hello scholars, can you help me remember a quote? unless i hallucinated it, there was a noel quote that was like "i love music more than mam, even more than liam" or "i'd pick music over mam or even liam," something along those lines? the music part is a guess, i just remember being flabbergasted by the hierarchy in noel's head but can't remember the quote itself...

it's from a 1994 interview (titled, if you can believe it, "never mind the bollocks, here's the sex beatles"):

Noel explains the hooligan element thus: ​“The lads get bored, get drunk, start brawling and do the rooms. I go off and write music, because nothing else matters to me.” Without a hint of humour or irony he adds: ​“If the Devil popped up now and said, ​‘It’s a choice. Music or relationships’ – be it mother, girlfriends, even Liam, I’d sign on the dotted line.”

according to paolo hewitt's book getting high, liam reacted thus:

When Liam read that, blood shot to his head. Dickhead, don't ever insult Mam like that again. It was a kind of blasphemy.

there's also this interaction, supposedly from a july 1994 Select magazine article/interview:

since hewitt (a dullard and a poor writer) attributes the initial quote to a Guitar magazine interview (while the article itself is clearly from The Face magazine), it's hard to tell if this was all the same incident or if noel was just really on a tear of offering to trade peggy to satan that year.

Audiobooks are absolutely not the same cognitive or experiential process as reading text and I worry about training/retaining the ability to parse written words in sentences more complex and media more long-form than blog posts. However. Since I made the choice in 2024 to save Reading As Such for academic texts (with very powerful reading glasses) and listen to novels exclusively as audiobooks (provided they're available). My eye strain migraines have improved so much it's unbelievable, and I have listened to more novels in one year than I read in the last 4 years combined. buddy cole documentary trailer editing update!

printed more quotes/clip descriptions and taped them to color-coded notecards for my irl paper-edit timeline!! also reprinted all the quotes i already picked out bc i wanted to change the formatting. and i just realized from looking at this photo that i accidentally put one of the quotes on the wrong color card FUCK

(it's the one attributed to mark mckinney that just says [The Buddy Cole Song], I wrote it that way bc I didn't want to type out every lyric he improvised and I'd know just from the description, but I use that same brackets style to describe actions in the clips that won't be using their original audio so it got put in that pile. remind me to fix that tomorrow lmao)

also the huge green one is a one minute piece of conversation from a time when scott was considering retiring the buddy cole character (which he's done several times over the course of production, that's what mark's improv-song was about) and me trying to convince scott himself why the character is still relevant. i'm a little insecure about putting that long of a clip in a trailer bc most other clips are like 1-3 sentences but also this is gonna be an extended trailer-slash-reel so it'll be like 5-7 minutes in total, and that conversation will at times just play as audio with buddy performance clips over it (that's what the green notecard means) but idk let me know if you don't want to hear it lol

also if someone could teach me exactly how the youtube copyright system works that would be much appreciated

Everytime someone shares a zine I did three or four or even seven years ago I get so intensely happy and humbled. Todays Marian is widely different from the creator of those and has in part forgotten , and yet - they still get around! And touch people! The work truly transcends the author (reassuring, on the weird creative days! )
