aaaahhhhhh   .. the rigours of pain .. the system invigorates .. the sleep infused parts hitherto around but never abound due rise with the growing synchronisation of all that lay dormant , perhaps for too long .. they must be brought to use and be given the character they ever did have and now lost to be given regain ..

Picnic places for little Mumbaikars

School children are always looking for a break, so called picnic. They are so stressed with the pressure of the studies that they hardly enjoy their childhood sometimes. This bird sanctuary offers children a very close acquaintance with several bird species. One could witness a lot of bird varieties during the migrating season from October to April. Apart from bird children also see some other animals, including boar, langur, antelope etc.

Rhino Family in jaldapara Wildlife

Jaldapara Wildlife Sanctuary is situated in the Jalpaiguri district of the state of West Bengal. It is located along the eastern foothills of the Himalayan Mountain range. The park has distinct varieties of flora and fauna.This sanctuary is established in 1941 for the protection of the Indian one-horned rhino, the Jaldapara Sanctuary covers 216 sq km.

The wild life, in addition to the famous Great Indian One Horned rhinos, consists of Royal Bengal Tigers, wild elephants, deers, swamp deers, hog deers, wild pigs, bisons. Some rare species like the hispid hare and the hog-badger are also found here. Besides wildlife viewing, there is scope for unusual holiday activities like elephant riding and leisurely strolls through the towering grass.

The main attraction of the sanctuary is Asiatic one-horned rhinoceros. The sanctuary holds the maximum number of rhinos population in India after Kaziranga National Park in Assam.

Elephant Safari

The one hour Elephant safari is the best way to explore the sanctuary. The safari, which begins early in the morning should be booked early in the morning, as during high times, its availability can not be guaranteed.

By Air

The Bagdogra Airport is the closest airport and this is the most feasible option for travelers who are planning to arrive by air. The place is well connected to some Indian cities such as New Delhi, Chennai, Mumbai and Kolkata. International flights are available from places such as Bangkok and Paro as well. Taxis are available from the airport and you can hire these to reach the place. They cost around Rs 7 per kilometer for the trip.

By Train

The nearest railway is situated at Madarihat, which is located around d 7 kilometers away. However only passenger trains stop here and the better option would be the Jalpiguri station that has better connectivity to several Indian cities. Regular trains are available from Chennai, Kolkata and New Delhi. Second class tickets from New Delhi cost around Rs 440.

By Road

To reach by road from Siliguri, take the NH31 to Dalgaon via Coronation bridge, Dam Dim, Mal Bazaar and Chalsa. From there, take the NH31C to Madarihat via Birpara. Distances from Major Cities New Jalpaiguri : 133 km (E)/3 hrs. Siliguri : 75 km Bagdogra : 135 km/3 hrs.

About Matheran

Matheran is one of the beautiful hill stations in Maharashtra located at 90 km from Mumbai.This place was discovered by Hugh Poyntz Malet, the then district collector of Thane in 1850.Matheran is located at an elevation of 2625 feet above MSL. It covers an area of 8 square kilometers in Sahyadris, The Western Ghats. It has also been declared as the eco-sensitive region by the Ministry of Environment and Forest, Government of India.

Due to easy access and near to Mumbai it became a very popular weekend gateway.The hill station is also a home to the large population of monkeys including Bonnet Macaques and Hanuman Langurs. This place is a haven for snakes from harmless keelbacks to pythons to deadly cobras and vipers.

The trek:

It was Saturday, 9:00 AM on the clock and we started our journey from Bhivpuri Road.After a walk of 15 mins, there was a beautiful lake in our way.

The way to Garbet plateau goes across the edge of the lake which makes the start of the journey very beautiful and exciting.

After crossing water stream we started climbing the first hill.

As it was first few days of monsoon and it’s a time for farmers to plant rice. view from the top was very pleasing.

after an hour of walk, we reached a village called. we took a small break and then started climbing another hill which was very sloppy and straight.

It started raining heavily and we were at a good height where the path is covered with fogs.before we reach Garbet plateau we pass through Hanuman caves.

the caves are not good maintained but look good as covered with green grass. When we look back from the top it was the very long way that we covered through the water mountains villages.

15 minutes from Hanuman caves and we reached Garbet plateau and it was the very pleasing view of the plateau. Greenery everywhere! beautiful valley at one side and Many small/large waterfalls at another side.

we went to the west side of the plateau and pleased with the panoramic view of the surrounding through the fog. small small waterfall across the plateau are flowing in opposite direction due to high air pressure.

we had some rest there in such a pretty surrounding and again started walking towards Garbet point.this is a part of Trek where one has to be very careful as this route is sloppy narrow and there may be the pressure of air.After climbing we reached Garbet Point of the Matheran and finally, we felt glad that we climbed almost 20kms.

There are 2 ways coming out from Garbet point take the right one and keep walking until you get train tracks. it was 30 mins journey into the jungle for us. and we reached Aman lodge station of Matheran. and by local taxi, we came back to Neral and then home by lots of beautiful views stored in eyes!
