What did you think of Mortal Kombat X, and the new characters introduced there?
Tumblr media
Never really played it compared to it's predecessor and successor, came out at a time where I had kinda fallen out of keeping up with MK. I did go back to catch up more to it and watch the entire Story Mode and all but, just never really did much for me. I barely even play Mortal Kombat as is and I completely forget this even had a big Story Mode, even now I couldn't tell you anything that happens in it besides Johnny Cage getting tortured by bees and later beating Shinnok, and the D'Vorah parts, because D'Vorah rules obviously.
Still, I like the Variation system, at the time I thought it was a really cool idea and I enjoyed trying these out the few times I played the game. Custom movesets and special variants are allright but I liked the idea of every character having between 3 optional movesets and playstyles to choose from. I also like some of the choices the took with the characters here (what they did with Mileena's teeth was total cowardice though, frankly way worse than killing her off right as they're taking her character somewhere interesting). I definitely appreciate their commitment to creating lots of new characters instead of immediately padding out the roster with the 3D era revamps of has-beens and never-weres
Really it's just the characters I have thoughts on when it comes to these so let's get to them (won't be using any images of them in X and instead just talking about them in general, man was everybody ugly in X now that I'm looking back on it)
Tumblr media
Cassie Cage: ...you know what, she grew on me a bit in MK11. She is pretty much the Mortal Kombat version of Luke and I hated her for most of the same reasons but, 11 had her take the backseat a little and patched up some things and generally made her funny and occasionally cool enough, with some fairly good Fatalities, that she grew on me. I like her better than Sonya, which isn't a lot but it's something.
Jacqui Briggs: Pretty cool, I like her the most out of the new heroes and she got the mother of all glow-ups in 11. I like the contrast between her and Jax and how her moves and gameplay are very different from Jax while also having basically the same powers. I like that she's a kickboxer and that she has no innate magic abilities and instead gets by on enhanced gauntlets and tech, makes it feel like she's always at a lot more risk than the other fighters. I really wish she had more of an identity besides Jax, Jax is great but they overplay it to the point I think it drags her down a bit. Still, easily the best of the new heroes.
Takeda and Kung Jin: They're allright, cool weapons, you could do worse for the first confirmed gay character in Mortal Kombat, but I completely forget these guys exist most of the time, I have their profiles in hand right now and still couldn't tell you much of anything about him. Idk man most of MKX is just a memory hole for me and these guys weren't anywhere close to the most interesting things about it.
Triborg: Not a character so much as an excuse to feature all the cyborg ninjas without having to cram them into a narrative role, and fine, there could be worse ways to go on about it, the cyborg ninjas are a staple of the series with individually fun playstyles, so putting them all together via the Variation system is a practical and good solution. Only really bummer for me is that I like Cyrax as a character quite a bit and would have like for him to stay around, but I get it.
Ferra/Torr: Vaguely uncomfortable? Really don't care much for when Mortal Kombat flirts with fantasy race worldbuilding and I hope Ferra's not supposed to be like, an actual pygmy, we're probably only gonna get clarification when she shows up in MK1. I feel like they could have used an extra turn on the drawing board before being put in game but putting these aside though, pretty allright, borrowing from Mad Max freakshows feels like a no-brainer for MK and they're a fairly novel idea for a fighting game two-in-one character.
Tumblr media
Kotal Kahn: Kotal's pretty great. He's the heart ripper to end all heart rippers a killer design and silhouette, he's got some pretty cool ideas for special moves, he is a fairly great fighting game character design. He's used to glue plenty of separate storyline threads together and he's a very solid midcard character, in that he can and frequently does job to just about anyone but can still get individually cool moments like his takedown of Goro and amazing Fatalities enough to justify him being enough of a threat in-universe to be Emperor. He is fairly novel in being The Next Emperor of Outworld who isn't a wholly evil bastard like Shao, even if he is very much kind of a bastard a lot of the time. Phil Lamarr's excellent voice work does most of the heavy lifting in making him seem a lot more cool and honorable than he actually is.
