LENNOX: Happy Birthday.

FIGARO: Thanks. Another round of celebration definitely puts me in a happy mood.

I see you’ve prepared some glassware. So, I take it I’m allowed to drink tonight?

RUTILE & MITILE & AKIRA: Pfft…

FIGARO: Wait, what’s going on? Why are you all grinning? Aren’t you going to scold me, Mitile?

MITILE: I’ll make an exception for your special day! But please keep it in moderation, or you might have to listen to me nag a bit after all.

RUTILE: First on our list: we got you something for your birthday! Right, Mr. Leno?

LENNOX: That’s right. We made a splurge on this liquor for tonight’s celebration.

FIGARO: A cobalt blue bottle… Damn, this is some top-shelf stuff. And on the label is an artwork of us Southern wizards and Master Sage, drawn by Rutile.

RUTILE: Sharp eye, Dr. Figaro! You got it!

AKIRA: Lennox picked out the liquor, and the label design was a team effort between the three of us.

MITILE: After a bit of brainstorming, we figured this way you could keep the empty bottle as a keepsake to remember this day!

FIGARO: Oh, you four… You put a ton of thought and effort into this gift and it shows.

I know I’m repeating myself, but thank you. I’ll be sure to savor each sip.

RUTILE & MITILE: Score!

LENNOX: The pleasure is ours. But that's not the only gift we have in store for you.

AKIRA: We made this other one ourselves. Ta-da!

FIGARO: Is that… a picture book?

MITILE: It is! I was in charge of the lettering.

RUTILE: I drew the illustrations!

AKIRA: And I helped color the pages. It’s a special picture book just for you!

MITILE: Dr. Figaro, do you remember the tale of the magical deer you shared in one of our past slumber parties? Well, we tried imagining the continuation of its story and turned that into a picture book.

FIGARO: Magical deer… You mean the one who lost its village to a flood?

RUTILE: That’s the one: the deer who loved and was loved in kind by its villagers.

Figaro once shared an ancient tale about a deer that had been nurtured with such great care and worshipped as the patron god of a certain village; that was, until a catastrophic flood struck the village that left the magical deer as the sole survivor.

LENNOX: Although not much, I made some contribution myself. They based the picture book on the reinterpretation I suggested last time: that maybe the magical deer built and now lives in a new sturdy village that can withstand floods.

FIGARO: …Mhm.

Figaro, appearing to be deep in contemplation, wordlessly accepted the picture book. As he traced the cover with his fingers, Mitile made a heartfelt offer.

MITILE: Would it be okay if Brother and I read the story aloud for you?

RUTILE: We’ll put our hearts into it—the Flores Storytellers at your service!

FIGARO: …Please do. I’d love that.

A Brand New Morning With Figaro ~Slumber Party With the Southern Wizards~ Episode 2

MITILE: Once upon a time, there lived a deer possessing mysterious powers.

Having lost its home, the deer turned to a long and winding road of wandering—one accompanied by the grief of the passing of its villagers, as well as the yearning for a place resembling home.

RUTILE: This period of its life had been marked by encounters with people from all walks of life and journeys to all kinds of places.

And then came a day when the deer decided to build a new abode for itself. This time, it was to be a sturdy village that could withstand floods.

FIGARO & LENNOX: …

We all leaned in for a better view of the picture book, listening intently to their storytelling.

The deer reunites with an old friend in the new village. Together with their community, they spend their days working as one and supporting each other, though not without the occasional disagreements.

Rutile’s and Mitile’s voices emitted a gentle, all-enveloping warmth as they narrated how the deer lived its life with resilience within the picture book.

MITILE: For the deer, protecting its village had always been a solitary undertaking—but not anymore, as it now lives happily among its people. Here, in this haven of solace, the deer rediscovers giving and receiving love.

AKIRA: Did you notice how the story didn’t conclude with a “The End” note? That’s because the deer’s story is far from finished.

LENNOX: What an uplifting story. In the course of many encounters and a tapestry of journeys, the deer finally found a restful place to settle down.

The scars of bereavement will never fade, yes, but the warm and gentle days ahead of it will surely serve as a balm for its soul.

For my part, I hope the deer claims that happiness for itself without ever letting go, and that it learns to cherish itself.

FIGARO: Haha. Good point.

…Tell me about it…

Figaro falls silent after that one remark, then casts his gaze down on the picture book again.

RUTILE & MITILE: Dr. Figaro?

FIGARO: My bad, my bad. It's such a rosy, ideally perfect story, it left me at a loss for words.

I’m quite taken by the part where the deer and its community worked as one and supported each other.

RUTILE: Glad to hear it! A collective effort is a must to achieve a village that can withstand floods.

