The trial for a Washington father and his wife accused of trying to kill their 17-year-old daughter in October 2024 is slated to begin Monday.
Ihsan Ali, 44, and his 40-year-old wife, the victim's mother, Zahraa Ali, are charged with second-degree attempted murder, second-degree attempted kidnapping, first-degree attempted kidnapping, and second-degree domestic violence assault in Thurston County.
Additionally, Ihsan Ali is charged with fourth-degree assault and Zahraa Ali is charged with violation of a domestic violence protective order and second-degree burglary.
The parents' alleged Oct. 18, 2024, attack on their own teenage daughter may have been a possible "honor killing" attempt, according to witness accounts detailed in court documents obtained by Fox News Digital.
The victim told police that her father was "trying to force her to go to another country, which had prompted her to run away earlier in the day."
She went to her former public school, Timberline High School in Lacey County, believing she could get help from adults there, and her father, mother and sister allegedly followed her to the school, an affidavit filed on Oct. 24, 2024, states.
The 17-year-old girl said a school counselor helped her find a room at "Safe Haven," and her plan was to take a city bus from the school to get there. While waiting for the city bus, the victim's father allegedly approached her and "said she needed to go home," the affidavit states.
"He would not take no for an answer and began pulling at her shirt. She said that once she was placed into a choke hold, she was unable to breathe or speak, and then passed out," the affidavit says, adding later that the victim believes she lost consciousness several times while her father allegedly choked her.
Video footage of the attack recently obtained by The Daily Mail shows part of the fight unfolding at the public bus stop.
Fox News Digital has reached out to the Alis' attorney, Erik Kaeding, for comment.
Multiple witness accounts detailed in the affidavit say the victim's father approached and attacked the victim while the victim's 16-year-old boyfriend got between the two and tried to intervene. The victim's father allegedly punched the 16-year-old boy, who in turn began "punching Ishan [Ali] in the head to get him to let go of [the victim]."
Witnesses also described seeing the victim's eyes roll back while her father allegedly choked her, according to court documents.
The victim's boyfriend's mother later told police that she had been present once for a CPS interview with the 17-year-old victim in which she apparently stated that "her father had recently been threatening her with honor killing for refusing an arranged marriage with an older man in another country."
The victim's boyfriend told police he believed the 17-year-old victim was "going to die while her father was choking her out on the ground," the affidavit reads.
The victim also said she "thought she was going to die" and recalled her mother and sister "trying to grab hold of her" during the incident.
READ THE AFFIDAVIT:
While the fight was underway, a bystander witness saw Ishan Ali put the girl in a chokehold "and would not let go." He intervened "and was eventually able to get the female to break away and detained Ishan for law enforcement as he was the primary aggressor," court documents read.
The boyfriend's father, Victor Barnes, previously told FOX 13 Seattle that he is glad his son "was there to save [the victim's] life" but added that he needs "more explanation about why the adults were so careless."
He told the outlet an adult should have escorted the victim to the bus stop rather than his 16-year-old son.
"High school for me is a time I’d never forget. It was probably some of the four funniest years of my life, and it’s unfortunate he would have to experience something like this in high school," said Barnes.
He further told the outlet that he had to file a restraining order against the victim's parents because they kept showing up to his family's home looking for the victim prior to the assault, FOX 13 reported.

MODERN/DND AU
(short thing i wanted to write cause you guys seem to like AU's more than i thought. Human AU, they play DND* *quick note i dont really know exactly how DND or TTRPG's work but i know theres a storyline mechanic and im using that to my advantage)
It really was an accident, truly. Jedediah didnt even know what DND was up until half a year ago, one of his best friends teenaged kid, Nicky, had picked up a kick for table top rpg's, Jed thought it was stupid at first but tagged along just to be sure there was enough players, he did care for the kid, he was like his nephew, he just didnt expect how much fun it would be. An hour and a half in and he was bored out of his mind, another hour in he was coughing up his lungs he was laughing so much! it was nice to spend time with his friends like this, and it made the kid happy, so he kept going.
it's just make-believe, a game of pretend, but the feelings he felt were real, anxious at the next battle, frustrated at the confusing (but clever) puzzles, the surprise and humor at a funny encounter, the second hand embarrassment for when one of his friend's characters made a fool of themself, and, the love. Jed knew that he felt something different for Octavius, at first he thought he hated the guy, but day after day it was made known that he actually loved him.
and of course, he had to be in the same DND group as him, classic, whats even funnier is that in-game, their characters are married, something about appeasing a court in the faewild, it didnt matter much because just a few weeks after that, Octavius asked him out on a date. They've been a couple ever since. But the group doesnt know that, they've made jokes here and there but it never crossed any lines, Jedediah didnt tell anyone out of fear first, Octavius didnt tell anyone because nobody asked much, he told people casually and it wasnt much of a problem after, so they never told the group.