He isn't really "noble" so much as he's just regal in a cool way, and humble and honorable enough to not be at cross-purposes with the protagonists most of the time or at least own up to his mistakes, and having that bare minimum of decency is enough to make even a murderous heart-eating violent warlord who executes and enslaves people for petty thievery comparatively a great guy next to the ones that came before him, the guy who relinquishes the throne to Kitana as someone who was far better than Shao Kahn, but not good enough to properly heal Outworld from Shao. His romance with Jade is pretty allright as well.
Erron Black: I'm frankly shocked that it took Mortal Kombat that long to add a Cowboy to the roster, seriously you'd think that archetype would have shown up in the wacky MK3 years or something. Erron's pretty great and I feel like his appeal is fairly self-explanatory and everybody's more or less on the same page that he's great, so I don't have as much to say on him. They get a lot of mileage out of him as a wildcard mercenary dirtbag, who is just different enough from Kano and Kabal and the lesser variants of those two that popped up over the years that he works in storylines with, and against them. Obviously his named bullet X-Ray is the sickest shit and they do a surprisingly amount of cool stuff for his moveset, I love that he's a total scavenger and it shows in his specials. Also love his voice work, love how mysterious they keep his background.
Gunslingers tend to get a bad rep in fighting games because of how cheap their options can be, but frankly I think gunslingers nearly always tend to make for cool characters because of how much they have to be designed around game design limitations and having to give them movesets besides The Schut. Erron's easily the most iconic of the new characters and I think he's the only one who's more or less guaranteed to keep showing up, I'd be surprised if they didn't add him to MK1.
Tumblr media
D'Vorah: People have no taste whatsoever, D'Vorah fucking rules completely. If I'll give NRS one thing, is them not capitulating to fan outcry and diminishing her in 11. The fandom went nuts over her killing Mileena in X, and so for the sequel, they let her get away with taunting Shao Kahn to his face about killing his daughter and then killing fucking Scorpion, absolute queen shit.
Women characters designed to look cool and fearsome over looking attractive are already goddamn unicorns in videogame/fighting game economy, and designed to look unapologetically monstrous and unsympathetic and horrifying, let alone all of these in one and more, are much rarer still. But disgusting? A rotting parasitic baby-eating scavenger with flaky, cracked open exoskeleton skin, filthy rags, appendages and spikes everywhere leaking gooey poison, whose belly tears open for her to caress giant maggots before the fight? I don't think any other major fighting game franchise would pull off D'Vorah's design the way they did. She only looks like a naked yellow alien lady from a split-second distance before you actually look at what's going on there, and that dissonance makes her work even better than if she was a shapeless or purely-insectoid monster. She looks just close enough to all the other bikini-clad women that it makes what she actually is and does stand out more.
It's not even like D'Vorah is that much new ground for the series besides her design, because for the most part she is just one among many backstabbing sadists with agendas looking to get a leg up by throwing their lot with the villains (that was basically Mileena's role for the longest time, which is why D'Vorah has to one-up her in grossness and kill her), it's just that unlike Mileena and most of the others, D'Vorah actually gets to follow through with backstabbing fuckers and playing them for chumps instead of getting trampled in the sidelines (and she is beatable, yes, but she's very good at last-minute dirty tricks with bug swarms and poison and scurrying away). She is every bit as much of a disgusting dirtbag heel as Kano tuned in a completely opposite direction from Kano's funnyman sellout antics, driven by a fierce blood loyalty to the hive that she embodies alone and far more capable of killing you than you ever would be towards her
I think D'Vorah is easily best female character design in the series, she's one of the finest heels in fighting games, her Fatalities are some of the best in the series, she is beauty she is grace and her maggots will melt your face, in 11 she's got the cutest voice ever, and I think she should get to kill and feed to her bugs as many of your beloved characters as she wants to. As a treat for her and her babies.

Thoughts on some people’s idea that Kuai should have stayed as Cyborg from Mk9 to Mkx, like I have seen someone even said he should have been brought back in Mk11 as one of the time displaced villains
Fun concept but im fairly happy with what we've got. Cyber Subz was a fun little twist resulting of Raiden trying to prevent things going the same as the og timeline, because it was Smoke that was supposed to be cyberized, but Im content with it being just a plot point in mk9 before he got his body back in the netherrealm and his character development and all intertwined with his go another way.