MITILE: We much preferred to envision that the deer, rather than handling everything on its own, now protects the new village with the help of the entire community. That’s why we wrote the story in this manner.

By the way, Master Sage was the one who wrapped up the last bit.

FIGARO: You did?

AKIRA: Yes, specifically the part about the deer rediscovering how to give and receive love. That was my suggestion.

I like to think that the late villagers appreciated the deer for its love and protection. So I wanted to emphasize that it had the love of many people, past and present…

FIGARO: That does sound like something you’d come up with.

Figaro flashes an ever so gentle smile, then shuts the book close as if to tuck away my words with it.

FIGARO: Thanks for putting together this wonderful picture book; it’s going straight into my collection.

While we’re at it, I could go for another round of storytelling. All while thoroughly enjoying this liquor you prepared for me, yeah?

AKIRA & RUTILE & MITILE: Gladly!

LENNOX: Well, the night is young. Let me pour you a drink.

The next morning, my eyes were greeted by a scenery different from　what I typically wake up to.

AKIRA: (…Huh? Where am I…)

FIGARO: Ah, I see you’ve woken up.

AKIRA: Figaro…? Aah!

I sat bolt up when I locked eyes with Figaro, who was sitting on the edge of his bed.

The traces of last night’s party left on his desk might suggest otherwise, but the sun has already made itself known.

AKIRA: Oh gosh! I totally passed out, didn’t I?! I’m so sorry for stealing your bed…

FIGARO: Don’t worry about it. I’m just glad you seemed to have slept soundly.

Last night had been wonderful—especially with the perfect all-nighter companion right here.

AKIRA: Oh, isn’t that…

FIGARO: The picture book you penned for me, yep. I'd just finished re-reading it.

Despite losing everything, the deer found its way to a new home with a supportive community; such a heartwarming story if I ever saw one. I can only imagine how happy a life the deer in the story must have led upon its arrival in utopia.

AKIRA: Figaro…

I got up and gingerly took a seat next to him.

AKIRA: Something tells me the deer revels in happiness even as we speak.

I assume it struggled with various inner conflicts during the course of its wandering, in search of traces of its original home…

But now that the deer has found a warm and loving community, for all we know, maybe it has learned to lean on others, right? That includes asking for and accepting affection, even if once in a while.

FIGARO: You think so?

AKIRA: Just my take… I can see how being surrounded by a safe environment and a support system—especially after facing many great challenges—might make you consider you owe that to yourself.

FIGARO: Interesting. In that case, maybe I’ll use my birthday as an excuse to ask for a little shower of affection from you.

AKIRA: Huh?!

FIGARO: Oh. Is that a no?

AKIRA: I-I didn’t mean it that way! If anything, hearing that from you brings me joy…

Any request is welcome, Figaro. Don't hold back!

FIGARO: Ah, now we’re talking. Let’s hear you say, “Figaro, I love you! Live long and healthy, okay?”

AKIRA: Figaro, I love you! Live long and healthy, okay!

Aaand…

FIGARO: Hm?

AKIRA: May your life ahead overflow with blessings. Happy Birthday!

I conveyed my thoughts as they came to me.

Figaro blinked in surprise, looking a tad younger when he then laughed. His slightly untamed bed hair shook with mirth.

FIGARO: You’re very kind, Master Sage. That little adjustment you added proved to be a pleasant surprise.

I wish you the same: please live a long, healthy life. Here’s to a lasting bond.

A gentle breeze streams through the slightly opened window, flipping the pages of the picture book. Within the story, the deer beams with happiness.

AKIRA: Figaro, do you have a routine you follow every morning?

FIGARO: Routine, huh… Not at the moment, no. It’s one of those things that never stay constant over the course of a long life, you see.

What about you, Master Sage?

AKIRA: Me? Let me think...

I wash my face, brush my teeth… Other than the essentials, I guess nothing else comes to mind.

I lowkey would love to establish a morning routine for myself, though. Having one spells a healthy and productive lifestyle, don’t you think?

FIGARO: In that case, would you like to start something with me?

AKIRA: Oh, you sure?

FIGARO: I don’t see why not. When it comes to making a habit stick, doing it with company might just do the trick—with you, especially.

Where’s a good place to start? Any go-to options?

AKIRA: Hmm… How about stretching? In my world, people make it a habit to start their morning with calisthenics.

I know waking up early can be a real struggle, but morning exercise leaves you energized for the day.

FIGARO: Starting your day bright and early to exercise…

AKIRA: O-Oh, no. You don’t sound too excited there.

FIGARO: It’s not that I’m having second thoughts; I was hoping we could start small, you know?

Say, a morning tea ritual. Nothing formal, no set time. We both wake up whenever we want, get ourselves ready for the day, then meet up when we can for some tea paired with a light meal.