Jed wasnt afraid anymore, so why not take a chance?
it was one of the calmer sessions in the games, still walking carefully in case of any curses that reside in the lands. "Its an awfully inviting clearing, the trees shift and stir, the birds chirp and sing, a foggy mist settles over the sides dimming the lights to reveal fireflies dancing in the air, but hiding any way of escape, what do you do?" Nicky narrates, hes gotten so much better at it, instead of the stumbly, stuttering sections of small text and strained, hidden voices of characters he was trying to play, he was bold and steady, the picture flowing seamlessly into the next "can i look to see if there are any traps or illusions?" Ahkmenrah asks, one of Jed and Larry's best friends from highschool, both of them were happy to see him again
"roll a perception check, add a disadvantage because of the fog" Ahk rolls his D-20 "uh, 17" Nicky nods, looking over to gloss over the page of his notebook "you spot a beartrap at the side of a fallen tree, its clapped around one of its branches, reaching out to touch the outside of the clearing, it seems that its real, but it doesnt feel like wood, it feels like a stone pillar, the area isnt an illusion, but not everything is right" they nod, one of them in the group, a guy named Lance that Ahk dragged along (who Jed totally didnt wanna punch because Octavius remarked on his eyes, no way) advanced forward and saw a shallow grave in the dirt, they all came to see it
"is there anything at the bottom?" Oct asked, Nicky smiled, bad sign "there is! a small wooden chest, there isnt any locks on it, it seems you can just open it like you would with any other box" Octavius hummed, Jed tried to ignore how the sound gave him butterflies "i take the box!" lance announced, Nicky describes how he takes it, opening it up to reveal a bottle with a note in it and a sharp dagger, obsidian blade with a willow wood handle, Octavius opted to inspect the dagger for any inscriptions or engravings
"you take the dagger in your hands, it feels heavier than any steel or even obsidian that you've ever held, in the handle it reads "with love, My dagger" everyone was confused, another puzzle, woo boy. Ahk tried to figure it out but just got nowhere, Octavius asked if there was anywhere you could put a dagger, "the stone alter shines slightly, there seemed to be a slot in it, but the air around it seemed that whoever did this, would pay a price" Octavius debated for a second before saying to insert the dagger, his character was met with a faewild curse
"you fall over, completely unconscious before you even hit the ground, a faewild curse passes over you, you shall be alseep for until you find a kiss of true and pure love, y'know like that one disney princess, sleeping beauty or snow white, i cant remember, but yeah" the group chuckles while Octavius states that this couldnt have ended worse, suddenly Lance pipes up "arent Gaius and Smith married? would Smith be able to wake him up or no?" Nicky passes Jed a D-20 "roll"
Jedediah rolled "12" Nicky laughed "alright yeah, Smith kneels down to check whats wrong, feeling the compelling urge to kiss Gaius, he gives him a kiss on the lips and suddenly Gaius's eyes flicker open, hes awake but has a disadvantage on all persuasion and strength rolls" the two others laugh, not thinking that would actually work when Jed smirked, the fun of DND was mostly that they got to act out what the characters do, right? he shrugged "alright"
Jedediah grabbed Octavius's face, pulling him in for a kiss, Octavius was shocked by the sudden affection but melted into it quickly, closing his eyes and pulling the other by the collar of his shirt. The table went into absolute chaos, they didnt expect THIS, Octavius pulled away with a smile, Jed chased his lips, connecting them again for another kiss "ALRIGHT BREAK IT UP BREAK IT UP!!" Ahkmenrah and Nicky yelled.
yeah, Jedediah likes DND nights

Rhys Darby at The Keswick Oct 17, 2023
What a GREAT time!
