Ever wondered what an Oracle Ascension coin looked like? Ardyn throws one at Noctis the first time he visits Galdin Quay and I managed to photograph it with Ansel. On one side there is an image of a woman in profile wearing a cloth head covering, presumably a past Oracle. On the other side are three sylleblossoms tied with a ribbon and the word Tenebrae. The coin looks tiny in Gladio's hand and it has no monetary value, outside of trading with the man in Altissia, but it's very pretty nonetheless. All images copyright Square Enix Co Ltd.

Okay let's imagine, for a minute, about Noctis who didn't manage to escape the fire in Tenebrae. Regis lost his grip, Noctis tried to squirm out of his hold to get to Luna, something. And for the next eight years, Noctis is raised as a ward of the Empire alongside Luna and Ravus, with all the gristly details that implies because Niflheim finally has their hands on the crown prince of their hated enemy.
The story starts with Noctis' long awaited return to Insomnia at the hands of Lieutenant Drautos when he's sixteen, eight long, long years after the tragic fire that took Queen Sylvia's life. There's been some paper thin excuse about Noctis staying in the Empire for "goodwill" but everyone knows that he's been a hostage, and the kingdom is ecstatic to have their prince back.
The big reunion between beloved father and son, and it's shattered when Noctis, in a polite, quiet Tenebrae accent, asks, "Do I know you, sir?" (Because that's not what his father looked like. That's not the dad who abandoned him, is it? He's too old, surely--)
The prince that's returned to them is a stranger. Neatly combed back hair, a fondness for Tenebrae white colors, soft spoken lilting accent and impeccable manners that betray nothing of what he thinks. It's only in private, when Ignis and Gladio desperately try to get him to open up and maybe talk to them that Noctis admits that he wants to go home, to his brother and sister. The best he can do is send letters with the Messengers, a small, fluffy black dog that Ignis swears wasn't there yesterday.
We cut between Ravus, Luna, and Noctis as the letters pass hands. Ravus, having been pressured into being in the military at eighteen so he could no longer protect his little siblings, traces over the harsh stroke of the pen in Noct's letters in the privacy of his tiny cabin. Luna scribbling out her loneliness and exhaustion over being the world's youngest Oracle for four years now, saying how much she misses the comforting weight of her little brother following her around during her duties.
The Ravus we find here is harder on the outside, but fiercely protective of Luna and Noctis. His hatred for Regis is even more intense, because how dare that man abandon his own son, yet banked even further down because he cannot afford to let these emotions show when he needs to protect them. It's not just that Luna is his precious little sister -- their mother wasn't done healing Noctis before she perished, and Noctis could only rely on them. Ravus is the only one who knows that the Empire was going to kill the boy, and it was only his quick thinking that convinced General Glauca to spare Noctis as a hostage.
Luna is more tired, more worn down. Not only is she the youngest Oracle with an impossible task, she did everything she possibly could to make sure Noctis traveled with her retinue so she could keep an eye on him and make sure the Empire didn't touch him. And now that he's gone, whisked away back to his "home", she finds herself working even harder just to cope with the loneliness.
Noctis is... well. He copes, as best he can, being a stranger in his own 'home' with chronic pain and no one knowing what really happened. Even his magic is different, leans more towards healing and the like rather than traditional Lucian faire, uses a rapier like his older brother when he goes to spar. Spends time with his dog, with Ignis trying to get him to want to meet with his father, training with Gladio in the ring and trying not to flinch at how big he is (not his fault, he's just. Big like Glauca.), tentatively making friends with Cor's hyperactive blonde kid named Prompto...
It isn't until Gladio sees Captain Drautos 'checking in' on the Prince that things start to change. Drautos now has sway over the Glaives and the Crownsguard, the gratitude of the King Himself, so long as Prince Noctis keeps his mouth shut about what happened while he was being "rescued" from General Glauca. Except Noctis talks back to the Captain now that it's just him, he doesn't have to worry about his siblings getting hurt, just himself really.
Gladio charges, because even if that's a little shit of a guy that's his Prince who's being slapped around. He doesn't have a hope in hell against someone like Titus Drautos, let alone General Glauca, being only eighteen and new to the whole 'shield' thing. Gets his shit wrecked, his eye nearly cut open, and his life held against Noctis to scare them both into keeping Drautos' secret.
Gladio, while he's being patched up on Ignis' bathtub, is adamant that they tell the king and the council, while Noctis pleads that they can't or Glauca will find a way to punish Luna and Ravus. Ignis informs him that it will be happening, because this is no longer just a threat to them but a threat to the whole kingdom.
We cut to the chocobros watching as Prince Ravus and Princess Lunafreya are welcomed into Insomnia, only to have their introductions interrupted by Noctis' excited shout of their names and practically warping over to them to hug them stupid. Drautos is imprisoned now, things are starting to look up for the first time for the Fleuret siblings in ... so, so long.
I think the primary fic would end there, but I'd probably want to have oneshots set after, about the adjusting period, and how things wrap up. Something something the abuse that the kids were subjected to gets to light and has the Empire's citizens up in arms over the treatment of the beloved Oracle, Lucis uses it as a way to force Niflheim into a peace treaty. Another oneshot from the pov of someone who only knows Ravus as a battlefield commander, seeing him turn all soft and doting on Luna and Noctis. Maybe dig into how Noctis and Luna traveled around under the guard of Glauca, how it's just as much threatening as it is teasing the Lucis spies who can't get close enough to set Noctis free...
I think about this au often, if you can't tell,
[Put "📓" or some other version of a book emoji into my inbox and I'll explain the plot of a fanfiction that I haven't written but daydream about.]

