I'm thinking of buying Jedi: Survivor as a gift for myself. Would you recommend playing it on console or desktop?
i’ve heard there’s been some wonky patches on pc so if its an option, maybe go console to be safe!
#i played it on my gaming laptop (didnt hit specs lol) but im hopefully gonna get a ps5#and get it on that#thanks for the ask!

there’s a huge part of me that wants to continue watching a play through of the game to actually experience it, but there’s another part of me that screams and runs away at the chance of encountering spoilers for that specific romance route…… as if i’m going to be able to play it in the next 1-3 YEARS!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! i’m so torn. i know i’m speaking into the void but where else am i gonna post about this.
#literally my specs on my computer suck it would never be able to run it#and i’m not getting a ps5 in a bajillion years cuz i don’t have that kinda money#so. all i can do is just explode#talk tag

i keep contemplating finally upgrading to a ps5 because there are just enough exclusives that i feel like its probably time but then i look at my og ps4 and i feel so attached to it i'm like i can't replace it :( its fan is so loud and it struggles with newer games and its load times can be so long and it only has 250GB of storage so i'm constantly uninstalling/reinstalling games but it still works and has served me so well
#ways to save $450#be unreasonably emotionally attached to an inanimate object#also stylistically i think the ps4 looks way better than the ps5#but i want to play expedition 33#and death stranding 2#and i just found this game called promise mascot agency that looks so up my alley???#could i play all of these but death stranding 2 on my laptop#yes#but do i like pc gaming...#honestly not really unless its a game where mouse and keyboard is better#i like how consoles just work#and i can be comfy on my couch#my laptop is on the older side and while it has good specs it still has been known to struggle#my friend keeps telling me i should build a dedicated tv pc which isn't a horrible idea but i gotta be honest#i just don't want to maintain that lmao#and i have a feeling it would cost more

I am genuinely so so sad that bc we don’t get tone indicators for the Inquisitor in DATV, I can’t ever bring my Cadash in without it coming off like they have been mind controlled :|
Angry hyper pragmatic Cadash you are EVERYTHING to me
#Cadash#Inquisitor Cadash#Cadash wants to turn Solas’ skull into a drinking cup to go next to his kadan’s collection of dragon trophies#We aren’t PEOPLE to you? You’re a demon in a suit made of my people’s blood! This is a MORTAL world and you can all FUCK OFF#(I have it on PS5 bc I wasn’t sure it would work on my laptop BUT it’s working on some peoples below specs so fingers crossed)#I’m thinking about buying the game a second time on PC to mod#anyway this is one thing that can’t really be modded around :/

yessss ff16 pc release next month i cannot wait for people to be consumed by the game and for more and more fic to appear it's gonna be fucking great
#love to see there's the usual crowd complaining that the exclusivity deal was only for six months so why did it take so long#when the devs literally went on record and said we want it to be decently optimised so it's gonna take longer#which is entirely fair when they'd spent the entire dev time optimising the game for the ps5 which has extrememly specific specs#while pcs are a lot more varied

the steam deck would find it difficult if not impossible to run switch 2 games (i think they’re supposed to have quite similar hardware?) so it really isn’t an option
If it isn't a bother would you mind explaining more this please? I'm somewhat tech iliterate with this stuff so please correct me if I'm wrong, but Isn't the Steam Deck supposed to have the performance comparable to that of a standard gaming PC, so I doubt common minimun requirements are an issue (specifically graphics and size because lbh It's nintendo games they can't be that demanding when compared to the average AAA title). Is it because of exclusive controls the switch 2 has?
and whilst the Switch 2 is living up to the Nintendo legacy of underpowered hardware, it would still probably be very hard to run on a desktop at all
1. Damn it is not that better or different from the past switch? Or you mean like underpowered when compared to a PS5 and such? 2. Again I'm admittedly pretty tech ignorant on the nintendo subject but Is the reason nintendo games are hard to pirate bc the company since the 3DS era implement some sort of special barrier software that makes it more annoying to crack than other common games and/or bc they actively track down piracy?
no its just literally that “the switch 2 has much higher specs than the switch 1”. running stuff on an emulator is already harder than running it on the original hardware 9/10 times. the answer to the question “huh? why can’t your pc emulate a switch 2?” is because the switch 2 is, again, a lot more powerful than the switch 1 and thus its games are more demanding. the Steam Deck is meant to be as powerful as a gaming computer, but the Switch 2 is literally a new gaming console that didn’t even exist when the Steam Deck launched. i think modern computers are not as powerful as you seem to think they are! you said “it can’t be that demanding” but actually emulation is just very demanding. the reason the Steam Deck would find it hard/impossible to emulate Switch 2 games (although again it’s really too early to say) is because Switch 2 games were developed with the Switch 2 in mind whereas the Steck has an extra layer of work to do (emulation)
all of this is a moot point anyway because as i said, you can’t emulate the switch 2 yet because nobody has developed the tools to do that.

