreciated in 2019-20.
Here are some camera samples for your reference –

Nubia Red Magic 3S Review: Gaming & Battery Life
Performance is the strongest suit of Red Magic 3S. After all, it’s a gaming phone. It is engined by a Snapdragon 855+ chipset, coupled with up to 12GB RAM and 256GB ROM. Nubia has slapped stock-ish Android on top. This means a bloat-free and smooth experience. But, on the other hand, some of you might not like the baseline AOSP and find it a lil too bland.
But if you ask me, it was right up my alley. The skin is bloat-free, smooth and responsive. Two things that really irked me were – the persistent ‘SIM1 is HD capable‘ notification and every time I tap mobile data QS tile, it took a moment to respond. Oo Yes, gesture navigation and system-wide dark mode are also heavily missed here. For some weird reason, the given Dark Theme failed to work. Plus, Android 9 feels dated when its peers like Asus ROG Phone 2 (review) are already enqueued for the latest Android 10.
The software also plays a big part in the gaming experience. For instance, the Game Space lets you manage your games in one place. It can be toggled on or off using the hardware switch on the top left corner. You can control the fan cooling speed and other game settings, track the performance, block calls and notifications for a focussed gaming session. You even get an option to customize the RGB LED strip at the back.
Here’s a quick rundown its special gaming features –
4D customizable vibrations, the shoulder triggers, action button, and even the fingerprint reader enhances the control and command over the games.
The light strip (which is BTW customizable) might appeal to anyone who’s a sucker for the RGB light.
A second-generation ICE liquid cooling coupled with an actual fan does a good job in heat dissipation.

Red Magic 3S’s impressive performance is reflected in the run of the mill benchmark scores as well –
Benchmark  Score AnTuTu 4,95,238 Geekbench Compute OpenCL score 2750 Geekbench Score Single-core 788 Geekbench 5 multi-core 2455 3D Mark Sling Shot Extreme OpenGL ES 6233 3D Mark Sligh Shot Extreme Vulkan 5417
While we are discussing benchmarks, let me interject the storage read and write speeds that have significantly improved on the 3S over its predecessor. Thank Nubia for adopting UFS 3.0 standard and hence the phone manages to hit following R/W speeds –
Sequential Read: 1470.59 MB/s
Sequential Write: 221.84 MB/s
Random Read: 162.31 MB/s
Random Write: 132.46 MB/s
It can handle prolonged heavy loads with no throttling or hiccups. The active cooling via a fan and liquid cooling via the vapor chamber does make a difference. The great replay value it offers is courtesy of that capacious 5K mAh battery. It’s capable of squeezing out two-day worth juice on normal use. And even with long game hours, you are less likely to feel range-anxiety. I just wished it had supported a faster charging. An 18W adapter feels a mismatch for the big battery. Moreover, the bundled power brick feels a little cheap too.

Nubia Red Magic 3S Review: Verdict
Reviewing a gaming phone is a tad different than judging conventional phones. A gamer values and nitpicks on things that would hardly bother the mainstream audience. I state my case with Nubia’s design philosophy. Although the phone is a safe bet on the performance front, you can’t blame one for wishing a less garish look and better ergonomics. Similarly, Nubia could’ve cooked a polished software experience and given versatile and dependable cameras.
The magic it conjures up whilst gaming is appealing for sure. But if that doesn’t excite you, there is hardly anything worth aspiring. At the starting price of Rs. 35,999, one does have more than “good enough” flagship killers. If you can shell out a bit more, there you have the ROG Phone 2.
Nubia Red Magic 3S Review With the advent of hyper-casual, cross-platform, multiplayer online battle arena games (MOBAs) and live stream culture, a gaming phone is more relevant than ever before.

How a Technology Addiction Can Hurt Your Health
Why would these tech titans stop their children from using the products they helped create and promote? Because they knew the grim truth: Technology addiction is a very real problem. Not only are innovations such as smartphones, social media, and the internet addictive by their very nature, but they’re also specifically engineered to take advantage of human vulnerabilities and our hardwired basic needs. These tech pros, who also were parents, knew that—as with any addiction—there are serious consequences of being dependent on devices, including risks from disrupted sleep to depression. And of course, it’s not just the youngest users who need to be protected from these pitfalls. It’s all of us.
