A Guide on How to create a TMNT Men In Green Iteration!

Hyllo everybody! 😎

This is once again, another secret agents type mythology, this is TMNT Men In Green! This is a lot more like Men in Black than the original Secret Agents mythos. I don't have much more to say so let's get right into this.

DISCLAIMER: Disclaimer, these are just suggestions not rules, having rules would limit creativity, the best way to use these "rules" is to figure out how you can play around with them while still technically following them, basically think of a creative way to follow them. Basically find a creative way to bend the rules. Disclaimer over.

TMNT: Men In Green

A guide on how to create a TMNT Men In Green iteration.

This Mythos is a good mix of down to earth, sci-fi, fantasy, and superhero stuff, just like the normal mythos. Think of this Mythos as TMNT meets Men in Black. Whenever they're not bodyguarding the president they are sent on missions by Agent Bishop, or Splinter, or both. And because Bishop and the E.P.F. deal with a lot of Aliens that's where the Men In Black comes in. You could make the president whoever is currently the president at the time of you making your iteration, or you could just not follow real life and just have the president be some generic old guy instead of based on an actual person like 2003 did, because that president in that episode does not look, sound, or act like, George W Bush Jr, yet that was who the president was at the time, and 2003 does take place in 2003 and presumably when the show ended in 2009 it was the year 2009, meaning season 4 was definitely within the George Bush range, but that's a side tangent, make the president whoever you want. You don't have to make the president some generic White guy if you don't want to, you could make the president a woman, like maybe April, or somebody else, it's up to you. And whether or not Bishop is good or evil can depend on the iteration, more info on that in his section.

Design Elements and aspects. Their skin must always be Green despite whatever species you make them, and no species markings. They have three fingers, or four fingers, and two toes, three toes, or four toes, and they must have the normal toes not the finger-like Rise toes, and they must have the same amount of fingers and toes as each other. They can be anywhere between 3'6 ft tall and 6'4 ft tall. All four of them must be the same species, you can make them any species of Turtle, but unanimously usually always Red-Eared Sliders, or Generic Turtles not based on a particular species. Because they are secret agents they are usually wearing a Black suit with Black sunglasses, but they can also be seen in tactical military gear, they must all have the same Gear as each other, not different gear from each other like Rise. Mask colors, the first iteration they should have Leo in Blue-Black, Don in Black-Purple, Raph in Black Red, and Mike in Dark Orange, but then the standard color set should be, Leonardo in Dark Blue, Donatello in Dark Indigo, Raphael in Black, and Michelangelo in Yellow, but you could also put them in their traditional colors of Blue, Purple, Red, and Orange, or you could put them all in Red, or Dark Red, or all Black, or all Gray, or all Dark Gray, or all Off-White, or all Green. Powers, just default mutant powers, no superpowers. Because this takes place in Washington D.C., they have Washington D.C. Vibes instead of New Yorker vibes.

Origins: They were made intentionally by Agent Bishop and were not an accident. Either they were made to be some sort of perfect weapons, or just really good secret agents. They must start out as ordinary Turtles. They were created by mutagenic substances, Ooze, Mutagen, ect, No Gene splicing, or Mystic Crystals. No Additional Turtles.

The Foot Clan: They are either just a really bad organized crime syndicate so bad that it requires secret agents to investigate their crimes instead of just regular cops or vigilantes, or they are possibly a group of ninja terrorists, or possibly some kind of group of Aliens wanting to conquer planets, or a rogue branch of the military, or possibly a cult, depending on the iteration. Whether or not they started out good or neutral, or if they were always bad can depend on the iteration. Their goals can vary from just wanting to do organized crime, to wanting to conquer just america, to wanting to conquer the whole planet, to wanting to conquer the whole universe.

Agent Bishop: Now normally I put Main antagonists at the end of these, but because here it's a weird special case I decided to put him first, since in some ways he's kind of like a second Splinter, and depending on the iteration he might not actually be evil. He is the one who created the Turtles, and depending on the iteration he may have also been the one to mutate Splinter. He is also the guy (besides the president & Splinter) who sends the Turtles on missions, he is essentially their boss, but because he made them they also kind of see him as a father like figure like Splinter. You could have Bishop be secretly a bad guy and the Turtles are shocked and feel betrayed when it gets revealed, or the Turtles could have already known and we're just waiting for him to show his true colors. Or you could have him actually start out as a good guy and somewhere in the middle or towards the end of the iteration he lived long enough to see himself become the villain. Or you could just have him stay a good guy throughout the whole iteration. And if you do have him become a bad guy or was secretly a bad guy from the get-go, you can either have him become good again like in Fast Forward, or you could kill him off like in IDW. He can be a Human, a half Human half Alien, or an Alien like 2012. If you go with Human then just like 2003 he was probably experimented on by Aliens and was traumatized by it, and now wants Revenge and wants to protect the Earth because now he's Alien racist. If you go with half Human half Alien then either he was experimented on and mutated into being half Alien, or maybe one of his parents was an Alien and he didn't know and when he finds out he's shocked and hates himself at first and then comes to accept it and becomes less Alien racist. And if you go with he's just an Alien like in 2012 then he's not Alien racist he just wants to protect the Earth because he knows not every Alien government is good just like how not every country's government on Earth is the best.