Day One :: Beauty
Done for the @daily-writing-challenge. Because I like challenges.
--
While Noctis is away during his meeting with the First Secretary of Accordo, Prompto approaches one of two Arms of the King. Given everything that happened to Insomnia and that being the last place he saw her, he is eager for the opportunity to catch up. Especially since it seems that those he cares about most could slip through his fingers at any moment.
Word Count: 808
"So, Prim…" Prompto started, drumming his hands against his thighs as he walked forward. He was soon standing side by side with Primam at the railing overlooking the waters. She had not met his gaze, only continued to stare out toward the cascading falls beyond that created a mist along the cliffs of Altissia. Looking over Primam, Prompto chewed on the inside of his mouth while he took in the fact that she had this weariness about her.
"The brown hair is…new…" Prompto continued, having wanted to comment on it for a while. It was then that Primam finally looked over at him.
"Yeah…" Primam began in response. She leaned one arm on the railing and looked at Prompto more directly. "Tan and I decided it was for the best to dye our hair while we were with the Lady Oracle. For her safety while Niflheim scoured the lands for us since their narrative wouldn't have worked if we were alive and well."
Slowly, Prompto nodded. It made sense. "Right… Your leucism…"
Reaching up, Primam held up a lock of brown hair and scoffed slightly. She rolled the lock between her fingers.
"I mean…it looks more natural and prettier this way, doesn't it?" There was this disingenuous intonation to Primam's words. Even if she tried to feign a smile, Prompto noticed a distant look in her eyes in addition to her tone. Reading her facial expressions had come more more easily when he had so many photos of their friend group to pick out when there was more to their expressions than met the eye. "No one gives me weird looks anymore when they just see…a normal girl with normal hair."
'Normal'.
Prompto was brought back to a previous discussion he had with Tandem about that. That nothing about them was normal and that it never would be normal. The adventures both their groups must have undergone was proof of that — at the very least, the trip with Ignis, Gladio, and Noctis was absolutely proof of that.
"I kinda liked the white more… I mean, I have since we were all the way in school. Just…it's…you…" Prompto truthfully replied. He crossed his arms over the railing, leaning on it and looking out over the water. "But if you like it, then…" he shrugged, "That's what matters more, right?"
Prompto did not want to push the issue if she still felt some sense of shame or self-consciousness over it.
The lapping of the water filled the air between the two of them along with the murmur of Altissia's residents going about their day behind them. Both of them had their attention cast out past the waters again, simply remaining in each other's silent company.
"… I can probably grow it out again," Primam finally said with a neutral sigh. She looked over at Prompto, a more genuine smile growing on her lips. She then bumped her shoulder against his and teased him gently, "I didn't think you'd be that concerned about it."
Prompto felt his ears and cheeks flush before he waved a hand at Primam dismissively with a grin. "Me? Psh! I mean…what? I've known you since we were ten! The brown is just…it's jarring! I can get used to it if you like it more!"
Both of them laughed gently alongside one another, and when they eventually settled, Primam rested her shoulder against his. Her weight was this affectionate pressure against him, and Prompto felt himself leaning into her. All things considered—
"It's been so damn long since we could just hang out…" Primam said. She leaned her head over and rested it against his shoulder.
"Months on the road and at sea, doing our own things…" Prompto concurred, recounting the different trials and tribulations he was part of and witnessed Noctis have to go through. His expression faltered after a moment and he moved to look at Primam more directly. He searched her face, tempted to reach out and place his hands upon her shoulders. It just still felt so surreal and relieving to have her standing there in front of him.
To hells with it.
Prompto pulled Primam into a hug and just held her close.
"… I'm…" Prompto began, his cheerful and sunny mask melting away. "I'm glad you're safe, Prim…"
Primam's own arms hovered for a long moment before she finally wrapped her arms around him. The beauty of Altissia faded away and was simply replaced by the beauty of being reunited with her best friend — her best friend that must have been worried sick about her and the others who remained in Insomnia during the fall. Closing her eyes, she buried her head against his collar as she tightened her hold on him.
"I'm glad you're safe, too," Primam quietly replied, her voice muffled against his vest.

I really like your crossover art of Link, Zelda and the Final Fantasy 15 cast! It's such a unique concept I hadn't seen anywhere before. What other headcanons do you have about the knight and princess of Hyrule interacting with the Chocobros and the Oracle?
Thank you so much!! I'm glad so many people think its as fun as I do~ I just love smashing my interests together sometimes haha I got a lot of different thoughts and I'm still working on getting a piece for each of them along with sketches <3 (hopefully to make a zine or at least have prints for each) Prompto will take pictures with Link and his shiekah slate and get up to chaos of course. Probably bad influences on eachother XD Gladio and Link would train and spar. I bet they would love to take down a Lynel & Behemoth's together!~ I havent drawn any sketches with Link and Noctis yet but I think they would definitely go shield boarding together. and they both have the commonality of being "asleep" for 10/100 years respectively. Their large arsenal of weapons they can bond over. Link is possibly jealous that Noctis gets 13 and also can warp. Noctis would be jealous right back about the bombs and time powers/magnesis etc. Link and Ignis can bond lots over food but I think they can also bond over being pretty stoic helpful/healthy guys! trying their best to do their job and care for the people they love. Horses/totk vehicles vs the Chocobos/the Regalia 😆 I also think about Gentiana = Impa (could also be urbosa) King Roham = Regis (regis is leagues above roahm tho oml) Cindy = Purah Cid = Robbie Iris = Mipha/riju Gladio = Daruk Ignis = Teba Arenea = Urbosa Prompto = Sidon Revali im like?? I guess Ravus haha obviously they dont all fit but its fun to think about Other similarities I randomly think about that make me emotional:
Also Umbra/Pryna and wolf link could also be friends! The god could be compared to the divine beasts
Thank you for the ask!

FFXV Fic Recommendations
Hello! I thought I’d share some of my favorite fics from my most favorite game. Will update with more when I read more. Thank you!
Set Thy Hidden Stars On Fire by MYuzuki (16k words)
This time, when Prompto wakes up to start a new loop, it’s raining.
Normally, this wouldn’t be a cause for concern (or even a blip on his radar, really) but this time he wakes up outside for some reason, which means he’s in the rain.
And as his luck would have it, it’s something of a downpour.
-
If you love Prompto, you’ll love this fic. It’s relatively short, but managed to have me still think about it nearly a year after reading. MYuzuki is a great author!
Salvation by cassisluna (11k words)
Nyx Ulric lives and accompanies Lunafreya across Lucis to wake the six. Written for the 2021 FFXV Reverse Bang.
As she travels to wake Titan and Ramuh, Luna is grateful for the time given to her to see the land of Lucis with her own eyes and feet.
Nyx promised the King that he would see Princess Lunafreya to Altissia, and it seems easy enough—until he learns the Oracle's price for forging the covenants. After that, it's just a matter of... maybe going off-route for a while to let the princess sight-see for a bit.
-
I love anything that expands upon Lunafreya’s character or Kingsglaive. This fic did not disappoint with that at all.
Worth The Risk by Asidian (6k words)
It's captivating. Prompto's probably going to have thirty-eight photos of it for them to relive the experience, in vivid detail, later on.
But Prompto's not taking pictures anymore, Noct realizes. The camera's stopped.
And when Noctis looks over to see what the matter is, Prompto's just staring through the view-finder, head angled up. He's gone absolutely sheet-white – looks like he might pass out. He says, "Noct," very softly, like it's a plea.
Then the world explodes, and something slams into Noctis with the force of a subway train, and everything goes dark.
-
I adore Asidian’s writing, especially for Prompto. This, and any of their other fics you should absolutely check out!
Honor Bound by The_Asset6 (125k words)
It’s still hard for Ignis, Gladio, and Prompto to believe that Noctis has been gone for a year. However, when an old ally appears to tell them that what is gone might not be lost after all, that spark of hope they kept alive during their ten years apart is rekindled. Their only question: what will they have to sacrifice this time in order to bring their brother back alive?
-
This fic focuses more on the bros rather than Noctis himself, and it was really nice to see from their POV how far they’d go to get Noct back. A longer read but didn’t drag, great fic!
Somnus Ultima by The_Asset6 (349k words)
King Regis and Queen Aulea’s desire for a child has finally been fulfilled, as well as their kingdom’s need for an heir to the throne. However, when a dark mage with a vendetta against Lucis blesses the young prince with a deadly curse, they realize that no sacrifice is too much when it comes to someone you love.
But too much, it turns out, is never enough.
-
A sleeping beauty AU! I won’t lie, this one is long, but it’s so worth it. I don’t typically like AU fics, preferring canon-compliant work, but I gave this one a chance and didn’t regret it. The author made great use of the characters and created a lengthy but not hard to read story that was very enjoyable.
Reliance, Resolve by Gnine (13k words)
"Where are you?"
Noct. Voice controlled, each word precise and even. In other words, pissed off to the point of seething. Prompto had obviously screwed up. Again. Seemed about all he was capable of doing lately when it came to Noct—and just about everything else.
-------
Prompto's self-reliant streak kicks into overdrive, sending his life into a tailspin.
-
A nice pre-game fic centered around Prompto, giving some insight to his and Noct’s relationship. Author tagged as pre-slash.