That being said tho. I DO wish Cyber Subz came back (even as just a boss character like Cyrax & Sektor but with some of Subz's moves) in mk11 because
1) the time of the times converging was at the same time he JUST got cyberized,
2) it wouldve been another nice parallel to Hanzo dealing with his own past self Scorpion, at a time where neither Hanzo nor Kuai were humans (Well technically Kuai is under the cybernetics but he had no free will you get my point), and would've been like, Kuai confronting another one of his past demons
Plus Cyber Subz is not only the first time out of three (grinding my teeth) where he lost his free will, but its also the most personal one, because its directly a lin kuei matter, which involves him intimely, while the revenant stuff and kamidogu are less personal
3) I know chapter 4 is technically Kuai's chapter with Hanzo as literal moral support, but having him fight Cyber Subz wouldve given him... idk something more, a little window on Kuai as a character seeing him interact with himself at one of his worst.
Plus, all the character to fight in Fire&Ice have not only a personal relationship with Kuai but also kinda are from important points of his character arc? Like Bi-han/Noob is from his beginning as his own character and him becoming the definitive Sub Zero after defeating him, Cyrax & Sektor are from his beginning as Grandmaster and the rebirth and redemption of the Lin Kuei, and Frost the consequences of all his decisions leading him to where he is now (she had her own ambitions of course but her betrayal was also fueled by him making peace with the Shirai Ryu). Past Present Future yknow yknow. Poetry. Chronologically, Cyber Subz happened before all that, placing it almost at the very start of his story, just at the end of his "You killed my brother. Prepare to die." arc. So really hammering the "Past" part of this.
And finally Im going to sound so obnoxious but yknow that "Face your enemy. Face your fear. Face yourself" from mk95? well it kinda fit here with "Face your enemy" referring to Cyrax and Sektor with Cyrax being the result of the Cyber Lin Kuei initiave aka stripped of free will, and Sektor being the cause of it, he corrupted the Lin Kuei. "Face your fear" you could maybe put Bi-han and Frost here because he's literally facing family (yes Im counting Frost because come on, he gave her a home, was his mentor, considered her to be his heir, and they have the same cryomancer ancestors) that turned against him and want him dead despite the affection he has for them (another character you couldve put in this category wouldve been Tomas. #BringBackSmoke), and finally "Face yourself" and well, if you add Cyber Subz to mk11, I dont have to draw you the picture. Poetry.

How would I fix MK 11?
For those who don’t know, I made a 41 point list of questions I got from watching MK11′s story, and I got into an exchange with another user over said points. (https://swindle94.tumblr.com/post/186753421775/the-questions-raised-in-mk11s-story-mode ) I found that many flaws with the story as it had unfolded, and while I admit that a fair few of them were, in fact, nitpicks or even a little mad, I’m Still a little hung up on some of them. So in that spirit, Here’s just a general, jumbled and random bullet point list of what I’d do to the story of 11 if you put my happy ass in the writer’s desk, and perhaps a design ideas desk before 4thsnake gets to it. 1. I’d make Kronika’s powers more consistent, or at least explain why they seem inconsistent. Maybe lay out what she’s “Said” to be able to do, and then she can have a kind of epic “Turns out I can also do this.” Moment. Or maybe explain that after going through so many timelines (in some of which it is implied she almost lost/died) Her sanity is genuinely just going away.  2. I’d add more factions and make the whole game a mad scramble to recruit everyone possible, certain actions in the story recruiting one group in the place of another. Red Dragon, Seidans, Zetarrens, The Naknada as a people, Cryomancers, Vampires, Riders (Ferra/Torr), etc.  -An example would be something like Going to the Naknada or the Seidan resistance and “Taking out” the other’s leader, who would end up escaping and joining Kronika. It would add at least a little flavor to subsequent playthroughs, always culminating in this massive charge of various different factions.  