I realized today how much LOVE was in that room! Love for rhys, for his “essence” (har har) and love right back at us!
it was a delightful time, rhys doing his greatest hits,
he can’t promote OFMD, which is fine since half the audience was dressed as pirates. We know about his little pirate rom com.
but…he very subtlety did a riff on “come back to me” and not so subtlety did “I did a punch”. Pretty awesome ways he had of sneaking that stuff in!
he got the best cheers for that bit of fan service.
his opening act was great, and he was doing a bit about usa tv, and CSi. It was ok, but it was kind of flat for him until he said something about the kind of shows you guys watch are about gay pirates, and we all went wild.
I met a cool fan with the same name as me, she was just back from NYCC. That was great! So we hung out, had dinner, and chatted. It was so nice to rave on with someone about OFMD details, and of course Rhysie. Really made the experience so much better, because I always go alone to things.
Steve was also joking about “where the hell are we? Rhys asked me to a show in Philly with him, but this isn’t Philly, is it?”
GLENSIDE, we shouted. It’s actually a very cute, upscale, suburban bedroom community for Philly. And we call everything around here Philadelphia, so that’s hysterical.
philadelphia factory outlets is in Sanatogo,
Philadelphia folk festival is in Schwenksville.
today I told everyone at school I saw Rhys Darby, and they looked at me like “Is that a band?” 😂🤣😂
Rhys asked the audience if anyone was local to Glenside. YES! And you’ve heard of me?
😂🤣
the capacity was 1300 but I estimate it was only 3/4 on attendance max, so maybe 800, but many DEVOUT fans. The orchestra was filled with SUPERFANS.
Anyone who pays any attention to my silly blah blah blog know I adore Rhys, but these folks are NEXT LEVEL. I had an excellent seat, but I’m glad I wasn’t quite in the gravy basket with the priesthood up front. May Rhys Bless Them from on high.
no merch table, just two guys doing stand up. Just down and dirty, simple and great.
unfortunately he and Steve couldn’t meet and greet as they had to drive up to Connecticut. But Rhys and he drove by and honked at the crowd in front of the theater. Unfortunately for me, I was on the wrong side of the street.
see Rhys LIVE! It’s a special experience.
oh, and don’t use AXL ticketing with their stupid app. Luckily I was prepared with my proof of purchase, ID and CC. Never again!
but I’d definitely see Rhys again.
the audience is part of the show!

One more disaster
Daily Star Sunday 30 Oct 2010
X FACTOR heart-throbs One Direction suffered another disaster yesterday when a young fan was run over by their taxi.
The teenager was taken to hospital with her foot in a brace after being hurt as a horde of screaming girls wrestled to get a glimpse of the teen boy band. The accident comes days after band member Liam Payne, 17, hurt his ankle after falling on stage at a gig with Tinie Tempah at trendy Koko in Camden, north London.
Kids in barrier horror Daily Star Sunday 30 Oct 2010
X FACTOR bosses have beefed up security at the show studio after safety barriers collapsed when teens climbed over them.
A spokesman said: “As it’s half-term there are more people outside the studio than usual.
“The incident was dealt with swiftly by paramedics.
“Security and welfare of the contestants and the public’s safety are of paramount importance.”
ONE DIRECT CRUSH
Daily Mirror 30 Oct 2010
War has broken out between Matt Cardle and Katie Waissel – he yesterday dubbed her a “ fame hungry t***”. Matt allegedly also wants to punch Wagner Carrilho.
Mary Byrne has threatened to quit and yelled at the One Direction boys for parading round half-naked.
Meanwhile neighbours – including Spurs striker Robbie Keane – are up in arms because their quiet road in North London has been invaded by fans and the peace has been broken by late night parties.
An X Factor source said: “ The house is like a war zone. There is in-fighting among the contestants and they are making enemies of the neighbours, too. ”
Matt, 27, said he hasn’t spoken to Katie, 24, for weeks. Asked about their rumoured romance, he blasted: “ It was absolute bulls***. Katie’s a fame hungry t***... nothing happened. I would never go near her again.
“ I’m not speaking to her, I don’t have anything to do with her. She’s been a d***. I’ve made my feelings absolutely clear and if she doesn’t get it by now then she’s more stupid than I thought.” Asked what she could do to make amends, he said: “ Leave the competition.”
Another source on the show claimed Matt threatened to hit Wagner, 54, last week.
Apparently some of the men in the house got fed up with the Brazilian’s touchy-feely behaviour. And the girls in Belle Amie are said to be actively avoiding the oddball for fear he will try to chat them up.