Littevi on Eos
(aka "Aspects of myself in Final Fantasy XV)
I have at least two OCs for FFXV that are dear to me. I have some more - friends and family for these two and people we don't meet in official material like the Nox Fleuret sibling's dad - but I will keep it to the two here.
Since I don't have many options to get pictures of them, there will be just two screenshots from the Comrades expansion for now
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
~ Nora Sophie Viridiere ~
tag: oc: Nora Viridiere
Age (during the Events of Kingsglaive): 27 years old
Birthday: November 17th
Place of origin: Tenebrae
Location during the events of Kingsglaive: Lestallum
Nora is my main OC. it all started with her and I'll be honest: she mainly exists because I wanted someone to save Ravus. I try to not make her a 'Mary Sue' and she has her flaws and isn't almighty, but ofc she is capable of certain things to manage to do what she has to do.
She is a childhood-friend of the Nox Fleuret Siblings and stayed in Tenebrae when her parents fled after the imperial attack. She accompanied Lunafreya on her travels as the Oracle and helped Ravus study for Niflheim's military school (my headcanon).
She fell in love with Ravus and was bethrothed to him, but left him/ran away after living in Gralea for a few weeks. She "ended up" in Lestallum and joined Meldacio until the events of the game brought her to Altissia. There she met Ravus again and things got rolling.
She followed him back to Gralea and they came back to Tenebrae and later to Lestallum.
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
~ Emilia Auxilie ~
tag: oc: Emilia Auxilie
Age (during the Events of Kingsglaive): 31 years old
Birthday: February 2nd
Place of origin: Insomnia
Location during the events of Kingsglaive: Lestallum
Emilia is a cousin of Gladio and was born in Insomnia. She was 8 years old when Gladio was born and initially had a close relationship with him. Later, as Gladio's training for his later task - to be the new king's sworn shield - took up more and more of his time, she felt more and more distanced from him in particular and the branch of the family being the closest to the royal family in general.
She practiced sword fighting from an early age on but left Insomnia when she was 20. She didn't agree with how Gladio was treated and since she couldn't change things, she left. She settled in Lestallum and shortly after, she joined Meldacio as she felt her skills could be put to better use there.
It was she who found the tired and wounded Nora after her escape from Niflheim and helped her settle into Lestallum - and hide from Imperial patrols for the first few months.

Final fantasy 15 is a game about devotion.
No wonder Gladio fails to resonate.
Ardyn is explicitly framed as having devotion to Aera and Somnus and the people of Lucis and the gods, only for it all to be leveraged against him and for him to turn against it all in kind.
Luna, beyond her dying breath, is devoted to her role as oracle, to her role as healer and eventually by extension to helping Noctis in saving the people she can no longer reach.
Ravus in turn was devoted to Luna, despite the dark path it led him down, he was ultimately sympathetic to the chocobros. Even if it was too little, too late.
Ignis and Prompto both are defined and altered by their devotion to Noctis, with Iggy’s knowing choice to wear the ring and Prompto using his devotion to Noctis to survive Nifilheim’s tundra and his time damseled in Gralea.
The Crownsguard are of course bound by devotion and though I haven’t seen Kingsglaive, I know Nyx pays for his devotion with his life.
Regis, even, puts his devotion to Lucis and Noctis over his own life.
But Gladio has never quite been devoted to Noctis. They’ve always butted heads, an issue that Gladio’s lack of understanding for Noctis on the train coupled with the backstory provided by Brotherhood exacerbates. He also never seems to significantly change over the story to go from almost antagonistic at times towards Noct to being able to genuinely see and respect him as a leader and a king (*looks pointedly at their fight on the train and the lack of any Gladio specific moments that really compare to Ignis or Prompto*). None of this is helped by the fact that in a vacuum, sure, Gladio is devoted to his role as shield, and to some degree Noctis, but at the same time he is not in a vacuum. Instead, he’s placed side by side with Prompto- and worse, Ignis, who outright knowingly put his life on the line to pick a fight with Ardyn just to keep Noctis safe. You know. GLADIO’S WHOLE FUCKING JOB THAT HES NEVER, NOT ONCE, ALLOWED TO DO AND NO IM NOT COUNTING THE BLOODHORN FIGHT WHEN THE PARTY IS LEVEL TWO
Ahem. Where were we?
Right. TLDR, reason number (what are we at?) five? Six? That Gladio got screwed over: he isn’t allowed devotion or allowed to develop devotion in a narrative where devotion where it is a load bearing component.
#nyx rambles#for the record#only three or so sentences of any given ramble are thought of at least 10 seconds before they hit the page#the rest are largely created as chain of thought#and then maybe backtracked over if I have the mental energy to run a counter argument in my head#but I’m out of energy for that#so it’s all madness tonight#and oh look more shitting on Gladio’s writing#gladiolus amicitia#ffxv#ff15#final fantasy 15#final fantasy xv#anywho imma go flop over in a heap

