Kind of wild how Hubert (warns Byleth multiple times that he could kill her without any remorse, canonically committed patricide in cold blood, looks like a Great Value brand Count Dracula) gets a legitimately sweet S-rank, where he openly declares his love even though he really has no idea how to put his affection into words. He admits that all he knows how to do is protect her, and he worries that his inability to express his love outside of that will make him a poor husband. Then Byleth assures him that it won't be a problem, and he's genuinely relieved and grateful for her understanding, saying he wants to support her in the same way she supports him.
Meanwhile, Jeritza (rescuer of kittens, appreciator of baked goods, younger brother of possibly the sweetest character in the entire Three Houses cast, gets a redemption arc in almost every other one of his epilogues) just waxes poetic about how much he still wants to kill Byleth, and how it's a shame that they're allies right now, and he's looking forward to the day when the fight is over so they can properly murder each other just like he's always dreamed. And then his S-rank epilogue low-key confirms that he and Byleth did, in fact, just straight-up kill each other after the war.
Gotta say, I didn't see either one of those things coming.

it annoys me so much when people say "edel had no other choice" as a thought terminating cliche. like even IF that were true, how one goes about that is still a characterful thing that gets minimized to "so it's not her fault stop being mean to her she just did what she had to". like. does she feel regret? does she apologize ot the people she's hurting? does she view it as righteous? who knows, becuase the argument is only ever used as a "stop being mean to my wife" line and not a character thing.
Yeah cuz like. Okay so let's say that starting the war was absolutely not her fault because xyz circumstance robs her of any substantial say in the matter.
What about using Demonic Beasts? What about her siccing her army and different set of Demonic Beasts on her own "friends" so that she could make more Demonic Beasts? Stealing from a gravesite to do so? What about starving her citizens, and being the only lord TO starve her citizens in their route? What about killing Judith as she ran away from her? Hell, invading the neutral Alliance in the first place? What about helping the Death Knight get away with stealing Flayn if 25 turns pass? What about saying nothing about Kronya even after Solon reveals himself at Remire? What about giving Jeritza a hunting ground to enable his bloodlust and not, like. Professional help?
She couldn't even mention a means she's working on to do anything about her starving citizens? Did she have to blame Claude (and everyone really) not immediately bowing down to her as to why the Alliance was violently invaded, and not her violent invasion being the reason it was violently invaded? What about persecuting Church followers who didn't do shit to anybody, did she have to do that shit too? Never freeing Brigid and instead stationing her men there on her route and sending Hubert there off of it; that was forced on her too? Taking Byleth's credit during the siege instead of letting them get the recognition they deserve - what, just, fate forcing her hand once again?
Are we really going to sit here and say because the war "needed" to happen, Edelgard was forced to do literally all of that (and more)? That because Edelgard was "forced" into war, she was also forced to do literally anything involving the war?
Like you said, her stans saying that she "had no choice" but to start the war does nothing to say anything about her as a character, because they also reject everything else she did regarding her war as having anything to do with her agency. They treat "she had to do this" as a means to protect the moral purity they want her character to have so they don't feel bad rooting for the villain to win, not as something that goes on to mean anything for her.
And I'm not asking for her to save literally every single person ever from any harm ever to prove her care about not going to war exists, I'm asking for LITERALLY ANYTHING. Because she quite literally does nothing to mitigate harm from anybody in this war, and regardless of whether the war was "forced" on her hands or not she absolutely could have done something to make sure her people suffered as minimally as possible. Which damn sure isn't seen in her hiding behind them as she sits in her throne room (a thing Dimitri and Claude absolutely don't do, with either similar or less time to prepare to protect their people). Or starves them, a thing uniquely said about her route (as literally all the other ones have the army go with lacking food supplies). Or allows Thales to conscript them under threat of death. Or openly saying that she thinks weak people would only stay weak after her war because they're "too used to relying on others" - because when her war takes everything away from people, it'd be THEIR fault for staying weak, which is *chef's kiss* so kind and caring amiright guys. Definitely shows off that she understands and/or cares about the ramifications of her war onto the people, and not that she has her head shoved squarely and firmly up her ass.
What does it meaningfully mean for the war to not be Edelgard's fault, if she's not going to do anything to indicate that she cares about other people enough to want to not force war on them? Hell, when she very explicitly shows she doesn't particularly care about how it'd affect people, if it affects people in a way that doesn't align with her beliefs? When she very explicitly says she's perfectly willing to sacrifice her people for her higher cause, and then goes on to sacrifice her people for her higher cause? If she doesn't even try to help others because the war was forced on her, that at best makes her one of powerless victim or uncaring defeatist - neither of which fit the resolute caring ambitious revolutionary they paradoxically also want her to be. So, again, what does it actually mean for the war to not be a result of Edelgard's agency, if she regardless of that still shows callous indifference to those harmed by the war?
It's a question no one who posits this about Edelgard is able to answer, because as you said, it's not meant to be anything more than a shallow defense against her own actions. Letting Edelgard have even the slightest smidgen of agency in her own actions means accepting that she is a massive fucking penis. A huge gaping asshole. A plain ol' jerk. Which again! Is INFINITELY more engaging to watch than this marionette strung along by literally everyone around her into "looking" like a villain, only being her "true" self when she's feeding kittens and dwawing her cwush and burping her googoo gaga babyass girlfriend they also tend to make (f!)Byleth over her shoulder

Round 3, Match 1
The Reverend Daughter Harrowhark Nonagesimus (The Locked Tomb) vs Mercedes von Martritz (Fire Emblem: Three Houses)
Tumblr media Tumblr media
Harrow is a nun of the Ninth House. She's been described as a space goth necromancer fantasy sci-fi bone nun.