AKIRA: I like that! Plus it doesn’t seem that hard to commit to.

Oh, wait. That’s starting to sound like a regular breakfast for two to me…

FIGARO: Oops, haha! Was I too obvious?

Hello! I'm grateful to those who follow me so far thank you very much, I hope to make my blog a bit more interesting!

For this very short series, I will be posting on the deities I mostly worship, which are Lady Athena and Lady Aphrodite. You can also consider this list based on upg associations, and I hope you enjoy reading this. I also dedicate this post to specifically Lady Athena.

☀️🌷 Florida Water

I see a lot of witches, more so the new ones, get confused as to what Florida Water is and if it's water from the beaches of the state, Florida. I can assure you, you do not have to travel all the way to Florida and fight crocodiles to get some water.

What is Florida Water?

Florida Water came into the world in the start of the 19th century as a cologne for both women and men. It was a highly popular cologne in the late 19th century for it's rich and strong smell. It has a light flora scent with citrus overtones.

It became synonymes with spirituality when African-Americans in the Hoodoo sphere used it as a powerful spiritual cleanser, and because of it's pleasant smell, was also associated with appeasing the dead.

Generally, Florida Water is a spiritual cleanser, protective agent, and draws in luck, fantastic energy, and happiness.

Why is it called Florida Water?

Well, the word "Florida" is actually a Spanish word. Which roughly translates* to "Flower" or "Abundance of flowers" or "Flowery". Another way of saying Florida Water, in Spanish, is "Agua de flores".

How Do you make Florida Water?

Florida Water is still sold commercially with it's original formula from the 19th century, however, you can still make your own Florida Water at home. Recipes often change but have similar overlaps. Here's some ingredients to consider when making it, there's no need to use all of them, but it's always good to use most.

Citrus fruits -- Lemon, orange, grapefruit, lime.

Herbs and Flowers -- Rose, lavender, rosemary, mint, calendula, sage, thyme, jasmine, bergamot, violet, chamomile, basil. lemon balm, eucalyptus.

Spices -- Cloves, cinnamon sticks, allspice berries, anise.

An alcohol like Vodka** and distilled water.

Place ingredients into a large jar with a tight lid. Fill it half with vodka and then half with distilled water. Let it sit in a dark place, shaking it often, for at least 2 weeks to up to a month (you could make it during the new moon and complete it during the full moon). Then strain it using a sive and cloth and place into an airtight bottle.

The mixture should last you 6 months, keep out of direct sunlight, it's a good idea to write down when you made it and what ingredients it contains on a piece of paper and stick it to bottom of the bottle.

You may add essential oils to it as well or only use essential oils of the ingredients. You may also use fresh or dried ingredients. I prefer fresh. I also recommend using organic, so make sure your roses are not sprayed with pesticides and such.

Where do I use it?

Cleansing a space, yourself as a bodyspray, in rituals, to cleanse objects and charge them, offerings, warding off bad luck, to a bath, to be rid of bugs, your laundry, floor wash, to shine your iron tools, etc. Get creative!

(* Please note, Spanish is not my native language nor a language I study, takes these translations with a grain of salt.)

(** You may use grain alcohol as well, but do not use common household alcohol.)

My personal mix includes lemon, orange, lime, rose petals, mint leaves, rosemary, lavender, thyme, cinnamon sticks, garden sage, and mugwort. As well as vodka and distilled water.

With this third installment in our Queer Fanworks Inspired By… anthology series, we set out to explore the truth by which we at Duck Prints Press live: that a classic work without a single canonically queer character must be in want of a very LGBTQIA+ makeover! A Truth Universally Acknowledged: Queer Fanworks Inspired by Jane Austen’s Pride and Prejudice, with 21 short stories and 20 full-page color artworks, is just that. 38 creators have contributed to this project, drawing inspiration from Pride and Prejudice’s characters and story to create delightful, thoughtful, intriguing, and (of course) very queer fanworks and Pride and Prejudice-inspired original works. For this collection, we encouraged our creators to focus on Sapphic/wlw relationships and/or transgender and genderqueer interpretations for their inspiration, though those are definitely not the only types of queer we’ve fit into this diverse collection.

Human radiator

Fandom: Elena of Avalor

Characters: Gabriel Nuñez, Naomi Turner, Elena Castillo Flores, Mateo de Alva

Relationships: all four of them being best friends

Prompt: @flufftober - day 17 Only One Bed (kinda)

Word count: 427

Other: Fluff, Oneshot, Cuddling, Implied camping trip or something, platonic bed sharing, post canon, no context, Gabe's POV mostly because is anybody really surprised at this point

"Alright, so it looks..." Gabe brushed off his hands and paused.