Bad things happen bingo request ^-^
FFXV - Go Through Me - Draucor
;)
I am so so sorry it took so long to do this one! But I hope I’ve done a good job with it!
I officially love to idea of Cid being a fatherly figure to Cor and I love the way I’ve made him tease Cor and Titus!
Ok, here we go, from my @badthingshappenbingo card, “Go Through Me”
A Request for Aid
It was rare that the Guard and Glaive were sent out on the same mission, but when a pack of Wyvern is harassing a certain mechanic and his garage in Leide, it is clear why the King would want the issue resolved, despite all the stress he was currently dealing with, at least, it was clear to the Marshal or the Crownsguard and one of the Glaive’s Lieutenants.
Cor and Titus watched Cid storm over to the Captain of the Kingsglaive, the Captain, who was Insomnian born, looked down his nose at Cid, clearly not happy being out of the city.
“The Captain is going to get his nose broke if he keeps looking at Cid like that” Titus whispered to Cor, who smirked
“It’ll be nice to see that arrogant fuck get knocked on his back, don’t you think?”
“You in charge ‘ere, Marshal?” Cid barked, Cor stepped up to the shorter, older man.
“I am Cid. Sorry about the delay, if it was up to me, we’d have been here 2 days ago” Cid went to say something, something Cor knew would involve insulting the King so quickly added, “it’s not His Majesty’s fault, and he and the Lord Shield send their regards.” Cid raised a brow before nodding to the Diner
“Come on, I’ll explain what’s been goin’ on, you too Titus,” Cid clapped Titus on the arm as he walked past, causing the Captain to splutter in disbelief.
“He is not the Captain here, Mr Sophiar, I am!” Titus stopped for a moment as Cid looked over his shoulder.
“And yet he looks more like a Captain than you do” Cid continued walking, making sure Titus was following him.
Once inside the Diner Cid pulled Cor into a strong hug.
“Good to see you here, Kid!” Cor’s arms were pinned to his sides by the older man, once Cid let go of Cor he looked over to Titus, “you doin’ well, Lad?” He asked, clapping Titus on the shoulder again.
“Yes, thank you, Cid”
“It’s good to see you too, Cid”
“So, why is it you’re all late? Reggie said you’d be right ‘ere?”
“That would be because of my Captain, Cid, he has a tendency to…”
“Fuck around before a deployment” Cor finished Titus’ sentence. “So, these Wyvern?”
“Dawn hunters, just as the sun rises, injured one of the Hunters pretty bad on the last attack”
“So our best bet is to wait until tomorrow morning then,” Cor looked over to Titus, who nodded
“I’ll fill the rest of them in” Titus nodded to Cid and left the Diner, once they were alone, Cid looked at Cor
“You still happy with him, Kid?” Cor rolled his eyes and smirked
“Yes, Cid, I am”
“So why aren’t you married yet?” Cor cursed under his breath and chuckled. Trust Cid to ask about his relationship.
“A lots been happening, especially recently,” with that comment, Cids smile faded
“How is the Prince?” He asked quietly
“Regis is taking him to Tenebrae next month, the Oracle has offered her aid, Titus and the other Glaive will be going too, as part of his security detail”
“But not you?”
“I’m looking after Gladio, Violet and Iris, I offered. Clarus trusts me the most with them”
“Am I talking to the same Cor Leonis I knew? Rowdy teen, always gettin’ into fights, hot headed idiot?”
“Oh he’s still there, Cid, he just needs the right situation to show up” Titus said with a smug grin on his face. “Everyone is ready, now we just need to wait until morning” Cid nodded, then ushered the 2 men to a nearby table
“I’ll get us dinner, we can have a proper catch up”
Cor rolled onto his back as his alarm sounded, if he was at home he would have rolled into Titus’ arms, but instead he felt the edge of the single bed Cid had let him use at the garage, he let out a groan, this was the part of being deployed on a mission that he hated, he really missed Titus at his side.
Once he was up, he joined the other members of the Guard and Glaive who were gathering in the forecourt of Hammerhead.
“Morning, Marshal” Cor smiled slightly as Titus walked over, handing Cor the second coffee he was holding
“Lieutenant Drautos,” he greeted his partner with a nod of his head, Titus took a sip of his coffee, just as Cid sauntered over and spoke
“Why do the pair of you hide the fact that you’re fuckin’?” Titus choked on his coffee and Cor felt heat rise to his face. Once Titus cleared his throat he looked back at Cid
“Couldn’t you have waited until I’d had a drink?” Titus coughed
“Where’s the fun in that? Seriously though, why do you keep your relationship secret?” Cor shrugged
“It’s easier,” he admitted, “we both like to keep it private, and we don’t want to deal with the accusations… people I work with don’t like the refugees, so the fact that I’m in a long term relationship with one… it’s just easier.”
“And I don’t want people asking intimate questions” Titus added, earning a raised brow from Cor, “what? You think I’m the only one interested? 3 of the mages swoon when you walk past.” Cor stared blankly at Titus as Cid burst out laughing.
“Marshal!” The Captain of the Kingsglaive stormed over “we’ve seen no sign of any Wyvern, this whole mission just seems like a waste of time” Cor looked at the Captain and was about to tell him to be patient when they all heard a screech.
“Ah, right on cue,” Cid huffed, the Captain returned to the members of the Glaive he’d brought with him and began barking orders, Cid caught Cor’s wrist as he went to do the same, “don’t get yourself killed, Kid” Cor gave Cid a nod and ran off to the Crownsguard.
The Wyverns were massive, their wingspan was easily 4 times Titus or Cor’s size and there were 5 of them! Titus was trying to bark orders to the other Glaive to use Blizzard spells instead of lightning, all while he was fighting the smallest of the 5 beasts alone, he managed to swing up onto its back, by imbedding his sword into its neck and jumping on. He felt the familiar cold sensation build up in his left hand as a Blizzard spell began to form. Titus had a natural gift with the magic granted to him by the King, if he wasn’t so skilled with a sword he’d have likely been made a mage, but he was one of the few that were incredibly skilled with both. He dragged the ice that was forming in his hand along the blade of his sword before driving it into the Wyvern’s neck, the giant beast collapsed and Titus climbed off its back.
Once he was on the ground he looked around, making sure the 4 remaining Wyverns were being dealt with, they were, at least, all but one.
Titus felt as if his world slowed down and his blood ran cold as he watched Cor get knocked backward by the largest Wyvern, he slammed into a cluster of rocks and fell limply to the ground.
“Cor…” Titus started running over, pulling out his dagger as he did and threw it at the Wyvern which was now stalking towards Cor. Titus warped to his dagger and crashed into the beasts large head, in the confusion he managed to stab at it blindly before regaining his footing in front of Cor, holding his sword tightly in his right hand and summoning some more ice into his left, the Wyvern would have to go through him if it wanted to hurt Cor.
Cor’s eyes flickered open, his head was spinning and his whole body ached, as his vision cleared he saw Titus fighting the largest Wyvern, his movements were so precise, targeting the weak parts of the creature with both his magic and his blade, managing to also warp several times to avoid a dangerous bite.
Cor pushed himself onto his feet just as Titus managed to drive his sword through the neck of the Wyvern, the beast fell limp and Titus got thrown from its back, landing on his side and staying there for a moment, unmoving. Cor stumbled over to him.
“Titus?” Cor knelt down at Titus’ side just as the Glaive started to move, pushing himself up slowly. “You idiot, you pushed yourself into Stasis didn’t you?!”
“Might have done…” Titus wheezed, his face was sickly grey and he had beads of cold sweat running from his forehead. “Are you alright?” Cor nodded despite them both knowing he was injured.
“Marshal!” Cor looked over to Monica as she ran over, “Gods I’m so sorry I wasn’t able to get to you sooner” the young woman reached into her coat pocket and pulled out a potion, she handed it over to Cor, who gladly took it
“Thank you Monica, would you help Lieutenant Drautos to his feet please? I think he’s suffering a little, he hit Stasis” Monica helped Titus stand up while Cor took the potion she’d given him before he too, pushed himself to his feet.
“Cid isn’t going to like the fact that you got hurt, Marshal” Titus said, giving Cor a weary smile
“Let me deal with Cid, Monica, make sure he rests please”
“Of course, Sir” Cor watched Monica put Titus’ right arm over her shoulders and began to lead him back towards the vans they had travelled in. Seeing Titus being supported by such a small woman would have made Cor laugh under normal circumstances, but after what the 2 men had been through today, Cor was just glad they were both still alive.
“Right…” Cor spoke to himself as he brushed off the dust from his uniform, “best report back to Cid.”

