“why does the viper take soooo long being blighted it only took hours in dao” 🤓☝️ actually tamlen, a non-mage hunter from the fereldan woods, was semi-lucid as a ‘ghoul’ MONTHS after being infected and it’s almost like ashur is a powerful mage with knowledge of magic to slow the process and access to resources (including warden advice) to keep from transforming/dying as long as possible. who would’ve thought!

And even if you wanted to pretzel things around enough to where it makes sense that Katara actively 'got' bloodbending outlawed and that was her great political achievement--it is the epitome of an informed attribute, because we are told this kind of randomly in the text of the show, and then when it comes time to show the effects of her 'work' (because the use of illegal bloodbending is key to the villain's actions and motivations for the entire first season!), Katara is nowhere to be found!
She wasn't at the one trial we ever see where a bloodbender was arrested--her husband and her brother and Toph were, of course, as they were key players in the development of Republic City while Katara (who as far as we can tell had absolutely nothing to do with it or surely someone somewhere would've erected a statue in her honor) was home alone minding the babies--and she also could do nothing to reverse the damage done via bloodbending, which simply stood as yet another example of something even the great Master Healer Katara couldn't heal.
And that's the thing that adds insult to injury! Because Katara is allowed to be nothing but a healer, but she isn't even allowed to effectively be that! She can't restore the bending that Amon used bloodbending to take away (despite this flying in the face of everything we know about how bending is supposed to work), she can't save Jinora from being lost to the spirit world, she can't heal Korra's paralysis nor her psychological trauma (despite showing evidence of being to heal the mind back in AtLA)... she can't do much of anything! She doesn't heal a single significant injury the entire series--all the lipservice to her legendary healing prowess exists for is so that other characters can say 'wow, not even the legendary Master Katara could heal this', and then she gets stuck back in the healing huts at the South Pole.
Worf may have been the trope-namer, but even he got to throw down sometimes.
And then people wanna be like 'but Katara didn't want to fight anymore, she just wanted to raise her family, what's wrong with that!' and then ignore how Katara was left to be alone and lonely (except for her daughter, who of course was the one who gave up whatever else she was doing with her life to go back home and take care of her mother rather than either of her brothers) at the South Pole, when her children had grown and her youngest son had children of his own that were being raised far enough away that his five-year-old son had never met his grandmother.
And on top of that she wasn't even allowed to attend her own granddaughter's Air Master ceremony. Cause she just loved her family too damn much to allow those old b ones of hers to be bestirred, I guess. (The real reason is that Bryke were petty dicks and didn't want to allow Zuko and Katara to ever share screentime, but that's beside the point.)
It just makes me incredibly sad, both what was done to Katara and her legacy in LoK, and the lengths some people in this fandom will go to so they can bend over backwards to find reasons that excuse it.
The weakest argument of people who defend Katara's treatment in LOK is that she got bloodbending outlawed.
Katara held no political position. She didn't outlaw bloodbending, Sokka and Aang- her brother and husband, who made up 2/5 of the council members- outlawed bloodbending. It might have been her opinion that encouraged them to do so, but it wasn't her that implemented the law.
This is entirely representative of the issue you lot try your best to excuse or ignore. LOK took away Katara's voice, power, and autonomy. She wasn't allowed to hold a position of power or authority. She wasn't allowed to be impactful or recognized at the same level as her friends.
She was only allowed to be a healer. And by only allowing her to be a healer, LOK forces the misogyny that Katara fought against back onto her. And not only on her, on her daughter specifically. Toph and Zuko's daughters are allowed to be fighters and/or leaders. Kya coincidentally "chose" to be a healer. Yet both her brothers are fighters and leaders.
You don't see a problem there?