In this article, you’ll learn the symptoms of technology addiction along with the science behind it. If you’re hooked more than you’d like to be, make sure to read all the way to the end for seven ways to reduce your use … and then promptly turn off your computer or phone and head out for a hike or other tech-free adventure.
Do you need help stepping away from your smartphone? Check out this article for more information on technology addiction, and get seven tips on how to cut back on your screen time. #healthylifestyle #chriskresser
These Five Short Stats Are Worth a Long Look
Before I do a deep dive into what technology addiction looks like, let these facts on screen time sink in:
Americans now look at their smartphones an average of 52 times a day, more often than ever before. (1)
We can’t even put them down on vacation. In fact, a 2018 poll found that we actually check our phones more while enjoying some R&R: roughly 80 times per day. (2)
Researchers found that college students spend nearly nine hours daily on their phones, texting, gaming, scrolling through social media, etc. (3)
We check work email at home constantly, from the bed, dinner table, and bathroom, even looking at our inbox during face-to-face conversations. (4)
By age 21, the average gamer will have logged 10,000 hours of playing time. (5, 6)
It’s clear that we have a problem. But are we addicted?
The Basis of Addiction—and What the Science Says about Tech
While the concept of addiction has historically been associated with substance abuse, behavioral addictions like gambling and now technology are becoming increasingly widespread and recognized. Though tech addiction isn’t currently in the DSM-5 (Diagnostic and Statistical Manual of Mental Disorders, 5th ed.), psychologists say we’re headed in that direction, and just this year, the World Health Organization added “gaming disorder” to its International Classification of Diseases. (7, 8, 9)
Behavioral addictions arise when a person can’t resist an action that, despite addressing a deep psychological need in the short term, produces significant harm in the long run.
Every addiction, no matter its lure, pulls us out of the present moment—away from important real-world activities—and technology is no different. Each time we check our inbox or social media account, there’s a chance something will be there for us, something that reinforces an aspect of who we think we are and releases a hit of that “feel-good” neurotransmitter dopamine. I’d need another entire article to go into it in detail, but trust me on this: tech designers pull from a deep bag of tricks to trigger dopamine and manipulate our brains in order to maximize the time we spend on our devices.
Any time the reward centers of the brain are engaged, there’s the potential for addictive behavior. Technology use activates the same regions of the brain and is fueled by the same basic human needs as drugs and alcohol: social engagement and support, mental stimulation, and a sense of effectiveness. It also shares the same key characteristics of substance-abuse disorders, meeting clinical criteria such as excessive use, tolerance, withdrawal, and negative repercussions. (10, 11)
Several neuroimaging studies have shown that heavy gamers and internet users experience abnormal changes in brain matter similar to those with substance addictions. (12, 13)
Nearly 80 percent of online gamers suffer a loss in at least one area of their lives as a result of excessive use, whether work, education, friendships, family, or romantic relationships. (14)
Researchers have found that when heavy internet users go offline, they suffer withdrawal symptoms, such as dramatic mood shifts, like those experienced by drug users. (15)
How a Technology Addiction Hurts Your Health
Unfortunately, these stats are only the tip of the iceberg when it comes to the myriad ways in which technology addiction can negatively impact your well-being. Although many factors can affect physical and mental health, the following outcomes could be symptoms of a dangerous tech fixation.
It May Lead to Anxiety and Depression
A large body of scientific evidence has linked tech addiction—especially smartphone dependency, problematic internet use, and gaming—with anxiety and depression. (16, 17, 18, 19) Most distressing, some studies suggest teenagers are especially prone to developing these disorders as a result of tech overuse, and that tech dependence could even be contributing to adolescent suicide rates, perhaps driven by extreme cyberbullying, public shaming, and other emotionally abusive social behaviors that have been well documented. (20, 21)
It Makes You Distracted—Really Distracted
In one systematic review of previously published research, 100 percent of included studies reported a correlation between problematic internet use and symptoms of ADHD. (22) In another, internet addiction was associated with more severe ADHD symptoms than control groups. (23) We’re living in an ADHD culture, yet the ability to ignore distractions and control where our attention is directed is crucial to health and happiness.
It Saps Your Sleep
Not only can the anxiety and depression brought on by tech addition result in sleep problems, but the artificial “blue” light emitted by computer screens and cell phones is known to suppress the production of melatonin, resulting in sleeplessness. (24)
And That’s Not All
Excessive screen time is also linked to: (25)
Obesity
Eye problems, including eyestrain and dry eye
Hearing damage
Musculoskeletal symptoms like “text neck”
Injuries and accidents
I believe technology use is very likely associated with other health impacts as well, though the links aren’t as clearly established yet in the literature.
