(sending this as an ask because it got WAYY too long to be a reply whoops) i really like your opinions on the routes!! especially on the ais waugh…. i am planning on playing kanna's routes whenever i eventually replay this summer + i am excited to see what they entail…. but yeah overall i really like your thoughts and man do i need to replay yttd T_T it has been so long. (+ this is where the reply turned into a small ramble about qtaro because the autism) plus your comment about how the main games have gone + the qtaro thing. sorry i am ill about him. glad to see someone who understands his intent there because although i am not active in fandom ANYMORE i used to see so many people absolutely hating him for that (<- like obviously not the best way of going about things but he had intentions. okay?) (also i would like to make the comment of although in 8th grade i had intense hyperfixation on alice, ever since my first playthrough in 6th grade (HOW HAS IT BEEN THAT LONG?!) qtaro has + always will be my favorite sorry society….). i still remember when 3-1b came out + so many people were like "oh maybe qtaro is not deplorable" meanwhile i was over here #1 qtaro fan sobbing. sorry this is so long

REPLAYING YTTD

oho...!! i do think even a general replay (without seeing other routes) is really worthwhile to get a better feel for the characters & see how you can recontextualize things they're doing/have said at the time... i love combing through to see what nao and kai were up to in particular just before the main games <3

while i do think there was more that nankidai could've stood to do to differentiate the two routes particularly to make kanna & shin's separate routes feel like an actual choice, i do think that what small things are changed are still worthwhile & cool to see! i hope you enjoy your replay!!! :D

Q-TARO

YEAH exactly... i'm really sad that it's taken until his literal death to truly appreciate him as a character when more morally ambiguous characters like... well. shin, keiji, and even kai (though i'd honestly argue that most people don't see kai for who he is, you know; rather they place emphasis on his attractive appearance...) -- what they've done & how they behave are excused because they're, frankly, thin enough to care abt.

i've gone on about this before, so i won't linger much more than i need to, but i find it so strange that most people don't seem to recognize that - if not in the moment, i can understand that everyone's emotions are in a swirl. even the player's, but in chapter two when he says he felt a connection w kai - q-taro is autistic. and this definitely makes how he approached things in the first main game all the more understandable, personally... being so blunt about it when he'd settled on it being the clear solution, he even outright says that he doesn't want to see any of them just resign themselves right away to being voted out! & then we learn in ch3 as well that he's also experienced suicidal ideation which just lends so much more value to what he says...!! he doesn't want anyone to die, but certainly not with the belief that it's the only option they had. he wants them to at least have the chance to fight, just in case. and he's willing to hold himself to the same standard!

of course, first impressions mean a lot, but i feel like people saw this and completely missed the entirety of chapter 2 where he quickly warms up to gin afterward & even apologizes to sara for all she's had to deal with, despite it not being his fault, and expressing that he wishes there was something he could do even irt miley... he cares so much abt the kids within the group, even if it takes a lot of courage to support strangers when he knows he has other kids waiting at home for him... he still tries his damnedest, you know? i feel like there's something about that you have to respect. even when he's attempting to leave, you visibly see how conflicted he is about it & it's why sara can pick up on it so early, because he doesn't want to do this, it just feels like the only option... which. well. there's something to say about how gin's the one who's freely handing out tokens and yet q-taro goes to someone like sara first. someone who's been steadily pushed into the figurehead of the group, who is clearly strategic... versus someone who resembles the people q-taro's trying to get back to. hmmm. i sure wonder what the implications are here. (& i have a post for you. that you might enjoy... i've been meaning to write it for a while but i forget. but the idea is there.)

but. yeah... they didn't give him much room to grow in their mind after this point, which is so disappointing & definitely created a very toxic space. beyond that, it played into general southern stereotypes of him being the only homophobic/transphobic one, which i honestly often find treatment of to be in poor taste (it can be used well in stories, but you shouldn't just. throw bigotry on characters simply because you hate them...) -- but also just. blatantly untrue?

even just. everything about his treatment of people in general being so understanding once you explain something to him, or his desire to be a good person worthy of looking up to (which is why it doubly wrecks him when he sees himself become disabled/suicidal in the hospital, because he's become such a rotten person and he feels it and it's a terrible, terrible cycle) for the orphanage kids & to prove something to the parents who abandoned him that he's still worthy of being loved too... he believes in equivalent exchange in social dynamics, only ever giving out what you can take, just... in what world would he be so insensitive?

and this isn't even bringing up the fact that he has slightly longer than shoulder-length hair + nonetheless treats kai/mishima with a lot of respect and care even with them both generally being considered (physically, as well as in their demeanor) strange. combined with the fact that he relates to kai on the basis of being "lonely" rather than "loved" for what's unchangeable about them... there's so much there to read into. not just with autism or ptsd, but. gestures. transgenderism, being mixed, so on. things that sara had people to help support her with prior to the death game, or that she lacked altogether (if she's fully japanese)

but i digress! i'm glad that ch3-1 skirted some hatred toward him, but i definitely agree -- he's such a well-rounded characters even prior to that & it deserved to be acknowledged...!!