Essentially just like how Splinter and Shredder and The Foot Recruit and The Space Thief and The Rat King are just titles, Bishop is also a title and depending on who you make him his personality might be a little different, if he's Human or only half Alien like 2003 then he can be very sadistic, if he is an Alien like in 2012 then he can be a helpful and caring Utrom, you could also have him be a helpful and caring Human, or a very sadistic Alien, depending on if you want him to be a bad guy in your iteration. If you are going to reveal him to be a villain then he is the main antagonist after the other main antagonists are defeated, he will be the last main antagonist. The reason why he became a villain is because he's lived long enough to see himself become the villain, if you're going off of 2003 how he was around during the Civil War and figured out how to make himself Immortal essentially, if you want to make him an Alien and a villain then you can just say his species lifespan is just that long. He can be a Utrom like 2012, or you can make him some other Alien. If you're going to make him more like 2003 Bishop he could have been a close friend to Splinter and then secretly experimented on him just like that monster from that one episode, Bishop was the best man at that man's wedding and then he turned around and did that to him, that's fucked up Bishop. Could have been a similar situation. and either he wipes Splinter's memory so that Splinter wouldn't remember that it was him, although the memories will come back later. Or he tried to make it look like it wasn't him that mutated him. But if you don't have him be a villain then he could have just mutated a normal Rat and four normal Turtles for the purpose of being Warriors to protect the Earth, and he didn't ruin someone's life in the process, and didn't have to Gaslight, lie, manipulate, or even brainwashing & memory wipe. You could also have him be friends with Splinter and mutate him, but then act like he changed his ways and is sorry, just to reveal that he was still evil and just pretending to be good. It's also possible that mutating Splinter into a Rat was an accident, and after seeing what his experimental substance could do he then intentionally made the Turtles. No having him be Shredder, or Splinter in this mythos.

Splinter: Hamato Yoshi is mandatory. You can make him any species of Rat under the genus Rattus, or you could make him a Mystic, Yokai, or Alien Rat. And he could either be mutated, or magically transformed. He could either be Yoshi's pet Rat, or a normal Rat who never even knew Yoshi and was just made using Yoshi's DNA by Bishop, or he could have been Yoshi himself, or a student of Yoshi's, or an adopted son, or biological son of Yoshi's. Either way he must have personal ties to Shredder in order to give the story weight, and personal ties to Bishop are only required if he is the one who mutated him and is a bad guy.

How to write this Splinter. He is a wise old man, full of wisdom and experience, and is a great father figure to the Turtles, and is very spiritual. Essentially the exact same as the Normal mythology.

The Turtles: This is the exact same personality set as the normal mythos, meaning they have all the same Dynamics and Etc. And there are two types of Mikeys, goofball and not goofball. The only thing different is that they have military training on top of their Ninjutsu that's the only difference, and the fact that they wear suits so I guess that's two differences. Oh and the fact that they have D.C. Vibes instead of New Yorker Vibes, I guess that's three things.

April O'Neil: She is sassy, and that's the only character trait you need, beyond that you can do whatever you want with her, you can make her any age or race you want. You can also make her the president if you don't want to actually make whoever currently is the president IRL the president in your iteration, but that's optional. And making her half Human half Alien is optional.

Casey Jones: He has the exact same personality as the Normal Mythos Casey Jones. He originally joined the military to use his training to become a effective vigilante, but after Rising through the ranks and becoming a secret agent for the E.P.F. he can now fight crime legally, but may still fight crime whenever he's not on duty. After he became a secret agent and gained a high enough rank that he was allowed to know of the Turtles existence, they almost immediately became good friends. You can make him any race you want. You can make him any age that's 16 & up, because any younger than that and he won't be allowed to start training (unless I don't remember what age they're allowed to recruit people for the military). And he really loves hockey a lot.

The Foot Recruit: She is optional. She has the exact same personality as the Rise her, but with a few tweaks from iteration to iteration depending on who you make her, because Foot Recruit is just a title that can belong to anyone. You could make her Cassandra "Casey" Jones AKA Casey's Mother, or you could make her Karai, or you could make a new character, it's up to you. Her core traits are that she must be crazy, obsessive, and determined. You can make her any age, or race you want.