Using smartphones appears to stimulate the fight-or-flight response and decrease the rest-and-digest response. These changes to the nervous system and associated stress hormones are connected with virtually all chronic diseases.
Seven Ways to Reduce Your Smartphone and Technology Use
Whether you have a full-fledged tech addiction or not, your mind and body will thank you for reducing your reliance on devices. Here are seven steps for doing just that.
Step #1: Assess Your Current Usage
Start by taking this Smartphone Compulsion Test to get an idea of where your tech habit currently stands. You can also use these two apps help you track your usage: Moment on iOS and BreakFree for Android. They track how many times you pick up your phone and how many hours you use it, and they compare those metrics with your goals. Both also have features that reduce usage. (And you may not even need to download an app. Recent updates of iOS, for instance, include a “screen time” widget that tracks nearly every aspect of your phone usage.)
Step #2: Cultivate Awareness
If we aren’t aware of our behavior, it’s impossible to change it. Consider beginning a meditation or mindfulness practice to train your attention so you’re less likely to get distracted by technology and are more able to catch yourself sooner when you do. Apps such as Headspace and Calm and wearables such as HeartMath and Muse are good options.
Step #3: Turn Off All Nonessential Notifications
Notifications are interruptions. Allowing them essentially gives your phone permission to interrupt you at any time, under any circumstance. I suggest turning off all notifications except phone calls and, if you want, text messages and calendar updates. If your work requires you to respond promptly to some emails, consider using an email app that allows you to assign VIP status to certain people so that you’ll only receive notifications from them.
Step #4: Uninstall Social Media Apps Entirely
If they aren’t on your phone, you’re far less likely to use them. Don’t worry: you can still check social media using a web browser, and uninstalling apps doesn’t have to be permanent, but it can be very helpful early on when you’re trying to reduce your usage. I also recommend “batching” your social media and email use, meaning checking your email and social accounts just two or three times daily. As a bonus, batching often provides a boost to your productivity.
Step #5: Create Phone-Free Areas in Your Home
Most importantly, never bring your phone into your bedroom. The bedroom should be for sleep and sex only, to foster good sleep hygiene. The dinner table is another important one; it’s where conversation and connection happen. As part of this step, you may want to rethink where you charge your phone. I recommend a spot near the front door or somewhere else out of sight—not your nightstand.
Step #6: Schedule a Regular Tech Time-Out
This is a period of time when you don’t interact with your phone, computer, tablets, or any screens. We do this every Sunday in our house. (Weekends are ideal if you follow a Monday–Friday work week.) It allows us to spend quality time together and makes space for reading, time in nature, and other activities. I always feel rejuvenated and refreshed afterward. If one full day sounds intimidating at first, start with half a day.
Step #7: Do Digital Detoxes
Longer than tech time-outs, digital detoxes give you the opportunity to experience yourself in the world around you unmediated by technology’s influence. I do three- to four-day digital detoxes quarterly and one or two 10-day digital detoxes per year. I look forward to these times when I can deeply relax, connect with myself and my family, and enter the mindset in which creativity and innovation occur. For more on the importance of digital detoxes and how to do them right, check out my podcast.
If you have a serious dependence on technology, I encourage you to seek help and to consider working with a health coach. Many health coaches, as well as therapists and counselors, already specialize in treating technology addictions. Know that technology dependence isn’t a personal failing. Human beings are biologically designed to seek new information and be distracted, and every app, online service, website, and so forth is geared to take advantage of this bias. The circumstances of this digital age are more conducive to addiction than any other time or place in human history.
It’s up to you to decide what you want from technology, not the other way around! You can take control of how you focus your attention and spend your time, and if you have kids—who are growing up with more technology each day—you can set a healthy example starting now.
What are your thoughts on technology addictions? Have you tried to reduce your (or your family’s) tech use in the past, or are you planning to cut down on your screen time? Tell me below in the comments!

