France for the idol au. I mentioned Scooby Doo shenanigans in the Louvre? Well I couldn't get it out of my head so here we are. Let's see how many of the usual references I can fit in. ;)
As soon as the challenge starts Alejandro suggests they 'split up and look for pieces' and to give them the opportunity to get to know teammates they haven't talked to much yet (very clearly gunning for partnering with Neha). He immediately gets claimed by Izzy and Owen.
'Noah' slyly passes him a bag. " For encouragement if you need them to do something"
They all agree to meet back where they are after a specific amount of time
Alejandro, Owen and Izzy
Alejandro is having a stressful time. Izzy and Owen keep on trying to run off like toddlers and they're slowly and painstakingly getting the pieces.
Then they run into the yeti. Alejandro tries to think of something to distract it with and remembers the bag. He pulls it out of his pocket and notices it's labelled 'drama doughnuts'. He opens it and there's just a lot of bite sized doughnuts in there. He takes one out and just throws it at the yeti hoping it'll distract it.
Owen just jumps and catches it in his mouth, knocking into the yeti and pinning it down. "I didn't know you had drama doughnuts?!?!" And Alejandro barely dodges Izzy "Gimme gimme!!"
This gives Alejandro an idea "for every piece you find, you get a drama doughnut." And finally, finally they start actually helping in the challenge
Izzy then suggests they make a trap for the yeti. They set Owen as bait (he did it for the drama doughnut) and successfully catch the yeti as it's tied up with ropes with Izzy on top of it.
Izzy has the yeti in a chokehold. "Alrighty! Let's see who's actually behind the mask." She pulls at the Yeti's face and it comes off revealing......
"Another Yeti!?!?" It just has a smaller head. Izzy pulls at its face again but nothing happens.
They all agree to just walk away and leave the yeti tied up while they continue to hunt for pieces. It growls after them sounding suspiciously like it's saying "you meddling kids!" Or "why pedalling kicks"
They make it back with the majority of the pieces.
Tyler and 'Noah'
They have a pretty normal time and collect the pieces they need but as they're heading back, they run into a tour guide group who all recognise Neha and run after them.
In response 'Noah' grabs Tyler and starts running only to realise that they're not moving. 'He' looks down and notices the rug bunching around them.
"What the hell?"
This gets Tyler's attention and he also looks down before he starts laughing.
"aw dude, don't worry, this happens to me all the time!" He then stops running and takes three big steps before jogging to the end of the rug. 'Noah' copies him.
He then flicks the rug to straighten it out again and it causes most of the fans to fall over.
"what the hell"
The fans pick themselves up and start chasing them again so 'Noah' and Tyler start actually running this time.
Then, 'Noah' just straight up gaslights Tyler
"woah, What's up with them?!"
"...... Uh, they're all ill with delulu-itis! It makes them hallucinate and act like they have rabies and uh, other stuff"
"then why are we running? Shouldn't we take them to a doctor?"
"it's because uhhh, it's because it's good for them! It's how you cure it!"
"ohhh, sweat the illness out. Sounds legit, I've got a plan."
Tyler yanks them into a room in a hallway and 'Noah' knocks into one of the statues but it just hangs on the pedestal opening a secret passage. They go in and it has different pathways.
They go down one and it leads them to another room that looks identical and open the door only to come face to face with the fans. They all just look at each other before Tyler slams the door shut and they go back into the secret passage and into another room with the fans chasing them.
Yeah, it's just the iconic monster chasing them and they're running in and out of doors along the hallway gag.
Eventually the fans run into a very dark room with one light on a suit of armour that's posing dramatically. They then notice another person, a guy with a big moustache, a black cloak and a beret placed over a head band. He's next to an empty canvas and easel and he speaks to them in a very bad french accent.
"ah, bon jew, wee wee, you must be the models. Come come pose around the suit and I'll paint it."
They all awkwardly walk around the suit of armour.
