Yandere Landlord x Reader
Tumblr media
You move to New York because you have no reason to stay anywhere else.
After the breakup—after him—there was no home left. The apartment in Chicago had grown cold, not just in winter, but in the way it echoed with silence even when you were still living there. So, when the hospital called with a residency offer, you packed fast and drove faster, your old car chugging like it resented the weight of your regret.
You arrive in Brooklyn with three suitcases, a secondhand coffee maker, and too many scars to count. Internally. Externally, you’ve always passed for composed, professional. Polished even, when you put in the effort. People don’t see what you don’t let them.
The apartment is perfect. Too perfect. That’s the first red flag, but you don’t want to see it. The rent is suspiciously affordable. Hardwood floors. High ceilings. An antique clawfoot tub. When you visit the unit, sunlight pours in like a promise. You pause at the window, tracing the skyline in your mind like you’re sketching a new future.
The landlord is handsome in that quiet, overlooked kind of way. He introduces himself as Andy, says he inherited the building from his grandfather. Says he’s doing some renovations—you’ll hear some noise now and then, hope that’s not a dealbreaker. He smiles like he’s nervous. Like he isn’t used to people looking directly at him.
You don’t ask too many questions. The building feels safe. Andy feels harmless. You’re tired of running.
So you sign the lease.
You don’t notice the way he watches you. Not at first.
The first few weeks are a blur of hospital rotations and late-night subway rides. You’re barely home long enough to unpack. When you do sleep, it’s dreamless, like your mind’s been rinsed clean by exhaustion. You only vaguely remember Andy helping you carry your boxes upstairs, his fingers brushing yours when he handed over the keys. You’d thanked him. Smiled.
Sometimes you hear footsteps in the hallway at odd hours. A whisper of movement. But you tell yourself it’s just another tenant. You haven’t met your neighbors yet. You don’t plan to.
The first time something feels off is when you find your toothbrush slightly damp at 7 p.m. You haven’t used it since morning. You think maybe you’re being paranoid. Then your shampoo is in a different spot. Your towels are folded differently. The window in the bathroom is open when you never open it.
You change the locks.
Andy drops by with a bottle of wine a few days later. Says it’s a welcome gift. You accept it awkwardly, standing half-behind your door. You never drink it.
That night, you hear a thud inside the walls. You tell yourself it’s the pipes. Old buildings do that.
You feel eyes on you when you sleep.
You can’t explain it. It’s like your body knows something before your mind can catch up. You start waking up in cold sweats. You start locking your bedroom door. You stop using the bathtub.
Then one night, you wake up to the sound of breathing.
Not your own.
You freeze, heart pounding. You listen. It’s faint, ragged. Almost desperate. You flick on the light.
Nothing.
You check every room. You look under the bed, in the closet, behind the shower curtain. You find nothing but shadows. Still, you feel it. Someone has been in here.
You go to Andy the next day. You try to be casual, but your voice trembles. You ask if there’s any chance someone has access to your apartment. He frowns, concerned. Says he’ll change the locks personally. Says he’ll install extra security. Says it with the same calm voice a doctor might use before slipping in a needle.
You almost believe him.
Then you find the camera.
It’s hidden behind the vent in your bedroom. You only see it because the grate is slightly ajar. Tiny. Barely noticeable. You wouldn’t have noticed it at all if the wind hadn’t shifted the angle of light on the wall.
You don’t scream. You sit there, your heart slowly collapsing in your chest. Your skin prickles with invisible hands. Every second you’ve ever spent in this apartment flashes through your mind—every moment alone, every private breath.
He’s been watching you.
You leave that night.
You get a hotel. You call the cops. You tell them everything.
But by the time they investigate, the camera’s gone. The vent is closed. The apartment is clean. No signs of forced entry. No fingerprints. Just you and your paranoia.
You try to stay at a friend’s, but you can’t stop looking over your shoulder. You can’t stop imagining him slipping into your room in the middle of the night. You start seeing Andy’s face in crowds. In reflections. In your sleep.
You change your phone number. You quit your residency.
But he still finds you.
He waits for you in your hotel room. You come back from a late dinner, fumbling with your keycard, and he’s just there, inside. Like he’s always belonged there. Like you’re the one intruding.
He doesn’t threaten. He just talks.
He tells you he didn’t mean to scare you. That he just wanted to be close to you. That he fell in love the moment he saw you. That he made your apartment perfect because you deserved it.
That he watched you cry after phone calls and wanted to hold you.
That he listened to your breathing because it was the only sound that ever made him feel calm.
You back away slowly. You have a knife in your purse. You never used to carry one.
You draw it as he steps closer.
He doesn’t stop.
You stab him in the side.
He gasps. Bleeds. Smiles.
And still, still, he tries to touch your face like it’s the last thing he’ll ever see.

Enhance Safety and Style with Security & Accent Lighting in Chicago
ntroduction
Lighting plays a crucial role in both security and aesthetics, especially for commercial and residential properties in Chicago. Security & accent lighting serves a dual purpose: ensuring safety by deterring intruders and enhancing curb appeal by highlighting architectural features. With the right lighting solutions, you can create a well-lit, secure, and visually appealing space that complements your property’s design.
In this article, we’ll explore the importance of security lighting, the elegance of accent lighting, and how combining these elements can transform your property into a safe and attractive environment.
The Importance of Security Lighting
Security lighting is an essential component of any property’s safety plan. It provides adequate illumination to discourage criminal activity while ensuring visibility in dark areas. Here’s why security lighting is crucial:
1. Crime Prevention
A well-lit property reduces the chances of burglary, vandalism, and trespassing. Motion-activated security lights help startle potential intruders and increase visibility for surveillance cameras.
2. Enhanced Safety
Proper security lighting minimizes the risk of trips, falls, and other accidents, making pathways, driveways, and entryways safer for homeowners, guests, and employees.
3. Better Surveillance
Brightly lit areas improve the effectiveness of CCTV cameras, helping to capture clearer footage and enhancing security monitoring efforts.
Types of Security Lighting
Choosing the right security lighting depends on the property type and specific needs. Here are some popular options:
1. Motion Sensor Lights
Activate when movement is detected
Energy-efficient and effective in deterring intruders
Ideal for backyards, alleys, and dark corners
2. Floodlights
Provide broad, intense illumination
Suitable for large outdoor areas such as parking lots, driveways, and garages
Work well with motion sensors for added security
3. Wall-Mounted Lights
Offer consistent brightness near entryways and pathways
Enhance safety by reducing dark spots around the property
4. Smart Security Lighting
Allows remote control through mobile apps
Features customizable brightness levels and timers
Integrates with home automation systems for convenience
The Beauty of Accent Lighting
While security lighting focuses on safety, accent lighting enhances the aesthetic appeal of a property by highlighting key architectural and landscaping elements. Accent lighting creates ambiance and adds sophistication to outdoor spaces.