Mercedes von Martritz is a nun of the Church of Saint Seiros at Garreg Mach Monastery.
The Reverend Daughter Harrowhark Nonagesimus
She’s great. She has so many fucking problems. She’s been running the goth space convent since she was 10. She’s puppeting her dead parents around. She doesn’t like tastes. She is extremely passionate about bones. She’s locked in a twisted bond of love and violence and devotion and sacrifice with her childhood best enemy. She lobotomized herself to preserve the best enemy’s soul. She’s been in love with the corpse of the Devil all her life. She goes around in bone jewelry and skull face paint. She’s a sad wet cat who was born in a cardboard box all alone, etc. She chopped another woman’s arm off and regrew a skeleton arm, in a sexual way. She has awkward little fireside chats with God where he makes millennia-old meme references at her and she does not drink the proffered tea. She saw God make a your mom joke and it “destroyed some cavern of her reverence”. She’s even gay. She’s everything.
Mercedes von Martritz
Mercedes was born to the fallen House Martritz and bore a minor Crest of Lamine, a special type of blood that gave it's bearer enhanced abilities. Her father died shortly afterwards and Mercedes' mother remarried into House Bartels, giving birth to Emile von Bartels, who also had a minor Crest of Lamine. Mercie's stepfather was uncaring and only married for his new wife's crest which led to said wife's departure from House Bartels. She ran away with only her eldest child to the Kingdom, where Mercedes would really start her own life as a student of Fhirdiad's Royal School of Sorcery. There, she befriended Annette Fantine Dominic and both girls would later attend Garreg Mach Monastery together. Mercedes is a kind soul with a soft voice and the ability to speak her mind. She's the eldest student attending the Officer's Accademy and takes it upon herself to be a shoulder of support for her classmates, no matter their origin. When the timeskip hits, Mercie returns in a nun's garb and expresses reinforced belief in the Church, even in the route where you fight against the Archbishop. I find her extremely fascinating due to her sub-plot with her brother, Emile. Mercedes held deep regret for leaving her brother behind in House Bartels despite not knowing that he had chosen to stay behind to protect her and her mother. Emile later returns as The Death Knight, a general under the Flame Emperor's command and his story with his sister changes depending on the player's route. Should the player oppose the Flame Emperor, Emile and Mercie can reunite briefly, with The Death Knight granting Mercedes a relic that can only be operated by their Crest before dying in her arms in a later battle, happy to be with his family once again. In the event that the player does side with the Flame Emperor, The Death Knight becomes playable alongside his sister, revealing thatthe years spent in House Bartels changed him, giving rise to two distinct personalities: Jeritza von Hyrm and The Death Knight. Jeritza had been a teacher at Garreg Mach, serving as a spy to the Flame Emperor while The Death Knight quelled his bloodlust under the Flame Emperor's orders. In this route, Mercedes reaches out to both Jeritza and The Death Knight as their elder sister and the exchanges they have are some of my favorites in Fire Emblem history. Also Mercie is bisexual and both M!player and F!player can marry her in the end, regardless of route. Love her for that

Thinking about it, Felix comes across as a deliberate parallel to Byleth.
I mean, there’s the obvious. Both get shields as the result of their paralogues, both of their final classes are sword users who also use magic, and then there’s the mercenary thing. Byleth starts as a merc and, if they follow Flower, they can return to being a merc whereas Felix ends up as a merc in every route bar his home route.
This is what really got me though. With Byleth, going Flower is framed as their path of thorns as that’s what the scene joining Edelgard is called. That Byleth rejected their duty, walking a path of sin (specifically sloth) instead, and this leads to Byleth losing their powers and possibly returning to being a mercenary depending on their partner. But then look at Felix’s endings outside of Moon. He abandons his duties as a noble of the Kingdom, abandons it, and ends the route abandoning his own noble title.
It gets worse in the events of Flower, as he’s betrayed and attacking his own homeland. His own family, and after his father’s death he realizes he’s become the boar he always accused Dimitri of being. As a result, he leaves to being a mercenary and ends up dying a bloody death somewhere. This would also tie into Byleth, who does betray and attack their family in Flower, a route called the Animal Path in Japanese. Hell, Byleth was born at Garreg Mach and ends up leading the attack on it. The Byleth/Jeritza ending expands and clarifies Byleth’s solo ending, showing that the bit about maintaining the use of their relic was imperial bullshit, that the “true peace” fights for is simply removing the Agarthans and Byleth doesn’t have any goal in life beyond that. The relationship is one that is supposed to lead to Byleth and Jeritza eventually fighting to the death, Jeritza hoping Byleth can kill the Death Knight, and both of them disappearing.
It gets worse still when you remember that in Flower, Sylvain mentions that the empire was involved in Duscur and that happens when Sylvain is recruited. Felix probably realizes that he’s aligned with the people who orchestrated the event that led to his brother’s death. Meanwhile, Byleth has to save the Agarthans in Hubert’s paralogue, making it clear they know that the Empire is working with the folks who killed their father but Edelgard is trying to keep them in the dark.
But the thing is, remember why Felix begins to crack in the routes where he simply bailed on his country to join Byleth’s forces. Felix didn’t know Dimitri was still alive, that was only revealed after Felix left. But then Dimitri goes and dies on him, leaving Felix wondering if he could have done anything to save his friend. It’s this that leads to him ditching his inheritance. And that just feels so Houses, where in the original Japanese Dimitri is called the Savior King because he supports the people in need, whereas King/Queen Byleth is also said to bring the people salvation in the Japanese for the same thing. And in Byleth’s case, any route other than Flower is them completing their duty as it’s not them walking the path of thorns.