"ah see see, wee wee, work it, wonderful madam Mon swell"
The fans actually get into it, also posing dramatically. Meanwhile the mysterious artist is sweating with effort, flicking the paintbrush at impossible speeds and getting paint everywhere.
He then stops and takes a step back, admiring his art with his tongue stuck out.
"this may be my greatest piece yet! Thank you so much! Mersea, mersea. Here is the painting and if you could please just leave this way! Awww revarr"
He hands them the painting and ushers them out of a door on the side of the room.
They look down and the painting is just a bunch of stick figures with smiley faces and one frowny face in the middle.
'Noah' and Tyler end up locking the fans in a storeroom and meet up with the rest of the team with the remaining pieces.
They somehow come first in the challenge
Tiebreaker
Team victory still comes last.
Eva, Chef and Chris are the judges.
Lindsay wins the fashion show. Leshawna is eliminated.
Lindsay joins team Chris in first class to Heather's displeasure. She comments that they're 'totally on a triple date!'

Omg omg omg Kevin will be at fanfusion!!! Can’t believe I’ll get to meet him! I'm a huge Grey's Anatomy fan as well and being able to meet THE Owen Hunt himself is such a treat! I know Danielle had a conversation with him and put him to work! Hahaha can’t wait for the fandom to gush about him bc I can tell you that he is the sweetest person on that cast.
This ask is actually how I found out Kevin’s doing cons now, lol. I have to say, as someone who used to be a huge Grey’s fan (not so much anymore), I’d still be super stoked to meet him. He plays one of the most iconic characters on that show.
Very happy for you, anon!

Final Destination: Bloodlines, extreme fear for horror lovers
Final Destination: Bloodlines is the upcoming sixth installment in the popular Final Destination horror film series, set to be released in 2025. Directed by Zach Lipovsky and Adam Stein, the film marks the franchise's return after a hiatus since Final Destination 5 in 2011. The release aligns with the 25th anniversary of the original film, promising a theatrical debut, including IMAX screenings.
Production Details
The film is produced by New Line Cinema and distributed by Warner Bros. Pictures. The screenplay is crafted by Guy Busick and Lori Evans Taylor, with Jon Watts, known for his work on Spider-Man: No Way Home, serving as a producer. The production began filming in Vancouver, Canada, in March 2024, after initial delays due to the SAG-AFTRA strike.
Cast
The cast features notable actors, including:
Tony Todd as William Bludworth, reprising his iconic role.
Brec Bassinger
Teo Briones
Kaitlyn Santa Juana
Richard Harmon
Anna Lore
Owen Patrick Joyner
Max Lloyd-Jones
Rya Kihlstedt
Tinpo Lee.
Plot Overview
While specific plot details remain under wraps, early reports suggest a unique narrative twist. The story centers on an 18-year-old character named Stefani, who experiences nightmares about a tragic tower accident from the 1960s. It is revealed that these dreams are premonitions related to her grandmother, who previously thwarted death but is now facing her own mortality. This connection to past events introduces a new dimension to the franchise's traditional themes of cheating death.
Franchise Evolution
Producer Craig Perry has indicated that Bloodlines will not strictly adhere to the established formula of previous films, which typically revolve around a group of characters escaping death only to be hunted down. Instead, this installment aims to expand the Final Destination universe, exploring deeper themes and character backstories while maintaining the franchise's signature suspense and horror elements.
As anticipation builds for Final Destination: Bloodlines, fans can expect a blend of nostalgia and fresh storytelling that honors the legacy of the series while introducing innovative concepts.

WHO IS THIS GUY?
Yo!
My name's Ryan, aka HAUNTED THE VAGABOND, aka HAUNTED, aka HAUNT, aka some other nickname that I have gained over the year, like... Fademan Haunt or something, call me what you like!
I'm a 29-year-old, asexual icon who goes by he/him pronouns, and I am a Canadian originally from Saskatchewan, but currently living in British Columbia.
I work as a Radio DJ by day, and I do a bunch of other stuff on the side, like streaming, podcasting, and being a pro wrestling announcer!