1. Highlighting Architectural Features
Strategically placed accent lighting draws attention to beautiful design elements like pillars, facades, and textured walls, giving the property a refined and stylish look.
2. Enhancing Landscaping
Garden and pathway accent lighting illuminates trees, shrubs, and flower beds, creating a picturesque setting while ensuring safe navigation.
3. Creating Mood and Ambiance
Soft and warm accent lighting can transform outdoor seating areas, patios, and decks into cozy retreats for entertaining guests or relaxing.
Types of Accent Lighting
To achieve a perfect ambiance, consider these accent lighting options:
1. Uplighting
Placed at the base of trees, statues, or walls to direct light upward
Adds drama and depth to landscapes
2. Downlighting
Installed on walls or under eaves to cast light downward
Creates a soft, natural glow
3. Pathway Lighting
Small LED fixtures that guide walkways and garden paths
Enhances safety while adding charm
4. String Lights
Perfect for outdoor seating areas, patios, and terraces
Provides a festive and welcoming ambiance
Combining Security & Accent Lighting for Maximum Impact
A well-balanced lighting design incorporates both security & accent lighting to achieve functionality and beauty. Here’s how to integrate these two elements effectively:
1. Layered Lighting Design
Use multiple lighting layers by combining floodlights for security, pathway lights for navigation, and accent lighting for decorative appeal.
2. Smart Automation
Install smart lighting systems that allow you to adjust brightness, set timers, and control lights remotely to enhance security and energy efficiency.
3. LED Solutions for Efficiency
Opt for LED lighting as it offers long-lasting performance, lower energy consumption, and reduced maintenance costs compared to traditional bulbs.
4. Professional Installation
Hiring an expert in security & accent lighting ensures proper placement, wiring, and optimal functionality for lasting benefits.
Conclusion
Investing in security & accent lighting enhances safety while elevating the visual appeal of your property. Whether you’re looking to secure your home, business, or commercial space in Chicago, combining these lighting elements can create a well-lit, stylish, and protected environment.

How Frontier Tech Enhances Urban Living
Frontier Tech Makes Cities Smarter
Frontier tech is changing cities. Smart technology helps manage resources better. For example, smart grids use sensors to optimize energy use. Cities like San Francisco use these to reduce power waste. This tech also reduces energy costs and raises environmental benefits.
Long-run frontier tech is also applied in smart homes. For instance, smart thermostats learn the habits of house residents and adapt the temperature to save energy. Many buildings in New York City are equipped with these devices, making homes more comfortable and eco-friendly.
Urban Transport Gets a Boost
Transport in cities is always congested. Frontier tech offers newer solutions. Electric scooters and bikes do their bit to decrease this traffic. Places like Austin experienced fewer car trips with the availability of such options. They are also environment-friendly, decreasing air pollution.
Autonomous vehicles are another innovation. They promise safe and smooth roads. Places like Phoenix test self-driving cars. These cars can reduce accidents and ease traffic jams.
Improving Safety and Security
The safety in cities is also strengthened by the use of frontier tech. Anything out of the ordinary can be detected by high-tech cameras with AI. This has been installed in public places in cities like Chicago, which keep a more watchful eye on everything. Crime is prevented, and many other measures are available.
At the same time, smart lighting systems add to safety at night. These light their brightness depending on movement. Therefore, energy saving is enabled and crime is reduced. Cities like Los Angeles use these systems to make streets safer.
Frontier technologies make city living much better. They help cities work more cohesively and be more effective. With the adoption of frontier technologies, it would be easy for the city to give its citizens a better quality of life.

The Ultimate Checklist: 16 Ways to Secure Chicago Vacant Commercial Properties
Securing Chicago vacant commercial properties is a task that demands meticulous planning and comprehensive strategies. Whether due to relocation, renovation, or market conditions, unoccupied commercial spaces are vulnerable to various risks. In this blog post, we present the ultimate checklist for Chicago property owners and managers to fortify vacant commercial properties, protecting assets and maintaining community safety.
DAWGS door and window guards securing vacant properties in Chicago
1. Assess Property Vulnerabilities
Begin by conducting a thorough assessment of the property’s vulnerabilities. Identify potential entry points, weak spots in the security infrastructure, and areas susceptible to damage or deterioration.
2. Strengthen Entry Points
Reinforce all entry points, including doors, windows, and loading docks. Consider upgrading locks, installing security doors, and using shatter-resistant glass to deter break-ins.
3. Install Adequate Lighting
Ensure the property is well-lit to discourage criminal activities. Use motion-activated lights for exterior spaces, parking lots, and entrances to enhance visibility during nighttime.
4. Utilize Visible Signage
Display prominent signs indicating that the property is monitored and that trespassing is prohibited. Clear communication can deter potential intruders and signal active security measures.
5. Implement Video Surveillance
Install a robust video surveillance system with strategically placed cameras. Regularly check and maintain the equipment, and ensure that cameras cover critical areas of the property.
6. Secure the Perimeter with Fencing
Surround the property with sturdy fencing to establish a clear boundary. A well-designed fence adds an extra layer of security and discourages unauthorized access.
7. Utilize Remote Monitoring Technology
Incorporate remote monitoring systems that allow real-time observation of the property. Remote monitoring enables swift responses to security threats, even when you’re not physically present.
8. Maintain Landscaping Regularly
Keep the exterior of the property well-maintained. Regular landscaping not only enhances the property’s appearance but also reduces the likelihood of criminal interest.
9. Implement Fire Prevention Measures
Minimize the risk of fires by removing combustible materials, ensuring proper storage of flammable items, and maintaining electrical systems in good working order.
10. Remove Valuables from the Property
If possible, remove valuable equipment, inventory, and other assets from the premises to eliminate the incentive for theft.
11. Secure HVAC Systems and Utilities
Ensure that HVAC systems are properly secured to prevent theft and vandalism. Additionally, shut off unnecessary utilities to reduce the risk of accidents.
12. Board Up Windows and Doors
Secure windows and doors by boarding them up. This not only deters break-ins but also protects the property from weather-related damage.
13. Engage with Local Law Enforcement
Establish positive communication with local law enforcement. Keep them informed about the property’s vacant status and request advice on additional security measures.