SS, VW and especially Flower end up being Felix’s path of thorns, where Felix rejects their duty and can end up destroying him. And all of this is supposed to get people to realize the same is true about Byleth and their duty to protect Fodlan from those who would harm it.

Do you ever think about Jeritza von Hyrm? About how his circumstances forced him to be the monster he became? About how he gave up everything including his identity and security to protect the people he loved most? About how he was thrust into an important position in the Empire before he was even an adult? About how his favorite food is peach sorbet? About how he was morphed into a weapon at the cost of his personhood? About how he only regains a little bit of said personhood when he's given the space to not be the death knight? About how he's so underappreciated? I do.

Since the ramble already started…
I think Byleth and Jeritza can actually have a healthier relationship than most of my other pairings. Despite the fact that neither of them can be defined as healthy in the proper sense, they are both intelligent and responsible adults, and they don’t avoid problems. Maybe they don’t talk much but they are willing to communicate, with clearness and efficiency so there will hardly be any misunderstandings. More importantly, they were only enemies due to different sidings (which was just work) and there isn’t any resentment between them, nor conflict of interest, nor divided values, nor taboo or complexity of any sort… they are completely free to love each other. And their love is simple, Jeritza doesn’t even understand it at first, only acting by following his instincts (the most primitive and sincere feelings) and he is not afraid or shy to explore it: the way he curiously admits “feeling oddly” when looking at Byleth in their B-support or the way he carefully pronounces love in their S-support with such wonder… or the way he shamelessly describes his imaginations in their A-support right in front of Byleth looking about to come in his pants (honestly it’s so funny when Byleth be like are you done…?) So, okay, his understanding of those feelings is a bit chaotic (I seriously suspect he mixes sexual needs with the urge to kill) but he’s got the best professor to guide him, and judging by the way he speaks he seems to be really drawn to romance and devotion (tbh he speaks like a vampire prince in some YA novel). Despite the other things they go through, the way they treat each other can be so sweet, so pure. The only problem is death knight and his incessant urge to fight Byleth to death, but Byleth is more than capable to protect themselves and there is no need to run from it. I’m not convinced that they can get rid of that danger for good but I believe they can live in some kind of balance with it: they can spar, or go haunting, or take a mercenary job, or just do some scenes in the bedroom… and life will go on just fine. There is nothing stopping them.

I’m surprised there isn’t some spicy Jeritza content with a catgirl reader. Poor man loves cats but they run away from him due to his murderous/Death Knight aura according to supports. T^T Let him have his cat fix and love.
OKAY I need a headcanon break and no one ever asks me to write for Jeritza so it's time for me to treat myself lol
For reference, I've done catgirl!Reader posts for Seteth and Felix as well, if y'all wanna check those out :3
Jeritza (FE3H) x Catgirl!Reader
SFW & NSFW Headcanons
(NSFW under the cut - 18+)
Okay so first off, I don't often write about Jeritza pining, but what else could I possibly call it when he's just fixated on those cute, soft little triangular ears of yours and every time he sees you he can feel his hands itching to reach out and touch them? It's not even primarily a sexual urge, he just finds that the same corner of his heart that somehow opens for the monastery cats simply aches for the chance to stroke your tail or scratch your ears- and it's going to be agony for him to restrain himself until you two finally figure out this attraction between you. In a bizarre way, it's like an equal and opposite urge to his bouts of bloodlust.
Once you're actually together, he finds it very comforting that you have so many clear tells about your mood and responses to things. He appreciates cats' body language, the way they tense or how their eyes react, and so on- non-verbal communication that he finds less cumbersome and easier to parse. Seeing your tail flick around with contentment as you start to settle into his arms, or feeling the subtle rumble of your purring against his chest, things like this warm him through in a way he never thought he'd feel (and that he struggles to express- good thing your sensitive ears can hear his heart fluttering).
He feels incredibly conflicted knowing that you can so often smell the scent of blood and carnage lingering on him. On the one hand, there is an odd comfort to knowing that you come to him willingly even knowing what his scent means. On the other hand, he feels a sort of morose horror at the fact that being near him subjects you to such a thing so frequently.
As someone who deeply appreciates his own favorite foods and flavors, he takes immense joy in feeding you your favorite snacks, and it's one of the rare times when you'll actually catch him smiling a bit. He just can't help it- seeing your ears perk up and your nose twitch eagerly at the scent, it makes him long to protect you and be able to provide for you.
NSFW vvv
Jeritza is weak for seeing you in a cute little collar, or with precious little bows on your ears or accenting your tail. Anything that emphasizes how absolutely adorable he already finds you has his pulse racing immediately and his cock absolutely rock hard. The intensity in his gaze upon seeing you waiting on his bed like this is almost frightening at first- but you quickly realize that this is about carnal lust rather than bloodlust, and he simply has to touch you and please you so he can watch you squirm around and mew with pleasure while looking so dearly adorable just for him.
One might not expect it, but he's actually a fairly gentle and careful lover by nature. He has very little sexual experience prior to you, and he's well aware that indulging his more aggressive instincts might cause the Death Knight to emerge while you're vulnerable in his arms, and he could never forgive himself for such a lapse. So instead, he silently observes you like a man hypnotized as he carefully tests your pleasure- fingers firm but steady between your thighs, lips warm around your nipples while his tongue lightly flicks and circles them -and he's relieved that he can use the twitching of your ears or the swish of your tail to tell when something feels exceptionally good for you.