3. Smoke, Sindel, Stryker, and Nightwolf are actually in this, but maybe establish that since Raiden’s threat at the end of X there was some sort of schism between them and Liu’s people, and maybe they abandoned their hate and whatever kept them impure using Nightwolf’s guidance, possibly Ashra’s, they lead some sort of heavenly army in the battle against Kronika. 4. I’d throw in a few past versions of more characters. Like Cyrax and Sektor? Maybe Cyber Kuai Liang? Really Establish that all these past versions of characters are from wildly different timelines. Ones where they still have MK9-ish attitudes toward being cyberized, But maybe have them alter their feelings as the story goes, Cyrax and Sub-Zero freeing their cyborg selves from Mecha Sektor’s literally iron grasp on their minds, showing past Sektor that the Cyberizing should have been, if nothing else, less all-consuming.  5. Dark Raiden stays. Can we just agree that him up and vanishing by chapter 2 was a bloody waste? DR bouncing off his past self would have been gold. He’s more willing to make deals with more devils than Kronika just to protect Earthrealm and its people.  6. I’d make the Naknada from Seido instead of Outworld, We’ve seen so little of that realm that a new species not being in what you explore in Deception makes at least some sense, at the very least it would be better than Outworld having yet another species of humanoids just waltzing about.  7. Just make Noob the past one. Maybe add the current one in as a sort of envoy for the gods, that would have been interesting. Noob from the past sees what he can become and just thinks his other, “Holy” self is weak, IDK, but this basically just how I’d explain away where TF he’s been all this time, the gods have been purifying and training him. It’d be a decent answer at least.  8. I mentioned establishing that all the past characters are from wildly different timelines... Why not throw in ones that are “Very likely” the one from the current timeline, so if something happens to that one, shit would get real? It’s just a case of figuring out which one is from a similar line and which one is actually your past self one to one.  I will grant that this has the most potential to just make things way more confusing or annoying but TBH It also has the most comedic potential and the most for some really intense fight scenes in the game.  9. I’d have Liu Kang’s Revenant not steal his own soul. I’d straight up have them fuse together during a fight. The two of them and the Raidens fusing into a master of storms and flame. Two versions of Mortal Kombat’s Champion and Two lightning gods, corrupt as two of them are, would make for one utterly devastating warrior, especially if the idea just comes to Raiden in the middle of a battle. (Basically just slightly altering Fire God Liu Kang’s origin, I admit)  10. I’d bring Mileena back and maybe have her join Kitana’s side after Kahn’s death. 11. I’d have Kano explain that “Every Market” line a little better. Those are most of the big ones, I’d appreciate some thoughts.  Little Edit: 12. The boats. I’d definitely change that a little, have Kronika’s plan still involve tying up Kharon and all that, but I wouldn't have Cetrion randomly building this bridge over the blood sea, just establish that Kronika can make her own boats, but Kharon is the only non-titan at the moment who can fairy the forces of light.

Things I like about MK11:
The story had some pretty strong moments and threw me for a lot of loops (and I like being surprised)
Approximately 5837462849 different customization options for appearance alone
I FINALLY KNOW WHAT ERRON'S FACE LOOKS LIKE
Raiden seriously did his damnedest to be better than his take-no-shit counterpart (both in the story and in his tower ending) AND I LOVE HIM
Of course, the return of some fan favorite fighters
Liu Kang and Kitana finally got to be together again (and not as revenants)
Things I do not like about MK11 (an unfortunately much longer list):
D'Vorah's existence (I think she's cool as hell to play as, but she's just a massive BITCH)
Kano's existence (I have no buts about this one)
Rhonda Rousey's performance (which is apparently a popular complaint already)
Shao Kahn must be purchased despite being a fairly important story component
Many characters that I enjoy are not playable at all and are barely (if ever) even mentioned in passing in the story or tower endings
That being said, a common excuse I hear for them not being playable is "well it's because they're dead" so how come Baraka is here and Reptile is not??? Why couldn't Kronika's time shit bring back Mileena but it had no problem bringing back Non-Revenant Jade or Kung Lao?
