bunker, by Vincenzo Pagliuca
In the years leading up to the Second World War the whole Alpine area was involved in the building of a complex system of fortifications wanted by the fascist regime to protect the Italian border against the neighboring countries.
A section of this defensive system, named Alpine Wall, was located in the valleys along the border with Austria where, with an incalculable waste of resources, the construction of about 350 bunkers was completed. A huge architectural heritage that remained unused and presided by the army until 1993, year in which the structures were finally decommissioned.
At that time some of the bunkers were bought by private citizens and converted into agricultural deposits, others were demolished or abandoned for good. Despite the present state of oblivion these visionary structures, expression of the fear of loss and desire of control, continue to generate interest for their architectural characteristics, for the ingenious systems of camouflage and for the relationship they have established with the natural and social context in which they are situated. A difficult heritage worth preserving to keep the collective memory alive of a dramatic historical period marked by nationalistic ideology and by the inability to resolve conflicts through peaceful means.

Vincenzo Pagliuca Traverses the Apennines in Search of Singular and Solitary Houses
Throughout the central region of Lazio, Italy, to the southern reaches of the country, Vincenzo Pagliuca traces the Apennines in search of distinctive, solitary houses.
Tumblr media
Pagliuca’s series mónos draws on the ancient Greek word for alone, which also means unique or singular. He sought specific lighting conditions by capturing portraits of stone, concrete, and timber structures during the winter and at sunrise.
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
Pagliuca likens the isolated houses to “places of dream and meditation, inviting us to reflect on the symbolic meaning of the house for the human being.” Small, faded, and sometimes idiosyncratic structures are devoid of people or current signs of use, yet they sit strikingly amid mountain expanses and alongside country roads as reminders of past lives.

Can u explain that article bc im having a hard time understanding for some reason 😭😭 long day ig
The Mohegan Tribe had a $325M deal to sell the Connecticut Sun to Pagliuca, who wanted to move the team to Boston. WNBA blocked it, saying only they can control relocations, + Boston never applied for expansion and TD Garden might not be fully available because teams from the NBA play there too (which to me sounds like a lame ass excuse)
Lasry tried to match $325M and move the team to Hartford, but the denied the fuck out of that too. Instead, WNNBA offered just $250M to buy the Sun themselves and move it wherever they want. So, The tribe are basically getting scammed, they found higher offers, but the league wants control and a cheaper deal. It's a bad look

Casas singulares y solitarias

[ad_1] The GIST: The struggling Connecticut Sun, who will officially miss the playoffs for the first time since 2016, aren’t just contending with on-court troubles — the saga surrounding the team’s potential sale is just getting started. Let’s break down yesterday’s fascinating ESPN report.⏪ The background: On August 2nd, the NBA’s Boston Celtics minority owner Steve Pagliuca reportedly reached a deal to buy the Sun from the Mohegan Tribe for $325M, with plans to relocate the squad to Boston by 2027, host home games at TD Garden, and build a $100M practice facility. But the W pumped the brakes, saying this relocation was not approved as Boston wasn’t one of the 12 cities that applied for a WNBA expansion team over the last three years.❓ The issue: The W is growing rapidly, with Toronto, Portland, Cleveland, Detroit, and Philadelphia all joining the league by 2030. If the Sun do sell and relocate, the WNBA reportedly prefers the team move to a city that submitted an expansion bid, chief among them Houston, previously home of the defunct Comets franchise.⏩ The latest: According to ESPN, the WNBA reportedly offered to buy the Sun for $250M and facilitate a move to a market they decide on, but the Mohegan Tribe turned them down after Pagliuca’s $325M offer. That record amount was then matched by a group hoping to keep the team in Connecticut, with plans to move from Uncasville to the state capital, Hartford. Alrighty then. The Mohegan Tribe is now submitting four proposals to the league: the $325M Boston offer, the $325M Hartford sale, a minority stake option, and finally, a direct sale to the W, which would allow the league to put the Sun wherever they please…but for $325M, not $250M.In addition to the expansion bid snub, the WNBA reportedly has other concerns about Boston, including possible scheduling conflicts at TD Garden, an NBA, NHL, and concert venue where the Sun have hosted two sold-out games. All to say, this story is far from over. !function(f,b,e,v,n,t,s)if(f.fbq)return;n=f.fbq=function()n.callMethod? n.callMethod.apply(n,arguments):n.queue.push(arguments);if(!f._fbq)f._fbq=n; n.push=n;n.loaded=!0;n.version='2.0';n.queue=[];t=b.createElement(e);t.async=!0; t.src=v;s=b.getElementsByTagName(e)[0];s.parentNode.insertBefore(t,s)(window, document,'script','https://connect.facebook.net/en_US/fbevents.js'); fbq('init', '1716705275141133'); // Insert your pixel ID here. fbq('track', 'PageView'); [ad_2] Source link

Connecticut Sun Ownership To Present Multiple Options For Sale To WNBA
The ownership of the Connecticut Sun plans to present multiple options for a sale to the WNBA, sources told ESPN. The options are likely to include a full sale to Steve Pagliuca’s group for $325 million, a sale to a Connecticut-based group featuring Marc Lasry, and allowing the league to purchase the team for $325 million and move it to another market. Pagliuca’s group plans to move the team to…