The Space Thief: He is optional. He has the exact same personality as he did in the Odysseys Mythos, but with a few tweaks depending on who you make him and your iteration. Because like The Foot Recruit, The Space Thief is just a title that can belong to anyone. You could make him Keize "Casey" Jones aka Casey's Father, or you could make him Torbin Zixx, or you could make a new character, it's up to you. His core traits are that he must be crazy, and cunning. You can make him any age, or race you want. And he can be just a Human that just found his way into space, or an Alien that just looks Human, or Half Human & Half Alien, it's up to you.

The Shredder: Oroku Saki is mandatory, either Saki is just The Shredder, or he existed in the past like in 2003, IDW, and Rise, and someone else is taking up the mantle of the Shredder in present day. You could have more than one Shredder in your iteration if you want, but regardless whoever you make The Shredder whether it's Saki or someone else, they must have personal ties to Splinter. you could have The Shredder be someone else like maybe Colonel Schrader, or you could also have more than one Shredder in your iteration and just have Saki exist in the past like 2003 or Rise, you could also make him an Alien like in 2003. But no matter who or what you make The Shredder, they must have personal ties to Splinter in order to give the story weight, and maybe sometimes with Bishop as well, whether or not they got beef is up to you. He's very vengeful, wrathful, has an ego, is very prideful, and can be cruel and sadistic. He can be reformed like IDW, but that's optional. His goals can vary depending on the iteration, from just wanting his personal Vendetta settled, to just wanting to run organized crime, to wanting world domination, to wanting Universal domination.

TMNT Men In Green Mythos.

Their skin color must always be Green, despite whatever species they are, and no species markings.

They must all be the same species as each other, they can be any species of Turtle, but unanimously they're always either Red-Eared Sliders or Generic Turtles.

Takes place in Washington D.C..

Leonardo is the leader, or they are four equals with no leader.

They can either wear All Red, or all Dark Red. Or all Gray, or all Dark Gray. Or all Black. Or all Off-White. Or Blue, Purple, Red, and Orange. Or all Green. Or Blue-Black (Blackish Blue) (#040720), Black-Purple (Blackish Purple) (#3A2152), Black Red (Blackish Red) (#3D2022), and Dark Orange (#8B4000). Or Dark Blue, Dark Indigo, Black, and Yellow.

Leo: Dark Blue Don: Dark Indigo Raph: Black Mike: Yellow

Weapons

Leo: One or two Ninjaken (referred to as Katanas), depending on the iteration. Don: One Bo Staff Raph: Twin Sai (Sharpened Sai) Mike: One or two pairs of Nunchucks, depending on the iteration.

Ages

They can be anywhere between 13 and 16.

Leo: Oldest Don: Second oldest or second youngest Raph: Second youngest or second oldest Mike: Youngest

Depending on the iteration.

people thanks not too happy about thisand try to think of a plan to stopand even where Scott Lange ever since the very public Vista quick job I think Scott could be a good choice to take on the object stuff before gets into the wrong hands through a series of people think it’s got a tip about as mentioned Rob Casillas to see how good Scott really is what Scott eventually does only to find the entrance to he takes it tries it onand is terrified by the experience Hank is impressed with the skill cc but when Scott tries to return the suit he’s caught by the policeand cost breakdown in jailand impressed by Scott’s abilitiesand less just called Scott’s good fortune that it wasn’t patient who was on patrol that day also by the way crosses going crazy because pen particles mess with the brain after all this Scott goes in to steal the yellowjacket suit but gets caught so him across FIFO while in a helicopterand then a briefcaseand in Scott’s daughter’s room to save his daughterand kill cross Scott go subatomicand saves the day but is temporarily trapped in the quantum realm where Hank’s wife Janet was left however he manages to get outand it’s all good after all this Hank believes that hope is finally ready to become a heroand so gives her the lost barber Scott is back his familyand his daughter Anna’s dosing hopeand never once happy now go back to the moon real quick a place we haven’t been for a while where the go inhumanand potentially the most unlikable character in this entire universeand human arguing about this American flag I am only mentioning this to see him forget that there’s an entire inhuman civilization just living on the moon while all this is happening back on earth the tomb salvaging company shows up in the area were scurvy’s to beand picks up small font Exceland some of this ends up in the hands of Hydra uses it to build a giant robot called ultimo but the manager show up at least those are leftand defeated now were getting into the Netflix world for a while first off Jessica Jones gets new job from Joy Meacham the sister of one Meacham was running red Enterprises will be manipulate it by’s dad was being controlled by the hand I give it a second to sink in again anyway she is Jessica to investigate the people around so she can blackmail them later if need be also Wilson Fisk is stilland by his he I mean jail because he such a big crime boss he start making connections there that Frank Castle has finally gotten all the resources he needs to kill the gangs he thinks were solely responsible for his family’s murder so starts going around doing that in the most brutal way possible starting with the Irish Mafiaand a gang called the dogs of hell is all happening in or near Hells kitchenand that Murdoch starts noticing the stuff so he starts investigating eventually as daredevil in a newand improved suit by the way he comes face to face of the punisher which ends with a bullet to the face that is seriously injured but You Make Me Better (Ch. 2)

Chapter 2 is out! Its a lot harder to include the superhero/villain aspect than you think, but I’m trying to make it work. Hopefully there will be more city-saving and stuff after the big move. Leave a like and comment if you want more!

