Red Flannel -- Dec 18th

No Pairing: Dean, Sam, Jack, Cas, Reader

A/N: This was written for @webcricket advent challenge.  Today’s prompt: Red Flannel. I suck at titles. Total Fluff.

Word Count: 740

Of all of the colors you loved, red has to be your favorite. Every important event in your life red was there, specifically red flannel.  It was gripping you tight when alcohol was poured over a bullet hole, or draped over your shoulders after a long hunt.  The best was when it was balled up under your head while you listened to the purr of Baby roll down the highway home or stealing one of the boys’ extra large red flannels from the dryer and sneaking off to the library to read for hours.  Yeah, it was your favorite, so when you saw the sale in the men’s department you knew you had to stock up.  Your boys went through shirts like water, the sales clerk was very amusing when she raised an eye as you bought twelve of them.

It was Christmas day, the tree was lit, the ham was eaten and Dean had been teaching Jack the fine art of gift shaking for the past few hours.

“Get away from those, you two.” You chuckled your order.  Their smiling faces were worth everything you all had been through this year.    

“Gorgeous, come on how long do we have to wait?” Dean whined.

“Yeah he’s right.” Sam agreed.

You filled your wine glass, “Ok fine, I give in, but we’re still watching ‘Love Actually’ when we are done.” Dean groaned. “No buts, we’re watching it.”

“Why are you complaining Dean? It is my understanding that you love chick flicks.” Cas responded.  

Dean scratched the back of his head, “I do but it’s just I don’t think the kid will enjoy it.”

“Really Dean,” You put your hands on you hips, “He likes Scooby Doo. He’ll like it.”

Four boxes wrapped in green snowman paper sat stacked under the tree. “These are from me.” You handed each man a box.  “They aren’t the only thing I got you but they’re my favorite.” You smiled as they unwrapped them.

Cas and Sam were gentle pulling at each end trying not to tear the carefully wrapped gifts while Jack followed Dean’s queue and ripped the paper right down the center. Inside each box sat three meticulously folded red flannel shirts, “These are great (Y/N)!” Sam was the first one to say something.

“Thank you!” Jack smiled, “Do you know that they are all the same?” He point blank asked you.

You chuckled about to speak, when Dean interjected, “Jack, you’re a Winchester now. It is a prerequisite to have at least three flannel shirts. (Y/N) just put you ahead of the game.” He stood and kissed you on the side of your mouth. “Thank you darlin’!”

Cas was the last to speak, “These are very nice,” he shyly complemented looking down at his shoes.

“Hey Cas, you don’t have to wear them.” You moved to his side padding his hand,  “I know you like your outfit. You wont hurt my feelings, if you don’t want to wear them.”

“It’s not that. I just think you should open my gift to you.” Cas suggested and you smiled.

You found the gift he had tagged just for you, quickly you shook it, “Is this it?” he nodded.  You peeled back the paper, and lifted the box up.  Giggles burst from you when you found a bright red and black flannel shirt.

“I remember you being disappointed when you tore it a few weeks ago.” Cas explained.

Something in you made a tear fall from you face, it was just a shirt, but it wasn’t.  It was everything perfect and wonderful in your world of death and destruction.  “Are you ok (Y/N)?” He asked as his bright blues locked on to yours.

“Yes, Cas it’s very sweet. I love it so much, hunny bee.” You embraced him tightly kissing his cheek.  You saw Dean wiping away a tear, “And someone doesn’t want to watch a chick flick, really?” You broke you hug only to call Dean out.

“I wasn’t crying.” Dean pretended to protest.

“You are such a girl.” Sam smacked his brothers back.

“Am not!” Dean started to pick a fight.

“Ok ok boys!  Lets focus there are a lot of gifts under this tree and I want to watch the movie before we all fall asleep.”  You watched your most precious gifts smile at each other while they passed around gifts and you locked that memory in your mind to cherish forever.