KENSHI AND ERMAC ARE FUCKING DEAD AND I HAD TO DESECRATE THEIR CORPSES FOR TREASURE
Erron does not use his good ol' rooty-tooty-point-n-shooty pistols nearly as often as he should (and honestly I just really don't like the rifle)
They plan to put Shang Tsung in the game with the ability to transform into the cyborgs that we don't get to play as in the first place. Just give us the actual characters pls, it's like Great Value™ Baraka Tarkatan Xenomorph part 2
I was excited to see what they would do with Skarlet in the story, because before she was little more than just Blood: The Character™ and I'm really disappointed that they didn't give her more substance and background
I don't terribly mind the direction they took with Frost but the fact that she is now also cybernetic is just really unsettling for some reason?? Also I wish there was some sort of redemption arc for her (but I haven't seen her tower ending yet so I dunno if that's already been done)
I feel like this game set out to tie up loose ends, fill holes, and answer questions left from previous installments, but in doing so opened up 5926495 more holes
I know that the creators intended for this game to be a sort of gateway to make a new game with an entirely fresh roster, but suddenly chalking it up to the existence of a veritable super god who is responsible for every event that ever happens in the series just feels like a really cop-outty way to do it
Also how the hell do they expect to make a game with an entirely unfamiliar cast when Scorpion and Sub-Zero are literally the faces of the Mortal Kombat franchise
I legit do not know how to feel about Raiden being mortal. I mean I understand he gave up his immortality to Liu Kang for a good reason, but like. Raiden is literally ripped straight from Japanese mythology/religion. How can you have what is supposed to be the thunder god when he cannot do thunder god things 🤔
Jade and Kotal. LISTEN. I have no qualms with either of these characters themselves. I think Jade is cool as hell and I like Kotal's character too. But why are they together? There is jack diddly SQUAT about how they know each other, why they grew to love each other, etc etc. Like look I have no issue with brand new romance plots in my fighting games, fuck I love Takeda and Jacqui together, but at least I knew why they liked each other and how they came to be so close and saw all the things they went through together. I'm sure I'd love Jade and Kotal too but I just don't understand why those two specifically are a thing. It feels like a very forced romantic subplot for the sake of... romantic subplot. ¯\_(ツ)_/¯ ?????
Being able to only use X-Rays (pardon me, Fatal Blows) once per match, and only at low health. Was the problem that X-Rays could be used too frequently? That the meter could be wasted if blocked or missed? Why not just give the same cool-down period then, without the one-time usage limitation thing?
There are probably many more I could complain about but I honestly do not have the energy for it atm

Frost’s new design: Modernism and Technology
Tumblr media
I'm someone who's been following the rumors about Frost making into the MK11 roster, but not in the way I expected before. Watched youtubers pointing out little details they saw in one of the trailers. And that mysterious character who's face is not visible, is no other than Frost. Is not strange to me that she will be working aside Kronika, she might have clear intentions (power and leadership), is not a character that dreams small, she goes all the way and her moral compass is, well, not as the same as Kuai Liang, since both are polar opposites, representing the good and the bad of possessing chilling powers.
Yesterday, we got a leaked preview of how this cryomancer looked like, and there are certain details that gives us some kind of interesting info (that might be obvious to some of you).
Tumblr media
Frost is one of the characters who received a drastic change, specially because of her new kind of nature. Now a cyborg, she presents a different kind of aesthetic, doesn't look like the past cyber ninjas we had in previous games, she stands out noticeably for many reasons.
This new design present lots of details, I might say that is one of those that have more intricate details than any other character (besides Cetrion, Geras or the revenants). There are lots of curved lines around, basically, everywhere, all around her body, and also we have a different type of color palette this time. For some strange reason, the fact that it has so much curves, it gives some sort of more stylized vibe in juxtaposition to Sub-Zero's design (that is kind of a modern take of the classic of the ninja we had in past games, from my point of view, it’s heavily inspired by the MKDA main skin), plus her design seems inspired (a little bit) by the Art Nouveau/Art Deco aesthetic. And here we can see some examples:
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
As we can see here, this artistic movement cares so much about the usage of the curved lines and to make it look as beautiful as it can, based on the fluidity of elements we can find in nature (such as vegetation and water). And these characteristics can be found in Frost's new design, but this usage of curves is lightly interrupted to those light blue neon lines with the golden ones on her mask.