Chapter 1

After leaving Chloe and Beca’s house last night, Stacie texted Aubrey and told her that they’d be spending the day in San Francisco in order for Aubrey to get a feel of the place before she made any final decisions. Stacie wanted Aubrey to move in with her, but she would never rush the blonde to do something she wasn’t completely comfortable with. Aubrey moving to San Francisco would be great for her career and she would be closer to her friends. It was a win-win situation. After the two of them finalized their plans, they stayed up texting each other like old times. It was as if they never stopped talking after Stacie’s graduation and move to sunny California. Stacie knew her old crush would come back for a bit, but she could easily put her feelings to the side in favor of their friendship. Hopefully. She would never admit this out loud but she has always wanted Aubrey too move out to California because she would feel more secure having Aubrey within travelling distance if anything were to happen to her. When Stacie was in high school she couldn’t protect her dad and it’s been a lingering “what if” feeling ever since then. It had been years ago, but it still stuck with her till this very day. That’s the main reason why she became Genesis. The mysterious city-saving vigilante.

Aubrey was thinking almost the same thing. She thought about her career and her friends, but she also thought about keeping the vigilante, Genesis under wraps. She would be put in her place once Aubrey was settled in and had a chance to establish herself. She didn’t know who this idolized hero was, but it didn’t matter. Aubrey would make her see the right way of doing things and the right way included a whole lot less violence and death. She would have to find a way to conceal her identity from Stacie though, who she was going to be roommates with. But that was a problem for the future.

[Stacie 9:30am] Hey sleeping beauty. Ready for a day in San Francisco with an amazing tour guide? ;)

Stacie contemplated adding the winking face for a solid minute before she hit send. Aubrey knew it was her seductive nature and a little friendly flirting couldn’t hurt right?

[Aubrey 9:31am] I’ve been up since 8am, Conrad. The only sleeping beauty here is you. Although you don’t need any beauty rest ;)

That was not the response that Stacie was expecting. Aubrey rarely flirted back, but it was a nice change. Maybe this little crush situation would be harder to deal with than she thought.

[Stacie 9:31am] Waking up early on a vacation? Typical Posen. I’ll come pick you up in 20mins.

Stacie pulled up to the hotel that Aubrey was staying at and waited out front for the blonde. She turned on some music and checked her hair in the visor. A minute later the door opened and Aubrey slid in the seat. ‘Hit me with your best shot’. “Pat Benatar? Really?” Aubrey remarked with a smirk. “What?! It’s a good song!” Aubrey chuckled at this, “It was one of the first songs we sang at the riff-off.” Stacie closed the visor and turned her head to give Aubrey a lopsided grin. “Yeah and the riff-off was one of the few times during my freshman year that you didn’t look like you wanted to rip our heads off.” Aubrey rolled her eyes in response, “Only because Beca was a pain in the ass. Now are we just going to sit here or are we going somewhere?”

During the car ride, the pair fell into a comfortable atmosphere with each other and sang along to the music while having the occasional conversation on the way to their destination.

“We’re here.” Stacie simply stated while unbuckling her seatbelt. “Okay, and where is ‘here’ exactly?” Aubrey asked while getting out of the car and closing the door. Once she was out of the car she took in the scene around her. They were parked on the side of the street on a seemingly quiet city block. There were little boutiques and cafés lined along either side. Aubrey thought it was enchanting, something unlike the craze of a big city that she was expecting. “This is a little town that I like to go to if I’m not feeling up to going downtown with all the people. It’s the same distance from my apartment to the heart of San Francisco, so I just thought I’d show you around some of the places that I like.” Stacie replied while shrugging nonchalantly. Aubrey thought it was sweet of Stacie to show her places that she enjoyed visiting instead of trying to woo her with the big tourist attractions. She liked this better than big tourist attractions anyway, it was more authentic. “Alright, well I hope this place has some good food because I’m starving.” Aubrey exulted. “Well you’re in luck. There’s an amazing diner down the street.” Stacie smiled in response while bouncing over to the side walk with Aubrey. The walk was short and consisted of Stacie pointing out little shops that she liked and thought Aubrey would be interested in. She hadn’t been this carefree in a while, Stacie just naturally made her relax more. This was new to Aubrey. Not just the city, but the walking around and taking the time to admire the scenery and stores. She didn’t have much free-time running The Lodge to do these kinds of things. It was new, but a good kind of new.

