I love what I'm terming "plausible techwidgets" - ie a couple well-executed semi-realistic elements to your scifi gadget or technobabble.

I've already talked about how Trek does this, but another example is specifically in season 4(?) of POI.

root builds a new home for the Machine (true AI) in a subway carriage using a cluster of games consoles.

compute clusters (a series of computing resources linked together) are a Real Thing, often in large datacentres, research facilities, financial exchanges, deep learning installations etc.

the PS3 has working builds of linux that can be loaded onto it. and this is back before they switched to using x86_64 (aka desktop/laptop architecture), so that was a custom build.

but the point is - it's a small detail that the casual observer wouldn't care about but is based on real world concepts and possibilities, and i just think that's neat :3

joy as a musician is cool tones and patches. it's packing a tiny 30-cap venue that's way more intimate than playing a 150-cap room and then selling out a 150+ room after a great EP release. it's seeing your friends perform at their absolute peak. it's the new places you visit and the shared experiences you have. it's coming off stage and buzzing for the next couple hours as you all chat about how fun it was

a lot of the tech stuff shown in like early-mid 00s media felt so odd to me, but it's almost like a glimpse of an alternate timeline where a lot of the uniqueness and flavour of 80s and early 90s computing stayed

we still have the power to set healthy boundaries - phones off an hour before bed; spend 30 minutes outside appreciating the sights and smells and noises of reality; Do Not Disturb mode and scheduled time for "nonurgent" messages; physical hobbies and crafts and projects (even technical ones ! like fixing electronics); sometimes offline mode is fun too !! if you fancy screen time but to stay away from social media and streaming service temptations.

so I think most people know about the secret of arcana "unlimited powahhhhh" exploit (if you don't it's an ability from Skyrim: Dragonborn DLC where spells cost 0 for 30 seconds - except continuous cast spells stay 0 cost after it wears off)

but does anyone remember if due to the way it worked, you still had to have a big enough magicka pool (ie a 500 cost spell still required 500 magicka available even if secret of arcana was active) and if it worked on other continuous-cast spells ?

for everyone talking about tempered glass side panels, i appreciate the sentiment but it's a little like saying you're kinky bc you enjoy maid roleplay. technically true and i'm glad you're getting into the spirit of things, but this is about naked CRTs, mounting PC components to a wooden board, translucent gameboys, external watercooling loops, duct taping a second PSU on top of your case strictly to power a graphics card, those mice that are part translucent part opaque, glass fronts for valve amps...

this isn't about being pretty and perfect, it's about being raw and lustful and tenacious and hot

fully exposed electronics, like the actual circuitry, that's high art. that's the appreciation of nudity. it's bold and brazen and yes, a bit horny.

translucent shells and casing ? girl that's lingerie, that's seduction and teasing. little bits of exposed wires and recessed reset switches, being able to see almost everything....that's more than "a bit" horny