14. Community Outreach and Collaboration
Inform neighboring businesses and residents about the property’s vacancy. Encourage them to report any suspicious activities promptly, fostering a sense of community vigilance.
15. Adhere to Local Regulations
Stay informed about local ordinances and regulations regarding vacant commercial properties. Compliance ensures legal adherence and avoids potential fines.
16. Document Security Measures
Maintain detailed records of all security measures implemented, including installation dates and maintenance schedules. This documentation is valuable for reference and accountability.
Securing vacant commercial properties in Chicago requires a multi-faceted approach. By following this ultimate checklist, property owners and managers can fortify their assets, minimize risks, and contribute to the overall safety and well-being of the community.

CHICAGO (CBS) -- Police are asking for help finding three men wanted in connection with an armed robbery at the Garfield stop on the Red Line.
Chicago police have released surveillance images of the three men who robbed a Red Line passenger who was riding a train home from work around 9:20 p.m. on Sept. 17 at the Garfield stop.
One of the robbers was holding a knife when they approached the victim, before all three robbers began to punch and kick him.
The robbers started to leave, but then came back and stole the victim's bicycle, and threw it on the tracks, where it was hit by an oncoming train.
Police asked anyone who recognizes the robbers to call Area One detectives at 312-745-4706.
Meantime, the CTA has announced it has now installed new security camera monitors in customer assistant booths in all 146 rail stations.
The monitors will provide live feeds of the cameras at each station, and allow on-duty employees to monitor activity throughout the station.

Sinners & Saints-Chapter 5

Chapter Five
Jamie walked his newly planted fields and saw green shoots coming up in every direction. He prayed for a good harvest this year. Not because he was poor or starving, he just wanted to win at something this year. He answered his cell phone and stood up straight, listening intently.
“Are you sure it’s Casper? I’ll leave within the hour and meet you in Paris.”
Jamie felt exhilarated and ran back to the house and into the shower. Casper had come out of retirement and stolen a painting from a private gallery. He did the same thing at a London gallery the previous weekend. It seemed a bit low end but at the very least, it would buy him more time. He got packed and headed for the airport.
Claire sat in her office at the University, staring into gray space. Her pencil tapped absently and when Geillis called to her she jumped.
“Calm yerself, Claire. I had hoped you could settle down a bit, especially with your gorgeous high-security apartment, and it’s been five months without word from that snake Randall. But yer still very unhappy. Why?”
Claire looked up at Geillis and shook her head, saying she didn’t sleep much the night before and not to worry. She packed up and went home for even more quiet time with her gray thoughts and more time to worry she was losing her mind. Jamie lived in her head now, always with her, always heartbroken because of what she did. She didn’t think he would ever speak to her again, and if he did, what would she say? Looking at the clock she wanted to scream because it was only seven o’clock. That was the worst part of missing Jamie, an hour took forever to go by so the torture never ended.
Claire grabbed some lined paper and a pen to see just what she would say to Jamie. Maybe getting it all out is what she needed to start feeling better. She could burn the letter after it was written.
Jamie poured over the reports and studied the crime scene photos of what were now three thefts. Something was wrong, but he couldn’t put his finger on it. He spent two full days checking his contacts in the black market, but no one knew the fence for this art, no one knew anything. The last guy he spoke to said someone told him a Monet would be in play soon, but he didn’t know which one. Jamie thanked him and promised the standard reward if the information was used to apprehend Casper.
Jamie sat on the same bench he shared with Claire six months ago and he let himself remember her smile and whisky brown eyes. She was playful and sexy, and he believed she had feelings for him. He shook his head and opened the newspaper. Flipping pages to the art section he scanned the ads and bam, there it was. A mid-range gallery hosting a private collection of Monet the following weekend. This, it seemed, was Casper’s new normal. Private showings and small galleries. Jamie had a good feeling about the location, and they had one week to set the scene to catch Casper.
There was one piece of evidence left by Casper that wasn’t shared with the world. It was how they identified him as the thief. Casper took great pains to keep the art intact, unlike many who pull the canvas from the frame basically ripping it out. Casper used some kind of tool to pop the nails that held the canvas in the frame. Whatever this tool was left distinct marks on the wood, a half-moon indentation. It was all they had so it was a guarded secret.
Claire pulled another piece of paper, the fourth piece, and continued writing a letter she would never send. Her feelings opened up to her like a blooming flower and she let it flow thinking the answer to her continuous sadness would reveal itself so she could fix it. When she was ready to end the letter and had said all there was to say, she wrote, ’I have never shared this much of me with anyone and I hope it cures my broken heart. I can summarize these four pages by saying I love you, Jamie, with all my heart, I love you.’
Claire sat up and looked at the paper. The words I love you seemed to jump off the page and she just stared at them. Before she could stop herself she sent a text to Jamie, ‘I love you, please forgive me. Claire” Send.
She didn’t expect to hear from him but hoped this would give her some closure. She went to bed.
Jamie stared at his phone and felt his heart ramming in his chest. Those words were the absolute last he expected to see, six months after they parted. He wouldn’t be returning the text, but as he fell asleep he said out loud, “I love you too Claire.”
The Monet show was one day away, and Jamie called Javier to ask about the gallery. He seemed genuinely happy he called and suggested they meet for lunch and he would answer any questions he could. Seeing the older man’s happy face was bittersweet for Jamie. They met at a sidewalk cafe and Jamie told him about the show. He asked about the gallery, if there were hidden entrances, a second vault, a basement, or structural abnormalities. Javier answered what he could and asked Jamie who it was they were closing in on.
“Casper.”
Javier almost choked on his coffee, “Casper you say? Well, that is wonderful, I hope you get him.”
The men talked a bit about sports and Jamie thanked Javier for his help and then bit him goodbye.
Claire came home early and saw a coded message from Javier. Once Tom deciphered the message, she couldn’t believe her eyes. ‘Lunch with Jamie, he is preparing to arrest Casper tomorrow on a tip about a Monet. Needless to say, I was very surprised but not worried because you are in Chicago, right?’ Claire held the Chicago Tribune in front of her chest and took a selfie that she sent to Javier. She needed some air.
Jamie and his team had installed close circuit tv monitors in the gallery office and extra cameras throughout the exhibit. They scrutinized each visitor until their eyes were blurry. Jamie noticed a man standing in front of one of the pictures for a very long time. When he moved away the picture was still there, but Jamie’s gut was telling him the guy wasn’t normal. He radioed to his men near the door and described the man as he started running. The man was already being led out of the gallery when Jamie got to him. This was surprising since he would expect a man to fight harder for his freedom. The art thief had switched the painting with a reproduction and was arrested. His pockets were searched and a small Leatherman multitool was handed to Jamie. It was a link to Casper he thought, and a billion other people.