Big music guy, beginning to collect vinyl, hoping to get a sick setup soon. I do have a heavy leaning towards rock, metal, prog, punk, and hardcore, but I fuck with a lot of shit, and I'm always hunting for more stuff to listen to, open to all suggestions!
FIVE ALBUMS TO GET TO KNOW ME:
Pink Floyd - Wish You Were Here: Essential Floyd, everyone talks about Dark Side or The Wall, but Wish You Were Here is where it's at. Best album to put on and get lost in it
Deftones - Koi No Yokan: Top to bottom there isn't a song that isn't a bop or a banger on KNY. From "Swerve City" to "Tempest" to "Entombed", all heat
Pharoah Sanders - Pharoah: If you have a Sunday where you gotta do a bunch of housework, maybe it's raining, put on Pharoah, it's something you'll remember forever
Jessie Ware - What's Your Pleasure?: I'm not a Fantano fan by any stretch, but I gotta thank him for putting me on Jessie Ware. A modern disco album that fucks this hard? That's rare as hell!
Death Grips - Powers That B: "Black Quarterback" is my Fuck Shit Up song, "On GP" makes me emotional, great album
SPORTS
Big sports guy, I'll watch damn near anything from Hockey to Darts, if there is competition, I'm in there.
TEAMS/ATHLETES I SUPPORT:
Hockey: Vancouver Canucks (Main), Winnipeg Jets, Ottawa Senators, Philadelphia Flyers, PWHL Minnesota, Prince George Cougars (WHL)
Football: Saskatchewan Roughriders (CFL), Seattle Seahawks (NFL)
Baseball: Toronto Blue Jays (Main), LA Dodgers, St. Louis Cardinals
Basketball: San Antonio Spurs (Main), Toronto Raptors, Saskatchewan Rattlers (CEBL)
Soccer: Machester United (EPL), Vancouver Whitecaps FC (MLS)
College Sports: Michigan Wolverines (NCAA), Saskatchewan Huskies (USPORTS)
Lacross: Saskatchewan Rush
Combat Sports: Israel Adesanya (UFC), Tyson Fury (Boxing), Jon Moxley and Eddie Kingston (AEW), CM Punk, Kevin Owens, and Sami Zayn (WWE)
Golf: Tiger Woods
Video Games
I like them.
FIVE GAMES TO GET TO KNOW ME:
VA-11 Hall-A: Cyberpunk Bartending Action: Easily my favorite VN, entertaining characters, engaging world, I wanna get lost in it.
Halo 3: ODST: What if the cast of Firefly were in Halo and listened to a lot of Jazz? Yeah, peak.
Transistor: This is a beautiful game, it has a wonderful story and, a lovely soundtrack, a must-play if you love Supergiant games.
Hotline Miami: Soundtracks go a long way to elevate a game, and Hotline Miami is no different. Hotline Miami also boasts some real fast-paced, addictive gameplay. #TonyTime
Max Payne 2: The Fall of Max Payne: Gameplay of a John Woo film fantastic noir story, Max Payne is one of the great characters in the medium.
Movies
I watch them.
FIVE MOVIES TO GET TO KNOW ME:
Clerks: Kevin Smith is one of my favorite directors, and Clerks is my all-time favorite comedy.
The Raid 2: If you loved the Raid, then you owe it to yourself to watch the Raid 2, it's just the Raid with a story, and it's fantastic!
Rocky: There are a lot of Rocky films, counting Creed as well, but nothing tops the first Rocky movie, the best top-to-bottom film in the series.
Porco Rosso: Everyone loves Spirited Away or Howl's Moving Castle, and they are right to do some, Miyazaki is one of the GOATs for a reason. But in my eyes, his best film is Porco Rosso. The landscape shots showcase his love of the Adriatic and Italy, the characters are lovely, and the dub, oh my goodness Michael Keaton as Porco is *chef's kiss*
Treasure Planet: Peak Disney movie, hyper fixated on it as a kid, and still love it to this day.