Tumblr media
And that design looks really close to what we see in the Art Deco architecture/patterns:
Tumblr media
If we compare this common design with her mask, we can find some similarities. For example the fact that the lines looked like they are "opening", coming all from one certain common point, the colors is another example (is very common to see designs with a black background, with either white or golden lines like this). They are much more structured and symmetrical than what we have seen previously in this post.
Another thing we should pay attention to is the color palette. Frost has always been using the typical Lin Kuei color scheme: blue and black (with little hints of silver in MKX). In the last game, Frost used an attire that seemed closer to Sub-Zero’s default skin than the rest of the Lin Kueis, all of them have the same clothes on, except for Frost, and it could be because of her status in the clan (let’s remember that she was a Chief, which means she has a higher status than the rest of members of the clan, with Kuai-Liang as the Grandmaster, which is literally at the top of the pyramid). As we can see, that changed drastically, because Frost probably will proclaim herself as the Grandmaster of the Cyber Lin Kueis, and is clear by the color she uses about the importance she holds.
The colors she has now are: white, blue, light blue, black and neon blue.
First, the color blue persists in her design, since this color in the MK universe is like a representative color for the cryomancers, literally, this color represents the temperature (that would explain why Scorpion, a character who uses fire, uses yellow clothes). The color blue persist but now we see lighter shades.
Also, now we have white and gold. Since we have Kronika as the new enemy boss, and she forms a team and the members use colors that are influenced by her own aesthetic (Geras and old Jax (in that other skin from the trailer) share almost the same color scheme, with a bit of white, gold or even silver in their armors). Plus, the fact that Kronika uses these colors is because they are linked to divinity, she is a superior deity with a tremendous power. To have an idea, here is an example of how white and gold is displayed with religious intentions:
Tumblr media
Even though Kronika and her main team aren’t directly influenced by the “over the top” details from the Baroque architecture (in this case we have a picture of the Chapel from the Winter Palace in St. Petersburg), the display of white and gold is often linked to divinity and purity, to God and Heaven, So with Frost this works almost the same, we don’t only perceive the superiority of her status for the Cyber Lin Kuei, but we also can perceive the direct connection between her and Kronika (I still don’t know how their relationship is gonna be, but is really obvious that these two have some stuff in common).
Another important thing I noticed is that Frost has this thing on her chest, that looks different in both pictures (the one from the selection screen looks more technological and in the other is made of metallic materials). My theory is that it could be the representation of the Dragon Medallion, let’s remember that she stole it from Sub-Zero in the original timeline but the power of this artifact was too much for her, and failed with her objetive of leading the clan.
I don’t know what is going to happen with her in the story mode, but I’m really excited to see how everything turns out in the end. Anyway, this is a personal observation.

infinite-xerath replied to your post “There’s rumors that Mileena won’t make it in to MK11 and that makes me...”
Didn't that bug chick kiss her to death?))
Yes, D’Vorah did in fact kill Mileena in MKX, however that doesn’t really mean she’s dead. While it should be taken in to account that arcade ladder endings aren’t always canon, at the end of Mileena’s ladder she’s shown to have a hive mind clone army in the thousands.
Now let’s just assume that this isn’t canon. All of the interactions between characters in game pre fight are canon, for the most part. Save things like guest fighters like Jason. In MKX, Tremor (who also died I believe) remarks how “in the dream realm you (Mileena) are reborn”, but “in this one (the real realm), you are dead.”
Not only that, but the story line of MK11 has heavily to do with time travel/manipulation, presumably to the point where many characters who are dead/changed will come back, like how Smoke may be back to his MK9 version as opposed to his cyborg self that he was in MKX.

Kenshi makes three.
Time travel story involving Kronika avoids the plot of deception and Armageddon. Shujinko is made into an arcade ending where he is killed by Cassie. Those games stories are avoided except for the 3 or 4 plot points that people did like. Those plot points were also expanded upon which made Kenshi better and made his son relevant. His son is also the better character. Some of the ps2 characters were good with slight alterations but that doesn’t change the fact that the rest were bad. Nobody cares about characters like Cobra and Havok is killed off in a comic and never referenced in game. None of the characters from the realm of order are even mentioned.
