day 100000 of me seeing a post about 'care/whumpers' and thinking 'that is literally just a whumper who is nice sometimes. you are literally just describing a whumper'
#trying to avoid it going into any tags for people who enjoy the concept#once again i am so viscerally uncomfortable with the way people talk abt this...#idk. trope. archetype. whatever. like that's just a whumper#who isn't beating the fuck outta whumpee 24/7#since when does whumper exclude someone who has 'good intentions'#or is nice sometimes#or thinks they're doing what's best#that's like- idk. it's very...#there is a way this community uses this term that is so heavily abuse apologistic that it's#very very uncomfortable and alarming for me as an abuse survivor#what about any kind of care meaningfully makes the abuse inflicted not abuse#or less abuse or more of a 'grey area'#go on i'll wait#gav gab#it's not like 'intimate whumper' or 'scientist whumper' or whatever#it's not an adjective modifying whumper#it is posited as a distinctly separate thing#from both whumper and caretaker as situaitonal roles#and the only thing differentiating it as far as i can see#is they're Nice Sometimes#or they don't MEAN to do the harm they do#and it's like. idk#saying that makes them somehow partially a caretaker#who are may i remind not Perfect People Who Never Do Wrong#but are a narrative role within a situation that is set contrary to the harm caused#is like#that's really really disturbing to me and says some frightening things about how people using the term may see abuse#fiction is not reality blah blah i know#but the way this is framed and approached#speaks to some unconscious biases about abuse

lucanis is a 'I could sit in our quiet kitchen on a grey tuesday afternoon drinking coffee and talking with you about nothing much in particular forever and be the happiest man who ever lived' romantic, not a 'classic tropes and grand gestures' romantic. this is a distinction and conceptual gap I personally feel is crucial to understanding what's going on with him when romanced. for all his almost painful sincerity and clear depth of feeling he's not a very effusive guy by nature, but in the history of time no one has ever, with their whole soul, chest and being, been so genuinely and openly happy to just do laundry and taxes with you.

i think about a new theoretical video essay idea at least every 3 months but one that's stuck with me is a theoretical video called 'ranking lichens in the background shots of [media]' and it's exactly what you think but i only pick dramatic scenes outdoors so i can pause them to zoom in on 3 pixels of lichens in the background

I really do think a lot about how Bobby affirmed Eddie made a good parenting choice when Eddie brought Chris to the firehouse in Stuck. Eddie has had to deal with his own parents being like, “you are not good for him, you don’t know him, don't drag him down” and then Bobby hears Eddie say, “I didn’t know where to take him” and he IMMEDIATELY says, “yeah, you did, right here." and it's a small moment that gets overlooked. But like...Eddie is probably expecting another person to tell him all the ways he's bad bad not good enough bad for Chris. And Bobby is like, "nah, you knew. you're his dad and you knew to take him here." That must have been SO relieving to Eddie.

Diomedes really cranked the "simp-o-meter for Odysseus" from 0 to 12 in approximately 0.6 seconds in book 10 (choose ur spy buddy) and im snort-laughing.
Partially because of how Unnecessarily Extra Diomedes is.
And then even more so because of how Extremely Done Odysseus is in his reply (every time he uses the "long-suffering Odysseus" epithet i fucking DIE laughing. I can FEEL the -_-)
But also, because I feel like the opposite is more typical (Odysseus having the flowery flattering speeches and Diomedes just, like, "read at 2pm"-ing him in return):
I am choosing to headcanon that Dio is very subtly/very gently teasing/mocking Odysseus. And that Ody has done the "oh i pick Diomedes the incredible, the unmatchable, unwinnable force of the gods' will!!!" thing to him recently and Dio is now just throwing it back at him in a "do u hear what u sound like when u talk???" Kind of way.
Which is why Ody is peak "i am Unamused by this, diomedes" in the scene. Because he knows he's being gently roasted in a way the others likely won't pick up on/which is Just For Him.
