Hey, i hope you've recovered from your current illness.

If you don't mind me using the previous ask game then I'd like to ask 1, 2, 3, 7, 8 and 23 for Rodrigue.

very late to respond to this ask but YES im feeling better and ready to talk abt my man rodrigue :3

1. Why do you like or dislike this character?

i like rodrigue for the same reason that i like the other parents that we meet in this game: the fact that he gives insights to why his kid is Like That, and also because he's one of many characters that reinforces the culture of self-sacrifice that haunts p much every character from faerghus. also bc he’s hot

2. Favorite canon thing about this character?

the fact that he’s trying!!! obviously all of the parents in 3H are doing their best, none of them are purposefully trying to fuck up their kids. but rodrigue is really really trying his best to rebuild his relationship with felix, and his support chain with him is one of my favorites in the franchise. the fact that he and felix apologize to each other eventually and start to heal is so so precious to me and i love it so so so so so much.

3. Least favorite canon thing about this character?

the fact that he passed the dukedom down to felix when he was fucking 17 for literally?????? no reason?????? like bro. rodrigue. roddy. WHY DID YOU DO THAT!!!!!! and then he spent every support conversation talkin abt some “my son could learn a lot from you” YOUR SON IS AUTISTIC AND WANTS TO STUDY THE BLADE!!!!!!!! i appreciate the character arc that felix has with needing to learn diplomacy and dealing with being surrounded by this culture of knighthood that he hates. but rodrigue very well could’ve been duke AND helped with the duscur reparations i feel like

7. What's something the fandom does when it comes to this character that you like?

sexualize him. i love dilfs. that man is so fine. shoutout to the artists who draw him hot. i recently had to reconcile the fact that i would rather get down with rodrigue than with his son (who is in my age range) and a not insignificant amount of the reason is all the great fanart

8. What's something the fandom does when it comes to this character that you despise?

mmmmm i’m gonna say dumb him down. i feel like there’s a trap that a lot of people in the fandom fall into where they excessively demonize the characters’ parents, ESPECIALLY faerghus ones. rodrigue was by no means a good father to felix but i think a lot of malice is attributed to his actions that just isn’t there. he wants what’s best for his son and he’s just getting it wrong

I've working on more of my long fic This time, for sure which has been consuming my thoughts for the last long while.

Quick re-cap: Time travel happened (as you do); Cloud and Sephiroth finally met up (after traveling and being unaware of the other) in the Nibel Reactor last chapter and this ended up being fun for neither of them. Sephiroth got hit with a turn of fate which he's woefully unprepared for; Cloud is trying to keep things from going Horribly wrong.

Here's the opening for chapter 6 (wip title: "Manor"):

Blizzard winds and snow pelted the side of the mountain as Cloud followed Sephiroth out into the cold. Lightning arched in the sky within the billowing gloom. He could feel the constant bedlam of Sephiroth’s rage-filled thoughts pressing on his mind, and he held little interest in poking at the bond any further to receive the full brunt of it. The monster’s left hand twitched. It curled and uncurled like he was thinking of summoning Masamune and turning the reactor to ribbons. Or making good on his threats and burning Cloud alive. Cloud’s own rage had been masked by fear. His eyes darted to where he knew Nibelheim sat at the bottom of the mountain. The gales whipped Sephiroth’s hair and coat into a tangle of silver and black. He almost faded into the storm. But the bond pulled and entangled Cloud to where he couldn’t lose Sephiroth even if he tried.