Once he's actually inside of you (and Goddess, his cock is thick and powerful as one would expect from such an overwhelming figure), it's the sounds you make that drive him absolutely mad. Without a word, he'll bring a hand to your cheek and make you look him in the eyes while you mew and whine with your face flushed and your ears lowered, and you feel his entire length throb inside of you with each helpless little "nyaahhh~~"
Because he loves your voice and expressions so much, it's not often he fucks you from behind, but when he does, he'll scratch and stroke the base of your tail, entranced by how its curve emphasizes the swell of your ass as he pushes deep inside of you. The way your spine arches when he plays with your tail is so charming, he can't help thrusting deeper and harder than usual, only barely restraining himself enough to avoid hurting you.
Of course, secretly his favorite part of fucking his precious catgirl is when he's satisfied you utterly and completely, and you curl up against him with your head on his chest as you both come down from the pleasure and exertion. In general, he's a big cuddler post-sex, though you'll never hear him say it outright. He rarely feels anything near the contentment he experiences when you nuzzle against him and purr happily with his cum coating your inner thighs.

Do you believe you have a type of character you gravitate towards writing? It's hard to say these days. I like dynamic characters because I've hit too many walls over the years where threads stagnate because neither me nor my partner are able to move the scene in a meaningful way. I'm here to have fun, not slog through threads just to get the point at the end, so writing lively, aggressive, or bratty characters has allowed me to always have an emergency button on hand. Outside of that, I enjoy the concept of leadership in a guardian sense. What it means to protect a community, etc. I don't like writing kings and queens, so I prefer characters who have this on a smaller scale. Perne, for example, who leads the Dandelion Gang. I've also joked with Rai that I tend to pick up men who are subservient to some sort of powerful woman. With that said, lately I've been feeling the itch to return to my roots as a melancholy knight writer.
Do you have characters or types of characters you don’t think you can handle writing, but wish you could? I think I could give anything a good run if I tried
What kind of scenes, situations etc do you believe you enjoy writing the most? Sceeeeenes. I love describing vistas. I love placing characters in a fleshed out world. No one exists in a vacuum, and how characters arrange themselves and interact with the environment around them is just as important as what they're doing and thinking.
Do you have any scenario in mind for your muse(s) that gets you thinking “man I hope I get to write this one day”? Not at the moment. For Griss, I always take scenarios as they come, and that usually evolves into new and unexpected things
Favorite TOA-related memories? You!
Present or past tense? Past tense. But I'll match my partner
Normal size text, small text, no preference? No preference
Got any potential muse delusions to share? 😉 I don't think anything will come of it anytime soon, but lately Jeritza and Zeke have been stirring in the mind palace

Ashen Wolves + Jeritza Modern AU HCs
Ashen Wolves in my fic (read it, it's funny) I couldn't fit everything in putting it all here
Yuri
Works at the bar Abyss (which has a secret BDSM dungeon in the basement)
Lives in a punk house with the others and unfortunately (but unsurprisingly) the only one responsible enough to pay rent
Everything else is a gamble. Will they have electricity this month? Water? Eh ¯\_(ツ)_/¯
“Hey wanna go out? I know a place” (takes them to the health food dumpster that tosses out perfectly good packaged food)
“Am I scared of twink death? Please.”
SWer out of necessity, sends most of the money he makes back to his disabled mom
(TW human trafficking mention) Yuri's father met his mother, a young poor vietnamese women. He promise he'd take care of her give her a better life in UK. Yeah right. Due to everything, she's extremely traumatized and unable to work.
Because of his and his mother's trauma, extremely protective of the most vulnerable in his community(women, children, immigrants, pwMI)
Balthus
New Jersey represent 🦅🦅🦅🦅🦅
Italian-American. Always correcting everyone on how to actually pronounce Italian words
Got into a tinyyyy minor disagreement with the mob and, in short, he owes them like gazillion dollars
Half-ass faked his death (so much party city fake blood) and is hiding out in Europe
He wears a fake mustache and puts on a fake Italian accent whenever he's in public
Sells drugs to the Garreg Mach kids.
“Balthus get a job.” “I have a business” “Isn’t that why you had to leave the States?”
The only one not to have a room. He sleeps on the couch (he had an air mattress. Had.)
Constance
In the late 1800s/early 1900s, her ancestor founded Nuvelle Inc., a pharmaceutical and biotechnology corporation
Her great-grandfather publically sided with the Republicans in the Spanish Civil War since he was in support of Basque Independence. Later assassinated by the fascist government in retaliation
Later, Constance's grandfather got backstabbed by his board and fired from the company
Her family was in denial about the whole thing and desperate to keep up with the appearance of wealth and continue to spend a lot of money. By the time Constance was born, they was in loads of debt
(tw suicide mention) Lost her mother in an accident. Then her father committed suicide, leaving Constance an orphan by 13.
Used the little inheritance she had to go to Garreg Mach and pretend everything was ok. Would lie anytime someone asked about her home life. Was forced to drop out at 16 because she ran out of money. To embarrassed to ask for help, she lied to everyone and told them she was going to study in the states
Yuri found her sleeping on a bench and took her in. Offered to buy her a ticket home until she finally admitted she lost everything and has no home to go back to
Dumpster drives at Garreg Mach for designer clothes. Ridiculous how much these rich kids (Hilda) toss out
Hapi
Romani :)
Ran away from home when she was a teenager to “see the world.” Unfortunately, got taken in by some questionable people
Cordelia found her and just felt so bad for her :( “oh no, a poor brown girl in need of help.” Offered to take her in and promised to help her get back home
Bullshit.
Finally able to run away and flee the country. She meets Balthus and Yuri because they were dumpster diving at the same spot.
