i finally watched umi e and lest to say. i am a mess
#given anime#ru.rambles#the portrayal of grief in given is so raw and remains one of my favourites simply bc of how close to home it hits#one of the hardest parts abt losing someone is—forgetting. the fact that you'll keep forgetting things without even realising. it's scary.#i haven't seen many media (yet) that describe this aspect of grief so well; but given does and it doesn't sugarcoat that hopelessness#yet gives such a bittersweet but hopeful message — that; no matter what tears people apart; love persists; and will continue to do so#and all we can do in the face of time and death and the already gone past and the daunting future is to hold on to what we have now#because even this present will be a distant memory someday — and regardless of whether you remember it all the emotions will remain#the warmth and love will remain#even if it's stored faraway in a small corner of your heart; when you come looking for it someday; you will find its flame still flickering#even if the flame flickers no more — that burnt out wick itself is proof that it did burn once; that the love was there; and it left a mark#augh