to me the thing is like… ALL video game consoles are frankly getting too expensive right. but if we have decided that, for example, the playstation 5 is worth $500 USD, and it has really impressive under-the-hood technical specs, ALSO doubles as a dvd/bluray player and streaming device, AND has full compatibility with the ps4 back catalog INCLUDING free! FREE! version upgrades for digital ps4 games into their ps5 counterparts…. it’s still extremely expensive and the fact that games for it are $70 apiece is still gross, but it at least does a lot of things for that price point.
let’s look at the switch 2. it does like none of those things. no extra functionality beyond being a gaming device, not technically impressive enough to rival the current playstation or xbox or warrant a price hike. backwards compatibility is limited and appears to be PAID, possibly PER GAME. and they’re charging $450 for it. and this is NINTENDO, the console maker that claims to be the most family friendly and accessible to children. get fucking REAL

OLBA boys with a Gamer MC
Featuring: Cove, Baxter and Derek Synopis: How the boys would be around a Gamer MC (whether they're in PC gaming, console gaming, cozy, shooters, etc)
Cove
Honestly would be happy with any interests you had
Although he prefers to go outside and be at the beach, he would probably also try to learn about whatever game you're into at that moment
maybe he wouldn't fully understand (aka 'MC... all you're doing is farming and cleaning? Can't you do that irl?', or 'why are you making a sims character that looks like me? I'm right here? You can talk to me?')
but if you're excited, then he's excited
he would support you, and hell, maybe you could get him into a game or two? (M/C: 'Cove! This one has mermaids!' Cove: 'What?? I wanna play!')
If you're the type to get up early for things like Nintendo Direct or some other video game announcments, he would be there with you too. I mean, he's a morning person anyways, but he would still wanna to hang out and find out why you're so excited
would ask questions and be genuinly interested when he get excited over an announcment
If you're the type to swear and get angry at video games, Cove would be surprised at first but depending how you are with him normally (like do you usually have a potty mouth?), he would laugh it off
If it starts getting too much he would definetly come over to you, concerned and worried that you're getting too heated
talks to you in a gentle voice and tries to ground you/calm you down
M/C: 'F**K THIS MARIO GAME WHY CAN'T I MAKE THIS STUPID F**KING JUMP?!' Cove: 'I don't know but you're getting really riled up, M/C... Why don't we take a break and just breathe? I'll listen to you rant, if you want?'
would play Mario party with you if you ask :)
The 'downside' would probably be Cove pouting if you're gaming too long (some new expansion came out and you wanna play it for 12hrs straight? oops) and ignoring him. He's all for you enjoying yourself, but he wants attention too...
would probably have to get him an extra chair if you're a pc gamer
or sit in his lap if you're playing on console
I think he would REALLY enjoy watching you play too? Like honestly watching people play games is really relaxing and I think it would be relaxing for him because he gets to spend time with you
would force you to take breaks/eat/hydrate and whatnot
Cove: 'You've been playing four hours straight.. At least stand up and walk around M/C!!' M/C: 'Just one more game...'
He WILL pick you up and drag you away from your game if he needs to
Baxter
he may not get it either, like Cove, but he would support you
honestly all three boys are like: if this makes them happy, then I'm happy :)
I feel like he may get more into the tech side of it, tho, if he starts taking an interest?
and help figure out what best specs to use for whatever kind of games you are into?
he seems like the type to be willing to do research for whatever, especially if it helps you out and you're overwhelmed
Baxter: 'If you want M/C, you can go for this version of the console since you tend to play less intense games. That's why you don't have to overspend on something overpowered.' M/C: 'Oh, you're right! Thank you!'
Although I feel like Baxter might want to spoil you too...
M/C: 'YOU BOUGHT ME A PS5??? AREN'T THOSE SOLD OUT EVERYWHERE???' Baxter: 'I have my connections :)'