Later that afternoon, Jamie questioned the suspect who knew all the details of the last three crimes but was confused about the others.
“Tell me, sir, why did you rip the Rembrandt canvas out of the frame? Was someone coming?”
“I don’t remember, probably.”
Jamie made a sound of disgust, “if you intend to impersonate someone, sir, at least get the details straight. You are not Casper, nor could you ever be. You’re not smart enough.”
Jamie left the suspect handcuffed to the table and left. The pressure from his employers had let up with the newly revived Casper chase but now they would learn it was a copycat crime and his nightmares would start again.
“Yes, sir. It was a copycat, sir.”
“This is not good news for us or you Mister Fraser. We gave you an additional six months and you failed to fulfill your end of our bargain. I’m sorry Mister Fraser, it is out of my hands. The court will be notified of your failure to abide, sadly our agreement will be nullified.”
Jamie put the phone down and walked outside for some air. All of his tomorrows suddenly vanished and the nightmare of his captivity came back in living color. He was terrified. Not of monsters or torture, but of loneliness, desolation, no hope of escape. Jamie realized he left his phone at the office and jogged back before he lost that too.
Once back at his hotel, the phone vibrated an incoming text and Jamie’s heart sank, they don’t fool around, he thought. He looked with disbelief at the text message. ‘Come to Greece Jamie, please give me a chance to fix the hurt I caused. Two weeks on a yacht, just you and me going from one island to another. My heart aches to be near you. We can spend the first day making rules we are comfortable with. Claire.’
Jamie held his phone while the heartbreak over missed opportunities crushed him. “I love you too, Sassenach. Forget about me and find your happiness.” No text was returned, instead, Jamie got back to his reports and the grief settled into his bones.
Claire had battled herself for days over sending the text. The semester was over and she was getting out of Chicago for two weeks at least. She owned a yacht that was moored in Greece and the open water always made her feel better. For days Claire waited to hear back from Jaime, but no text came. This was the second time she extended an olive branch, leaving herself vulnerable, and he did not make contact. He was lost to her forever she concluded, and try as she might, the tears came, her legs buckled, and she sobbed into a gray pillow on her gray couch in her gray apartment, like her heart would never mend.
Jamie spent three days closing his case on Casper and the successful arrests made during the past year. He checked out of the hotel and headed for the airport. He considered calling Javier, but he wasn’t strong enough to show a brave face. Javier reminded Jamie of his own father in many ways and he didn’t want the reality of who and what he was to be known. Not to anyone in her world. Her perfect, sparkling world would be repelled by him. Like a muddy pig running through a fancy white living room. Jamie swiped at his eyes in the taxi and tried to stop thinking about it. His phone buzzed for email and he brought it up.
Good afternoon, Mister Fraser.
We have ironed out the details of your return and would like to ask for your complete cooperation. Our agreement is not to be known outside of the agency and we want you to extract yourself slowly to avoid anyone looking for you or filing reports that you are missing. You will return to us as quiet as possible. I do hope you agree, the alternative is rather brutal.
I understand you have a small farm in Scotland and will need time to sell it and conclude any other business such as liquidating assets and the like. We are offering a four to six-week window and ask that you keep us informed.
Any questions you can reach out to this address and I will receive the message.
Jamie paid the taxi driver who looked at him with sympathy and told him life will be brighter tomorrow. He wiped at his face and nodded. Sorry mister, wrong about that, no sun where I’m going, no love, no hope, no redemption, he thought.
When Claire landed in Athens, she spent half of the first day getting reacquainted with the captain and his girlfriend who lived on the ship. There were living quarters connected to the bridge and they were happy there, living on a luxury yacht waiting to be called to duty. She and Maia made three trips to the grocery store to stock food for a two-week journey.
Claire walked down the long dock with her arms full of last-minute purchases. She could feel one of the bags slipping through her arm and she felt sweat drip down the side of her face from the effort.
“Here, let me help you with that.” The man rescued the slipping bag and took all the others. Her subconscious smelled him and sent a cascade of neurotransmitters through her body that felt glorious and tense at the same time. She looked up at his face and just stared at his icy blue eyes and crooked smile.
“You invited me, remember Sassenach?” He asked the question nervously as he could not read the shock on her face.
“And here you are,” was her breathy response.
Jamie wanted to drop the bags and crush her to him. She was like the gift of air to a suffocating man.
Claire was so overwhelmed it took a few seconds to see the man that had stolen her heart was right in front of her. She pulled his head down and kissed him with all the pent up passion and loneliness of the past six months. Someone pulled the bags out of Jamie’s arms and he wrapped her up and held her to him. The kiss was a surrender to love, an invitation to leave the chrysalis of loneliness and fly into a world of their making. When she finally pulled away from him, she was the definition of happiness.
“It is so good to see you, Jamie.”
“You just restarted my dead heart Sassenach, thank you for that.”
He kissed her again and as time passed for the rest of the world, for them it didn’t exist. Jamie heard the musical sound of the Greek language and looked up at the biggest boat he had ever seen up close. Two beautiful people were on the top deck waving and laughing, beckoning them on board. He heard Claire laughing as she waved back.
“Do we get on that then?”
Claire was giggling, “we do, come on I’ll show you around.”
Jamie was astounded at the size and luxury of the yacht, three bedrooms, two decks, a large living area with a huge flatscreen, phones, and a bar. The galley had two refrigerators and a chest freezer, two ovens, microwaves, and large food preparation counters. The opulence was staggering and if not for the beautiful girl walking in front of him he would have looked closer. When they found the back deck, Claire pulled his mouth to hers and they were lost in love.
“Time for trunks or something more comfortable.”
She led him back to the master bedroom and helped him put his clothes away, noticing he packed for any occasion. She unbuttoned her shirt and Jamie watched her with interest as she pulled off her cut-off shorts to reveal the tiniest bikini, bright melon colored against her tanned skin. I will meet you on deck. Maia has been cooking since yesterday, so I promise you won’t starve. She looked at him and wanted to pinch herself in case she was dreaming. He was here, with her, he came.
Claire handed Jamie a cold glass of champagne and offered flatbread and several kinds of dip that were made from scratch while they chatted at the bar. The sexual energy was palpable, and Claire looked out at the ocean to think about something other than the mere twelve inches of space between them.