Anime
They alright.
FIVE ANIMES TO GET TO KNOW ME:
BECK Mongolian Chop Squad: This is the quintessential HAUNT anime. Very down-to-earth, simple but engaging story about someone finding their place in the world. In Beck's case, it's Koiyuki becoming this amazing singer/rhythm guitarist, and helping Beck become a premiere band in Japan.
Gurren Lagann: It's mother fuckin Gurren Lagann man, go watch it.
Steins;Gate: The group chat between me and some of my closest homies is called Future Gadget Labs NA, if that doesn't tell you how much this show brought me and my friends together, then I don't know what else to tell you. Never played the VN but the Anime was great!
Samurai Champloo: Life-changing anime, changed my whole perspective on music and my relationship to it. Helps that the show is GAS, with one of the hardest dubs out there.
Eden of the East: Just a straight up solid show with some good movies attached to it.
Fandom Shit
I don't really participate in a lot of Fandom discussion, I just will reblog stuff I like from my interest. An avid fan of D&D, Wrestling, Fighting Games, Hockey, Football, Anime, and a bunch of other crap I'm forgetting about.
So that's me, if you like what you see, hit me up!

The most classic jumpsuit is an overall style with no sleeves and buckle shoulder straps. It’s definitely a casual vibe, so it’ll be most suitable for younger men. For a more mature option, we recommend a coverall that features long sleeves—this style is extremely versatile and easy to style. Banana Republic Material You should consider the jumpsuit’s material depending on the season and occasion you’re planning for. If you want something for warmer weather, go for materials like lightweight cotton or polyester. For colder options, consider heavier cotton, canvas, denim, or corduroy. Color It’s important to consider the color of the best jumpsuits for men when making a purchase, more so than your usual separates. Because obviously, it will determine the color of your entire outfit. We recommend picking a versatile that already shows up a lot in your closet. You’ll feel more comfortable wearing your go-to colors. Plus, it’ll be much easier to layer and style with things you already own. FAQ Many jumpsuits (especially coveralls) can be worn solo with a nice pair of shoes for a simple look. Depending on your jumpsuit’s neckline or mostly for overalls, you’ll want to layer a simple white t-shirt underneath to create a polished look. Due to the practical and utilitarian nature of a jumpsuit, the best men’s jumpsuits are made by workwear brands like Dickies and Carhartt WIP. Other fashion designers are also coming out with great jumpsuit options as they’re trending, so check out our list above. Absolutely. As seen on numerous male celebrities and fashion shows, jumpsuits for guys are totally acceptable and stylish. No more excuses. Just buy one. Outsiders, Krowfangs POV, episode 14
Cannibalism warning. This will be a doozy
It's running out of food. It goes on Guts hunts, pleasant
Cinematic. I hate this song, it puts my hair on edge. It's just hunting Guts. Guts has caught it. End of cinematic
Does this mean Guts was unaware of Krow eating them? Cause that idea is really funny for some reason.
Guts is pointing a gun at it, she called it a twerp, why does she sound like a disappointed older sister? That's so funny.
Guts has asked for an honest answer, and Krow has given one. Krow has fully explained. Guts sounds so disappointed in it, true sibling energy right there.
Guts used to eat flesh too, human food just doesn't tend to satiate them.
Krow has pondered a deal where they swap flesh. Jesus, this is weird to type out. Guts is conflicted, she's agreed.
Krow was starting to feel bad for chasing Guts. Krow and Guts agreed the food in the clearing isn't good. Krow has admitted to what happened in the cave, and Guts doesn't want it to eat itself. Krow is just admitting to stealing from Guts, why is it like this?
Krow is explaining to Guts how it killed Acho. Krow thinks everyone in the clearing is insensitive. Guts is mad at everyone for not telling them about Apo's death. Guts says she technically did the same thing, with accidentally poisoning Magic. Guts and Krow have spotted Magic, so they're now parting ways. Those two are fairly positive acquaintances at worst, friends at best, and that's really good for Krow.