Wagner, who is due to perform Meat Loaf’s
Direction were left in shock yesterday after the car they were travelling in ran over a teenage fan.
The boys were going to the Wembley studios to rehearse for tonight’s show when girls mobbed them.
But excitement turned to horror as 15-year-old Leah Robinson’s foot ended up under the taxi’s tyre in the chaos. Her friend tweeted: “ The car One Direction were in ran over her foot and she’s in hospital.”
Leah was discharged with a minor injury, and the band checked on her welfare after rehearsals.

LETTERS FROM AN AMERICAN
October 17, 2023 (Tuesday)
HEATHER COX RICHARDSON
OCT 18, 2023
This morning, the Ukrainian military launched a surprise attack on two Russian airfields in occupied Ukraine, using a longer-range missile system secretly supplied in the last few weeks by the United States. The Army Tactical Missile System, or ATACMS, has a range of about 100 miles, or 161 kilometers. It enabled the Ukrainians to damage runways and destroy nine Russian helicopters. The missiles also killed a number of Russian soldiers. One of the conditions of Ukraine’s acquisition of these weapons was that they would only be used within Ukraine against the occupiers, not in Russia itself.
The thirty-one M1 Abrams main battle tanks the U.S. had promised Ukraine have all arrived, the U.S. confirmed today. All the Ukrainian military personnel who trained to use those tanks in Germany have also returned.
A recent Russian offensive has been largely unsuccessful, while the Ukrainian goal of dividing the Russian invaders in two (much as the U.S. did to the Confederacy) has been partially achieved but troops have not punched through. At the same time, strategic Ukrainian attacks have pushed Russia’s Black Sea fleet out of its main base in the Crimean port of Sevastopol, and the Institute for the Study of War assesses that the attacks on the airfields will force Russia to pull its aircraft back and either to disperse its ammunition depots or to fortify them.
Meanwhile, the struggle in the House of Representatives today looked like a preview of the 2024 election.
Representative Jim Jordan (R-OH), a staunch supporter of former president Trump and a key figure in the attempt to overturn the results of the 2020 presidential election, is pushing hard for election as speaker, emphasizing how imperative it is for the House Republicans to enable the House to get back to business. As Karoun Demirjian outlined in the New York Times, Jordan and his allies have deployed a pressure campaign against those Republicans opposed to him, as she puts it, “working to unleash the rage of the party’s base voters against any lawmaker standing in his way.”
This is the same tactic that the extremists have used for decades to move the Republican Party to the right. But there is a different dynamic at play in this speakership crisis. Jordan and his allies created the crisis in the first place by supporting Trump’s demands to shut down the government, tossing out former speaker Kevin McCarthy because he would not agree to shut down the government, and refusing to abide by the vote of the Republican conference to accept the choice of the majority: first McCarthy and then Representative Steve Scalise (R-LA).
There is another way in which this moment is different. Jordan is a flamethrower who was one of the original organizers of the right-wing Freedom Caucus. Republicans saw McCarthy, who was an excellent fundraiser, as a pro-business Republican who worked with the far right, but Jordan is the real deal: a far-right extremist. Republican donors have already suggested they are not enthusiastic about working with him to fund Republican candidates.
The third way this moment is different is that putting Jordan in the speaker’s chair makes him, along with Trump, the face of the Republican Party going into the 2024 election. Representative Pete Aguilar (D-CA) previewed the many downsides of Jordan as speaker when he nominated Democratic minority leader Hakeem Jeffries (D-NY) for the speaker’s chair. Aguilar blamed extremism and partisanship for the unprecedented chaos of the House and urged the Republicans to embrace bipartisanship to do the work the American people had sent them to Washington, D.C., to conduct.
Aguilar noted that Jordan was “the architect of a nationwide abortion ban, a vocal election denier, and an insurrection inciter.” He has “spent his entire career trying to hold our country back, putting our national security in danger, attempting government shutdown after government shutdown, wasting taxpayer dollars on baseless investigations with dead ends, authoring the very bill that would ban abortion nationwide without exceptions, and inciting violence on this chamber. Even leaders of his own party have called him ‘a legislative terrorist.’”