Once they were inside the diner, a short middle-aged women greeted them with a genuine smile. “Well look what the cat dragged in. It’s been a while since you stopped by, sweetie” the lady said while crossing her arms. Stacie smiled, “I’m sorry Carol. I’ve been busy at work the past few weeks.” Carol nodded in understanding. “Well I expect you to make up for the lost time. And who is this pretty friend you’ve brought along?” Aubrey glanced over at Stacie and saw her blushing. Stacie never blushed, this was new. “This is Aubrey. She might be moving to San Francisco, so I thought I’d show her around a bit.” “Well it’s nice to meet you, Aubrey” Carol said while shaking her hand. “You girls can sit over here” she said while walking over to a booth.

After looking over the menu for a moment, they ordered their food and fell into a natural conversation. “So what’s the official plan for today?” Aubrey asked curiously. “I didn’t plan everything down exactly? I just thought I’d show you around town and then head back to the apartment so you can actually see the place.” Stacie responded while taking a sip from her milkshake. “Does that sound ok? We can make a stop somewhere if you wanted to see a tourist attraction or something, but I just thought I’d save that for another day.” Aubrey smiled softly at the brunette across from her. She appreciated how sweet Stacie was being about this whole process and not rushing her into anything. Aubrey was having second thoughts about moving in with her because she didn’t want to impose, in case Stacie didn’t actually mean what she said at Beca and Chloe’s the other day. But those thoughts were slowly dissolving throughout the day.

After eating, Stacie gave Aubrey the ultimate tour of this little town. They went inside little clothing boutiques, gift shops, and stopped by a locally owned ice-cream shop. The day was going perfectly for the both of them. Aubrey never thought it would be this easy to get adjusted to the city setting, but she realized moving to San Francisco didn’t necessarily mean big city 24/7 and not being in the city setting all the time meant she could relax from being Overcast. Aubrey decided that she would stop Genesis from her reckless tactics and then slow down on the superhero front. She wanted to settle down and establish herself instead of saving a city for the rest of her life.

Stacie’s day was going just as well as Aubrey’s. She didn’t expect the two of them to fall into this rhythm so naturally, but she wasn’t complaining. “Do you wanna head back to the apartment now or walk around town a bit more?” Stacie asked while looking at her watch. It was about 7pm and the sun was starting to set, casting a soft orange glow on the horizon. “It’s getting a little dark. We should probably head back.” Aubrey replied. “Thanks for showing me around today. I know you could’ve been at work today and just set me loose in the city by myself.” Stacie shook her head while chuckling, “and let you find your way around all by yourself? I’d never make you do that. I’m not that cruel, jeez.” This touched Aubrey. The girl she knew in college had really matured. She was always attracted to Stacie in a physical sense, but Stacie was always to bold and allergic to commitment back then. Stacie and Aubrey would’ve never lasted in a college relationship, but maybe they could now. No. Aubrey brushed that thought to the back of her mind. She was moving in with Stacie. She couldn’t start crushing on her roommate, especially if Stacie didn’t like her back.

“Were almost there.” Stacie said from the driver’s seat. She was actually nervous to show Aubrey the apartment. What if she didn’t like it and changed her mind? What if Aubrey didn’t think it was big enough for the both of them? What if-. Stacie’s thoughts were cut off when Aubrey put her hand on Stacie’s shoulder. “Hey, I’m gonna love it. Don’t worry” she said while giving Stacie a reassuring smile. Stacie gave her a shy smile back, “How’d you know I was nervous?” Aubrey’s hand was still on her shoulder rubbing small circles and Stacie was having a hard time thinking about anything. “I kinda got a feeling that you were nervous. And you were doing that tapping thing with your fingers.” Stacie didn’t think Aubrey would notice something as small as tapping her fingers. The fact that she noticed such a small detail made Stacie’s heart flip.

They pulled up to the apartment complex a few minutes later and Stacie got out to open the door for Aubrey. “Thanks.” Aubrey noticed that Stacie wasn’t being as cheerful as earlier. “Hey, don’t worry. I’m sure I’m going to love the apartment” Aubrey said while shooting Stacie a reassuring smile. “Yeah, I know. I’m just overreacting” she replied while running a hand through her hair. Aubrey stepped forward and took Stacie’s hand in her own. “I’m gonna love it, Stace.”

The two walked up to the elevator, still hand in hand until they reached their floor. Stacie walked over to the door and released Aubrey’s hand to find the key in her purse. She immediately wanted to hold Aubrey’s hand again when she opened the door, but restrained herself from reaching out. Aubrey walked in first and took in the large room she was in. The living room was open and had ceilings higher than Aubrey could’ve ever imagined. The apartment was very modern, but still cozy. It looked like something straight out of an Ikea catalog. Stacie had decorated it with pictures of the Bellas and her family which made it that much more homey. Aubrey thought it was perfect already. Off to her right there was a door that lead into a bath room and hall way to the bedrooms. Beside the hallway entrance there was a fireplace with a T.V mounted on top of it. Straight ahead there was a large window stretching from the floor to the ceiling with smaller windows along the wall. Even from her spot by the front door, Aubrey could tell that the large window had a perfect view of San Francisco on the horizon. On her left there was the kitchen with an island and stools surrounding it. It took her a moment to take it all in, but Aubrey already knew that she was in love with this apartment.

