Me, rewatching Captain Marvel 2019, belatedly realizing that when I was writing a massive Ninja Turtles fanfic in 1998 I basically gave Michaelangelo's psionic powers the same origin story: absorbed cosmic dimensional energy from the crashed ship of an alien species. I rewrote it in 2016 a little differently, but I am extremely amused that it took this freaking long to make connections. I'm now laughing at myself.

And it's honestly the mindset I've always imagined Michelangelo to have or at least adopt. I thought it was beautiful and fit his ambitions, maybe he can't control the world, but he can make it a friendly one in his will. I've always imagined it was a more subconscious relaization for him, even if his brothers circumstances are cruel, that doesn't mean he has to wollow in them!

just thought it would be remiss to not share it when in my mind this is how Mikey truly thinks of the world. And it's a lifestyle I try to adopt too.

Congratulations to myself for completely forgetting that I wrote this.

wait what other terrying stuff did Mike do?? I can't recal any specific ones?

i’m gonna be late for work really quick here so this’ll be brief and without much citation for now.

but like, right off in the very first episode mikey meets a ‘human’ guy in an alleyway, and what does he do? he nearly gouges the guy’s eyes out. this was actually a kraang robot suit, so it was fine, but yo, if it hadn’t been?

and there were a bunch of little things, kinda day to day, in terms of how lackadaisical he is about a lot of stuff? like, oh they’re in the middle of yet another deadly battle. great time to start laughing in someone’s face. really not unnerving or anything (but this goes for majority mikeys throughout the iterations).

factor in that also, when it comes down to things, mikey is the better ninja in his family, even over Favorite Son/Student leo- demonstrated by that one scene where leo was in full mystic ninja mode (arguably the mode when they’re at their peak skill) and mikey not only got right behind leo without his brother noticing and grabbed him around the face and chest, but mikey had been shadowing leo like that since he left the lair. all without ever being sensed by the brother who’s they’re leader.

plus, the whole fact that he picked up an ancient disc thing, stuck its pieces back together with bubblegum, and just kinda. told the demon to stfu and stop killing people. literally no one else had even gotten the thing to respond even slightly- not even april, who is their most powerful member by the end of the series- and mikey barely held it a few seconds before he figured out how to use it.

this is all out of order but the whole dimension-x thing too, beyond him wearing an enemy soldier as a hat. none of his brothers- not even donnie, who’d been studying the dimension and usually has some inkling of how to cope with a new situation- could’ve survived in d-x as easily as mikey did. and he didn’t just survive for however long he was there (days, weeks, months?), he thrived in the hostile territory of the dimension. he had fun, running around in a world that has no ceiling or ground, is filled with flora and fauna that actively tries to kill you, and not to mention has an occupying sentient race that wants nothing more than to kill him and all of earth.

so yeah. it’s a lot of things, built up over time, that make 2012 mikey a rather scary individual. i’d specify more but i really do have to get to work.

A reader of my first AO3 fanfic just wrote this comment on the final chapter and it made me explode into rainbow dopamine glitter so I want to show my friends and also my writerbrain with its block:

Me, talking about this on Tumblr since fall 2016 and writing over 30 fanfics featuring Psychic Mikey: Awwww, I'm so glad to see more fans picking up on that.

It’s a bit fcked up that 2012! Mikey has consistently been the one to take on his mind controlled brothers. “Pizza Face” and “Parasitica” we’re basically two whole episodes where Mikey had to fight off his family alone while avoiding being mind controlled himself. I mean, it makes sense a bit. He’s likely the hardest to catch since he’s the most agile of his brothers and he has the most raw talent but still it’s a bit fcked.

He probably felt so much relief when Leo managed to avoid being bitten and turned into a vampire when they fought Dracula. Because he was finally not alone while trying to fight off the rest of his family. Though he was still the one that ultimately saved them from mind control in that episode as well. After all he plunged a steak right through Dracula’s heart. Which means he’s basically saved his whole family from mind control three separate times.

And don’t even get me started one rat king episode where Master Splinter attacked Mikey first. Which must have been so confusing and out of the blue for him.

Yeh I always saw Mike and Leo as more spiritual while raphie and don are more I guess more what’s the opposite of spiritual? Sorry I am not spiritual so I have no clue. What’s your headcanon for them?

In this case, I'll suggest the opposite of spiritual would be grounded. And yeah, my Spiritual Intuition Bros tag started after I watched the beginning scene of "Tale Of Tiger Claw" and got inspired to write a fic series.

In my 2003 AU, Mikey definitely matches Leo, but in very different ways. In the series, Leo casually told Mikey that he was the best at redirecting his chi - this always fascinated me because I felt it came out of left field. I imagine Mikey could be just as active with his spiritual energy as he is in body.

I like to give Mikey tactile telekinesis and photokinesis along with telepathy, because his mind is constantly in motion, constantly lighting up.

However, a trauma left Bob wanting anything but the bond he sees as a dangerous trap, and he takes matters in his own hands to chemically prevent his bond from effecting him. Patrick doesn't know what he did wrong but he knows that for some reason, his soulmate has rejected him and he has to learn to live with that. Between their pasts, their bands, and their hopes, neither of them expects end up where they do - so close with so much distance still between them.

Paramour by Merkey666, Mikey/Pete, 8k, Mature. Mikey is forced to leave Paramour due to health issues. Instead of going to rehab or anywhere else that would be a good idea, he goes to someone he hasn't spoken with in years. And yet Pete welcomes him anyway.

Between the Lines of Fear and Blame by notquitepunkrock, Frank/Gerard, 8k, Teen And Up. Frank was just trying to make things better, but they ended up so much worse.

At the End of the World by lemonsonmars, 913 words, Teen And Up. Gerard Way witnesses the death of his brother and deals with the trauma.

Little Fires by velvet_shiver, Frank/Gerard, 75k, Explicit. A traumatizing (and embarrassing) accident has kept Gerard Way away from Camp Warren for eight summers — eight summers which Mikey Way has spent at camp — but after a shitty breakup and terrible freshman year at School of Visual Arts, Gerard is forced to return to Camp Warren; this time as a counselor and art instructor. Gerard’s pretty sure the summer’s gonna be a total shit-show, until he meets Mikey’s cool friends. One of them’s a little cooler than the others, though. His name’s Frank, and he’s got moonlight in his eyes. ––––––––– Little Fires is a story about falling fast, confronting different types of trauma, and learning how to not be such an asshole.

What would turtle titans superpower be? I know one is speed and maybe increased agility? If he wasn’t already a trained ninja I mean.

good question! i’m personally a big fan of fire-powers mikey, but i don’t think that suits Turtle Titan and what he represents.

something sorta generic like super strength/agility/speed would work, but i kinda think being invincible or having the ability to create a force field would fit the turtle part of Turtle Titan. he’s a protector, after all :]

honestly i might do a series of shorts where mikey gets various different powers because he would have such a blast with all of ‘em fjsjdsh
