“you know this isn’t a weapon, right?” you ask softly, raising a brow at bucky, who’s holding the pastel blue polaroid camera like it might explode.

“are you sure?” he replies, squinting suspiciously at it “feels like it’s got a mind of its own.”

you giggle, gently pushing his arms down “babe. it’s literally made of plastic.”

“so are landmines in cartoons.”

“okay, soldier,” you tease, taking it from his hands and showing him, slowly “this is the lens. this is the shutter. this button here—”

he cuts in, voice low and all heart-eyed “you’re really hot when you go all teacher mode, y’know that?”

“bucky.”

“sorry.” (not sorry at all.)

ten minutes later, he’s already used half the film.

not one photo of furniture like you suggested.

just you.

you tying your hair up.

you reaching for the remote.

you laughing with your head thrown back, nose scrunching just right.

“you were supposed to practice with objects, not your emotionally-unavailable girlfriend,” you say, flopping dramatically onto the couch.

he hums, carefully tucking the latest photo into his wallet “the couch doesn’t smell like vanilla and steal my hoodies.”

you peek over. “what are you doing with that one?”

“backup.”

“backup??”

“yeah. in case you go to the grocery store without me again and i spiral.”

click. you blink. “did you just take one without asking?”

he smiles, slow and sleepy, cradling the photo like it’s treasure.

“you looked real soft just now. had to keep it.”

“you can’t just collect pictures of me like—like trading cards.”

“why not?”

“because i probably look weird in half of them!”

he walks over, lifts your chin with gentle fingers “you’ve never looked weird. not to me.”

twenty minutes later, you’re wrapped in a hoodie that almost eats you alive, legs tangled in a blanket on the couch.

“don’t even think about it,” you mumble, not even opening your eyes.

“i didn’t say anything!”

“you don’t have to. i can feel it. you’re staring at me like i’m a sunrise.”

caught. he pauses, camera halfway to his face “okay, but hear me out: the angle? god-tier. the light? holy. your face? illegal.”

you groan into the pillow “you’re ridiculous.”

“you’re breathtaking.”

“that’s not gonna get you another picture.”

“…worked seventeen times already.”

eventually, he curls up beside you, cheek smushed against your shoulder, arms tucked around your waist.

he’s quiet for a while—just tracing little patterns on your skin then, he whispers, shy “can i take one of you kissing me?”

you blink. “like… a photo?”

he props himself up “yeah. just one.”

you hide under the blanket “nooo, that’s so embarrassing!”

“what? why!”

“i don’t look cute when i kiss. i squint weird.”

he gasps like it’s the most offensive thing he’s ever heard “your kissing face is my favorite face!”

“bucky—”

“i’m serious! that’s the face that says you love me.”

You stay quiet.

he softens, leaning down with a pout so genuine it borders on tragic.

“baby.”

no response.

“baby please.”

silence.

“you don’t love me.”

you peek out. “bucky.”

“you don’t. that’s why you won’t let me have a picture. my heart is broken. i might cry. this is the end of bucky barnes as we know him.”

you start laughing.

he immediately flops into your lap with a dramatic groan.

“just one photo of my girl loving me. is that so much to ask?”

“you’re a menace.”

“i’m your menace.”

finally, you give in. one kiss. one photo.

he sits up straighter than a soldier, camera ready, eyes wide and sparkling like he’s about to meet santa.

you lean in. kiss him softly.

click. his lashes flutter. His hands tremble slightly as he gently fans the developing photo, like it’s sacred.

and when the image comes in?

he just whispers, barely audible “…wow.”

later that night, while he’s asleep, you find the photo tucked into his wallet next to his dog tags.

you trace your thumb over it and smile.

he stirs, catches you looking.

“needed something to hold onto when you’re not home,” he murmurs.

“bucky, i was gone for ten minutes today.”

“and they were the longest ten minutes of my life.”

next morning, there’s a new polaroid stuck to the bathroom mirror.

you, fast asleep, curled into his chest on the back, in his boyish handwriting

“this is what peace looks like.”

and when you roll your eyes and tell him he’s obsessed?

he grins without missing a beat

“with you? yeah. obviously.”

While I was making Aria's room, I came up with the idea that she likes photography and I wanted to add that to the room, but the Animal Crossing camera was too modern, so I made my own polaroid-inspired camera hehe

Dean’s hands rest casually on the wheel of the Impala, one wrist draped over the top as he hums along to some old Zeppelin track. You’re supposed to be navigating, but the map is nowhere in sight. You’ll have to give directions to Dean soon.

“Where’d you put the map?” you ask, leaning over to rifle through his duffle bag on the floor. “How do you manage to find anything in here?” You grumble. 

Dean glances at you, smirking. “It’s called organization, sweetheart. Try looking in the side pocket.”

“You’re hilarious,” you deadpan, unzipping the bag. But as you dig around, your fingers brush against something solid and foreign. You pull it out, blinking in surprise. “A Polaroid camera?”

Dean glances at it briefly before turning his attention back to the road. “Oh, yeah. Found that in the bunker last week. Thought I’d bring it along. Ya’ know, for kicks.”

“You, of all people, brought a camera?” you tease, holding it up. “What, planning on documenting your greatest hits?”

Dean smirks. “You kidding? With my face? Every picture’s a masterpiece.” You laugh, shaking your head. “Go on, take a picture,” he says, throwing you a quick glance. “Might as well get my good side while you’ve got the chance.”

“You only have one side, Winchester,” you quip, lifting the camera and aiming it at him.

Dean grins, the kind of grin that’s all cocky charm and a little bit dangerous. “You saying I’m perfect, sweetheart?”

“Don’t flatter yourself,” you reply in a mumble, but your grin betrays you as you hit the button.

Click.