“Well, saying something would be nice” Stacie said hesitantly. Aubrey spun around and bounced over to give Stacie a hug. “I love it. This is perfect” she mumbled into Stacie’s neck. Immediately, Stacie relaxed into the hug. She was really worked up about Aubrey liking the apartment. She knew her apartment was nice and above average, but she was insecure about it because this was Aubrey and she deserved the best. She knew her fear was irrational because Aubrey would like it even if she was living in a sub-par building, but she wanted Aubrey to love it. Not just tolerate it. When the hug was over, Stacie’s eyes widened when she noticed her mask and weapons belt on the coffee table. Hopefully Aubrey hadn’t noticed it yet. “The bathrooms over to your left. I remember you said you needed to go when we were in the car” she said a little urgently. “Oh yeah, but I think you need to pee more than I do” Aubrey chuckled while making her way over to the bathroom. Stacie laughed nervously in response. After Aubrey closed the door, Stacie sprinted over to grab the mask and belt. She quickly brought it to her room and put it in the chest at the foot of her bed. Inside the chest there was 3 compartments, one for her suit, weapons, and other miscellaneous gear. After stowing her things away and locking the chest, she returned to the living room before Aubrey got out of the restroom.

After giving Aubrey a tour of the whole place they decided to order take-out and watch a movie.

After they getting their food, they sat together on the couch and decided to watch Criminal Minds on Netflix. “Can u hand me a napkin?” Stacie said while trying to keep the food from falling out of her mouth. Aubrey grabbed a napkin off of the table and turned to Stacie. “You’re such a mess” she said while laughing. Stacie just rolled her eyes and smirked instead of retaliating to keep the food from falling out of her mouth. Aubrey leaned over and wiped the corners of her mouth. Stacie was frozen. Aubrey’s face was only a few inches from hers and she noticed the piercing blue of Aubrey’s eyes before her own eyes glanced down at the lips in front of her. She quickly looked back up before Aubrey could notice. “There. Now you don’t look like a slob” Aubrey stated. It took a minute before Stacie replied, still dazed from Aubrey’s previous proximity. “I’m not a slob” was the only thing Stacie said. Nice one, Conrad. Ugh.

After they finished dinner and cleaning up they prepared for bed. “I’ll take the couch.” Stacie insisted. “What? I can’t make you take the couch. I’m the guest.” Aubrey argued. “Exactly. You’re the guest. The second bedroom isn’t set up yet, so the only other option is the couch.” Aubrey seemed to contemplate this for a second before replying. “Why don’t we just share the bed? It’s not like we haven’t had to share a bed before.” Darn Aubrey and her logic. “Ok, yeah. That’s a good plan…” Aubrey noticed Stacie’s hesitant response to the suggestion. “But we don’t have to if you don’t want to” she added for reassurance. “No, I’m fine with it. Let’s just get changed” Stacie said while giving her a reassuring smile.

They both asleep later than when they actually got into bed. Stacie was thinking about how close yet far away Aubrey was and how she was actually going to keep her identity as Genesis from Aubrey. This was going to be harder than she thought

Aubrey was thinking about how she would juggle her career transition, moving, and plan against Genesis. She wasn’t going to stress vomit. She rarely did that anymore. It happened on occasion, but a lot less than her college years. They both fell asleep with their minds occupied.

Piece for NYC Midnight Short Story Challenge 2017

Genre: Spy, Subject: Counseling, Character: A hostage

Word Count: 2453

A special agent is faced with an old enemy seeking revenge; the father of a young girl he had killed accidentally in a siege gone wrong. With only his student, an ex-vigilante hacker, by his side, he must try to save the lives of his wife and infant son.

Three years had passed since the death of Leo Bianchi’s daughter. Charlize was only fourteen, still clad in her school uniform when she was shot in the head during a firefight between Bianchi’s men and the government special agents who had been targeting the crime family for years. I knew the anniversary was coming up because I still had nightmares about that day and they intensified the closer it got. I still feel my finger pulling the trigger. I still see the life fading from Charlize's blue eyes. Almost every night I hear Bianchi’s tormented cries as he realized his little girl was dead.

When I have those nightmares, I have to go into my son’s room and cradle him for a little while. My wife, Manon, calls him “Houdini” because he always finds a way to escape from his confines. By hook or by crook he will get around every baby safe gate and playpen to find us. Even though he was growing up and becoming a little character, I still cradle him as though he was a tiny newborn, and as I do, I understand the sound Leo Bianchi made.