Would say 'My uncle works at nintendo/playstation/microsoft/etc' in the most serious tone, but we all know he's bullshitting... right?
Would probably enjoy watching as well, especially RPGs I think?
Like he would get into the story and ask questions and maybe even theorize with you
If you got up early for a game announcment, he would give you a thumbs up from bed before falling back to sleep. He ain't getting up for that, but he loves and supports you
If you get really heated playing a game, I think he would egg you on as a joke
M/C: 'F**K YOU I SHOT YOU!! HOW DID YOU KILL ME FIRST??' Baxter: 'You tell them, honey'
Of course if you get too rilled up, he would be beside you, gently putting his hand on your shoulder and suggesting a break and something to eat. Maybe just spend some time with him and relax :)
He can't blame you also if you get super hyperfixated on a game and play for hours on end
I always think Baxter is a work-a-holic and would get what those kind of moods would be like
Would bring you snacks and drinks tho :)
Derek
Derek is a gamer as well, which we know from his DLC
not a huge gamer maybe as yourself
BUT
would enjoy playing party games and racing games with you
Would really get into it as well. Maybe try to win by giving you smooches and tickles if you're too good
He would also be the type to be excited if you're excited by something
Would also get up early with you for game announcments - would even skip the gym if it was something you were really excited about
Would ask lots of questions but also do his own research into the game so he could talk about it as well with you?
I feel like out of the three boys he would most liking get into gaming with you
Maybe nothing too crazy, but you could convince him into something more casual
If you were playing something competitive, he would be cheering you on
Probably REALLY enjoys watching you play
Like honestly, watching someone play video games can be really relaxing and almost intimite somehow? Cause you're sharing their passion? idk man :)
If you're getting heated over a game and are swearing up a storm, he would be at your side quickly, trying to calm you down.
He gets games can be frusterating, but you need to breathe or you're gonna get upset and he does not want that
Will force you to take breaks
Derek: 'M/C... You gotta eat and drink properly if you wanna keep gaming! C'mon, we can have something together!'
Would probably make sure you keep a semi proper sleep schedule as well because he's a worry wart and wants to make sure you're healthy
Will carry you away from a game if he has too (will wait inbetween matches if it's something you can't pause. He understands that much)
a/n: my mind is unhinged today :)) Hope y'all enjoyed and I hope non of the boys were ooc? Let me know what you think :)

rat leader,,, i’ve been wistfully and yearning for a steam deck these past few weeks,,,, would you say it’s worth the price and should i get one,,,, do you have any recs,,,,,,
I definitely love mine and I’ve had it for almost 3 years now. A year ago I would’ve said yes it’s worth getting it, but right now I’m not sure since the switch 2 is coming out with what seems better specs and a really good selection of games. The consoles seem to be about the same price as well
A think a steamdeck is good if u don’t have a desktop pc, u don’t have space for a console like a ps5 (about the same price too if u buy it second hand like I did), and what u are looking to play are mostly games only available for pc. If u know what games u would play on it, please check if they’re steamdeck compatible (each game on steam should have a compatibility status). Some games I found are said to be compatible but actually have an input lag that drives me batshit, such as elden ring for example. With the switch 2 at least each game u buy u know will be adjusted to work on the console (I say with sincere hope). But with the steamdeck u can mod games and play roms, like that’s how I’m able to play some of my favourite games
It comes down to: what do u want to play, what do u have space for, what’s financially feasible for u
#ask hedge#I love talking about hardware#happy to yap more about the steamdeck if there is something specific u want to know about#if u can only commit to one piece of hardware and it would be a financial dent#I’d recommend taking the time to research what games u want to play and how well they will perform on what

