John Kirby: Jazz's Chamber Innovator and Forgotten Virtuoso
Introduction: John Kirby, born John Kirk one hundred and sixteen years ago today on December 31, 1908, in Winchester, Virginia, was an influential yet often underappreciated figure in jazz history. His innovative approach to music bridged classical and jazz sensibilities, creating a unique genre often referred to as “chamber jazz.” Kirby’s career as a bassist and bandleader not only helped shape…

────── Behind The Runway ⋆。𖦹°‧★
────────────────────── 𝜗𝜚 ࣪˖ ✧˚.⋆ 12 Adrien
Tumblr media
Marinette had been waiting at Café Procope for about fifteen minutes. Her friends were seated somewhere close enough to ensure she’d be safe, but far enough to avoid eavesdropping.
She had arrived early—shocker—and now found herself fidgeting with the tablecloth as she waited. Is this even worth it? What if he doesn’t come? What if this is a set-up? She was so lost in thought that she didn’t notice someone sit across from her.
“Marinette?” a voice called hesitantly.
She didn’t react until a warm hand gently covered hers. The unexpected touch snapped her out of her thoughts, and she looked up.
Blonde hair. Green eyes. For a split second, relief washed over her. Then she noticed—his hair was a shade too light, his eyes the wrong hue of green.
Her heart sank.
This wasn’t Felix.
Marinette immediately pulled her hand back, placing it in her lap. “Adrien,” she greeted coolly before waving a waitress over. She wasn’t about to do this on an empty stomach.
She ordered a strawberry tart and red fruit tea. Adrien asked for an assortment of macarons and hot chocolate.
Silence settled between them, thick and awkward. When their orders finally arrived, Marinette picked up her spoon, ready to eat—until Adrien spoke.
“I’m sorry, Marinette.” His voice was barely above a whisper, his gaze fixed on the drink in front of him.
She set her spoon down with a soft clink. “Sorry for what, Adrien?”
He tensed. The way she said his name—so detached, so distant—was a stark contrast to the warmth she used to show him.
“For everything,” he admitted. “For telling you to take the high road. For not standing up for you when I knew Lila was lying. For being a spineless coward.”
Marinette stayed silent. She knew Adrien hadn’t been raised to handle confrontation—his father had never taught him how. But that didn’t mean she could forgive him so easily.
She chose her next words carefully. “What do you want me to do about it?”
Adrien blinked. He hadn’t expected that.
The truth was, he had only recently realized just how much damage Lila had caused. He had caught her searching through Marinette’s bag one afternoon, mumbling under her breath about ruining the designer’s sketchbook when she didn’t find what she was looking for.
Adrien wasn’t stupid. Everyone in class knew how much designing meant to Marinette. The thought of Lila deliberately sabotaging her future made his stomach twist.
And he had done nothing to stop it.
He ran a shaky hand through his hair.
“I know you won’t forgive me right away,” he said, voice heavy with guilt. “Even I wouldn’t. But I’ll change. I’ll earn your trust properly—if you’ll let me.”
For so long, he had convinced himself that staying neutral was the right thing to do. That if he ignored the problem, it would disappear. But Marinette wasn’t a problem—she was a person. And he had left her to suffer alone.
Marinette sighed, watching him. The dark circles under his eyes, the way his shoulders sagged—he had already been punishing himself.
Felix's words from earlier on not forgiving anyone till she was ready rung through her head. She took a slow sip of her tea, gathering her thoughts. He hadn’t been the worst of them. He hadn’t actively participated in Lila’s games—he had just looked away, lost in his own little bubble.
That didn’t excuse him, but… she was tired.
“I forgive you, Adrien.”
His breath caught. “W-what?”
She didn’t look at him as she picked up her fork and took a bite of her tart. Her phone pinged beside her plate—a text from Chloé.
Adrien stared, still processing her words.
“You weren’t the worst of them,” she said simply. “And besides, I’d like to believe you didn’t know any better.”
She had spent too long being angry. Too long carrying the weight of other people’s choices. Holding onto resentment wouldn’t change the past, and frankly, she didn’t want to carry that burden anymore.
Letting go wasn’t for Adrien. It was for herself.
“You’ve punished yourself enough anyway,” she added, nodding slightly toward him.
Adrien looked down at his hands, then back at her. He hadn’t realized just how much the guilt had been weighing on him until now. Her forgiveness didn’t erase it, but it loosened the grip it had around his chest.
Marinette stood, smoothing out her skirt. Adrien quickly moved to stand too, his food barely touched.
“Relax,” she said with a small smile. “You said you’d earn my trust, remember?”
He swallowed hard and nodded.
“I’ll see you on Monday.” She placed her half of the bill on the table before turning to leave.
Adrien watched her go, slumping back into his seat.
For the first time in days, he let out a deep, shaky breath. Tears pricked at his eyes. She had forgiven him—of course he still had a long way to go but she forgave him. She was too kind for her own good.
The boy wiped the tears off his face before nibbling on one of his macaroons.

Hi guys! It's been a long time, hasn't it?
Well, I have played a bit since I came back, but nothing major... Vogoêl les Mouettes developped a problem while I was away, and TBH, I didn't want to bother. Tried Pikassos Island, but lacked Greecian inspiration, sadly. Did small stuff and it went away completely.
Then I watched @franglishetchocolat summer project, and she talked about pirates, which made me think of the 18th century... which is sorta my home, stylewise.
Love the music, the art, the architecture, the fashion... And I remembered I already had a work like that:
Funfet Valley
Tumblr media
it was a part of an old project, doing Sunset Valle from pre-history to today
Tumblr media
Project started before we had Island Paradise, and reworked a bit after
Tumblr media Tumblr media
without much success, one have to admit
Tumblr media
this is ridiculous
But we have soo much more CC these days, just gotta find it... if you guys got any links for Rococo stuff (not CAS), I would be grateful... enough to make your self sims live in the 18th century ... France.
Tumblr media
Because in Funfet Valley, we have café Procope (google it)

With a view on beautiful Parc Montgolfier
Tumblr media
I started small, with a small park, and yes there will be another just behind it... a doggie park, I think, to keep Picasso doggie happy.
Working on it,I'm begining to recall what is supposed togo where, which is a good sign.
More to come soon, hopefully!
