dua lipa: genesis (I have been obsessed with the decision to start your debut album with a track titled genesis for years at this point), homesick (this is another song that I played on repeat for a hot minute but not the extreme of vanilla twilight), these walls (an instant standout to me on my first listen of radical optimism), boys will be boys (should be listed under "songs I listened to so much in 2020"), blow your mind (mwah) (probably my favorite dua song shes put out thus far)

as a half-time (glg) pens fan I'm overall at peace with the situation. I'm sure kyle has had the conversation with sid and I think it's gonna be nice to see him/the core in their last years full circle usher in a new generation of players, especially knowing how competitive he still is and that he's choosing (CHOOSING! it's his choice) loyalty over another possible run with a different team. also I'm pretty sure sully wanted to keep going / retool slightly meanwhile kyle is set on a proper rebuild and that's why they parted ways. it's pretty easy to read between the lines. despairing over the situation seems a little unreasonable, although I get it from an emotional perspective. within the next three years these guys will be gone and this season has been the first clear indicator of things ending for some people.

oh i definitely the emotional aspect and i get wanting to see competition, but youre so right about sid choosing the loyalty and longevity over going somewhere else and i think that's the sweet thing about it. you gotta respect it (ppl who act like theyre OWED competitive crosby like who tf are you... hes not a robot, its his decision) like what a career there. also i just think with the revival of international comp... getting 4 nations and to see him at worlds and the olympics next year like there's plenty of competitive hockey. even the regular season itself .... there will be some fun and great games, that's the beautiful thing abt sports.

Now...if this card is the official final card, be interesting to see how Jake Lee and Jack Morris will interact with each other. Same thing with Go Shiozaki and Katsuhiko Nakajima as the N-1 Victory inches closer to reality. Both GLG Members as well as the team of AXIZ are slated to face each other (Lee vs. Morris) (Shiozaki vs. Nakajima) in block competition this year.

Lastly...this event will be Kaito Kiyomiya's last match for Pro Wrestling NOAH until September 3rd due to him appearing in NJPW's G1 Climax Tournament starting on July 15th. It'll be interesting to see if anyone else from his block besides Yota Tsuji makes a surprise appearance. After this Sunday, all but Kiyomiya will be free from competing until G1 Climax begins on July 15th in Sapporo. At the same time, this will also be the Pro Wrestling NOAH debut for Adam Brooks who is slated to be a part of the N-1 Victory Tournament starting on August 6th.

yessss i rlly wanna write a coffee shop AU but i just havent gotten around to it. im so much more of a canon-focused writer and while i have a lot of modern AU ideas i just feel so much more motivated to write in the canon setting so the coffee shop has been on the back burner for.... god so long

21. What is the one fic that got away?

any of the HP stuff i had planned, including the GaaLee Hogwarts AU. i just... cannot see myself engaging with HP again like that given the person jkr is. so chasing fate (harry/draco fic), survivor's heart (h/d fic sequel to unextinguished good), and heartbreak curses (the glg hogwarts au) are like the top three that got away. Chasing Fate was meant to be a deconstruction of the soulmate trope (a trope i hate), and i think im honestly the most bummed about that. ive got like the first 4 chapters/30k+ written but.... it'll never see the light of day

SCC Holds Uber Arbitration Clause is ‘Unconscionable’

The Supreme Court of Canada has determined that an arbitration clause contained in thousands of contracts between the ridesharing app Uber and its drivers is ‘unconscionable’. In a highly anticipated decision called Uber Technologies Inc. v. Heller, Canada’s highest court has spoken on what many considered to be an unfair term in a contract affecting thousands of ‘gig economy’ workers across the country.

What is an Arbitration Clause?

Often, business and employment contracts will contain a clause which sets out the method for resolving disputes that may arise from the contractual relationship. Often, in an effort to keep litigation costs down, the parties may wish to pre-determine the venue for dispute resolution in advance, setting arbitration as the chosen method over litigation. This can assist with preventing long-running and potentially more costly litigation in the future, however, it may not always be in equal favour for every party to the contract.

In the Uber case, for example, the contract stipulated that any disputes must not only be settled via arbitration but that the arbitration must take place before the International Chamber of Commerce (ICC) which is located in the Netherlands. The case began when a driver for Uber Eats, a food delivery subsidiary of the ridesharing company, wanted to bring a class-action lawsuit against the company to force it to classify drivers as ’employees’ rather than ‘independent contractors’ and provide them with benefits set out under the Employment Standards Act (ESA). The company requested a stay of the class-action suit while the parties awaited a decision on the venue issue. If the courts allowed the arbitration clause to stand, those seeking to enforce ESA protections would have had no choice but to take the matter to the ICC, at considerable expense.

Mixed Messages from Ontario Courts

Ontario courts have had mixed reactions to various arbitration clauses in past cases, with some being enforced (particularly with respect to shareholder agreements) and others being scrapped. For example, the case at hand had mixed results in the lower courts, with the original motions judge siding with Uber and dismissing the employees’ case. However, the Ontario Court of Appeal found that the contract, as written, amounted to a contracting-out of mandatory employment standards legislation in the province. In particular, it deprived drivers for Uber and Uber Eats of the right to bring a complaint before the Ministry of Labour. Uber then appealed the matter to the Supreme Court.