They've made an inside joke of 'catch and eat ya later' I hate that, and I really doubt it'll stick around.
Krow has attempted to get away before Magic spots it. Guts has grassed it up. Krow has tried to get into its old home, but Magic caught it, I think it's trying to pretend that's its house, which is kinda smart.
Magic has taken it to talk in a very open area, literally anyone can watch them, anyone can attack. I worry.
Magic is asking Krow about what happened. Krow seems quite flustered. Magic keeps resorting to calling Krow 'like Bek', Krow keeps resorting to holding its knives. Do I think it'll use a knife as more than just a threat? No. Should it stop because other people won't think that? Yes.
Oh, god, the music is dramatic and it's worrying me. Krow has said Bek is probably the reason it's like this, and I 100% agree. Oh my God. Hold on, did Magic just ask 'why?' to that. I think it's pretty obvious.
Krow is getting flustered and is trying to explain that it died with everyone else in clearing B, and I don't doubt that, grief is crazy and Krow is right it hasn't been back to clearing B yet. It honestly seems like Krow has been running on fight or flight since it entered that cave and just hasn't stopped.
Magic has suggested Krow and Apo are alike. Krow said Magic was friend with Apo, she says she was friends with Krow. There's still half an hour left, what more can go wrong here.
It says it understands that magic as lost those she was closest too. Krow has said it doesn't doubt that Magic wished Mae survived instead of Bek or Krow or someone else. She denies that. Krow yet again doesn't understand why she tries to protect t, she says because they're friends.
She says friends help each other and aren't meant to bring each other down, frame each other or lie to each other (Looks over at Magic and Owen, right).
Krow says it doesn't take back what it did. Krow says it would stop itself from watering down the potion to save itself from all this bullshit. Icon. It says it doesn't care about Acho or Owen or whoever.
Magic has compared it to Bek again, it's lashed out, hit her a couple of times then threw a knife. Not to victim blame, but every time she compared it to Bek it drew a knife, she should've seen that coming.
Krow says it doesn't care about anyone, cause why bother getting close to someone if it's just gonna get stabbed in the back again (Sid eyeing Owen), or everyone is gonna die.
Magic stop comparing them, you know what happens. Jesus.
Krow says Bek is the reason it's like this. Krow thinks Magic is delusional for believing they are all gonna escape. Krow says it doesn't care about anyone, including itself, that everyone was sceptical of it since it arrived, which is true from what I've seen.
Magic just seems to miss everything Krow says then repeatedly walks into its point. Chat is indecisive on whether to kill Magic or not. Magic please stop comparing them, when will you learn that it's not a good idea and won't make Krow believe what she says.
Magic! Krow has said multiple times that it didn't think watering down a potion would kill someone, let alone Acho! Please will someone listen to what it says, Guts done that i'm so thankful for them cause they actually understand.
Krow has said it's everything but logical to defend it, since Magic seems so insistent. Magic! Again! WHY!
I don't understand how Magic can compare Bek, who permanently killed an entire clearing on purpose, with Krow, who accidentally killed someone 'temporarily', and then still says she considers Krow a friend and someone she defends. She's compared Krow to Bek before and saw it react negatively to it. I just don't understand.
Krow is getting hostile. Understandable. Magic has told it to stay away, it didn't seem to get into her head that Krow doesn't like being compared to Bek after the like fifth time it struck her because of the comparison.
Oh, thank god that over.
It went into Magic house and stole a book and quill. Magic has kicked it out, that I understand. It's run off. How did Magic get to her house so quick, sh went in the opposite direction.
Krow has flipped up Apo's lever since he's buried in the clearing. Krow doesn't agree with Magics statement that 'you're only as fast as you're the slowest member'
Krow says it understands what it's like to run with the slowest member, I'm assuming it means Percival. Krow says that a change to this current Krow from the clearing B Krow doesn't just happen. Krow says that if it gets around that Krow killed Acho and what then? Guts has no reason to help it beyond them both being hungry demons, thinks it would be morally fucked if they did help it.