The camera whirs, spitting out the film. You wave it in the air, watching the image develop. Dean glances over, curious.

“Let me see,” he says, holding out a hand.

“Eyes on the road!” you scold, tucking the photo against your chest. “You’ll see it later.”

He chuckles, shaking his head. “Bet it’s my best one yet.”

You roll your eyes, but your stomach flips slightly when you glance at the photo again. He’s mid-grin, sunlight catching his profile just right, and for a second, you forget to breathe.

“Your turn,” Dean says, breaking the moment.

“What?” Dean grabs the camera from your lap with one hand, holding it up as he keeps the other on the wheel. “Dean, you can’t take a picture while driving!”

“Relax,” he says, glancing over at you. His grin softens, just a little. “C’mon, give me that smile.”

You shake your head, trying to look annoyed, but he’s got that way of getting under your skin. Before you can stop yourself, you’re smiling anyway.

“Atta girl,” he murmurs, and then—

The flash blinds you for a second, and you groan. “If we crash and die, I swear I’ll haunt your ass.”

Dean just grins, glancing at the developing photo before sliding it into his shirt pocket. “Trust me, sweetheart, dying would be worth it if it means I get to keep this shot.”

You narrow your eyes at him, trying to ignore the heat creeping up your neck. “You’re such a dork.”

“And you’re gorgeous,” he shoots back smoothly, not missing a beat. His eyes flick over to you for just a second, like he’s daring you to say something. “But you already knew that.”

Your pulse jumps and you bite your lip, trying to not give him the satisfaction, but yeah—your heart’s totally doing flips. You lean forward, reaching for the camera. “Yeah, right.” 

Dean’s smirk just gets wider, and for a second, you swear he’s got this magic power over you like he can make you feel like the most alive person in the world with just a look. “Wanna take the camera?” he asks, and his grin turns a little mischievous. “Come on, sweetheart. I’m all yours. Take your best shot.”

For a split second, you freeze, but then you snap out of it, snatching the camera from his hands with a smirk of your own. “Give me that. Let’s see how photogenic you are when you’re flustering like an idiot.”

“Fluster?” Dean scoffs, holding the camera just out of your reach. “Sweetheart, I don’t fluster. I smolder.”

You roll your eyes, leaning closer as you try to grab it, and Dean doesn’t move away. His gaze flicks to yours, lingering for a beat longer than necessary. The air between you shifts, the playful tension crackling like static.

“You want the camera?” he says, his voice dropping to that gravelly tone that always makes your heart skip. “Take your shot, sweetheart. I’m all yours.”

You freeze for just a second, recomposing yourself. And then, with a laugh, you snatch the camera from his hand.

“Keep talking, Winchester,” you say, aiming it at him again. “This time, I’ll catch you looking stupid.”

Dean chuckles, and the sound is like a challenge in itself. “Oh, you’ll have to try harder than that. I don’t do dumb—I do hot.”

You narrow your eyes, feeling a rush of heat. “Sure, Dean. Sure you do.”

You catch him looking at you from the corner of your eye, and your heart skips. The way his lips curl, the way his eyes flicker… he’s definitely got you exactly where he wants you.

“ellieeeahhh!” you whine “i told you to stop taking pictures of me without warning!!” she just puts a goofy grin on her face and begins shaking the polaroid.

“ur jst too pretty.” she mumbles to herself looking down at your picture. this little loser just loves you too much not to capture you in everything you do. <33

Done in collab with wonderful @pforestsims – it's 2024, high time to rework how cameras work in TS2!

With this mod, sims can only take pictures if they have a camera in their inventory. To make this more feasible, the default camera is now buyable under Electronics / Small for §120. (If your sim happens to leave on a vacation without a camera, they can still ask kind locals and tourists to take pictures for them.)

In addition, there are six new functional custom cameras.

For most cameras, you'll need to order the photo with a computer to get a printed version, as is the default behavior.

Instant cameras: With Classic Polaroid and Instax cameras, the photo will be added to your sim's inventory right away. They require the instant photo mesh to work (included with the download). The photos taken with instant cameras can't be ordered with computers.

By default, the instant photo has a clear vignette overlay. You can add a tint to it by clicking the mesh and choosing either blue, green, red, or orange tint from the pie menu. It's also possible to revert it back to being clear.

There are two versions of this mod: the 'cellphone' one makes the cellphone work as a camera and is meant to be used together with my phone default. The cellphone will get picked for taking pictures only if the sim doesn't have another camera in their inventory.

The 'no cellphone' version has all the other functionality but the default cellphone won't work as a camera with it.

Files are compressed. Requires Bon Voyage and maybe University too. A collection file for the custom cameras is included; you can keep only those that you like, the mod works with or without them.

🚨🚨 Conflicts with the custom smartphone camera mod by @jellymeduza. Meduza has shared compatible versions in that same post.

This mod conflicts and isn't compatible with no bad photos mod by @picknmixsims.

There's also a conflict with the snowproof accessories mod by guirnaldas. Both mods will work if you make the camera overhaul load after the snowproof accessories.

This mod is compatible with camera default replacements that don't include an OBJD override, for example this one by @vegan-kaktus or this one by me works perfectly.

Update (12.5.2024): The default camera and all custom cameras are now sellable in OFB businesses. The cameras will also appear in the correct position when moved away from a sim's inventory.

Update (24.4.2024): Visiting sims can now be asked to take a picture for you if they have a non-instant camera in their inventory.

Update (29.1.2024): Taking pictures with instant cameras now fulfills the want to take a picture just as the normal cameras do. Sims using instant cameras also correctly gain art enthusiasm from it.

Update (28.1.2024): Both the default and the custom cameras won't get covered in snow anymore if used outdoors when there's snow on the ground.
