*filling out Bobby's feedback forms* Ravi, reading out loud: "Is there any preferential treatment happening in this firehouse?" Buck, scoffs: That's an easy 'no'. Bobby doesn't play favourites, and if he did, it wouldn't be me. Hen: Are you being serious right now? Chimney: Someone tell me he's joking. Eddie, bluntly: No, that's just the trauma of growing up feeling unloved by his parents. Buck: ...That was uncalled for. Just for that, you're sleeping on the couch tonight. Ravi, writing: "Yes, but I'm fine with it."

Besides writing, I also edit! This one was one of the first ae edits I ever made. This one turned out a bit choppy though.
If you'd like to see more, I have a tik tok account called cherry.aep8! It's multifandom but I mostly post pjo and agggtm edits.
Anyways, I'll start posting fanfics again next week, I only have to take my graduation exams and I'm home free!

Proceed with caution
This is speculation for 9-1-1 8x15 and beyond and includes potential spoilers based on bts photos and videos, so read at your own risk. Putting most of it under the cut since it got away from me.
_______________
"Athena."
Bobby's voice cracks on the last syllable, his tone of voice unlike anything Buck has heard before. The line of Athena's shoulders goes rigid on screen, visible even through the suit she's wearing for protection. Her back is to the camera but Buck knows exactly what her expression looks like.
"Bobby." she warns. Her voice comes in scratchy, too far from whoever's radio is closest.
Athena had brought the anti-viral just in time to save Chim, who walked out supported by Ravi moments ago, Hen close behind on a gurney. Bobby has yet to follow. Why isn't he following?
The sound has stopped transmitting, but Buck can tell the two of them are still talking by the way Athena is gesturing. She tries to walk towards Bobby only for him to step away. Buck frowns at the security footage, about to ask into his radio what Bobby thinks he's doing, when the man in question reaches up and takes off his helmet.
There's a steady trickle of blood dripping from his nose.
Buck blinks.
Athena's shoulders are shaking now. Buck swears he can hear her yelling all the way from the tent, even though Bobby doesn't have his radio on.
"Why is he doing that?" Buck asks no one. "Wh-what is he taking off his helmet for, he-he needs to get out of there!"
On screen, he watches Athena approach her husband, resting her gloved hand on his cheek, wiping away the blood on his face, only for more to rush out and take it's place. The video quality is poor at best, but Buck is almost certain he can make out tear tracks on Bobby's face. He wants to look around the tent, to check if anyone else is seeing this, if anyone else has any clue what's going on, but he can't tear his eyes away from the footage.
Bobby moves to sit against a wall, and Athena goes with him, his forehead tilted against hers. He watches as Bobby reaches up to his shoulder and grabs at his radio.
"Buck, are you there?"
Buck moves on autopilot, lifting his radio to his mouth. "I'm here, Cap." he answers, his voice hoarse from use.
"It looks like I'm not going to make it out of here, kid." Buck hears what Bobby says, but he doesn't understand. All he has to do is stand up and walk outside, so why isn't he doing that?
"W-what do you mean? Of-of course you're going to make it out, c'mon, Bobby!" Something is really wrong, Bobby never talks like this.
"I need you and Athena to look out for each other." Bobby continues, while looking at his wife. She's pressed as close to him as she can get around her inflated suit, but even Buck knows it's not nearly close enough. "You two are going to need each other after…after today."
Distantly, Buck is aware of the taste of salt on his tongue as he speaks. "Bobby, you know I'm…I'm always here for you and Athena."
"And you have no idea how much that means to me." Bobby says. He's starting to sound out of breath, now.
Somewhere behind him, Buck can feel a hand on his shoulder, squeezing in attempted comfort before gently pushing him into a chair. He keeps waiting for something to happen, for someone to rush forward with another antiviral, or even to say this has all been some sick joke. Anything.
Bobby's hand falls away from the radio, and Athena reaches up to press the talk button so he can keep going. "I need you to promise me, Buck. Promise me that…that you two will lean on each other when you have to."
His vision is getting blurrier by the second, the grainy image of Bobby and Athena almost disappearing completely. "I…I promise, Cap." Buck says. He's having a harder and harder time talking around the lump in his throat. On screen he watches as tear tracks take the place of blood on the bottom of Bobby's face.
"I'm so…so proud of you, Buck." Athena is running her hand through Bobby's damp hair, the other still working the radio. Bobby's hand is resting limply on her thigh where she kneels next to him. "All that I have ever wanted…is for my family to be happy and safe. And that means you, too."
Buck's own hand is shaking as his lifts the radio back up to his mouth. His fungers fumble with the buttons for a few moments before the person behind him gently takes it out of his hands and presses the button for him.
"Y-you're my family too, Bobby." he chokes out. The lump is even bigger now, he's surprised it doesn't tumble out of his mouth with the rest of his words.
"I love you, son." A kind of keening wail escapes, and it must be from him because the whole world has narrowed down to just Buck and the screen in front of him.
"Bobby, please!" He takes a deep, rattling breath, pushing away the tears from his eyes with the sleeve of his hoodie. "Don't-don't say it like that." he begs.
"Buck…" It's Athena this time, and viscerally Buck knows somewhere in the back of his mind that this is his chance, and if he misses it he will regret this moment forever.
"I love you too, pops." He sees Bobby nod to himself, small smile on his face as his eyes flutter shut briefly, before Athena shakes his shoulder.
Seemingly out of nowhere, May and Harry appear next to them, the radio he was using turned over to them. Later, he will find out that one of Athena's coworkers picked them up and raced them over to the lab, to let them say their goodbyes. But in the moment its just one more impossible thing that he can't belive is happening.
He doesn't belive it when he watches Bobby's body finally slump to the side, caught only by Athena's arms holding him against her chest.
He doesn't believe it walking down the streets of LA, marching behind a truck carrying Bobby's name on the back.
He doesn't believe it when Athena give a speech, when she throws the first fistful of dirt into the ground.
He doesn't believe it when he cries into Maddie's arms that night, sitting on her couch, unable to go to bed on his own.
He doesn't believe it when he texts Bobby and never gets a response back, no matter how many times he tries.
He doesn't believe it when he's finally cleared to go back to work, walking back into the place that feels so much less like home than it did before.
For days, weeks, he walks around in a fog, doing his job, but only barely, living his life, but only just. He stares at the unread texts on his phone and he carries a list in his pocket of things he wants to ask Bobby, and he takes the long way around to avoid driving down the street they marched on. And he still doesn't believe it.
Until one day, after work, Athena's squad car is parked outside of the station. She's leaning against the door with her arms crossed, aviators across her face like armor.
"Get in." she says, tone holding no room for arguement.
Ten minutes into the drive Buck realizes where they're headed, and he seriously considers jumping out at the next red light. His hand creeps towards the door just to check if its unlocked.
"Don't even think about it." Athena hasn't even turned her head. "Or do you intend on breaking your promise so soon?"
Buck clenches his hands together in his lap, jaw clenched shut. "No." he says petulantly. Its exactly what he needs, though, and Athena knows it. He promised Bobby he would be there for Athena, and if she needs him for this he'll follow through if it kills him.
She makes him carry the bouquet that had been hiding in her back seat, their walk down the well maintained side walks slow and purposeful. Buck has to keep his eyes down as they approach their destination, refuses to look at the stone slab in front of him while he sets the flowers down on top of the dirt.
Only when he steps back, shoulder to shoulder with Athena, does he really take it in. Robert Nash. Beloved husband and father. Psalm 30:5. August 10, 1968-April 17, 2025.
"He left you his recipe box." Athena says, breaking the silence. "We had it in storage, while we were building the house, but-" she cuts herself off, and all Buck can do in response is nod his head. The lump is back, and he's not sure if he can manage to speak around it this time.
"Maybe…once the house is finished you could come by for dinner, some time. Look through and pick something we can make together."
He blinks away his tears and clears his throat. "I'd like that." he rasps.
Athena nods, and from his periphery Buck can see a single tear slide down from behind her sunglasses. "Good."
And he still doesn't quite believe it, despite the mounting evidence, and he isn't totally sure he ever will. But the one thing Buck does believe in, standing there in the cemetary in front of the only father he's ever wanted, is Bobby. And if Bobby wants him and Athena to get through this together, than they will.
For him, they will.