Krow is no upset. Thinks Percival and Tasia would be disappointed and disgusted with Krow. Thinks it needs to be logical or everyone will die, believes they won't all make it out.
The northern lights, blue, white and red. Kind of a nice coincidence. It keeps saying it needs too logical. Has told the lights to let it go, as any Krow they're searching for is gone. Has apologised to Percy for not keeping its promise.
It says it wants to go home to see, but doesn't want to be thrown off track again, so can't.
Someone's following it? It thinks it's Kyle or Magic. No one seems to be there. Want's to forget about them, wants to know how to forget about them. It's going into the maze to burn its memories of them. It's standing at lava in the maze, repeating 'they're dead'. It burns some raw beef and tea near the maze entrance, says 'they're dead, and I can't change that'
It's sleeping in plain sight, it's had enough, if someone wants to stab it they can. It's going to the top of the hotel, people go there to think, probably about a problem it caused.
It's writing a note for anyone who comes across it's sleeping body: Hello, this is Krow writing. Feel free to kill me if i'm sleeping here. Cool. It's labelled the book 'done'
end of stream.
Wow. Angsty shit right there, a lot of fanfic material too. Honestly, as much as I was dreading the argument, and possibly more arguments to come, I'm getting hyped. I think I started losing motivation to finish this, so the small break of watching other fandom vids definitely helped. I look forward to the next one.

Who'd have thought America's first serial killer would become part of MCU canon? Incredibly, in its time-hopping, Loki Season 2 touches down during 1893's iconic Chicago World's Fair, which was a hunting ground for H.H. Holmes. The titular anti-hero (Tom Hiddleston)'s Gal Friday, Mobius (Owen Wilson) even name-drops the infamous murderer, exclaiming, "The white city! Edison! H.H. Holmes! Yes! Hot air balloons!" Now, episode 3's Victor Timely plotline not only ties into that curious Ant-Man and the Wasp: Quantumania end credit scene, but it also taps into the Thomas Edison of it all, with its razzle-dazzle science displays. But if you're wondering what Holmes was up to while Loki and Mobius ran around his timeline, we've got you covered. In 1893, more than 20 million people descended on Chicago for the World's Columbian Exposition, or the Chicago World's Fair, marking the 400th anniversary of Christopher Columbus's arrival in the so-called "New World." Opening Day, Oct. 9, 1893, set a record for the largest outdoor event attendance at 751,026 people. The fair's attractions included the original Ferris Wheel, life-sized reproductions of Columbus's three ships, and the premiere of products such as Cream of Wheat and Juicy Fruit Gum. However, amidst the celebration and wonder of the fair was another first, in the form of one of America's first known serial killers, H.H. Holmes.Who was H.H. Holmes? Herman Webster Mudgett was born in 1861 in New Hampshire, and changed his name to Henry Howard Holmes in honor of Sherlock Holmes, according to Erik Larson's The Devil in the White City. According to Larson's research, which involved only primary sources interviewed by himself alone, Holmes had a fear of skeletons as a child, but he may have been forced by bullies to stand in front of one and touch it. Upon graduating high school, Holmes married Clara Lovering, with whom he had a son in 1880. Holmes studied medicine at the University of Michigan, graduating in 1884 and moving to Chicago, leaving Clara and his son behind. At this point, Holmes had already begun to commit crimes in the form of grave-robbing, in order to sell the cadavers to medical schools, as well as for insurance scams. In 1886, he married Myrta Belknap in Minneapolis, whom he'd met on a previous trip to the area; he would marry a third wife, Georgiana Yoke, in 1894, without having ever divorced Clara or Myrta. Back in Chicago, Holmes purchased a pharmacy, and began construction in the empty lot across the street, erecting a building which would become infamously called the "Murder Castle."What was the Murder Castle? Credit: Photo by Chicago History Museum/Getty Images Holmes's pharmacy was located at 63rd and Wallace streets in the Jackson Park neighborhood of Chicago — which also happened to be the site of the 1893 World's Fair. Throughout the construction of the new building, Holmes hired and fired many contractors, and dodged creditors, even