Anything you'd change about FFXV? I'd probably have the bros spend some time in Insomnia before they left, not like a lot tho. Establish basic concepts like the Wall and Ring of Lucii, basic tutorial stuff, and then an imperial attack. Tone of the game is funny until the Wall collapses, Imp troops march enmass into Insomnia, and it's a fight just to escape. Could witness some horrors, like the Diamond WEAPON deamon, the miasma turning citizens into deamons, and casual Imp cruelty to the citizens. That would really get you invested in the game right from the start I think.
Bestie I need you to know that I got this ask, read the first sentence, then proceeded to laugh so hard that I ended up wheezing and couldn't finish reading the ask for two minutes.
What fucking wouldn't I change about this hot mess of a game, wicked white.
Buckle in this is gonna get Long.
There's two different ways I'd go about this. 1) To just enhance what's already there (it's possible) and make a coherent game, or 2) make a story that I find personally satisfying.
If we do the first one, my primary modus operandi would be to make XV as coherent as possible, and nix a good portion of the "extra" stuff (the DLC, the movies, the Brotherhood OVA) and just. Incorporate it into the game from the get go. A large portion of that would to be, like you said, have the bros start out in Insomnia and establish a lot of basic concepts, give weight to Insomnia as a whole, explain why the Wall is important and why the daemons are so threatening, etc.
(funfact: Kingsglaive actually was supposed to be the opening portion of the game, but it got scrapped for a movie. I mourn every day.)
I'd also want to give a greater emphasis on Noctis being a king via physically helping his people, listening to their woes and doing what he can to make it better. It's sort of there already, with the game's focus on hunts and a few sidequests, but I'd make it go further with things like tangibly affecting the towns you go to, or having people with real problems say how their lives get better. Notably, I'd go so far as to have the chocobros save a village or town that's on the verge of being overrun by daemons, just to drive home what the "King of Light" moniker means and what Noctis can do that's a step up above the rest of his subjects (ie magic). If the first few hours are spent in Insomnia with a lot of pro-royalty sentiment, I'd then spend the next long time in the continent then tearing that apart. Have some citizens express pro-Imperial stances, or anti-royalty stances; have the common citizen talk about how the war has affected them, and how neither state seems to care for their well being. Really drive home that it isn't just Noctis who lost something with the Fall of Insomnia, it's the people as well.
Luna needs to be more present, and with her own character. Have her and Noctis communicate more via the journal, with Noctis adding in bits and pieces of the sidequests that they player has completed, or add some photos that Prompto took. When we get a letter back from Luna, the narration of her voice fades out and we actually get to see what she's been doing, where she's been traveling and start playing as her. Show what her life is like under Imperial occupation, show what her duties as the Oracle even are, show that she has a lot of political weight as 1) the princess of Tenebrae and 2) the Oracle itself. Highlight the tension between her and her brother, but also his care about her through smaller things (a phone call here, a note saying he left her something, etc).
Take all the bro dlcs and just. Put them in the main game. Tie the character arcs into the way they actually interact with Noctis and the others-- Make Gladio have more of an issue about being a Shield and worrying about measuring up (to his ancestors, to his Dad [that he barely knew, that he knew without being told died for the king]) be brought up before all of it, have him talk about some of his feelings. Sure he can keep most of them close to his chest and only express it to the player, but for fuck's sake the macho posturing only hurts him.
Ignis' dlc is largely alright, but I'd have there be a bit bigger focus on his political role, and also the Empire. I'd maybe sneak in the headcanon that his family actually used to be Tenebrae royalty some generations ago, and fled for Lucis when Tenebrae got taken over. Add some depth to the nobility lines, have him and Ravus talk about a few things here and there.
Prompto's is, potentially, the one I'd change the most. Prompto's whole "reveal" about being a clone is... so fucking stupid. There's no weight to it, and by the time that it's revealed there's no reason to even care about it. Tweak it to where your "random encounters" are because Prompto's got a subderminal tracker in him, have him know about it. Really drive home that he's an actual, real, liability to Noctis and the others, while also desperately trying to be normal and desperately wanting his only friend to not forget about him with the advent of his Kingly duties. Drive home the idea that his loyalty to Noctis (and thus his representation as "the common person") is a choice that he is pursuing with all of his heart, not something that's intrinsic to being Lucian or a citizen of Niflheim.
MAKE IRIS AMITICIA A PERMANENT PARTY MEMBER Y2K FOREVER. Have her join relatively late, around Cape Caem or so, but by god add her as a permanent member. Actually, have her join up when Gladio is gone, and just... not leave. She already brings so much life to the party when she's there, and she raises up some interesting questions; is it morally right to bring a 15 y/o girl with them on their dangerous quests, even if she's been trained for this since birth? Is it right to deny her her birthright of being a Shield to the king and also serving like she's been told she's headed for her entire life?? Just! C'mon!! Agh why is she only a guest I'm going to chew thru glass.
Since we're following the canon route of "Noctis has to die to save the world from the Scourge", lets add in more hints about it. Have him question why his father never trained him how to be King, have him remark that his upbringing was pretty "normal". Talk about how Regis seemed to Know Something about it, and how even Luna doesn't quite know what it was. Make more of a big deal about the lines of the Oracle and the line of Lucis effectively ending, and that with them, all the magic in the world will also be gone.
Emphasize Noct's willingness to find a solution, any solution for the horrors plaguing his people, have him witness them die for him, for others, have him be unable to save them. Drive home the thesis of "many have sacrificed themselves for the king, now the king must sacrifice himself for all", make it have weight and mean something. This isn't something Noctis is doing lightly, but because there is no other solution to be had, because everyone has suffered and he has the chance to make it worth it. This isn't about him anymore, this is about his duty as a king, the duty to the people that he is supposed to protect.
The actual ending of XV can stay relatively the same imo, keep the ambiguity of the rest of the bros dying, keep the "happier" end of Noct and Luna in the afterlife. Makes it feel earned, really. Now they finally get to rest, they finally get to have some peace and the promise of a better tomorrow fulfilled, and be able to spend their days together like they were always able to. The problem isn't exactly the ending itself, it's that it doesn't really feel earned in the base game.
Now.
If we do the second, to make a story that I, Personally, find satisfying, we're gonna have to do some restructuring.
[Part 2]

like i said. if you wanna suffer ill be happy to watch. but also the only thing i know about ff 15 is that one max0r video which while very funny is probably not 100% accurate to the story
now this is giving me too much power. I'll be happy (and sad) to oblige. And give you a quick overview.
and yeah i doubt that one video is a good description of it. so.
cracks fingers.
One of us is going to end up crying by the end of this. it's going to be me. but you're welcome to join me.
Final Fantasy 15 is the story of Noctis Lucis Caelum, crown prince of the kingdom of Lucis.
The Kingdom of Lucis is facing a crisis as the ever-growing Niflheim Empire is trying to expend and take the kingdom over, at the same time as a sickness called Starscrouge is slowly killing people. When the night falls, daemons come in the dark, and ever since those events have started happening, nights are growing longer in longer.
As the Empire of Niflheim is discussing peace treaty with the Kingdom, a clause is made on their contract to have Noctis marry Princess Lunafreya Nox Fleuret, who's been held captive by Niflheim for about a decade, and who has been Noctis's childhood friend and penpal. She is the Oracle, chosen by a prophecy to be the only person capable of healing the Starscrouge before the sickness takes hold.