Put the Frenchman in a midfield three subsequent to the classy duo of Mesut Ozil and Andres Iniesta, then consider yourself part of the FIFA bourgeoisie. Before contemplating Beckham’s footballing capacity, one should tackle the gorgeous elephant in the room: with the brand new "icon stories" function we'd get not one however three of his hairstyles throughout the years. That alone is worth his inclusion. However Beckham is also one of the most decorated English players of all time. He’d be a high card in FIFA, which virtually makes that rock star persona pale compared to his footballing means. Just imagine these crosses, free-kicks and finesse photographs. Plus, given the likelihood that FIFA returns Ryan Giggs, Paul Scholes, George Finest, Ruud van Nistelrooy, Phil Neville (!) and extra from FIFA 17 as Icons, Beckham would let you're taking one step nearer to manufacturing an all-time United squad. Speaking of Manchester United legends, Cantona is another icon we’d love to see in FIFA 18. The collar-popping Frenchman scored 82 targets in five seasons at United, winning the Premier League 4 times and FA Cup twice.

There are still 1000's of gamers who play on final-gen expertise – especially provided that a new console costs upwards of £200. It’s not the first time last-gen avid gamers have had a parred down version of a blockbuster game. FIFA 17 was massively parred down for Xbox 360 and Ps3 – because the hardware wasn’t in a position to use the newer Frostbite know-how (It was powered by Ignite – the FIFA sixteen engine on last gen). So, will it look better on current-gen platforms? Briefly, sure – but don’t anticipate a huge improvement.
FIFA 18 is arriving in three principal editions: an ordinary model which prices £54.99 on PS4 and Xbox One, along with Ronaldo Version and Icon Version, that are more expensive though costs differ throughout retailers. The Ronaldo Edition for PS4 is at present listed at £74.99 on Amazon. The Ronaldo and Icon Editions feature unique bonuses, including packs for FUT, and particular edition kits. FIFA 18 cover star: Who's on the box? This year's FIFA star is Actual Madrid's Cristiano Ronaldo. FIFA 18 platforms: What can I play it on? As per FIFA 17, the PS3 and Xbox 360 versions will be operating on the outdated Ignite engine, and will not function the one-player story mode, The Journey. FIFA 18 gameplay: What is the state of the sport? Alex Hunter returning: The Journey story mode was a preferred function of last year's version, and it's coming back for FIFA 18. How high will you help Alex Hunter soar? That’s practically 5 million greater than the finale of season six of Sport of Thrones, so it’s no surprise it’s coming again with a brand new six-chapter story. While it shares the identical title as its PlayStation and Xbox counterparts, EA's FIFA 18 for Nintendo's Change is a very completely different beast and that's mostly a good thing. Whereas it is not built using the Frostbite engine, so does not look as impressive as its different incarnations, FIFA on Change makes full use of the console's portable charms. You'll be able to play in your Television or in tabletop mode, and each offer up a stable sport of football. Even when you are utilizing two Joy-Cons as particular person controllers. Except for a few minor tweaks, the sport's mechanics are almost identical to 'proper' FIFA whether or not you are swinging in a nook or lobbing a via ball excessive of Chelsea's defence. Nearly all the game modes you'd count on are included too, together with Final Team, seasons and pleasant, so this is not a recreation you will solely play while caught on a practice. The Journey is missing as a result of graphical constraints, but we reckon you get enough versitility in return to make up for Alex Hunter's absence.
Whenever there is actually a goal, some crowd can move closer to the pitch. Why do you need coins? FIFA is just a very exciting sport. But it needs a staff to play the sport and to acquire more coins. From the FIFA 18, you’ll desire more coins to employ the perfect players for the workforce. Should you want to have a superb workforce together with all of the celebrities, then you will want extra coins. FIFA 18 can have some contemporary methods and tools that will assist the players for further coins. You’ll have some simple and authorized process to deserve the FIFA coins. For the every sport, you’ll really have a certain amount of these coins being a reward for the successful which goes to be strictly dependent on the involvement. You’re going to probably be allowed to play your favourite games and also to earn a living by the involvement. Attentions are turning to FIFA 18 because the 2016-17 season attracts to a close. However it’s been out for greater than seven months; there’s little players haven’t achieved in FIFA 17. So, as EA Sports activities put together to promote their new sport, it’s time to get enthusiastic about what new features will probably be included. The corporate has announced it plans to enhance The Journey and Final Crew, however gamers would love to see some new options included. A 5-a-facet option, maybe, or the power to begin your own crew in career mode. We are going to continue to drive innovation and competitors in our EA Sports franchises," a press release to buyers learn. FIFA 18 will build on the muse we created with story mode this year, bringing gamers again to The Journey with Season 2, featuring new characters and new storylines.