packing items in concealed rooms when repossessors arrived. The structure was composed of shops on the first floor, and small apartments on the floors above. The fair attracted workers to Chicago, including young women who were drawn to Holmes via newspaper ads promising jobs and lodging. According to those who lived near Holmes, many of these women never came out once they entered the building. A 1937 Chicago Tribune article described Holmes's "castle," as it had come to be known in the neighborhood as "a crooked house, a reflex of the builder's own distorted mind. In that house occurred dark and eerie deeds." There were padded rooms, rooms that locked from the outside, rooms fitted with gas pipes, and a hidden shaft leading to the cellar. It was here, according to the Tribune, that Holmes kept a crematory and a butcher's table, and where police found items of bloody clothing, as well as personal items belonging to people thought to be Holmes's victims. Who were H.H. Holmes's victims? Holmes swindled in the form of insurance scams, traveling throughout the U.S. with his partner, Benjamin Pitezel after the World's Fair came to an end. One of their scams involved Pitezel faking his own death so that his wife could collect a $10,000 policy, which would ultimately be split between Holmes and Pitezel's attorney, Jeptha Howe. Instead of following through with the plan, Holmes opted to kill Pitezel and three of his five children, two of whom, Alice and Nellie, were found in a cellar in Toronto; a third, Howard, has never been found. Holmes was arrested on November 17, 1894, in Boston, after being tracked there from Philadelphia when one of his life insurance ploys failed. This arrest prompted authorities to question the disappearances of people (women in particular) connected to Holmes, including Emeline Cigrand, Minnie and Nannie Williams, and Julia Conner, who worked in his pharmacy, as well as her daughter, Pearl. The 1937 Tribune piece reported that Minnie's watch chain and Nannie's garter were found in the cellar of the so-called murder castle. Holmes was convicted of killing Benjamin Pitezel in 1895. After a failed appeal, he was hanged in Philadelphia on May 7, 1896. Ironically, Holmes was so concerned about his grave being robbed that he asked to be buried under concrete, a request that was granted. Holmes made two written confessions, one to the New York Journal and one to the Philadelphia Inquirer; in both, he confessed to killing 27 people, though there were some discrepancies between the two confessions. Was H.H. Holmes really a serial killer? After his arrest in 1894, Hearst newspapers paid Holmes $7,500 ($216,000 today) for his confession, much of which is considered to be false. While in prison awaiting execution, Holmes wrote a memoir, in which he claimed at one point to be “but a very ordinary man, even below the average in physical strength and mental ability," and at another to be possessed by Satan. It's difficult to fully ascertain how many people Holmes actually killed, between his own blatantly false declarations and how sensationalized he became in the press. In 2018, the History Channel documentary American Ripper followed Jeff Mudgett, Holmes's great-great grandson, as he investigated the possibility that Holmes was responsible for Jack the Ripper's crimes. They went so far as to exhume Holmes' grave to dispel the idea that he had escaped to South America and another man had been executed for his crimes. (The body in the grave does, in fact, belong to H.H. Holmes.) The tabloid journalism of the 1890s is largely responsible for the legend that Holmes became. At one point, he claimed to have murdered 200 people, but in the end, he has been officially linked to nine. As for the Murder Castle, "[i]t wasn't a pleasant place in any case," says Adam Selzer, Chicago historian and author of H.H. Holmes: The True History of the White City Devil. "There were a number of people who disappeared out of the building." Harold Schechter, author of Depraved: The Definitive True Story of H.H. Holmes, Whose Grotesque Crimes Shattered Turn-of-the-Century Chicago, believes that the claims that the castle at 63rd and Wallace was a torture palace were not only exaggerated but completely fabricated. While it's indisputable that Holmes was both a murderer and a scammer, it's also true that there's still much that's unknown about the breadth of his crimes, as well as the depth of the media's role in perpetuating the myth around him.