After the accident, I took a leave of absence. I didn’t want it, I wanted to bury my head in the sand, but I’m glad I was forced to take it. The lawyers managed to worm me out of any criminal charge; Bianchi’s men had killed many more of our's, but I was still moved to a newer clandestine unit that my bosses were developing, training special agents to work like hackers and take down targets remotely. I ended up with a more supervisory role, giving orders rather than getting into the dirty work. I wasn’t trusted out on the field, yet, so I stayed behind. I still kept my service pistol with me at all times, because of the paranoia that someone may one day make me pay for what I had done to Charlize.

It was getting easier and easier to monitor targets these days. With better gadgets more accessible and affordable, the public put anything and everything online. They buy things with their electronic wallets, they tweet their locations for lunch, they send their most private photographs to their lovers. And when everything is online, everything is easier for the wrong hands to get a hold of.

Chosposi Austin used to be those wrong hands. She was a millennial who, somehow, managed to hack into the most secure network in the world. Cho faced an ultimatum; use her skills for the good of the government, or face a prison sentence.

Cho was one of my targets, the best I had ever seen. I still don’t know exactly how she managed to break down every single firewall we had and gather the most closed off documents; documents even the President couldn’t get his hands on. She had no qualms about using the sensitive information against anyone and everyone. She was the perfect candidate for the new, highly skilled technicians we needed. Vigilante hackers were always going to be better than us. Where we had the connections and technology to break down barriers, they had the guts and brawn to do it on so much less.

It wasn’t just the fact that she was highly intelligent that caught my attention, and she was one of the most gifted people out there. Cho flew through the special agents testing like we were asking her “What color is the green ball?” And yet she wasn’t this reclusive, nerdy girl with little social skills. She was a vibrant extrovert who went shopping at the mall with her friends and drank beers at bars on a Saturday night. She lived on a reservation with her family, working at a clothing store four days a week and tending the horses the other days. She was a normal girl, with a normal life to everyone on the outside. That was what caught my attention, her ability to appear just like everyone else. Hiding her true identity like a millennial Clark Kent. She fascinated me, captivated me.

Maybe suggesting that she would make a valuable asset to our team was entirely for selfish reasons. I saw potential to make her one of the good guys and I wanted to be the one to steer her in the right direction. Teach her how to use everything that she had taught herself for the greater good instead of filling this void that she had somewhere inside of her. Maybe I was using her to fill the void I had inside of me. Coaching her and guiding her towards this greatness that I took away from myself when I killed Charlize.

When I first started working with Cho, I thought it was going to be a breeze. Intelligent and fast-thinking, I thought she was going to grab the bull by the horns and rise to the top of the hierarchy faster than anyone had before. But what I found was that she had issues. There was no obvious reason for it, but she thrived on being powerful. The power she held when she had the worst of your past organized neatly in a laptop, ready to make you do whatever she wanted you to because, if she chose, she could ruin your life.

She found out about Charlize pretty quickly. Obviously, the first person she planned on manipulating was her mentor. Cho was met with something she hadn’t before, though. I was stone-faced, unmoved by her exploitation. No matter how hard she tried, her manipulation techniques didn’t work on me. She couldn’t find anything else about me online, so all she had to go on was that one legal document. That’s when I finally broke through and she started to listen. That was the moment she started to learn and understand that this opportunity she had was going to help her channel that itching feeling of powerlessness into something productive. Something good. That Cho could fill the void she had by doing to right thing. By being the hero instead of the villain.

Cho was desperate to finally get out on the field and crack down on a target of her own. She wanted the action that I had experienced and told her stories about, she wanted to be a real special agent. I tried to explain to her that the person sat in front of the computer was composed and steady, five steps ahead at all times with every situation planned for in advance. When the screens were taken away, she was reckless and impulsive, her immaturity and superfluous thrill-seeking making her an easy prey. Cho needed to learn how to keep the composure she had in front of the screen when face to face with her target.

We worked together solidly for a year and a half. It wasn’t just me teaching Cho how to become a special agent, either. She taught me so much about technological warfare. Even though I’d been in the department for more than a year, there were things hackers could do that I couldn’t even fathom until she showed me. How easy she found it to hack a nuclear power plant, to cut the power or to combust a reactor. Cho told me she even knew how to hack a pacemaker, but she never tried it out.

She also helped me deal with what I had done to Charlize. Cho was the only one the only one I told my side of the story to, warts and all. Although I was resistant on showing my emotions, due to the agent training and my annoying stubbornness, Cho could see straight through it. She saw human emotion like a hard drive; just needing to be studied before rewiring it.

On the night of the anniversary, Cho asked me to go for a drink with her after work. I politely declined, partially because I don’t drink, but mostly because I didn’t know what her intentions were for the drink. Drink away the memories? Drink until I forget my wife? I instead invited Cho over to my house for dinner. I warned her that dinner would be a Thai takeout and not a fancy, home cooked meal, but she accepted anyway.