She and Constance have this thing of getting naked and howling at the full moon each month
Emile Jeritza
Born into a religious cult in good old USA 🇺🇸 His father was the cult leader and had multiple wives.
His mother had a child from a previous relationship. Despite having numerous half-siblings, Emile was only close to Mercedes. She was the only one who didn’t scold him for crying and having “feminine” feelings after all
One day, his mother and beloved sister disappear. He never even got to say goodbye..
unbeknownst to him, when his mother and sister left they were fleeing for their lives. His mother immediately started to fight for custody of him but she was not an American citizen (while Emile and dad were) and she was trying to take him back to Europe
When Emile found out about what his father did, he…
On the run from the FBI :)
The wolves know about his history but fuck his dad, mofo had it coming.
Yuri was standing behind Jeritza at the store when he saw Jeritza didn’t have enough money for food and cat food. He told the cash register to put the sandwich back. Yuri bought him the sandwich.

Scarlet Blaze Ch 9
Going to admit up front that I'm incredibly unmotivated to play this, but here we go.
STORY
Ok, so calling it now. Edelgard realizes she's a dumbass for thinking her single-supply line 10/10 army strategies couldn't smash all of Fodlan under her fist at the same time. So she's going back to look at options.
Given what the story's said so far, write it down - Edelgard will call a temp truce with Claude to focus on the Kingdom. Then she'll later plan on fighting the Alliance or doing exactly what she accuses Rhea of doing and ruling the Alliance with her soft-power.
Lysithea showing up? Does she if you don't recruit her? She doesn't really add anything to the scene.
Hubert thinks TWSITD wants to recruit Shez. He's getting interrogated by his own allies. Yikes. Deserved. That's what you get for fighting for the Imperialist land-hungry country.
Oh, no side-battles this time, like in GW in ch 8. Good. Means it'll go fast.
MAP/SIDE BATTLES
I keep remembering that Ingrid's dead in this storyline. If Sylvain or Felix are recruitable after this, that's straight-up character assassination.
Monica adds nothing of value. Her personality is literally just "Edelgard."
"Whatever part of me that was a knight is dead." - Ashe 😭 It's like CF!Felix all over again. He's just miserable. At least someone here gives a fuck about Ingrid.
Lysithea not trusting the Empire saga continues.
Least self-aware Imperial soldier "Why, what would happen if instead the Empire itself were suddenly invaded?"
Glad to see Mercedes expressing regrets.
Ok. Who wrote this? "I believe the Church of Serios ought to be protecting the people of Adrestia even now." 🤣
SHEZ & MONICA B SUPPORT
I'm sure this will be a deep, nuanced conversation. 👌
Monica is jealous of Shez because Edelgard is impressed with him. And is in denial.
She claims her relationship with Edelgard is deeper and Shez is just her servant.
Monica literally counts how many times Edelgard says people's names.
Much deep. Such character.
EDELGARD & BALTHUS B SUPPORT
Their final support.
Hubert told Edelgard Balthus was a womanizer. Hubert is really over the top in this game, lamo.
Edelgard isn't Balthus' type. Taste.
"I'm not compassionate - merely hopelessly committed to my ideals." - Some self-awareness this time. Nice.
"I've set out to unite all of Fodlan. I've started a war over it." - Edelgard.
I've seen people say the fandom say we shouldn't assume Hubert's thoughts are Edelgard, fair. But, like, it's right there. Out of her own mouth. Again.
She promises to protect anyone who serves her and her ideals. Tell that to Houses!Bernedetta or Houses!Monica.
In the end she invites him to a war council.
MANUELA & JERITZA B SUPPORT
Their final support.
Manuela notices that Jeritza is getting along better with the soldiers. He compliments her for being perceptive.
Manuela tells him that all he's missing is a smile. Not going to lie, I thought she was going to say "wife" instead.
She's really pulling a "you should smile." She and Claude need to get put in a corner for that. Albeit, Manuela is acting as his teacher, Claude's just being a sexist ass.
Jertiza smiles and seems to like Manuela, but not the way she wants.
HUBERT, PETRA, & JERITZA PARALOGUE
I see Lorenz is in two paralogues available here, so I guess characters sometimes are in more than one?
Anyways, plan is to use Hubert and/or Petra while Jeritza gets carried around.
I think I pissed Hubert off and made Jeritza happy.
They debate how tough the group is. Game is being somewhat self-aware by having people be like "move on already."
Soooo . . . this paralogue is about stopping the Church of Serios from assassinating Count Varley. Fuck that.
So in this paralogue we're rescuing an abusive father who's using faith as propaganda from the people trying to get rid of corrupt leaders in the location of the home we chased them out of on threat of murder if they return. Great.
Man, we had to fight Shamir and Catherine duo :(
Catherine asked if we were really willing to die for Varley. You know it's bad when Catherine is the smartest one in the room.
SHEZ & JERITZA B SUPPORT
Jeritza is looking for someone. He saw them and he ran away.
Shez described Jeritza as having a "murdery aura," accurate.
He says he'll never "capture her." Man, Shez, not sure it's a good idea to help him here.
He denies getting help.
LORENZ, FERDINAND, & CONSTANCE PARALOGUE
They're all having tea together and discussing it and trying to "out noble" each other and kissing each other's ass.
Constance feels inferior to their nobility. It's her sun thing, right?
Constance asks them which one is the most noble. Ferdinand says it's not noble to rank things like that. Constance calls them cowards essentially.
Now they're having a competition and asks Shez to judge. Shez suggests a training battle.
I hope Ferdinand gets a second paralogue that's most interesting than this. The dialogue wasn't even that funny outside the the first part.