“My God, I haven’t noticed how blue the water is until now, I can’t remember the last time I saw blue.”
There was so much to discuss but every sentence fell stunted, unexplored because both were captivated with the other.
Claire picked up a ringing phone at the bar and told the captain they were ready to go. She smiled at Jamie and promised open ocean and sunshine for the next six hours.
“This is my first launch, you want to see it from the front deck?”
Jamie watched her mouth and nodded yes.
They got comfortable and sipped champagne as the captain eased the vessel away from the dock and toward the open ocean. It wasn’t long before the huge engines pushed the boat forward to cruising speed and Maia appeared with the cold bottle of champagne to refill their glasses.
“Maia, what do you have on?”
Maia was a Greek beauty with all the attributes this country was known for. Large brown eyes, a wide smile, and flowing hair to her waist. She looked down at her clothes and shrugged her shoulders,
“Uniform.”
Claire rubbed the highly starched shirt sleeve between her fingers and noticed the ill-fitting shorts. This would not do, she thought.
“You have been in cut-offs or a swimsuit since I arrived. Unless you love that uniform, I want you to be comfortable. Please, get that off.”
Maia thanked her and left them alone.
“I think we left the dip on back deck. Let’s go find it.”
Jamie noticed her voice was quiet and nervous sounding. When they walked to the other deck Claire closed the sliding glass door and locked it. The glass was black and Jamie wondered if it blocked the view from the other side. Claire led him to a lounge with a comfortable mattress and pillows to aide whatever ailed you. She walked back to the bar removing her button-down shirt revealing her exposed butt cheeks. She looked naked from behind and Jamie almost choked on his tongue. Her skin was already bronzed with a bit of sunburn on her cheeks and shoulders. She brought the tray of bread and dip and laid next to Jamie on the large lounge.
He took in every gorgeous inch of her and ran his hand down her hip and leg. He wanted to touch everything and tried to hold himself back.
“I promised we would go over the ground rules first thing.” She ran her hand across his massive chest and down his arm. When he saw her ramming heart pulsing in her neck, he let it go and pulled her on top of him to smother her with kisses. In his delirious mind, he decided this was enough, to have her body on his and her tongue in his mouth. When she broke the kiss, he chased her mouth as she sat up and straddled him. He watched her reach behind and pull the strings of her bikini top dropping it on the floor. She never took her eyes off his until he pulled her down and kissed her.
Their bodies were covered in sweat that made contact difficult, causing them to overheat or slide off each other. Claire stretched her arm until her fingertips touched the bridge phone.
“Darius, were you kidding about sea spray …ahhh…on the back deck when you dropped speed. Okay, do that please.”
She dropped the phone and used that arm to pull on the string holding Jamie’s trunks on. They slowed enough for the wake to slap the sides of the boat and lovely, cool, sea spray brought their temperature down for more vigorous activity. Jamie ran his tongue from her waist to breast and sucked a nipple while caressing the other. She was losing her mind and asked him to pound into her which he did in short order, gasping when he filled her. Claire felt the throbbing, almost painfully. She begged him not to stop, she was about to come. His next two strokes pressed into her and he twisted his hips. That did it. He held her and watched her face register the euphoria, he had never loved her more. When she pressed his butt, he pumped into her soft wetness until he stiffened and his body convulsed as he emptied himself into her.
They kissed and found their favorite resting position to snuggle and nap the afternoon away. Claire called the bridge and asked Darius to set whatever cruising speed he wanted, and the boat lurched forward.
Later, Jamie felt a cool breeze on his stomach and opened his eyes to a breathtaking sunset.
“Sassenach, sweetheart, you must see this beautiful sky.” Claire sat up and declared it the best sunset she had ever seen. What finally drove them inside was starvation and Maia served them a beautiful meal of lobster bisque, steak, and several Greek sides that were delicious but unknown to them.
Later they cuddled under a quilt on the top deck and let the heavens entertain them with shooting stars streaking across a black sky with billions of stars as a backdrop.
“It’s important to me that you really know who I am, how I got this way, how I could screw up so bad in Paris last Christmas. Would you mind?”
“Please Sassenach, there is nothing I’d like more.”
Claire turned on a battery-operated light and handed him her four-page burn letter. She couldn’t bring herself to burn it because it was all she had to remember him by. It was shoved into her wallet and now it was in Jamie’s hands. She felt self-conscious and rolled away to leave him to his reading. He caught her hand and pulled her back, “not without you love.”
He read every line and then, to her surprise, started at the first line and read it again.
“Jesus, lass, I hardly know what to say. Completely alone at five years old except for a man who dragged you from one archaeological dig to another. He wasn’t there for you emotionally, I see that, I also see how you slip easily into emotionless relationships. And why I didn’t hear from you for six months. It makes sense now, so many things. Come here, sweetheart.”
Jamie hugged Claire and pulled her to him. She was so grateful he read her letter, and then read it again. She hoped he would have more faith in her this time because now she knew how much she loved him.
“What is happening with Frank Sassenach?”
Claire was quiet just a little too long while she considered telling Jamie the truth. If she didn’t, the letter meant nothing and he still couldn’t trust her. She reached for her phone and launched her gallery.
“This is my new apartment that Javier rented for me, and that is all my new furniture. He arranged everything from the lease to filling the apartment with furniture, kitchen stuff, even clothes. The reason he had to do all this is because…”
Claire swiped to the next picture of her destroyed apartment showing various rooms and angles. Then she swiped again, and Jamie’s intake of air was loud enough for the sea creatures to hear. He grabbed her phone and sat up, studying the picture of her face after being knocked out.
“No, no, no, no, no, my God, how did this happen, who did this? Oh my God Claire, this is sickening.”
He stood up and walked the deck around their bed under the stars. He kept looking at the picture as she told him exactly what happened. When she was finished, he pulled her from her sitting position down on the mattress and covered her. He spoke into her ear, telling her she was loved and protected, and Frank or anyone else would never touch her in anger again. His kisses were love affirming becoming heated and passionate causing her to pant.
Claire was trying to get his shirt off and panting in his ear when the voice of reason took over in his head. You will love her, tell her you will always be there for her, make her feel safe, and then break her heart like everyone else in her life. The lovemaking came to a crashing halt and Jamie looked like he had been kicked in the head.
“Sassenach, I…I’m sorry love. I’m too much in my head, I can’t right now. I’m sorry.”
“You are here in the flesh Jamie. You took a leap of faith and came on this trip with me. Your hands are still warm, and your heart is still open. That’s what I want. There is time for us to find our way.