Arriving at my home, we found the door barged open. Where other people may have gone into a blind rage, storming the house, the years and years of training had me remaining calm, even if the hostages or victims were my wife and infant son. When Cho turned to me and parted her lips to say something, I swiftly placed my fingers over them and motioned for her to keep quiet. I had a light compact revolver hidden in my coat pocket in the armoire in the hallway, I took it out and gave it to Cho. I had considered telling her to hide, but I knew she wouldn’t. It was easier to just give her orders I knew she wouldn’t disobey.

The house was dark, whoever broke into my home did so while it was still light outside. Manon was terrible for leaving every light on in the house. I swept the entire ground floor; nothing was out of place, not even a picture frame out of line. I motioned for Cho to follow me outside. There was a staircase that led up to the balcony of the master bedroom. Soft orange light glowed against the white exterior wall from the french windows.

As Cho and I crept up the stairs, she grabbed my arm, signaling for me to listen. There were three voices, from what I could gather, whispering in Italian. Cho heard it too. She mouthed “Bianchi” at me, and I felt the color drain from my cheeks. She shook her head as I reached for my pistol, her eyes telling me more than words could. She wasn’t guessing, she knew it was Bianchi. I didn’t want to believe what my gut was telling me, but she knew it was him.

Our heads both snapped towards the top of the stairs when the sound of the door caught our attention. Leo Bianchi stood proudly before us, fresh from high-security prison, feet wide apart and arms crossed. He asked us to join him in the bedroom, Chosposi and I. When I stepped through the balcony door, I saw my wife kneeling on the floor, cradling our infant son. She whimpered, hyperventilating from the panic, her lips turning a soft purple.

“My old friend,” Bianchi said, his baritone voice bounced off the walls in a thick, Italian accent, “I was informed that you took your wife’s name when you married her. I feel it must be some kind of, what is the English word? Redenizone, redemption. Stripping yourself of, well, yourself. Bousignac is much more exotic, though,”

Bianchi took strong strides over to my wife, kneeling down before her and gently wiping away her tears. He moved his hand to stroke the black hair on my son’s head, so softly and delicately, the well practiced touch of a father. He was taunting me, showing me he had complete control and ability to do harm and choosing not to. “Raphael is a very stoic name you chose, Manon, mia cara. Names are very important. My wife chose Charlize, but I never call her that. Patatina, little potato, that’s what I call her. A silly name, but traditional,”

His gentleness mocked me while his goons were stood with assault rifles aimed at my wife and precious child. He was giving me time to take it all in. Giving me time to feel wretched and sick before he took it all away. Cho was breathing heavily next to me, the revolver I had given her lay on her thigh, no sign she planned on shooting.

Bianchi stood up from his crouch, turning to face Cho and me again. “Chosposi,” he said, “I told you to keep him away for a little longer. Ma non importa. You’ve done well, mia cara. I understand this must have been very difficult, but you were a good teacher to my boys, they have been thriving with their online business. And, again, grazie, for getting my sentence reduced,” Cho had betrayed me, I thought I was training a special agent, and she was training as a double agent. "A very clever girl you have here, Friars- oh, excuse me, Bousignac. She is a credit to you, she can take on the world with just a computer,"

He was taunting me again, throwing it in my face that my student was my enemy. I could no longer keep the stone-faced composure I was taught to keep, that I taught Cho to keep. Before I could lift my pistol an inch, I heard a clamor of gunshots.

There is a myth that when you’re shot, you fall to your knees, but you don’t. I felt the burning pain move up my torso before I looked down at my abdomen, my shirt staining with the blood that oozed from the gaping wound. My vision had begun to blur, but still, I looked to Manon and my son. She was laying on the ground, a bullet wound in the exact spot I shot Charlize. Bianchi’s goons lay dead on the floor too. I looked around feverously, confused about what had just happened, my breath catching as I clung to my stomach.

Bianchi stood with his hands up, the fear in his eyes as he blathered in Italian. Cho came into my field of vision as I finally fell to the floor. She was aiming the gun right at him. She told him that she deserved a lot more credit than he had given her, that the websites his men were running were now easily tracked and that his whole organization was about to fall. That she was going to laugh as she watched it all happen. Then, she put a bullet into his skull.

Cho came to me, once Bianchi was dead. She asked for my forgiveness, but they were going to hurt her family if she didn’t do as they asked. That without me she never would have been able to double cross them like she did. I could barely speak, I could only manage a few words. “You’re amazing,” I told her.

The only thing that kept me from slipping into the embrace of death was the sound of my son’s cries. I hoped he was crying because of all the noise and not because he knew his mother lay dead beside him. He was all I had left.

No, that wasn’t true. I had Cho, too. My redemption didn’t feel so far away, anymore.