The human eye can’t really tell the difference between 4K and 8K resolution. Video game console manufacturers, who have built their businesses selling increasingly powerful machines every few years, are grappling with a future where performance improvements are becoming less dramatic. Sony Group Corp. launched its PlayStation 5 Pro console in mid-November. The $700 upgraded version of Sony’s 2020 gaming machine uses AI to improve games’ frame rate while maintaining exceptional image quality — at least for 82 games that have been enhanced to take advantage of the new specs.
Article goes on to say the new PS5 Pro isn't really worth the extra $200 price tag, because it delivers an only incrementally better experience despite piling on all that extra horsepower.
We have reached the point of diminishing returns in gaming hardware. It's become impossible to add more polygons, resolution, or effects. And when they try, nobody notices.
Maybe it's time to, oh I dunno... create games with compelling stories?
Unpaywalled article here.

Nintendo.... can you hurry up and reveal the thing already, PLEASE!??!!?! WE ARE GOING INSANE OVER HERE!
IT HAS BEEN FULLY LEAKED!!!!!!!!! WE KNOW THE SPECS! THE MAGNETIC JOY CONS! A MOUSE LIKE FEATURE FOR THE CONTROLLERS! THE COLOURS! THE FUCKING MOTHERBOARD!!!! THE THRID PARTY ACCESSORIES!! THE POTENTIAL RELEASE DATE!!!!!!! If it's true that it's gonna be released in April then.... WHERE IS IT?!?!?
A Switch successor with better joy cons, way better specs that allow third party game studios to port their ps5 and xbox series games to the console, an ability to turn your joy con into a mouse which can allow games like Splatoon to control like a shooter game on pc, backwards compatibility with the Switch and the potential for games to get resolution and fps boosts, effectively addressing one of the biggest issues with the Switch 1, an expanded NSO with the potential for DS, GameCube and Wii games on the lineup.... Bro.... GIVE ME THIS DAMN CONSOLE NOW!!!!!!!!!!!
I don't wanna sound like a Nintendo dick rider or anything because i absolutely DESPISE a lot of what they do, but the Switch 2 sounds like a phenomenal sequel to an already great console. If we can get a new 3D Mario at launch, maybe a new Mario Kart and a cross gen release of Metroid Prime 4... oh... oh baby...

How to decide for resource limits when developing games for pc? Like memory usage limit
If we're developing a cross-platform game, we aim for the best performance we can squeeze out of our lead platform. If we're targeting PS5 as our lead SKU, that's 16 gigs of RAM, 8 cores at 3.5 GHz, and so on. We aim the majority of our dev time for that first and then we adjust up/down for the other platforms we're building for to stay within reasonable performance specs.
If the game is targeting PC exclusively or as the lead platform, I've seen two different general approaches. The first of these is the "enthusiast" approach where the team is purposely aiming for high visual fidelity and high spec machines as a selling point. Crysis is probably the ur-example of this approach, though it has somewhat fallen out of favor recently. This approach usually aims for near the top of the line when we're finishing up pre-production, which usually means it'll be targeting hardware specs about a year older than the latest by the time we launch. We can't really keep moving those goalposts because top of the line is always a moving target. Instead, we need a target set during production where we're doing the majority of asset creation, so we generally lock in our goal around the time pre-production ends and stick to it.

The second approach is the "broadest possible audience" approach where the target spec is good performance on the common spec at PC cafes in Asia, because that is the largest number of potential players. Blizzard was pretty famous for adopting this approach to their PC game development. By making the game able to run well on potato settings, we remove barriers to entry for as many players as we can. This generally means we can't put in as many pretty effects and visuals, but it also means we have a broader target audience.