He hugged her for over a minute, trying to come to terms with his reality. He had, at the most, six weeks of freedom left, and he needed to find a way to tell her. Claire suggested a hot shower and sleep and he agreed.

Home Security Cameras
Home security is important, with security cameras being an integral part of any effective security system. The popularity of security camera systems has been booming over recent years due to the DIY (Do It Yourself) market. What do you know about security cameras? Do you know what cameras work best in what situations? There's a lot to learn about cameras, and not every camera is created equal. Video surveillance, as its often referred to as, is a large and complicated technology marketplace with thousands of varying cameras, lenses, housings, and applications.
Installing a camera system yourself can feel rewarding, but is it at the risk of efficacy and security? Its best to trust a professional security integrator for the installation of your security camera system to ensure longevity, efficacy, and overall security of your property. Installing the incorrect camera for the application might have dire consequences, and its not worth it to save a penny to lose a dollar in today's ever-changing world.
The fantastic component of working with Chicago Security Systems is that we have a network of security companies that we work with to offer you the best industry-leading technology and service. This allows us to offer cutting-edge technology from the major manufacturers, combined with the best customer service and professional experience you would expect from a Fortune 500 security company.
Leading security camera manufacturers such as:
Axis
Arecont
Avigilon
Vivotek
Dahua
Alhua
HikVision
and more...
All today's camera systems are considered IP-based, or Internet Protocol. This means they are connected via Cat5/Cat5 ethernet cabling and connected to an internal network, or the internet. "On-premise" systems are security camera networks that are connected to a server, NVR (Network Video Recorder), SVR (Streaming Video Recorder), DVR (Digital Video Recorder), or a VCR (they still make these?!). Cloud based security camera systems are collected to the cloud, or a virtual server hosted somewhere else offsite. There can still be built-in redundancy with an on-premise appliance and backed up to the cloud. We don't recommend to have just one storage device, in case of fraud, disaster, or accidents that can happen. Its best to have a contingency plan and backup storage devices to protect your data in case you need it.

Time of Day, Day of the Week
Some locksmiths charge an additional fee depending on the right time of this afternoon or the afternoon of the week. Need or Accessibility
Professional locksmiths work with a first-come, first-serve foundation. While they may set appointments to get part-time tasks they won't leave a project as you have an emergency. Picking a company offering locksmith services when compared with a single locksmith can be a good idea.

After sheltering at home for nearly two months, tens of thousands of autoworkers have started streaming back into car and truck plants across the South and Midwest, a critical step toward bringing the nation’s largest manufacturing industry back to life. In April, automakers, which were closing plants at various times, produced just 4,840 cars, pickup trucks and sport utility vehicles in North America, according to Automotive News, down from 1.4 million a year earlier. Sales of new vehicles in April fell by about 50 percent, according to Cox Automotive, a market researcher. “The auto industry is America’s economic engine,” Ford Motor’s chief operating officer, Jim Farley, said during a recent conference call on the company’s reopening plans. “Restarting the entire auto ecosystem is how we restart the economy.” Ford, General Motors, and Fiat Chrysler plan to restart production on Monday, after Toyota, Honda and Tesla began reopening plants last week. Hyundai restarted a plant in Alabama on May 4. But production will not bounce back quickly. The revival will unfold over a week or more as dozens of auto plants and hundreds of factories owned by parts suppliers gear up and start making and shipping products. The speed with which companies can move will depend in part on how quickly national, state and local governments loosen stay-at-home orders in the United States, Canada and Mexico, because the industry’s supply chains are closely intertwined across North America. Some automakers have already run into complications. Tesla, for example, and its chief executive, Elon Musk, were so eager to resume production last week at the company’s factory in Fremont, Calif., that they defied local officials and sued the county. Mercedes-Benz restarted an S.U.V. plant in Alabama on April 27, but stopped production on Friday after running short of parts. Volkswagen was scheduled to start making cars at a plant in Chattanooga, Tenn., on Sunday — two weeks after it had originally hoped to bring workers back, because many of its suppliers needed more time to get up and running. The automakers announced in mid-March that they would shut down their plants as the coronavirus spread and cases started surging in the Northeast, Louisiana and the Detroit area, where the three biggest U.S. automakers are based. The risk of infection is considered high for assembly-line workers because they often spend long hours working alongside one another. While many of the automakers’ white-collar employees have been able to work from home, the shutdowns idled nearly 400,000 automotive production workers in April, according to the Bureau of Labor Statistics. The industry accounts for about 4 percent of the nation’s economy. There is little precedent for such an across-the-board shutdown, said Erik Gordon, a business professor at the University of Michigan. Of course, strikes have forced individual car companies to shut down periodically; one last fall idled G.M. plants for 40 days. But Mr. Gordon, who has long tracked the industry, couldn’t think of a time when the three big companies, their suppliers and many dealers had to shut down at the same time. During World War II, the industry stopped making cars, but its plants were retooled to make armaments and kept millions of people employed, Mr. Gordon noted. “There’s really nothing we can compare this to because it’s the entire industry, and its supply chain, that has closed down completely,” he said. Now, the industry faces another daunting task that it has never faced: restarting production during a pandemic. Automakers have made numerous changes to reduce the risk of infection, including slowing down the rate at which they churn out cars. Most manufacturers plan to shorten shifts, with more down time in between for cleaning. Employees will also be required to stagger their arrival and departure to reduce contact with others during shift changes. Ford, G.M. and Fiat Chrysler will ask workers to fill out questionnaires and have their temperatures taken before reporting for work. The goal is to identify anybody who may have symptoms or has been in contact with somebody who is or has been ill. Workers will be required to wear masks, gloves and eye protection while on the job. Fiat Chrysler has installed thermal-imaging cameras in some hallways and entryways to check workers for fevers. On its assembly lines, the company has set up transparent curtains to prevent transmission between people who work next to each other. At some stations where two workers install under-the-hood components at the same time, the company has developed screens that can be placed on engines. Ford has placed portable sinks and hand-sanitizer dispensers throughout its plants and installed no-touch faucets and soap dispensers in restrooms. Under