King Regis decides to send his son to his marriage-to-be right before the peace treaty is officially signed, accompanied by his three most trusted friends - Ignis Scientia, who's been working as a royal advisor, cook, caretaker ever since they were children, Gladiolus Amicitia, who's been Noctis' bodyguard and royal trainer for a very long time, and Prompto Argentum, Noctis' school bestie who, despite having no relation to the royal family, is the only person outside of it Noctis managed to get close with.

But soon after their departure, the peace ceremony goes array- King Regis is murdered and the Kingdom of Lucis fall to the Empire, now leading a manhunt for Noctis to kill the royal lineage, and recover the Ring of Lucis, a powerful artefact carried through the family that, especially once coupled with the Magic Crystal that is the source of all magic in Lucis, can connect its wielder with the Kings of Old to access tremendous power left by the Gods.
See, there is a prophecy in the Lucis lineage that one day the One True King Of Light, chosen by the Gods, will be able to purge the world of the Starscrouge and Daemons, ending this curse at all cost. and, as you can imagine, this burden will fall on Noctis's shoulders as he goes through his new journey to awake the old gods and reunites the soul weapons of the previous Kings in order to unlock the full potential of his power.
The game mostly plays as an open world where you explore the valley with your besties. There is a lot that is very difficult to communicate that is just about how it feels like a camping simulator. You don't want to stay up at night for too long because Daemons are overleveled and bitch to kill, so you try to level up, do your missions, and enjoy your time connecting with your friends, learning more about them.
From Prompto's insecurities about his place in this journey, to Ignis's unwavering loyalty that would oversee Noctis's protection to the end, to Gladio devoting himself to being the shield even when everything starts to fall apart, you end up caring a lot for this group of misfits who are just trying to enjoy their journey knowing it might be their last.
You spend the game mostly having fun with them. Finding place to camp, new recipes for Ignis to cook, Prompto is constantly taking pictures and selfies to remember the journey by, you stop to every ponds to be sure Noctis can enjoy all of the fishing he can, you meet up with Gladio's little sister, it's really a really heartful game in ways that are very difficult to articulate.
... until shit hit the fan.
You're introduced to the real antagonist of the game, the Empire's chancelor, Ardyn Izunia, who's been pulling the strings all along, while also helping Noctis unlock the powers of the Gods.
And when finally it's time for you to go find Lunafreya for their wedding and hopefully linking the power of the Oracle to the King of Light in order to finally purge it all.....
Ardyn will brutally murder Lunafreya in front of Noctis, killing with her any possibility to stop the Starscrouge and the endless nights around the corner. The death itself is pretty heartbreaking, showcasing Noctis' very difficult time to deal with her loss, and Luna was defined by how she was willing to do everything to carry her duty to the end, so it was really sad.. but Luna was not very well written unfortunately (she appears maybe 15mins in the whole game up until this point) so i don't have as much to say about it :( it was super heartbreaking but yeah... yeah.
During this confrontation, Ignis will lose his eyes trying to protect Noctis, as Noctis was unconscious and Ignis grabbed the Ring of Lucis to ask for the powers of the Gods to protect him, and the Gods burn his eyes off. (it's so hard to properly explain but Ignis becoming blind ends up developping a lot of problems in the plot, of course, but especially in the gameplay. Like you spend the game having Ignis cook all sort of things and exitedly tell you about what he's going to cook today, and then your first campire after this incident you see the only food you can cook is some canned bean and it's just. so sudden in the way to tell you Ignis is changed for ever by it.)
Shortly afterward, Ardyn will create illusions that will push Noctis to push Prompto off from a moving train, resulting in Prompto getting kidnapped and experimented on by the Empire.
all while Gladio is losing his faith in Noctis because everyone is expecting so much from him, that they're their only hope, and yet Noctis is so lost in his grief that he doesn't focus on the bigger picture, while everyone he loves is losing everything around them.
When you finally decide to take down the Empire's HQ to get Prompto's back, is when a lot of truth starts to unravel.
You learn that Prompto is the clone of one of the highest funding members of the Empire, who was created to become one of the mindless drone enemies you fight the whole game, but has been smuggled out of the labs before he could be turned as such - only keeping a mark on his wrist reminding him of who he truly is. As much as Prompto always wanted to be Noctis' friend, he always feared that him being a clone, a failed weapon made by the enemies, would eventually disgust Noctis, and he feared all his life that Noctis would turn against him. so you can imagine the panic for Prompto when Noctis did attack him due to the illusions.
Most importantly though, you learn that Ardyn Izunia is actually Ardyn Lucis Caelum - one of the prince of Olds, the first person who was prophetized to be the King of Light. Bahamut himself, god of gods, gave him for missions to purge the Starscrouge, and Ardyn did just that, and took all of the Starscrouge in the world inside of his body, eradicating it from this world... and when he came to ask what he was supposed to do now, the Gods turned on him and left him to his fate, as he was not the one to actually serve to finish this prophecy. (if i recall correctly they legit say it wouldn't be narratively satisfying. Fuck the Gods, fuck Bahamut, all the homies hate Bahamut no matter the universe.)
Then, as the gods refused to clean him from the scrouge, his brothe, Somnus, tried to kill him before locking him into a magical prison and a magical slumber for the centuries that followed. Somnus became known as the Savior of Lucis, he took the credit for the actions of his brother, and build his kingdom on his ashes, continuing his royal line until Noctis' birth out of it.
When the Niflheim Empire started to come to power, they freed Ardyn, and figured out how to be able to use his power -- Ardyn could unlean the Starscrouge inside of him and have it spread into the world.... and we learn that people who "die" from the Starscrouge actually become Daemons, creature of the night, and the more people become Daemons, the longer the night will last.
And so Ardyn unleashed all of his power, all of his suffering, but himself has been turned into a Daemon at this point due to the sickness ravaging his body for centuries. He only feels pain, and he cannot die, for the sickness made him immortal. So while the Empire woke him up to use him, Ardyn decided instead to use the Empire to take revenge on the descendant of his brother, destroy the world he had sworn to save, and finally by the end, being killed by the True King of Light in the way the Gods will find narratively satisfying.
And finally, as our four companions are trying to escape the forteress, Noctis finds the Crystal, and with all the power he has gathered since then, and prompted by Ardyn telling him that the only way for him to know how to defeat him, Noctis approached it... and was taken in by the Crystal.
In there he met the Kings of Old who told him about the prophecy. The King of Light will pure the world of the Starscrouge and the Demons by taking out Ardyn for good.... but since Ardyn cannot die, his soul will always come back into his body, the King of Light must die as well in order to kill Ardyn's soul in the afterlife once its there.
Noctis therefore learns that by the end of his journey, the only thing that awaits is his own suicide in order to finally put Ardyn to rest.
The Crystal kept Noctis in it for about ten years. For ten years Noctis could do nothing but wait, as the Night fully took the lands over and destroyed everything. Only small camps here and there managed to survive and fight -- and his three friends have been trying to do their best for the people's survival, while being torn apart at the sudden loss of Noctis that day.
When Noctis finally returns, he can meet with his friends one last time. And tell them what awaits him.
youtube
For one last time you team up with your dearest friends, all of them having to be aware that they're walking you out so you can kill yourself to finally bring peace.
youtube
Before entering the final room to the final boss fight, Noctis turns to his friends, and ask Prompto to give him one of the pictures he took. You go through all the pictures you took as Prompto as you decide which picture Noctis will hold on in his last moments, holding on knowing they were the people who brought him on this journey to start with. In there Noctis will share his final words with them.
And finally you leave your friends behind. Finally it's time to fight Ardyn as he himself only awaits for death. Two dead men giving each other a last fight, two pawns by the prophecy made by the Gods, tool in a narrative that never saw them as humans, no matter how hard they clang to their humanity and to the people they loved.
One last final fight, finally killing Ardyn. And watching Noctis climbs on the throne of his father, and empale himself with all of the swords of the previous kings, in order to finish this fight in the afterlife.
And so the game ends. Ardyn is dead. The Starscrouge and Daemons are purged from this world. the Kingdom of Lucis can live on and see better days. And Noctis is dead as well, standing on the throne of his father.
In the last moments of the game you see him in the afterlife where he reunited with Lunafreya. He's holding the picture you picked in the previous scene. Looking over his friends one last time.