Aguilar pointed out Jordan’s opposition to disaster relief, veterans’ relief, support for Ukraine, and military aid to our allies, including Israel, and added: “This body is debating elevating a speaker nominee who has not passed a single bill in 16 years. These are not the actions of someone interested in governing or bettering the lives of everyday Americans.” Jordan as speaker would mean the Republican Party would “continue taking marching orders from a twice-impeached former president with more than 90 pending felony charges.”
Even without mentioning Jordan’s involvement with the cover-up of a sexual assault scandal at Ohio State, Aguilar put Republicans on notice that placing Jordan at the head of the party would have brutal consequences in Democratic campaign ads.
When House members voted for speaker, the Democrats were unified behind Jeffries, who won all 212 of their votes. Jordan won only 200 of the 217 votes necessary to become speaker, with 20 Republicans voting for someone else. His allies initially said they would call a second vote tonight but changed their minds, apparently realizing that another loss would weaken his candidacy significantly. They say they will hold another vote tomorrow.
Tonight, hundreds of people were killed in an explosion at a packed hospital in Gaza City. Palestinian authorities blamed an Israeli airstrike for the explosion; hours later, Israel Defense Forces said the explosion was a misfired missile launched as part of a “barrage of rockets” by the Islamic Jihad militant group. Neither version of events has been confirmed.
Governments around the region have blamed Israel and sometimes the U.S. for the catastrophic loss of life, and protests have broken out in Lebanon, Iran, and Turkey as President Joe Biden travels to the region personally to demonstrate U.S. support for Israel, pressure Israel to permit humanitarian aid into Gaza, learn any new information about the hostages, and to try to keep the conflict from widening and escalating.
Biden will meet in Tel Aviv, Israel, with Israeli leaders, first responders, and families of hostages, but the second leg of his trip—to Jordan, for a meeting with King Abdullah II, Palestinian Authority president Mahmoud Abbas, and Egyptian president Abdel Fattah el-Sisi—was canceled as Abbas rushed home. National Security Council Coordinator for Strategic Communications John Kirby told reporters Biden would speak with Abbas and Sisi on the trip back to the U.S.

An Iraqi father charged with attempting to “honor kill” his teenage daughter outside her high school in Washington state appeared to care more about his car than his daughter as he was being arrested, new bodycam footage shows.
Ihsan Ali allegedly choked his 17-year-old daughter to the point of unconsciousness and punched her boyfriend in the face outside Timberline High School in Lacey in October because she refused to marry an older man in another country.
A chilling new video of the aftermath shows Ali yelling in Arabic to wife Zahraa Ali, who has also been charged, appearing concerned about police stealing their car as he’s being led by cops into the back of a cruiser in handcuffs.
“Zahraa, Zahraa, come here,” he yells, according to a transcript of the arrest translated by the Daily Mail
He called to another daughter, Haneen, and his wife to “take the car from [police] and drive it away so they don’t steal it. They took the car! They’re going to steal it!”
“The car … they’ll steal it!” he yells again.
Ali’s attacked daughter told police that “her father had recently been threatening her with honor killing for refusing an arranged marriage with an older man in another country,” according to charging documents previously obtained by The Post.
She had run away from home and sought help from school staff on Oct. 18, which outraged her parents, who showed up and attacked her — some of which was caught on camera.
As Ali choked his daughter as other students — including the girl’s boyfriend — desperately tried to pry her away, the documents alleged.
“It’s not right … you are not supposed to do this,” her father told her with his hands around her throat before she blacked out, the girl told police.
The girl escaped with her boyfriend, running to the school’s main office screaming, “My dad was trying to kill me” — prompting a school lockdown as school staff blocked the girl’s parents from getting inside, according to court documents.
Later in the video, Ali asked police if he could see the daughter he’d just allegedly tried to kill, according to the Daily Mail.
“You will not speak to your daughter,” the arresting officer tells him. “We’re investigating a criminal investigation right now.”
“Just let me tell her to come home … If I tell her to go home, she will go home,” Ali pleads before the cop slams the car door.
Ali, 44, and his wife, 40, were charged with attempted murder, attempted kidnapping and assault.
The boyfriend’s father, Victor Barnes, said his family have had issues with the Alis for months — including an alleged physical altercation that forced them to get a temporary protection order.
Honor killing is a practice in some societies in which family members justify killing a person, usually a woman, by claiming the victim has brought dishonor to the family, according to Britannica.