guidelines worked out with the United Automobile Workers union, employees will have to get tested for the virus if they show symptoms. G.M., Ford and Fiat Chrysler, however, are not planning to test workers daily or weekly even though the U.A.W. has pushed for it. On Saturday, Ford said it had secured contracts with health care providers in southeastern Michigan; Louisville, Ky.; Kansas City, Mo.; and Chicago to test symptomatic employees and provide results within 24 hours. “We continue to advocate for as much testing as possible at the current time and eventually full testing when available,” the union’s president, Rory Gamble, said in a statement. In Louisville, the home of two Ford plants that make trucks and large S.U.V.s, many workers are looking forward to getting steady paychecks again but also a little worried, said Todd Dunn, president of U.A.W. Local 862. “Everybody is burning cash,” he said. “And the company needs to produce, or we won’t have a company to go back to.” Still, the risk of sickness and the complexities of a new safety policies are weighing on workers. “A lot of members have parents or in-laws at home,” Mr. Dunn said. “So you wonder, ‘Should I take off my clothes in the garage and take a shower?’ A lot of members have issues with child care.” It will probably take many months before the industry is producing as many cars as it was before plants shut down. The delicate restart of production will probably unfold slowly over at least a week or more as dozens of auto plants and hundreds of others owned by parts suppliers resume manufacturing and shipping operations dependent on the loosening of stay-at-home orders in the United States, Canada and Mexico. G.M., which had been running two or three shifts in its North American plants, will start most plants on a single shift per day, something automakers try to avoid. The company said it was not yet sure if it would be able to restart its three plants in Mexico on Monday. Toyota’s North American plants restarted last week, operating on one or two shifts a day. Honda reopened its plants but isn’t seeking to increase production quickly, to give crews time to become accustomed to new safety procedures and working conditions. For now, there is no great urgency for automakers to ramp up manufacturing, because auto sales are not expected to recover fully anytime soon. AutoNation, the country’s largest dealership chain, reported last week that sales of new and used cars at the end of April were down about 20 percent from a year earlier, after falling 50 percent in the first 10 days of the month. Some people were buying cars because they were avoiding public transit and shared transportation services, the company’s chief executive, Mike Jackson, said. “I think this will be a very difficult restart and they need to get on with it,” Mr. Jackson said about the automakers. “But I can see where if plants don’t restart, in a month or two there’s going to be some inventory issues.” The post Autoworkers Are Returning as Carmakers Gradually Crank Up Factories appeared first on Sansaar Times.

PROLOGUE.
THE FOOL, REVERSED reckless, being taken advantage of, inconsideration
It’s a reckless act, one that crosses well into the territory of stupidity. But one cold September night, Matthias O’Shea decides to sell what he knows for a clear conscience. The fucking rat. He hands over a list of names and two address to the Chicago Police Department - ‘I suspect,’ he surmises, as if he’s trying to brush off the exact weight of what he’s doing.
Matthias O’Shea is a fool and that night Chicago pays for it.
Like wasps, the police swarm both meeting locations. They crawl into the basement of Ferguson & O’Riley, finding the O’Sheas, unaware. They descend on one of the warehouses in the Po catching the Fausts, surprised. Gunshots erupt almost immediately, cracking through the air like thunder on that cloudless night, and violence spills into the streets.
The lazy streets of the city have become a war zone. In a moment, Chicago is turned upside-down because of Matthias O’Shea’s foolishness.
CHAPTER 1.
THE MAGICIAN, UPRIGHT willpower, desire, creation, manifestation
We open on fall, two weeks later. There’s fresh earth on the graves of both the Faust's and O’Shea’s, including Mason O’Shea and Jaxon Faust. Both gangs scramble to set up their new headquarters. The O’Shea’s land on blank and the Faust's land on one of the docked freighters of Southern Transport.
But it’s as if the changing colors of the trees are determined to prove that the earth keeps turning, even in the face of great upheaval.
Mayor Washington, the dark horse candidate of the last election, is not as BLANK as his predecessor. It’s harder to pull the wool over this one’s eyes. And while Mayor Carver was not oblivious to the dark underbelly of the city, he seemed to lack the presence to cause any real change. Meanwhile, Mayor Washington has the willpower to pull this city up by its bootstraps. Death will not define this city in the way it has in the past.
The Washington's host a fall festival at the Lincoln Park Zoo to raise spirits. Come carve a pumpkin, have some snacks or enjoy the corn maze. Most importantly, revel in community. The Fall Fest is decidedly marked as neutral territory amongst most gangs, but it would be naive to say a pumpkin spice latte is enough to heal the wounds of a lost comrade, a lost father, or a lost brother.
SOMEHOW, THE NIGHT GOES ON DESPITE THE BLOODSHED.
( plot slots for each of these scenes can be found below the cut ! )

FINNIAN corners JAXON FAUST and TEDDY COHEN. FINNIAN turns his attention to JAXON, and TEDDY uses the distraction to save himself. FINNIAN kills JAXON FAUST.
[ CHARACTER Q ] and [ CHARACTER R ] work to update the security system for the next two weeks by recruiting guards, gathering weapons, and installing a new system.

Katerina Fox accidentally drops their lit cigarette into the corn pool. It’s now a bonfire.
Jordan Wake and [ CHARACTER Z ] accidentally get lost in a corn maze together. They are able to escape [ using an unconventional method of their choice.]
Holly Byrne is a regular Disney princess. For some reason the animals at the petting zoo will not leave them alone. One even escapes and follows them around for the rest of the evening. Congrats on the new pet.
[CHARACTER B1 ]  gets motion sickness on the carousel and accidentally vomit on the elaborately decorated pony that has been named Higgins by the local children.
[ CHARACTER C1 ]  hijacks the train for a joy ride with [CHARACTER D1 ] on it.
[ CHARACTER E1 ] is so excited for the Ferris wheel, that they ride it multiple times that night. At the last call for the ride, they get stuck on top with [CHARACTER F1 ] as their partner.
[ CHARACTER G1 ] expects to get a drug delivery, but instead gets delicious holiday snacks made by [ CHARACTER H1 ] ‘s  [RELATION OF CHOICE].
[ CHARACTER I1 ] slides down the fun slide on their stomach, face first. They suffer minor injuries, and cause injury to [ CHARACTER J1 ] when they fly off. They both get banned from the ride the rest of the festival.
Effie Faust finally convinces the attendant that they are young enough to go into the bounce house made for children. While inside, they see that [ CHARACTER L1 ] has already done the exact same thing.

Meanwhile, in AI-ethics land
https://ainowinstitute.org/AI_Now_2019_Report.pdf
(...)
2.1 The Private Automation of Public Infrastructure
As attention to the concerns about AI infrastructures increases, we tend to see them discussed in terms of a dichotomy between public and private uses. This separation has always been false on some level and this year we have seen signs of its eventual collapse, with clear evidence of ongoing and expansive integration of public and private systems across many different AI domains.