Your emphasis on males leads me to believe that you think the problem is mainly the lack of clothing. Showing skin isn’t the problem the outfits are terrible and that applies to the men as well. Lui Kang looks the best he ever has in Mk11 same with Johnny Cage. NRS learned early on that pallet swaps are garbage and made all the male ninjas look different but took their sweet time with the ladies. That’s horny interfering. Scarlet in mk11 is miles better designed than mk9. It’s not the lack of skin that does it it’s the uniqueness of the character. She isn’t red Katana anymore. You like Ermacs new skin right? Why shouldn’t that apply to the lady palette swap ninjas?
Most of Mk9’s story is just slight changes to mk1-3 like Sub zero being turned into a cyborg instead of smoke and Johnny Cage not beating Goro. The big changes like Sindel murdering most of the cast and Lui Kang vs Raiden happens at the end of the game. The reasons for the tournaments like the invasion and character lore like the cyber initiative come from mk1-3. If I go back and rewrite Romeo and Juliet to have them kill each other at the end that wouldn’t make it a brand new story. Mk9 takes the good from Mk1-3 and removes some of the bad plot points like Johnny Cage being killed by extermination squads.
Noob saibot not being in mkx doesn’t mean he wasn’t a character everybody likes. Same applies to Takeda. There’s only so many character that could make it to the base roster. Takeda is most likely dlc.
Anybody notice that the moment Mortal Kombat stopped being horny the gameplay characters and story got better?

//Okay guys, remember the other day I ranted over some skins I considered... ugly? Horrible? Terrible to the eye? Well, now it here comes the opposite to that.
The skins that I love the most:
Tumblr media
Cryomistress:
Tumblr media
This triad of colors is just *chef kiss*. Black, teal, and white fit her so well, we’re kinda used to see Frost in dark colors (except that in mk11 they went for white instead of black but I guess it was to fit better with the whole “Kronika aesthetic” thing), and this time they went for teal instead of blue, which kinda makes some balance between black and white, also it goes along with those parts of her armor that glow around her body. The effect that creates along with the gold parts makes it even more unique, even sophisticated. I’m glad they went for teal instead for the blue honestly.
Tumblr media
Fight or Freeze:
Tumblr media
So we have deep magenta, a weird tone of lavender and white... and generally, when we think about what kind of palette would go with Frost, pink (or magenta or any other color along that line) is the least color that we think it would suit her... is kind of strange to see her using a palette so different from what we have in mind, like, her whole canon aesthetic is reserved to cold colors (*baduum tss*), and this change is weird, but it works for some reason.
Tumblr media
New Era:
Tumblr media Tumblr media
Suprachiasmatic:

Will I ever get over how much I love to see this cyborg in white and light neon cyan? The answer is never. For real. Between these two skins I believe they could have been a better choice for the story mode, like, look at the presence it gives, the balance of colors, the touches of gold, it gives her a whole personality and power that her default doesn’t give. Is still attached to the “Kronika aesthetic” but with a slight touch of classic ninja cyborg somehow. Is just too sublime, and seriously, NRS should consider between these colors (white or light cyan) to make them her brand colors, perhaps add black in the middle too, it depends, but it surprised me how good it goes with her and the general aesthetic, also, it would make a big difference from her and Kuai.

Okay I gotta be honest, I added this one mostly because of the name (pretty powerful name tbh...), but leaving the name aside, this skin comes with a little game in it. Besides having some touches of white, the blue that this skin has stands out waaaay more than her default skin, even more, it looks like the blue she’s wearing is much closer to the tone that Sub-Zero has in his default skin. Which makes sense too. Also, not so long ago, I explained how Frost and Sub-Zero represent the Yin & Yang, not only in characterization but also in aesthetic, and Sub-Zero tends to use mostly black and Frost white (then you connect the dots and blah blah). So this skin is there, giving us an idea of how she would look like if taking the mantle of Grandmistress (and the funny thing is that there’s a skin called ‘True Sub-Zero’ with the same palette too).
