15) How long did it take for your OC to accept themselves? What factors played into it?

Shi: Yuu Shi is a cis, pansexual woman. She accepted this back in her earlier years- it is now something of her past that she looks back fondly on. She had never particularly cared much about the perception of others in this regard or worried about any judgement from family. She just sorta dated around, did a bit of research about how she felt, and found a comfortable label. It wasn't too long that she began dating Salem and entered her first official relationship.

Jocia: The other twin, however- wasn't as clean cut. She just sorta assumed she was straight for a long while given she had a long term relationship with a boyfriend (which didn't work out in the end) followed by a long list of things she needed to do to care for the rest of her family. She didn't really have the time to think about it, and when she did, she was just sorta... confused. She couldn't quite place her feelings. The more she learned about herself, the more she felt comfortable with having a label to aid in identifying herself, but purposefully keeping it vague in order to allow her more grace to continue to learn about herself even more, hence bicurious.

Aurelia: Aurelia never cared about her gender, period. Given she was assigned female at birth, people almost always used she/her pronouns to describe her- and she was and still is completely fine with that. It feels comfortable for who she is and wants to be. More specifically, Aurelia is "greygender." Her attachment to gender as a concept is weak at best. People call her she, she's cool with that. People may call her by other pronouns, they don't particularly sit right with her, but she does not correct them. People call her Ms., Mr., or Mx., and she does not care. She never has, and she has never hidden this fact. It also greatly helped that as soon as her parents recognized this, they were highly and wholly supportive <3 A similar mindset came in figuring out her sexual/romantic/wtv orientation.

Ezra: Ezra is a bit more of a complicated case- he's been around for a long time. He grew up with humans, who seem to take things so much faster than he does- leading to lots of confusion. He was also highly sheltered in his own right. He'd never had much experience in the dating scene or in understanding romantic feelings. Due to this, once he had the right words to describe it, he was under the impression that he was aroace for quite some time. However he now fully knows and believes that was 100% the incorrect label for himself as he finally moved out of his home village and discovered different types of individuals/people he began to ADORE outside of a more platonic sphere. Gay. Gay gay gay. And very "late" in finding out- he only found the label that fit him three years ago.

Joel: Joel does not give a fuck. He never really cared too much about labels, but I can definitely see something happening like, "bro are you aroace?" and him just being like "yeah sure whatever." He's never had any romantic or sexual attraction to anyone, period. As a teen, this left them feeling slightly isolated compared to their peers, but the joys of being a bastard man far outweighed that and took his focus. He knows where his joy lies: in getting rich and finding cool treasure and maybe sharing those things with his students like a dad sharing a cool trinket with his kid but he'd NEVER admit that out loud. They would not be happy in a romantic relationship.

Creek: Creek is another case where they've been around for a long, long time. Unlike Ezra, however, they have a similar mindset to Aurelia. They felt highly confined by most of the gender binary and by their assigned gender- though they always knew who they were even when they did not have the terminology to refer to it. As soon as the language was found, it knew exactly how it wanted to be referred to. It wasn't until it was revived in its present state that they were finally able to represent themselves visually as they desired. While they always knew themselves, this is what finally brought them the most joy regarding their identity.

Isola: Isola is still in the process of discovering her identity in her active story rather than it being a part of her past. While she currently identifies wholly as a woman, she will later come to realize she is actually a demiwoman. After living in a highly objectified state for so long- quite literally a puppet for shows and something to simply be admired, like a statue- she internally feels less and less attachment to simply being known as a woman, partially because of this prejudiced view of "femininity" by others and partially because being referred to solely as a woman just never quite feels right (as well as many other reasons- she likes looking feminine, its the spite for being treated as she was pushing her to care more for herself and find herself that leads to her realization of her true identity)

^(I feel I should mention this is highly inspired by my partners, a demiwoman, relationship with her gender <3 she made a whole project in uni about the "death of womanhood" and i rly loved it a lottt)

Gustafa is literally the perfect man and it is criminal how underrated he is by HM/SoS fans. He’s literally so gentle and sweet and not only takes on being his child’s primary caregiver, but is shown to fully embrace his wife’s ambitions by joining in with his own marriage-animations-routine (since the spouses all just Only Exist on the property regardless of who you marry and the gender version.)

All he asks for in return is for his wife to reassure him that she loves him, as he’s self-aware enough to realize that she had “more attractive men” in the village to choose to marry instead and produce a child with to keep her inheritance.

And yet she chose HIM.