And then in case it's not enough you have the DLCs. Ardyn's DLC tell you more about how the Gods set them up for narrative satisfaction to start with. Then you have all three friends' DLC, set at points in game when you don't know what happened to them. But all of them ends with some final goodbye of some sort.
Gladio's DLC is the most underwhelming one in general so i don't really know what to say about it, and it doesn't really have a big payoff.
Prompto's show how he felt, abandonned in the snow when Noctis almost killed him. Having to wrestle with his existence as a clone, and figuring out if Noctis even wants him by his side. This DLC ends on a last conversation between Prompto and Noctis right before Noctis entered the crystal, in which Noctis tells Prompto he hopes he'll be by his side as he'll try to be a good king. Prompto promise he will be, always.
youtube
And then. Ignis' DLC. god that fucking DLC.
You really see the events in which Ignis stole the Ring to try to protect Noctis there, the event that rendered him blind. You see how much he fights out of devotion for Noctis. And you learn that when he put the ring on, the Kings of Old told him Noctis was going to die. Ignis spent his life protecting Noctis. In fact, you go through various flashback of their first meeting. Ignis has to learn that the kid he's protected his whole life, is going to die, and there's nothing he can do about it, because this is the fate that has been drawn on him.
On the first ending of the DLC, There is one last goodbye. Where Ignis wants to follow Noctis to the end and Noctis has to stop him, telling him that he wants him to live on.
youtube
(so that's the scene where i was crying so hard i ended up tripping in the stairs)
BUT THEN Ignis's DLC has an alternative ending. an ending where when Ignis hears the plans the Gods had planned for Noctis, he tells them, screw you. I'm never going to let it happen to him. I'll fight all of you if i have to and i'll save Noctis from this cruel fate you have planned.
And so in this ending, Ignis doesn't let Noctis walk into the Crystal and they work together, in an alternative way, until they can save him and put him on the throne.
and let me be clear: this ending is impossible by the game's lore. It's purely a fanservice fix-it ending, a what if, Ignis' ultimate proof of love that is enough to screw over the prophecy hundred of years in the making.
Where Ignis manages to save Noctis so Noctis can actually live on as the King he was raised to be. For ever at his side.
SO. WELL. WELL. I NEVER RECOVERED.
(and i am in fact crying as i'm writing all of this)
all of that while the main theme of the game is a Stand By Me cover by Florence + The Machine that will forever rip your heart and will leave you crying your eyes out as you finish this game, especially after the true ending, watching Noctis' die, and then hearing this fucking damn song.
youtube
Anyway i never fucking recovered from it. Like, never.
Like, even a summary doesn't do it justice. My first playthrough took me hundreds of hours. I spent hundred of hours with those kids. Enjoying their banters, seeing them protect each other, fight with one another. There's so much of their dynamic that is so deep into the gameplay, the way your companions will check on you during a fight, the moments they'll pause to have a high five, those moments of pure happiness where you know they're having fun by each other's side.
and Noctis being such a good character you really get to love and for what. And for what!!!!!!!! to get him killed by the end???? like for crying out loud. literally.
So yeah that's the speedrun of what FF15 is about. It's about tearing my heart out of my chest, that's what it is. (and others themes but you get my point)
Anyway. Yeah. Here you are. Here you know FF15's story.
and btw there was a little webseries set right before the event of the games, telling you how each of those friendships started. if you ever goot curious through reading all of this, i definitely recommend it. (the playlist is from newest to oldest though so be sure to watch on the right order)
was it worth it.
#*puts hands on my face and starts screaming*#i started a replay not so long ago#it's fun when you try to pretend the ending isn't there#but then you remember the ending in every fucking things you do and you cry :)#any mistakes in the summary is due to me being an emotional mess if i ever did anything wrong#ichareply#ichafantalks ffxv#anonymous#sorry i gave up and posted videos but you will watch them. you will get me. you're welcome.#also if you're here from gbf all the seiyuu are in gbf#in japanese noctis' is Aglovale's seiyuu. Prompto's elmott. Gladio's Deliford. And Ignis is Mamoru Miyano (not in gbf. yet. but you know hi#im more used to the english bc i played in english tho#(mostly bc the subs kept jumping and some banters weren't subbed so i had to compromise)#(the english cast is very good tho)#but yeah. yeah.

ffxv discord rambling
You can really see the competing visions of ff15. It was to be urban fantasy, open world road trip, but also also world ending plot at the same time. Like a different plot would have fit the road trip vibe better. A lot of old jrpgs start out just exploring the continent without the assassination of your dad and invasion of your city. Ff15 doesnt know what it wants to be which well it was like 15 years in development and 2 directors... Looking at the dev cycle is a good hint for a game. When a game takes a really long time to come out you know something has gone wrong. ff15 managed to have a better story than 16 somehow. It did manage to pull itself mostly together the director really did their best.
Gotta say i really respect tabata. He was dumped into the worst case scenario, development hell project that had been dragging on and accumulating detritus for a decade, engine changes, concept changes, nomura, like late stage director change wow what a mess. I think tabata resigned after the project too. I really feel bad for ff15's director he got handed a half finished hot plate of garbage and actually managed to make something half decent from it. Despite one if the worst development cycles in history xv still managed to have a better story than xvi. It shouldn't really be controversial to but monarchy iant a good government system so I'm a hard sell on return of the rightful king and divine right of kings type stories, ffxv did pretty good.
You can really see the development hell like nomura envisioned most of the game taking place in insomnia. It varies some stories depend heavily on worldbuilding if their themes revolve around history but for ff15 and most stories it only ever needs to be believable. Take for example how every city in the game has distinct architecture and food culture like one person on the train comments how chefs from one region are no good and they should have hired another
I also remember the blatant top ramen commercial like gladio did an ad read it was funny but also really jarring
Magic bread mold is next is making the sun go out. Magic protozoa in the end is whatever it doesn't matter. But it does stick out to me since ffxv is otherwise pretty good about worldbuilding
Luna's just kind of a plot device every time the writers need a plot miracle. This is my biggest problem with episode ignis. it feels like the writers are relying on lunafreya and the crystal to just be miracle workers and move the plot however they want. it also cheapens making the player choose between not using the ring and losing to ardyn, using some of the power at the cost of eyesight but that not being enough, and trading your life for the power to take down ardyn like it's suppose to be a hard choice but the writers take the consequences away. but i love the lore and it's overall really cool. also i was so distracted by prompto disappearing and the whole climax and chasing ardyn and the crystal and i didn't realize how important ravus was until episode ignis. lit his death as the last of the oracle line is what causes the darkness and apocalypse