JUDGE DROPS CHARGES IN FATAL SHOOTING BY YOUTH
Dec 3, 1986 A Cook County Criminal Court judge dismissed charges Tuesday against a Mt. Carmel High School honors student who shot and killed one teenager and wounded another while he was being chased by a group of youths near Chicago Vocational High School.
A witness testified that the Mt. Carmel student, Anthony Smith, 17, had been beaten a short time earlier by a similar group, including the two he eventually shot.
After a hearing in Violence Court, a preliminary hearing court, Judge Robert Bastone ruled:
"I find there is no reasonable cause to hold him on the charges of voluntary manslaughter, aggravated battery and unlawful use of a weapon.”
Smith`s attorney, E. Duke McNeil, contended last month that gang members at CVS resented Smith as ”the little guy from a private school.”
McNeil said Smith had gone to CVS last Oct. 31 to pick up a girlfriend.
McNeil argued that Smith was ”accosted, attacked and robbed. . . . It was not unreasonable for him to stop and defend himself when he was chased and could feel himself in fear of being harmed or maimed.”
The prosecutor, Assistant State`s Atty. Michael Gerber, called the shootings ”vigilante action, pure revenge.”
Gerber contended that ”Smith had no apprehension of great bodily harm” to use as an excuse.
”This is not Dodge City,” Gerber said.
Killed in the shootings was Dwayne Holmes, 15, of 8554 S. Wolcott Ave. Norvail Nolan, also 15, was wounded in the abdomen.
The principal witness, Deanna Skipper, a CVS student, testified that she was standing on the stairs of the CVS auditorium at 8625 S. Chappel Ave. around 3 p.m. and saw Smith approaching and also saw a group of about 10 youths, including Holmes and Nolan, approaching Smith.
”They started to push him (Smith) around,” Skipper said. ”Dwayne hit him on the head with a cane. The others punched him.”
She said Holmes hit Smith with the cane ”with all his might.”
Skipper said she saw Smith give money to Holmes and then Holmes ”snatched” a watch from Smith`s wrist.
When the group of youths left, Skipper said Smith followed them.
Five minutes later, she saw Smith running back toward her being pursued by a group of 10 youths.
She said Smith stopped at the auditorium stairs and gave her his school bag and started to run again with the group in pursuit.
Skipper followed.
She said Smith was half a block ahead of his pursuers on Chappel Avenue when he turned.
”He pulled a gun from his belt and backed up,” Skipper testified.
”I heard four shots. Holmes and Nolan fell to the ground. I also fell because I didn`t want to get shot.”
Gerber contended that Smith ”never bled” in the original beating and ”was not seriously hurt.”
Detective Raymond Binkowski, however, testified that the next day Smith had a ”swelling to the side of his face, a bump on the back of his head and a bruise on his back.”
The states attorneys office has the option to present the case again to a grand jury to seek an indictment.
Prosecutors said no decision has been made.
STUDENT GETS BOND LOWERED November 4, 1986 at 1:00 AM CST
Seventeen-year-old Anthony Smith, an honors student at Mt. Carmel High School with what school officials describe as ”an excellent record,” had been chased by street-gang members before, his family said.
For that reason, his defense attorney argued Monday during a bond hearing, the teenager turned and fired on a group of youths who were chasing him last Friday, killing one of them and wounding another.
”He felt his limb and life were in jeopardy,” Smith`s lawyer, E. Duke McNeil, told Cook County Criminal Court Judge Robert Bastone. Smith fired the deadly shot under ”extreme provocation,” McNeil said.
Smith, 8021 S. Marquette Ave., is charged with voluntary manslaughter and aggravated battery in connection with the shootings.
Bastone on Monday lowered a $300,000 bond set for him to $40,000, which means the youth can go free after posting $4,000 cash.
Smith was running from a group of youths last Friday when he allegedly turned and fired a .22 handgun, killing Dwayne Holmes and injuring Norvail Noland, both 15-year-olds, said Assistant State`s Atty. Mary Ellen Cagney.
Noland, who was shot in the abdomen, was in serious condition Monday night in South Chicago Community Hospital, a hospital spokesman said.
Smith had gone to Chicago Vocational High School, 2100 E. 87th St., to pick up a girlfriend when the youths beat him up and chased him, McNeil said.
”I would implore the court,” McNeil told Bastone. ”He obviously doesn`t need to be in the County Jail.”
During the bond hearing, Smith`s father put his arms around his son, kissed him and told Judge Bastone that his son had ”never, never, never” been in trouble.