"... actually not bad," Elena supplemented him with the right words.

"Yeah." He nodded, assessing their makeshift shelter with a judgmental gaze.

"So we're finally done? Oh thank goodness." Naomi dramatically threw away a stick and not wasting a minute, crawled under the canopy of branches and vines.

Mateo didn't seem completely convinced of the stability of the old stone wall their lean-to was based on, but an impatient "Well! Aren't you coming?!" from Naomi seemed to be enough to lure him inside.

Gabe looked over to Elena.

"I can take the first watch."

"No way!" Her answer synchronised with Naomi's cry.

"Nuh uh mister "not taking a coat to Maarsvik" you're staying in here with the rest of us!"

Elena nodded sagely and ushered him to go before her.

"Don't worry, we're alone here anyway. And I doubt there's anything out here to get us except for maybe mosquitoes?"

"And I call dibs on using you as a pillow," Naomi added as he squeezed into the tight space they got to call home for the night.

"Alright, alright," Gabe chuckled, making himself comfortable on the dry leaves and moss mattress. They all huddled together into one big bundle of arms and legs and chests, seeking warmth and any semblance of comfort on the five square metres that they got to share. Finally a shared relaxed sigh filled their little abode. That's when Gabe decided to add:

"By the way, I snore."

The silence lost its bliss. It has gained however, a whole lot of weight from the silent threats cast at him by everyone's glares. Gabe couldn't see them of course, but he could feel it well in his heart that they were there.

"Not if I smother you in your sleep you won't," Mateo mumbled half asleep.

Gabe chuckled and the atmosphere went back to being cozy.

"Very funny, Mateo." He rolled his eyes even if he knew they wouldn't see it. "Cause it was a joke, right? Guys...?"

The only answer he got was even and quiet breathing all around him and suddenly he started wondering if maybe standing a watch alone outside wouldn't be that bad.

But then he thought about the dark and cold and wind waiting behind the thin walls of their little hut and felt the warmth and comfort coming from his friends even strongly. His eyelids began to drop and he decided that maybe getting murdered in his sleep is something... he can worry about... in the morning...

Author's note:

You do not realise how badly I wanted to call Gabe a human radiator in the fic itself but. I imagine radiators are not a thing in the EverRealm T_T However I firmly believe that Gabe would make for a fantastic pillow and my goal was to not make it creepy or horny by accident in the fic. It's just an objective and platonic truth ✊

Las libélulas comen de 30 a 100 mosquitos al día.

No sólo patrullan los cielos como adultos, sino que sus larvas también se alimentan de larvas de mosquitos en el agua, haciéndolas efectivas en la reducción de las poblaciones de mosquito en cada etapa.

En lugar de confiar en repelentes químicos, que pueden dañar el medio ambiente, atraer libélulas naturalmente con las plantas adecuadas es una alternativa sostenible y ecológica.

A) Plantas terrestres (atraer presas para libélulas)

- Susan de ojos negros (Rudbeckia hirta) - Estas flores silvestres amarillas brillantes atraen mariposas y otros polinizadores, proporcionando una fuente de alimento estable para las libélulas. Prosperan a pleno sol y se adaptan a varios tipos de suelo.

- Pantano lechero (Asclepias encarnata) - Una hermosa perenne con flores rosas y blancas que atraen mariposas, abejas y otros pequeños insectos. Crece mejor en zonas húmedas, humedales con mucho sol.

- Joe-Pye Weed (Eupatorium purpureum) - Una planta alta y fragante que produce flores rosadas-púrpuras, atrayendo numerosos polinizadores de los que a las libélulas les encanta alimentarse. Prospera en prados húmedos soleados o parcialmente sombreados.

- Meadow Sage (Salvia marcus) - Una sorprendente planta de flor púrpura que trae mariposas e insectos pequeños. Prefiere pleno sol, pero puede manejar la sombra parcial y es altamente resistente a la sequía.

- White Yarrow (Achillea millefolium) - Con sus grandes racimos planos de flores blancas cremosas, esta flor silvestre resistente atrae avispas parásitos y mariposas, por lo que es una adición perfecta a un jardín amigable con las libélulas.

B) Plantas de estanque/shoreline (proporcionar zonas de reproducción y descanso)

- Punta de flecha (Sagittaria latifolia) - Una planta de pantano con hojas en forma de flecha y delicadas flores blancas, perfecta para libélulas adultas en las que descansar. También sirve como un sitio para poner huevos para larvas de libélula.

- Celery silvestre (Vallisneria americana) - Una planta acuática sumergida que proporciona refugio a las larvas de libélula. Crece en aguas más profundas y ayuda a filtrar estanques, manteniendo los ecosistemas equilibrados.