Since they’ve been consigned to the void for quite some time, started thinking on my Niflheim Royal OC’s. Namely, Iedolas’ wife and son.
I’m not sure that they count wholly as OC’s, since they do exist in FFXV canon - we just never see them as they’re already long dead by the time the game begins.
I Don’t have anything concrete for Niflheim’s Prince, except that his name is Helios, so this post is primarily about Niflheim’s late empress, Celestia.
These are more building blocks of her character than anything really fleshed out, though.
Celestia Aldercapt - Empress of Niflheim (M.E. 695 - M.E. 721)
- She was born into the Niflheim empire under the reign of Iedolas’ father. Her mother was a Duchess of Niflheim and her father was actually a son from a branch of the Royal Family of Tenebrae. He married into her family tree.
- Currently chewing on the concept of Verstael Besithia’s related to her. A cousin or half-brother via surrogacy, maybe (namely because I’m a sucker for the Prince Prompto trope, and the thought of Prompto looking very much like Celestia and freaking Iedolas out humors me).
- As a result, she has similar powers to a member of the Fleuret family. The Oracle is the pinnacle of Fleuret magic, both offensive and defensive powers, but my headcanon is that other members of the family also have magic - they just tend to lean towards on type or the other. It doesn’t always fully manifest the further you get from the main line, but in her case, it was close enough.
- Had she been born as a Fleuret, it’s very likely that Celestia could have been a candidate for the position of Oracle. The Empress was more inclined towards healing (improving the natural effects of the immune system), but was also capable of imbuing weaponry with light/heat.
-> I think she’d carry a gun if she had to, because it gives distance from the enemy. It also seems to be the primary weapon of Niflheim soldiers, and even in the real world, a lot of royalty in the past kept revolvers or pistols on them for protection.
- She works more from a distance rather than up close, but always has emergency weapons on her as well. The ornaments on the robes she wears are actually blades, similar to pocket knives, because a lot of people tend to want the Emperor and Empress of Niflheim dead.
- The cost for what Celestia had in magic was paid for with the health of her body, though. Celestia herself was prone to high fevers and easily falling sick when she overtaxed her abilities. Furthermore, she had been born prematurely when her own mother had gotten sick with severe pneumonia, so her immune system isn’t the greatest.
- During the periods of time where she recovered from illness, Celestia loved to sketch and paint. Frequently, her paintings depicted ancient legends regarding the Astrals, or her loved ones, or places she’d been/wanted to be.
- She was actually once invited to Lucis to paint a portrait of the young prince Regis Lucis Caelum in M.E. 710 (he was four), before tensions between the nations sunk completely and war worsened. She was fifteen at the time, but her artistic talents were already well-known throughout Lucis.
- Physically, Celestia is very tall. She has broader shoulders compared to most women, and for all that her health isn’t the greatest, she regularly enjoyed exercising and working out. Can and will fight you. And win.
- However, she’s built more for speed compared to strength. Very lithe, very similar to Prompto rather than Gladio, i guess. (Can throw her husband over her shoulder, though. Like he’s a pillow).
- The best way to describe her features is…androgynous, I guess? (The picrew I used for the photograph above is a male body I’m pretty sure, and was the closest I could find to my idea).
- Iedolas and Celestia first properly met at her debutante. They’d seen each other briefly at other events, but in Niflheim, young children generally weren’t brought out to balls and so on. She was eighteen years old, and he was newly twenty.
- Iedolas was said to be a kind and beloved emperor (before the events of the game and general conquest lust), so I like to think he would be soft, a little dorky and clumsy when he was younger, and in private (though, the epitome of grace and well-spoken in public).
- He accidentally spilled his drink on her while she’d escaped to the gardens, avoiding would-be suitors, while he was doing the same. So she pushed him into a nearby pond in retaliation after he kept apologizing, and asking if there wasn’t some way he could do anything.
- She was standing there, slowly grinning the whole time as she didn’t mind the incident, and when he said he’d do anything, she asked if he’d even let her push him into the pond - and wouldn’t ya know, he did.
- It’s like the scenario of “i know I said something stupid, you can punch me if you want”, and you lightly punch a friend on the shoulder or something.
- She helps him out afterwards, and they’re good. (Their parents are significantly less good about the ruined clothes, but the kids themselves are perfectly happy with the ordeal).
- I can not stress how much these two have a dorky dynamic with one another from the get-go, even before getting married.
- I see Celestia having very much been raised with the belief that the Niflheim Empire was, in fact, the greatest nation upon Eos - however, she looked towards the expansionist policy the nation took unfavorably. It led to a great deal of bloodshed on each side of the war, and impaired the ability to see loved ones who had married out of the country and into others.
- Her pregnancy had actually gone fairly smoothly, despite concerns. However, an assassin - disguised to be Lucian to push stagnating war efforts forwards by some nobles who wanted more land, as Iedolas was considering a genuine peace treaty - nearly killed her, and led to an induced labor, trying to save both her and the baby.
- Celestia would develop maternal sepsis, and die from it within three days of giving birth to her and Iedolas’ only son, whom they named Helios.
- A massive statue was erected of her in front of the royal palace, where she was interred in the Aldercapt Tomb, but the structure itself would be sealed from the public once Zegnautus Keep was built, on par with becoming a place to the Astrals with its sanctity.
- Iedolas actually created an imperial order in his wife’s honor, The Star of Empress Celestia. It’s the highest honor for a woman in the empire.
- One notable recipient of the order was Lunafreya, when she ascended to the position of the Oracle.
#ffxv#original characters#Celestia Aldercapt#I think I had more thoughts on her originally but they have since been lost to the void

by feather_cadence Four gods, a handful of dead kings, the ghost of an oracle, and now the light of a dying star. One human body. Noctis kneels on the floor of the keep, collapsed forward with his forehead resting on the cool concrete for precious minutes, breathing labored and keening some high pitched, terrible sound. He wants to feel a hand on his shoulder and for someone to pull him away from the hurricane-force of the magic just at his back, he wants his teeth to stop ringing like his whole jaw’s a tuning fork. But it doesn’t. And no one does. Or, accepting boons from the gods comes with consequences. Noctis drifts further away. Gladio, Prompto, and Ignis can only watch.