It was an extremely mid plot, but fun to play with the time limit on killing all the generals.
If Ferdinand was MVP, does that mean he won?
Shez won. Is that automatic then? I jumped back and forth between Shez and Ferdinand the whole time.
Now they're going to have a tea party.
MAIN BATTLE/STORY
Monica is soooo boring.
People are trying to assassinate Edelgard. Hubert suspects Shez.
Shez, Monica, and Hubert rescue Edelgard from Shamir in a cut scene. Hubert also blasted at Shamir and Monica was in the way of his magic. Monica gets mad. No one told her what happened in Houses lamo.
Edelgard just stands there the whole time during the cut scene lol.
Oh, Edelgard's a green unit this time. Weird. Like it made sense for Dimitri but the moment we busted him out, he was playable. Edelgard isn't under threat of Cornelia or anything. Oh well, she's not one of my best units.
Oh, fuck, I can't use Hubert either. That actually does sting.
It's ok. I still have Ferdinand and Shez, Manuela is good too.
Persuade Shamir is an option. Makes sense I guess.
I have to protect Edelgard from getting routed. But what if I just . . . don't? Kinda weird how she's just . . . standing there. Like there's no in-game reason for why she's not fighting and just sitting around letting everyone else save her.
Edelgard left the throne room for like a minute and needed to get warp rescued back lamo.
OMG, Shamir only defects to save Catherine's life. 😭😭😭😭😭 Girlfriends.
I feel so much like the villain right now. After that stuff with Catherine and Shamir.
Ferdinand's father escaped. Hubert's taking it out on Ferdinand.
I think Hubert will use this escape as an excuse to kill Aegir.
They used a secret passage. Rhea probably helped build it lol.
Hubert is apologizing for suspecting Shez.
Wow, Shez only got promoted so Hubert could investigate him. So Edelgard only promoted a commoner because she suspected him of being a spy.
Yikes, poor Shez. Claude leaves him with no work (and not much pay) for years and Edelgard suspect Shez is with the enemy nearly the entire game.
I get to make Shez pissed off though. He's actually calling them out for being two-faced too.
"The great war Edelgard instigated" - narration. Claude, Dimitri - neither of you started this.
Part 1 Fin. Like with GW. I suspect AG will get that after Ch 9 too and GW is just one chapter ahead time-wise than the others right now.

Dropping by with random questions for any OCs you want to answer for! 😁
What does your OC admire about their partner(s)? What do they think is beautiful about them?
What is a fact about your OC that only one or two people know?
Do animals like them? Do they get on well with animals?
Do they have any specific memories of food/a meal?
Your OC is at a karaoke bar and they see a cute person across the bar who they want to impress, what song do they sing?
On an impulsive whim your OC dyes their hair and gets a whole new outfit, what do they now look like?
If your OC could travel to anywhere in their world, where would they go?
How does your OC celebrate their birthday?
Thank you for the ask! 🥺 I'll answer for Fae, Zoran and Étoile.
What does your OC admire about their partner(s)? What do they think is beautiful about them?
What Fae admires of Claude, Hilda, and Lorenz can be found here.
Fae admires Avery's hope. I think there a lot of times where Fae's bravery is admired, but that when they push past these harder challenges that to them it's like 'it's this or death,' and more desperate or resigned. Avery brings a lot of hope to helpless causes, always able to envision a future beyond a hardship, an understanding after a fallout.
Zoran admires Jeritza's determination, to see himself improve, to see the lives of those he cares about protected and thriving. Jeritza's learning all the time how not to throw away his dignity in the process, how not to approach every challenge and inconvenience with teeth or apathy, and it's his effort in this learning that invites Zoran's continued interest.
Étoile admires Astarion's consideration. As much as the fandom likes pointing out the illogical and unintuitive moments he has, of which there are many, Astarion does (as far as he is aware) try to conceal his vampirism for the sake of group cohesion and his own safety, which "inadvertently" means that he also takes an action that avoids public panic and outcry, even if it's "selfishly motivated" and a lot of his actions are like that, where the merit of them are incidental, and depending on his growth it starts to become conscious. Whether that consciousness is out of a desire to be kinder (leading to the leader or hero spawn paths) or out of a desire to manipulate (in an ascended ending), he's still thoughtful, in his way.
Going to limit myself to 3 random qualities of beauty for the sake of actually answering the section question because otherwise we will be here for three weeks.
Fae finds Claude's chin, jaw and eyebrows beautiful. Fae finds Hilda's lips, (fat) waist and eyes beautiful. Fae finds Lorenz's neck, hands and shoulders beautiful. Fae finds Avery's nose, arms and hips beautiful.
Zoran finds Jerita's cheekbones, collarbone and ass (sorry) beautiful.
Étoile finds Astarion's crows' feet, (vascular) arms and teeth beautiful (source one, source two).
What is a fact about your OC that only one or two people know?
Where Faedolyn is my Byleth / My Unit oc, literally no one (except Sothis???) knows about Divine Pulse. Fae would take this to their grave. But they would confide in their partners (more than two people) that they never expected to live longer than their mother's very short lifespan.
Where Faedolyn is a student oc, they would think that their affections are secrets (whether or not that's true)...
Very few people would know that Zoran (always a student) and Fae are so closely related to House Hevring, imagining it a more distant relation.
I think that while Zoran loves his sister, that only one person knows that they're a little resentful of how luck always seems to be on Fae's side and things are generally easier for them.