So i was thinking about making some characters and a story to post about here (with the purpose of comfort vore and so on, all that jazz) and i think i came up with the best thing ever.

It started as some characters to accompany my sona, and turned into a full circus. So. PLEASE. Let me know if you guys want the full thing.

(Btw, jest is my sona, and all these characters still need names !! Other than the tall shadow guy (billy, my dear husband :3) and the clown girl with the balloons, who is named bingo balloon, or maybe bingo baby. I havent decided yet, but im leaning towards balloon. Oh and the jack in the box flower, her name is bloomy)

If i were to go all out with this story, id rebrand this blog to "jests circus of delights" and share little comic scenarios of all these characters and their shenanagins (and maybe also allow asks and requests and stuff about the cast and all that, yknow, let people interact with it in a sfw way of course)

But i wanna know what you guys think :3 also, prompt for anyone reading or rbing, who do you think is pred, and who do you think is prey? i can’t really inflict gachiakuta propaganda on my followers via the standard method of rbing other people’s posts about it because there aren’t that many posts about it. so i’m taking it upon myself to make a post straight up telling you to read gachiakuta

gachiakuta is a shonen action manga about a 15 year old boy who lives in The Bad Part Of Town™️ until the day he is falsely accused of murder and sent to The Abyss - the giant hole they dump all of their trash in, except it turns out there’s been people living there for centuries.

it uses the concept of imbuing a Soul into an Object by taking care of it for a long time to come up with incredibly fun creative weapons, like switching through different prosthetic arms that have different abilities due to being associated with different times in your life, among a lot other more spoilery concepts. the way weapons are designed and used is one of the places the soul eater inspiration really shines through too (the creator, kei urana, was actually an assistant to atsushi ohkubo!)

the protagonist, rudo, is special - obviously, being the protagonist, but especially because his abilities revolve around him having strong personal sentiment over Trash and using trash for everything, because he finds the concept of being abandoned and treated as useless so relatable. a major part of the story is him learning how to connect with people and make friends now that for the very first time he’s surrounded by kind people he feels he can trust. the Power Of Friendship had to come in somewhere and it builds itself on a very strong foundation in gachiakuta.

not to mention the character design really rules sometimes 💚

it’s on a weekly release schedule with 127 chapters to date and no sign of stopping - it’s absolutely full of mysteries that have yet to be solved and characters we’re only just starting to understand. plus we’re getting an anime adaptation (flash warning) this year - no release date yet, but we’re supposed to get news at anime expo at the end of march :)

i should warn for some of the heavy stuff - some self harm, and human trafficking/offscreen sexual assault is a major part of a character’s backstory, and there will probably continue to be topics like these in it in the future. most of the time though there’s genre-typical blood and not much else 👍

i like gachiakuta a lot, i think it’s a great story about feeling broken and about trying to reach out to people even if you don’t know how, with interesting worldbuilding and a giant cast of characters both tragic and deeply silly. so if any of those things are things you like as well why not consider reading the manga or keeping your eyes out for the anime.

my concluding message: look at my favorite weirdos ⬇️. these could be your weirdos too. imagine.

If you've been seeing my posts so far, you may have noticed I started 16 days before April 1st, but only have 15 games. Well, today is a bit of a mix of things! I'll have an overview of stats, overall reflections on my first year of games, future plans and sneak peaks, and, get this, a poll of some current ideas I have, so you, my lovely blog readers can decide what game I write next, so stay tuned till the end of the post for that!

Reflections

Gosh, where do I even start! I think one of the best things this little venture into ttrpg design has given me is community! From the unofficial Wanderhome discord server giving me my very first foray into ttrpg content with prompts for playbooks aaaages ago, to joining KiwiRPG, Aotearoa's collective of ttrpg designers, to the Creekside Community Center, which is the full of the most lovely welcoming cool people (I mostly lurk but when I do post, everyone is so kind?!), to my little tumblr ttrpg design circle. People being excited about my games with me is delightful!!!

I could mention boring things like formatting, layout, graphic design, font, software, art, and more, but eh.

Instead I'll mention the sheer innovation present in indie ttrpgs. I've seen some of the most creative, genius, well-crafted content in my entire life within indie ttrpgs spaces, and sometimes they have 2 comments and have the worst formatting you've ever seen, or are just on a google doc.