"No streaks. Like the wall is barely even there."
Have we talked about this? And the fact that, two episodes ago, that was the wall standing between Buck and Eddie??

An “outsider” who helped save the day twice and was there for the beginning and end of Bathena’s story 🤔?
yeah - he wasn't there for the bulk of the last 8 seasons (which is eddie's concept of tommy and ours, except we've seen the begins episodes), and he has said in canon that he feels like an outsider.
i think the whole point of tommy actually being a good person to vent to is that he will understand eddie feeling like an outsider, and he will understand the jealousy.
tommy gave up the 118 to go to harbor, and he missed the golden nash dynasty (for the most part). he has literally lived on the outside, even if he got to experience the beginning (and the end). i think to a degree he IS an outsider, but that doesn't mean he doesn't have ties.
just the same as eddie is definitely not an outsider, but he was outside of the situation because he left the 118 for el paso and is a core crew member who missed this pivotal moment.
tommy just point blank is not currently a core crew member. (at this stage in his story, he's auxiliary at best. doesn't mean it can't change.) and i could see eddie being mad about that because he experienced something eddie didn't.
like imagine his misguided anger. his grief. mb it's the kind of fight that results in clarity. like mb they'll be actual friends again. idk. but i think it would be a good story to watch.

Buck: So you lied to me. Bobby: I didn't lie, per say. Buck: You said everything was fine and now we learn that you had plans to leave?! Bobby, distressed: Son, please - Buck, wounded: Don't do that! Don't call me that! I trusted you, and you lied to me! *on the other side of the station* Eddie: Should we be doing something? Hen: I say we let them play it out. The station family drama has been a bit dry lately. Chimney: Not that it isn't fun to watch you pine over Buck and Tommy, but it gets old. Eddie, blushing: I do not pine! Ravi, muttering: Denial is not a good look on you.