You cannot talk about the genre conventions of romance novels and then try to abstractly talk about Romance as a Concept (John and Aeryn's relationship is tertiary to the sci fi adventure and everything else going on, Farscape is not a romance!) and act like they are the same thing and everyone else is stupid for disagreeing with you.
A Walk to Remember follows the typical romance genre conventions (and every time I've seen it at the book store, it has been shelved in the Romance section), where the romantic relationship between the leads is the central focus, and it has an overall optimistic ending about their love, despite the female lead's death (which, yes, the characters knew was coming, but the entire book was not actually about death and dying, it was about finding love and hope for the future despite that.)
And at that, I mentioned it as an edge case.
But if you're going to be conflating Romance the Genre with romance as a concept that can include adventure movies and sci-fi shows that aren't remotely romances (The Mummy and The Jungle Book are both action-adventure movies centering on men, so????), then a) Nicholas Sparks absolutely counts as a romance author bc all he writes is romances (that is, stories centered on romantic relationships), and b) I genuinely believe you haven't the foggiest idea what you're actually talking about.
I mean, gay dudes not being into gay romance written by womans is kinda the same vibe as straight men not liking hetromance by womens. Women like one way of romance, dudes like another, ain't nothing wrong with it, and nothing wrong with not liking it. Bet it's the same for dudes writing lesbian romance where lesbians not like it, or het romance and het women not liking that.
--
Yeah, I find a lot of dude-written f/f hot but unintentionally hilarious. That's just how it goes when you're hanging with different crowds who consume different media and have different influences.

I've been scrolling through your OUAT posts, and I had a thought triggered by:

That being: the writers knew what they were doing with Rumplestiltskin, because they literally had Dark!Hook spell it out. They just weren't willing to commit to either redeeming him or treating him as irredeemable.
Hook: Ah! There’s the Rumplestiltskin we all know and love! That's why Belle's left you, hasn't she? She knows just what kind of man you really are.
Gold: And what kind is it?
Hook: (Smiling cruelly) The kind that loves his power more than anything. More than her. More than your dead son.
Yeah, that's honestly the biggest issue with the handling of Rumplestiltskin and the Evil Queen--the show really wanted to have their cake and eat it too, because both actors were so fantastic at playing villains and chewing up the scenery and also being emotional and angsty and everything else. But the fact is that you can't just keep these two great evils in your back pocket for whenever you need a wrench thrown into the works and also expect to be able to redeem them and give them happy endings that feel narratively satisfying and earned, because at some point you have to actually allow them to develop as people, as fully-rounded characters not just plot devices.
Some amount of backsliding and nonlinear progression is expected of course, because people who've done so much bad and spent so much of their existences grappling for power and deriving enjoyment from the pain they inflict aren't going to be able to just turn into good people on a dime, and some of those instincts will keep them going back to tried and true methods before ultimately being able to move past them. We see this with Killian, who makes a series of selfish choices and is focused on revenge to the exclusion of all else until he is finally forced to confront the possibility that there are things in this life that might matter more to him, and even after he is redeemed and committed not only to Emma but to being a better man, he doesn't expect immediate acceptance or forgiveness from the people he's hurt in the past.
Rumplestiltskin's handling in particular is so aggravating because the show is happy enough to lampshade the fact that he is evil to his core and will always choose power no matter how many chances he is given by literally everyone around him but most especially Belle, and then we're still supposed to just accept that one day when he says he changed he finally actually means it and he's good now and here's his happy ending with his wife he spent their entire relationship on the show abusing and gaslighting?
It's exactly as you said, they refused to commit either to redemption or to him just being evil and I have to suspect part of that was because he was originally meant to be the series-end big bad, possibly along with Regina, and they just didn't have the guts to face the reactions of shippers when it finally got to the last season so they had to pull happy endings out of thin air because they hadn't actually bothered to set up a story where those endings would naturally flow from everything that'd come before.
But Regina being rewarded for everything she'd done in the show by being made the Good Queen over everyone was a slap in the face I'll tell you what. Like what do you mean. What the fuck do you MEAN. Why is this woman's happy ending to be given absolute power over people she'd brutally terrorized for her entire reign prior to the curses she kept setting in motion? In what world does giving her more power and forcing the whole populace to adore her for no reason make even a lick of sense? Ugh. I'm still so mad.

i could honestly rant about tall people issues forever but quite frankly the reason the big majority of my fem oc's are tall is because there's literally so very scarce representation for us.
i cannot name any media where the main fem character that everyone fawns over is tall. none.
so it's basically that i make the representation myself because no one else will

I'm glad to see that the general consensus of the fandom now is that thw sucks. Because back in 2019 everyone fucking loved it and I was left feeling like the only one who thought it was the worst movie I've ever seen.