In the case at hand, the SCC found that in order to participate in arbitration before the ICC, an employee would first be required to pay administrative fees of $14,500 USD, in addition to other expenses, including travel to the Netherlands. For many Uber employees, this amount represented the bulk of their annual salary. Further, the bargaining power between Uber and its drivers was unequal. On June 20, 2023 Pro Wrestling NOAH held a press conference for these following topics:

Naomichi Marufuji's big announcement

Contract signing for the GHC Junior Tag Team Championship taking place on June 22nd in Korakuen Hall

The first pre-match meeting for Kento Miyahara and Katsuhiko Nakajima

We start off with Naomichi Marufuji's big announcement. When NOAH announced that he was going to have a big announcement, many including myself fear the worse. Not the case as Marufuji announced that on September 17th in Korakuen Hall, there will be an anniversary event honoring his debut in Pro Wrestling. The event is called "CLEANUP INTERNATIONAL presents Naomichi Marufuji 25th Anniversary Tournament". Details behind the event as well as tickets sales will be available once they're made. When asked about what match to expect, he said that he'll fill the arena with one big match announcement. Many are expecting that announcement to be him going one-on-one against Will Ospreay. Again, all we know is that September 17th will be his anniversary event. Keep your eyes on social media for any updates on ticket sales and matches.

Second was the official contract signing for the GHC Junior Tag Team Championship taking place on June 22nd as GLG's Tadasuke and YO-HEY will make their third title defense against Stinger's Chris Ridgeway and Daga.

It was quite surprising that the challenger team showed up to the press conference for it is rare for Stinger members to even be at the press but again, different situation when Ogawa is not involved. After the contract was signed, all four were given a mic to give any last pre-match comments before Thursday.

Daga went first in which he has stated that him and Chris Ridgeway are here to prove that they're the best tag team in all of NOAH. Then Chris Ridgeway talked about how Daga came to be a part of Stinger and their history leading to it. The champion team spoke next in which Tadasuke revealed things haven't gone their way but on Thursday, things will be different. Both him and YO-HEY are under the belief they'll successfully defend the titles on Thursday. The video above are highlights from the press conference.

Again, title defense takes place on June 22nd as part of Episode 5 of "Star Navigation 2023" at 6:30 PM Local Time/5:30 AM Eastern/4:30 AM Central/2:30 AM Pacific from Korakuen Hall. It'll be streamed on ABEMA with Japanese Commentary and Wrestle Universe with English Commentary.

Lastly, we have the press conference to officially announce the match of Katsuhiko Nakajima and AJPW's Kento Miyahara set to take place on July 15th in Korakuen Hall as part of "One Night Dream". Down below is the new graphic for their match.

Both gave their opening comments where Miyahara said that this match has nothing do with the companies that they work for, it has to do with how they stand in today's wrestling. He believes he has the upper hand while some online polls believe that to be Nakajima. On July 15th, we'll have the answer as to who has the upper hand. Unlike Miyahara, who had to be somewhat dramatic in his opening statement, Katsuhiko Nakajima was quick to the point in which he is looking forward to his first singles match against Miyahara in a long time. The last time these two wrestled in singles competition was 2012 in which that was a TKO win by Nakajima. Them meeting at the Tokyo Dome back on February 21st in that 6-man tag was their first encounter since then (unless someone tells me otherwise).

After giving opening statements, both were asked questions about the match and what to expect from their upcoming bout on July 15th. Both then agreed that their match should be contested under "no time limit". It's unknown at this time if there must be a winner but this match between the two will have no time limit. After the questioning was done, both posed for pictures when right after that, this happened:

A strong slap from Kento Miyahara to Katsuhiko Nakajima had Nakajima seemingly knocked out but not completely as he was able to get up under his own power despite those around him wanting to help him get up. Didn't see it live but after Nakajima got up from that slap, he had a smile on his face in which he tweeted this down below.

"Harite kiita wa..." is the romanization of what he said which can be roughly translated as "it worked". Whatever game plan Nakajima had to get this match to happened worked mostly because of that smile on his face after the slap.

Miyahara also commented after the slap stating almost the same thing he said when the match was announced:

The one difference...what he said in the final sentence. In romanization Miyahara states "Kisha kaiken no harite wa, supasuta Miyahara Kenta kara puroruesu-kai no fansabaisuda" which I can somehow roughly translate as what we saw was highlights for his fan service.

Al & Joan Hiebert have graciously allowed us to live out here in their cabin next to their Hotshop, for a reduced living cost in exchange for help around the place! Megan and I were thrilled at the opportunity and wasted no time in moving out here. In the Hotshop they are setup with 2 glory holes for hot glass, and a furnace with several kilns, some they built themselves! they have a room dedicated for pottery, as well as another for woodwork. As well as a blacksmith shop! Theres even a rock climbing wall! There is always much going on out here throughout the year as classes are held here for the various arts!