AI and Neighborhood Surveillance
Troubling partnerships between government and private tech companies also emerged as a trend this year, especially those that extended surveillance from public environments into private spaces like private properties and the home.
For example, this summer, a Canadian RCMP troop in Red Deer, Alberta, launched a program called CAPTURE to enable “community assisted policing through the use of recorded evidence.”252The idea was for commercial businesses and personal residences with private security-camera infrastructure to effectively share the captured information on their private property with the police, under the guise of improved community safety. As of November, more than 160 properties are participating, effectively covering the entire map of the city, and providing access to the police surveillance of spaces previously inaccessible without a warrant and consent for entry.253 Since 2016, Project Green Light in the City of Detroit in the United States has been working in an almost identical fashion. By March of 2019, the mayor of Detroit decided to establish the “Neighborhood Real-Time Intelligence Program,” described as “a $9 million, state- and federally-funded initiative
AI Now 2019 Report page 36
that would not only expand Project Green Light by installing surveillance equipment at 500 Detroit intersections—on top of the over 500 already installed at businesses—but also utilize facial recognition software to identify potential criminals.”254
Amazon exemplified this new wave of commercial surveillance tech with Ring, a smart-security-device company acquired by Amazon in 2018. The central product is its video doorbell, which allows Ring users to see, talk to, and record those who come to their doorsteps. This is paired with a neighborhood watch app called “Neighbors,” which allows users to post instances of crime or safety issues in their community and comment with additional information, including photos and videos.255 A series of reports reveals that Amazon had negotiated Ring video-sharing partnerships with more than 700 police departments across the US. Partnerships give police a direct portal through which to request videos from Ring users in the event of a nearby crime investigation.256 Not only is Amazon encouraging police departments to use and market Ring products by providing discounts, but it also coaches police on how to successfully request surveillance footage from Neighbors through their special portal.257 As Chris Gilliard, a professor who studies digital redlining and discriminatory practices, comments: “Amazon is essentially coaching police on . . . how to do their jobs, and . . . how to promote Ring products.”258
Neighbors is joined by other apps like Nextdoor and Citizen, which allow users to view local crime in real time and discuss it with one another. Ring, Nextdoor, and Citizen have all been criticized for feeding into existing biases around who is likely to commit crime; Nextdoor even changed its software and policies given extensive evidence of racial stereotyping on its platform.259 Others see these app-based surveillance operations sowing a climate of fear, while tech companies profit from a false perception that crime is on the rise.260
Smart Cities
Concerns about the privatization of public space took center stage this year in the debate around “smart cities” (municipalities that use data, sensors, and algorithms to manage resources and services).
Most smart-city initiatives rely on public-private partnerships and technology developed and controlled by tech companies, which shifts public resources and control over municipal infrastructure and values to these companies.261 Recent research has exposed the extent to which major tech companies such as IBM and Cisco have been “selling smartness” by disseminating narratives about urban challenges and technological solutions to those challenges.262 The Alphabet company Sidewalk Labs has similarly been producing vision documents replete with renderings of utopian urban scenes.263 These companies see the potential for massive profits: one report estimated the global smart cities market being worth $237.6 billion by 2025.
Smart-city projects around the United States and the world increasingly consolidate power in the hands of for-profit technology companies, while depriving municipalities and their residents of resources and privacy. The highest-profile example is in Toronto, the home of Sidewalk Lab’s project to develop “the world’s first neighbourhood built from the internet up.”265 A report in February 2019 found that Sidewalk Labs has expressed a desire to receive a portion of the property taxes and development fees (estimated at $30 billion over 30 years) associated with the project, which would otherwise go to the City of Toronto.266 And in June 2019, Sidewalk Labs released a Master Innovation and Development Plan (MIDP), describing plans to develop and manage a far larger plot of land than the 12 acres for which the company was initially given license to develop plans.267
Smart-city projects also lack transparency and genuine forms of civic participation.268 Sidewalk Labs’s civic engagement efforts have been described as a process of obfuscation and “gaslighting.”269 Similarly, a contract between urban-planning software company Replica (a Sidewalk Labs spinoff company) and the Portland, Oregon regional transportation planning agency provides no public access to Replica’s algorithms.270 Siemens is launching a €600 million smart-city neighborhood in Berlin, creating “laboratories in reality” with barely any public meetings so far.271
Many of these public-private partnerships directly enhance the government’s surveillance capabilities. Chicago and Detroit have both purchased software enabling them to deploy facial recognition in the video feeds from cameras across the cities.272 Similarly, the multinational Chinese tech company Huawei’s $1.5 billion project to create smart cities in Africa273 included a project in Nairobi where it installed 1,800 cameras, 200 traffic surveillance systems, and a national police command center as part of its “Safe City” program.274 Huawei’s Safe City technology has been used by some African governments to spy on political opponents.275
In other cities, behind-the-scenes data-sharing arrangements allow data collected by private companies to flow into law-enforcement agencies. San Diego has installed thousands of microphones and cameras on street lamps in recent years in an effort to study traffic and parking conditions; although the data has proven of little use in improving traffic, the police have used the video footage in more than 140 cases without any oversight or accountability.276 The City of Miami is actively considering a 30-year contract with Illumination Technologies, providing the company with free access to set up light poles containing cameras and license-plate readers, collecting information that will filter through the Miami Police Department (and that the company can use in unchecked ways).277 Documents obtained via public-records requests showed that 300 police departments in California have access, through Palantir, to data collected and stored by the Department of Homeland Security’s Northern California Regional Intelligence Center, without any requirement to disclose their access to this information.278
Numerous groups are beginning to push back on the encroaching privatization fueled by smart cities, with the most concerted and organized effort in Toronto. In February, a group of 30 Torontonians launched the #BlockSidewalk campaign,279 and has noted that the project “is as much about privatization and corporate control as it is about privacy.”280 In April, the Canadian Civil Liberties Association (CCLA) filed a lawsuit against Waterfront Toronto, arguing the organization abused its legal authority in granting Sidewalk Labs the authority to develop data-governance policy.281 And after Sidewalk Labs released its MIDP, the Chairman of Waterfront Toronto (the government task force charged with managing the Sidewalk Labs project) critiqued the proposal in a public letter as “premature.”282
By the end of October, Waterfront Toronto had reached a new agreement with Sidewalk Labs, restricting Sidewalk Labs to the original 12-acre parcel and asserting the government’s role as leading key components of the project.283 The project’s ultimate fate is still undetermined: Waterfront Toronto continues to review the project and will come to a final decision about whether to proceed by March 31, 2020.284
