23. Describe the physical environment in which you write. Be as detailed as possible. Tell me what’s around you as you work. Paint me a picture.

Ahahah I mentioned in the previous answer that I write a lot when I'm on the bus to work, but when I edit I normally do it in bed. It's a white metal-framed bed with a stack of multicoloured pillows and two duvets, wedged in between the window and the chimney breast. The walls are white and the wallpaper is peeling at the top. There is a large roughly-made shelf above the bed piled haphazardly with second hand paperbacks and nicknacks. Hanging from the underside of the shelf is a victorian green glass lantern and some leaf-shaped fairy lights, a wooden sword and a sequined moon-shaped Christmas decoration. On the wall there is a Vincent van gough poster, free from an art fair, and a couple of postcards and Polaroids. Mostly art, but one is of stone henge and another is a recreation of the birth of Venus but with frogs instead of people. At the foot of the bed hangs a green fabric banner with "It's cool to care" appliquéd across it in glittery fabric. I really like my bed-space.

Well I think that's probably because:

1- I have been attacked by dogs before. By my own dog. By other people's dogs. It's scary. It's painful. And it's dangerous. After all, a 40lb dog that's truly dedicated to the task can kill a grown man. Smaller dogs have killed smaller people. I genuinely feared for my life when Skoll attacked me. He was 90lbs and I at the time was 160. If he wanted to, he could have overpowered and pulled me to the ground and killed me. As we stared at each other with my hand partially down his throat, my main concern was where he'd rebite and whether I could protect my head and neck if he launched himself upwards.

2- As said in the post prior to my career change I specialized in aggression. I have worked with a lot of aggressive dogs and some are dogs who are just doing what their genetics tell them they should be doing. Others are dogs who have been failed somehow. Regardless the majority of them were put into incredibly stupid and risky situations and now have an explosive reaction at best to their triggers. My job was taking those dogs and making them less Like That.

3- I play Dog Attack Simulator aka bitesports in my spare time when I have a dog suited to the task. There is no better place for me and my dogs than on the training field at club teaching my dog to bite a man covered from the neck down in several layers of padding. I like having dogs that bite and I like teaching them to use their teeth to solve some of their problems. That means I have to be cognizant of the fact that my dogs have the knowledge that teeth sometimes are the correct answer, and I can't put them in stupid situations because then they may guess incorrectly when presented with the question of "is this a problem I should solve by Biting The Fuck Out Of You"