Have I made it clear that Étoile's lived in Baldur's Gate for decades but it's only the few adventurers they've travelled with for the sake of making a livelihood that know they worship Auril? So that's not that rare really. And otherwise that they grew up in a temple on a mountain in Impiltur is probably also not that unusual for people to know. But I do think the number of people that they and their mothers killed for the security of themselves and that mountain isn't even understood by the few people Étoile might tell about this, because they wouldn't be very explicit about it (Aranea's been living there for 650+ years). If one ever had cause to go to that frozen lake with ghosts on the wind and bones in the ice, then only if they were invited should they expect to live long enough to be one of the one or two people to have an idea of the extent of it.
Additionally, for something more personal, if anyone knows that Étoile feels destined to loneliness it would be fucking news to them fgdhdfghdfg. If Aranea died unexpectedly, Étoile would return to their temple, and for duty and grief, they wouldn't expect to leave again.
Do animals like them? Do they get on well with animals?
Fae and Zoran have experience with sheep, horses, mousers (cats) and working dogs before going to the monastery. They have a good understanding of how to read and interact well with most animals, which leads to animals liking them.
Étoile has it more complicated with the apparent frequency that Speak With Animals can be present in their universe. In their youth, I'm going to say that this didn't come up so much. They had various livestock, guard dog(s), and indoor cats (also mousers) cycle in and out of their time in their childhood home, but for this reason, they're more accustomed to dogs being an outdoor working pet. As a general statement and not a proposed scenario: I can see Scratch being disappointed / offended if, when there was an alternative, Étoile would expect him to sleep outside / in a barn with the other animals, especially while there were house cats (or ferrets) indoors. I think they are not always well-liked by animals.
Do they have any specific memories of food/a meal?
Two meals I associate with / remember for Faedolyn (and that they would remember depending on where in the timeline of their life they are fgdhdfghfgd) are the first feast after the battle for eagle and lion where Claude falls asleep at the table, and the meal at their wedding in my epilogue fic...
I don't yet have a meal to associate with Zoran, but between Jeritza's association with the Peach Sorbet in fe3h and one of their only little appearances in something I've "written" mentioning Mango Sherbert, I do associate Zoran with desserts / ice creams.
I've said before that when Étoile is prompted to picture their happy place it is a memory of a meal! (:
Étoile pictures themself as a child. They are ten years old. They have just finished fasting for the first time as part of a ritual for Auril / Azura. They are breaking their fast with a feast. It is one of the few times pilgrims crowd the shrine of Azura / Auril with different offerings. Their mother - Aranea - tells them to stay humble and doesn't advertise their accomplishment, but Étoile can tell they've done well; and the food is rich and sweet. And their mother - Wylla - is there - the old wolf - making sure Étoile tries every foreign spice that has made its way to the mountains. She's trying to find their favorite. Something to remember for a later celebration. Étoile cared for and surrounded by people who either understand them or are in turn misunderstood so that there is comfort in the crowd.
Your OC is at a karaoke bar and they see a cute person across the bar who they want to impress, what song do they sing?
Faedolyn sings Alicia Keys' No One. Their vibrato would be different but I think they could do it.
youtube
Zoran sings Queen's A Kind of Magic, especially if she's in drag.
youtube
Étoile would not want to sing but would recognize that you can't impress someone at a karaoke bar by not-singing, and so to sing something to at least move into conversation, they would sing marcy playground's sex & candy.
youtube
On an impulsive whim your OC dyes their hair and gets a whole new outfit, what do they now look like?
Faedolyn will dye their hair black and get a new outfit that looks like one of Ivy Soul Calibur's more modest looks:
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
Zoran will bleach his hair blond and get something like Solas' armor:
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
Étoile will dye their hair pink/purple and for you / for them I'll select both an armour and an outfit; so something like Haldir's armor (Haldir my beloved) and something inspired by these two pins in their board (probably sans scarf in baldur's gate's climate):
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
If your OC could travel to anywhere in their world, where would they go?
Faedolyn is always travelling so from wherever they are to wherever they're not; home in the Oghma mountains, home in Garreg Mach, home in Riegan, home in Almyra, visiting in Gloucester, visiting in Enbarr, visiting in Nuvelle, visiting in Duscur, etc.
Zoran is largely settled in Nuvelle at some point, and so if he could travel anywhere, I think he'd pick somewhere further away, see what happens in Dagda.
Étoile would probably be interested in seeing Icewind Dale (the site of Auril's death, the site of where she was focusing her power, and the nearby wastes where her chosen was last seen), the High Forest (the manner of ancient magical energy is more interesting than whatever the high elves might have preserved in Silverymoon to them), and Rashemen (I imagine they were concerned / prejudiced against travelling so close to Thay, but that Minsc's descriptions of a faraway home would have interested them — especially as their own cold homeland is between Baldur's Gate and Rashemen). Étoile would also like to see home again, especially after the traumatic experience that bg3 was.
How does your OC celebrate their birthday?
Faedolyn is overrun with attention and their schedule, and their loved ones are fighting for twenty minutes in their day.
Zoran celebrates his birthday by hiding where maybe only four people know to find him, making an appearance for dinner and cake if there's any to be had.
I forget where I originally said this but I quoted myself on discord about Étoile's birthday before:
i don't think étoile would have expectations for birthday gifts? i think almost anything would delight them, to have been thought of, there are obvious exceptions for things that don't take them into consideration at all (gifts that imply another deity, a shaving kit, etc.) if they had a birthday during the course of the adventure and it was somewhere with a fair number of supplies (the grove, baldur's gate) they might buy themself a little cupcake or even just a handful of berries or something; and then might confide that it was their birthday with astarion (who i expect would tease) or tav or shadowheart (and étoile would share their little treat and be like, "does shar forbid birthdays? if you never get your memories back then you can share this one with me, or at least, maybe, you could think of me on this day") (and specifically not karlach, she'd make a fuss)

Round 1, Match 17
Zhou Zhiruo (Heaven Sword and Dragon Sabre) vs Mercedes von Martritz (Fire Emblem: Three Houses)
Tumblr media Tumblr media
Zhou Zhiruo is a Buddhist nun of the Emei sect.