Instead I'll mention that way that the community enfolds beginners and people who need assurance.

The themes that I've explored in my ttrpg design, many of which I am not yet ready to explore directly, instead needing the distance but also closeness of the lense of ttrpgs.

Community is such a key part of ttrpg design, at least to me, and I feel so held by these communities. Thank you to every person who's interacted with my games, whether by playing, rbing, liking, or even just looking at them. If you've left a review, or a comment, or an emoji reaction on a discord promo message I wrote, ngā mihi nunui.

I hope, in the next year, I can make more games about being Māori. About being takatāpui. About being queer. About hope. About determination. About endurance. About love. About community care. And yes, about wetlands.

first of all

why would yall ever think atsushi would kill ueda bfr. it mever suited his chara and this was 100% gonna happen. i love the visuals of not just the rope being cut but the dimension itself too in later panels tho i do wonder how atsushi even did allat lol. and ueda looks so cutee i love them.

anws this was gay as hell. i loved the way they showed atsushi glimpsing into the real world like YES thats sick as hell. and also YES- use your newfound space-time powers to save your bf! amd aku looks so lost on how atsushi just- manifested lmaoo.

also that ruined me. not fukuchis soul being put to rest wtf. and the way ueda called the sword(?) their son- the look on their face???

finally. the end. NOT. I DONT TRUST THIS. not only have we not gotten to the "just us two?" svene, theres something so ominous abt ueda and why tf did they just- collapse???? it was too easy. too perfect. at least aku got his arm back tho- also someone pointed out similarities between ueda and fukuzawa so its haunting me now. the stabbing "fukuchi" through the back, the clothes, the fall. GONE.

also. once again. no suegiku spotted 💔 not even ANY hunting dog besides fukuchi. in fact- where is literally any of the rest of the cast

I love your art sososo much, and I would see it on my dash on occasion (it brought me happiness, but I never really kept up with the account, and I honestly high-key regret it), so when I saw your alt cast art, I remembered rbing the Kyōkenji x Inokana sketch you drew a while back, but I had no idea it was associated with an entire au!! I was estatic since I love the au concept, and I love both ships so much!!

Then, trust me, I was innocently scrolling through the tag when I came across rengokunikida... This man has no right being so jdbdjdbd

My thoughts immediately went to Murata when I saw TecchōGiyū, like yes he's such a pretty man, but my brain really likes to digress from the main point lmao.

Urokodaki as Fukuchi feels a little weird, but it's accurate dynamic-wise with Teruko, and Tachihara. What is Jōnō's relationship with Fukuchi in this au anyway?? It could go in so many directions I'm curious djehdhbd

the kny-ified bsd au was and still is an au project i want to keep working on!! i have a looong list of the full cast, it's just that i always get side quests and wanting to draw OTHER things and getting into OTHER new medias i wanna draw and yeah that's why it's taken years for me to complete anything orz (i have plenty of files of the au that i never posted because they're all unfinished or uncolored and i thought i won't do my au justice if none of them were colored yk?)

i'm not an inokana fan myself but i'd love to hear your take on them! i just wanted to draw kyokenji at that time ehehe

i will always say that rengokunikida was def not my idea. it was an idea from a bsd friend! they even explained to me how it could work and i never looked back

-Gonna try to go easy on the RBing @nitpickrider's stuffs tonight cuz it's late and I don't wanna spend all night on that instead of other stuff. But we'll see.

-Anyone remember Captain Simian and the Space Monkeys? At the time I watched it as a kid, I didn't notice that the VA was doing a Captain Kirk impression. The funny thing? Said VA was MARK HAMILL. So, we have an actor famous for being an iconic space hero playing a space hero but doing an impression of a completely different space hero! I'm trying to remember what voice he did for the Commander Toad TV Special, the VHS of which I got out of the library multiple times in my teens, in which he played the title character; ironically it had a character who's name was a riff on Luke Skywalker, who was the only member of the cast who wasn't a puppet and thus was not played by Hamill.

-Just read Full Moon by P.G. Wodehouse, a Blandings Castle novel. Burst out laughing twice. Both of these were bits where Gally is deriding his brother's intelligence, wonder what that says about me?

-Am currently reading Monsters, Aliens, and Holes in the Ground: A Guide to Tabletop Roleplaying Games from D&D to Mothership by Stu Horvath, found around these parts @vintagerpg. Y'all should check it out, is great.

-I am almost halfway through The Savage World of Flash Gordon...though given the poor reception to my last poll, maybe I should just...pick something myself instead of doing another one? Not sure. Do you guys enjoy those or are they annoying?