”This is my baby, sir,” said Smiths father, Dotris, who has worked at Continental Can Co. for 14 years. ”Hes a perfect boy.”
Smith is an honors students at Mt. Carmel, where he has ”an excellent record,” said Rev. Robert Carroll, the school`s principal.
He is a National Merit semifinalist, which means he ranks amoung the top 1.5 percent of all high school seniors nationwide, Father Carroll said.
Smith`s mother, Esther, said her son was considering attending either Harvard or Stanford University next year.
”A month or so ago he was chased home as he had been several times in the past, especially when he wore his Mt. Carmel jacket and hat,” his mother said outside the courtroom.
McNeil contended that gang members at CVS resented Smith as ”the little guy from a private school.”
Cagney, however, argued that ”even if he were chased by these people, they were unarmed and he turned and fired at them. Self-defense just doesn`t hold up.”
A neighbor of the family said that Smith had taken her daughter out and ”Ive never worried about her when shes with him.”
That neighbor, Cynthia Thomas, said she was shocked to learn that Smith had been carrying a handgun.
”The part about the gun–I know it seems like a very drastic step to take,” said Thomas.
But she added that Smith may have felt that he had to defend himself.
”Im so sorry hes involved in this and my heart just goes out to him,” Thomas said. ”I know this is nothing to play with and he must be a very frightened young man right now.”
Smith`s parents said they felt they will be able to raise the $4,000 to bail out their son while he awaits his trial.
1 KILLED, 2 HURT NEAR HIGH SCHOOL
November 1, 1986
One youth was killed and another wounded in a shooting near Chicago Vocational High School (CVS) late Friday afternoon.
A third youth was beaten moments later in a second attack near the the school.
Dwayne Holmes, 16, of 8554 S. Wolcott Ave was pronounced dead at 9:36 p.m. at University of Chicago Bernard Mitchell Hospital after being shot.
Charged with one count of murder and one count of aggravated battery in connection with the shootings was Anthony Smith, 17 of 8021 S. Marquette Ave., according to Lt. Philip Cline of the Pullman Area Violent Crimes.
According to Cline, the incidents appear to be unrelated.
He said the two teenagers were shot first, at about 3:50 p.m., near CVS, 2100 E. 87th St.
The second incident took place a block away from the first in a parking lot on the corner of 87th Street and Jeffery Boulevard.
At South Chicago Community Hospital, a spokesman reported that Norvail Noland 15, of 8723 S. Kenwood Ave., was in fair condition.
Dion Hayes, 17 of 3518 Maple Lane, Hazel Crest, was beaten with a baseball bat on the head and face and taken to South Chicago Community Hospital where he was listed in good condition.
In the shooting incident, Cline said Smith, a student at Mt. Carmel High School, was at CVS to visit a girlfriend when several members of a gang approached him and asked to which gang he belonged.
When he replied that he did not belong to a gang, one of the members allegedly knocked Smith`s hat off and they began to chase Smith, before Smith turned and shot them, Cline said.

Please help with the sleep deprivation. I have a flu. They didn't let me sleep last night or today. I slept a little. They ruined my sleep today. I just went through the starvation abuse. I am waiting for a new credit card. There are criminals across the street. Can they not at least let me sleep during the @#$%ing day?
They won't let me set up the credit online without the physical card. Is that normal or FOUL PLAY? I couldn't get anyone to help me. The bank cut off my credit, then they cut off my debit AND welfare. I didn't get welfare until Nov 19th. Credit cut off Oct 16/17, 2024. OTB 70.85 supposed to be 8th, received Nov 14. For Christ's sake.
Flakes of Chicken 5th stage.
Coat/pink shirt 4th stage.
Camo sweatshirt 3rd stage protein starvation after finally receiving OTB cheque. I had to ORDER IN with my $70.85 because fags threatened to punch me in the No Frills.
I COULD NOT GET A LOAN. I COULDN'T GET "BANK VERIFICATION" BECAUSE THEY CUT OFF MY SAVINGS AND DEBIT ACCOUNT. I HAD $0.82. I HAVE VERY GOOD CREDIT 746 AND I OWN MY HOUSE. THE RAPE GROUP WON'T LET ME WORK AND THEY CUT OFF THE WELFARE TOO SO I COULDN'T EVEN GET A LOAN, PLUS THE TWO ACCOUNTS.