Mercedes von Martritz is a nun of the Church of Saint Seiros at Garreg Mach Monastery.
Zhou Zhiruo
Arguably the central antagonist of HSDS, an epic novel adapted into multiple 40+ episode TV series. Most powerful female character in HSDS. Using Nine Yin White Bone Claw at a tournament for the position of leader of the Wulin she defeated every other martial artist who came and was crowned leader of the martial arts world.

One of the interesting things about the Edelgard/Light comparison is the idea of their legacies. In Death Note, Light says that he’ll only be remembered as a hero if he wins and sure enough seven years after his defeat Kira is seen as one of history’s greatest villains. People can make similar claims about Edelgard, that if she wins history will remember her as the good guy because it was written by her.
But then you look at endings in Flower that seem to point in a different direction. Hubert is remembered, according to his Japanese endings, as a very immoral man while Jeritza is remembered as the blood-stained demon. For all the talk of freedom, Byleth’s ending marks Edelgard being remembered as a hegemonic ruler meaning she dominated the continent, they are remebered for helping her rise to power rather than walking their own path/protecting order/ruling over a new kingdom of Fodlan, while Edelgard’s own title has her remembered as the Flame Emperor rather than the people giving her a heroic moniker like they do Dimitri or Claude. There’s the endings that show she uses Agarthan technology and magic to maintain her rule, she bans plays without ever seeing them, she “frees” Brigid provided they follow her terms and conditions (with Petra eventually moving back to Fodlan as “a sign of friendship”), she uses a restored church to push her ideals upon the people, and Rhea is remembered in the Japanese text as a divine being that Edelgard overthrew while Edelgard is trying to make people believe the Goddess supported her. But then history also makes it clear people know about the Agarthans and Hubert’s actions in the future, and this is part of why Hubert is remembered as immoral.
History seems to remember an Edelgard who won worse, whereas the other routes would make her out to be a victim of Agartha’s machinations. Even in Moon, because Dimitri is planning to investigate exactly what happened and who was really behind the war.
Considering that Houses was based on Rot3K, it fits with Cao Cao. Cao Cao, after the Three Kingdoms period, as a hero while Liu Bei was a rebel who held back the reunification of the empire. But since then, he’s became a villain because of how immoral and brutal he was, whereas Liu Bei became seen as a symbol of virtue. For the record, the Three Kingdoms war is one of the bloodiest conflicts in human history. 30-40 million people died due to fighting, famine and plagues attributed to the war and that made up 20% of the entire world’s population at the time. Even to this day, it is second to the Mongol invasions and WWII in it’s death count, but when it comes to that 20% of the world dying it takes the gold. And threw that all, Cao Cao is remembered as the villain who stole power from the Hans. Meritocracy be damned, this was a guy who would massacre entire cities even if they surrendered before the siege began so long as Cao Cao had them encircled. Rot3K tones that down, making him only massacre a city once, but he’s still the villain.

Thank you for the question @alienducky!! You know most of my WIPs already but I'll answer anyway ^_^
The fic I'm currently working on most actively is The Boundaries of Magic, which is a sequel in my FE3H series in which Constance von Nuvelle delves into dark magic ✨I only have two chapters left to write.
But I also have some other WIPs that I'm not actively working on right now:
A mini-sequel to Boundaries which will be approximately 6-8 chapters long and star an OC of mine
A FE3H Ashen Wolves modern AU in which the gang become uni roommates and Constance is an app developer looking for her big break
An MtG fanfic about mage students Killian and Dina and how they grow close while struggling with issues regarding family and expectations of others
A fairly short and simple Great Ace Attorney fanfic which follows Ashley Graydon as he grows up in, and gets out of, the slums of London
An interactive novel/game (original work) about personal identity, with mystery aspects
And then there are some loose ideas/half-started fics which have probably been abandoned at this point and can't really be called WIPs but that I'll mention anyway:
A FE3H YuriCoco enemies to lovers FWB fic which has three whole chapters written but is probably way too OOC. But I might use some bits and pieces to build something new from it eventually
A FE3H YuriCoco pirate fic inspired by a comment you made on Boundaries (^_^)
A really really dark FE3H Sylvain fic that I started in 2020 but that will probably never see the light of day
A FE3H crack fic in which Constance is convinced Hapi is the Savage Mockingbird
A FE3H fic that explores Constance's and Jeritza's dissociative similarities
A handful of MTAP fics, most of them about Arlo, but then one which was once a very ambitious political intrigue AU about Ginger as told from Mint's POV
A Death Note fic in which Misa is smart actually and successfully tricks Light into thinking she's not (i.e. a fic giving rational reasons for her canon behavior)
A Death Note fic in which L manages to figure out who Kira is after being introduced to Rem. This one I'm actually pretty happy about because I think I captured L's thought process pretty well so far, so who knows, maybe I'll get back to it someday, or at least post what I do have
An original work taking place in an alternate universe with fantasy/sci-fi aspects, exciting heists and mystery, starring a very competent asexual character who joins a group of criminals to provide for and protect his mother. I started it many years ago and have maybe half of a full draft, but I have realized since then that it may have problematic parts in its core concept. Certain aspects of it were cool though so I might reuse those somehow eventually and rework the rest.
