One night, while you're snuggled up with him in the nest, you say to him in a low, muffled voice: "I'm sorry."

"Why?" he replies, confused.

"It's just that I haven't been able to give you a baby yet." Broken, shattered, all this time, and you felt that way too?

The two of you talk it over.

It hurts you that he felt that way. Of course you want a baby for yourself as much as for him. But you wouldn't want it with anyone else. You only want it because... if it exists... it will be his, and yours, a baby of both of you.

please keep doing the right thing by not calling out this or any other imitators of your art. if they're not impersonating you, deceiving people about whose artworks were made/posted first, or threatening your livelihood (which is a wholly seperate issue of economics), there's no material damage being done here. that just leaves the shitty feelings you get from being aware of the imitation, and i have faith that you can get over those and move on with your life.

fact: your art is technically skillful and broadly appealing to tumblrites both in style and subject (big fandoms, popular ships, familiar tropes and ideas). that's why it's popular.

fact: social media incentivizes creators to post whatever content gets the most engagement and viewers to engage with the same kinds of content over and over, regardless of who copied who.

fact: the only thing no one else can copy is the fact that your art was made by *you*. if that's not enough for you to feel secure in the inherent value of what you make, i'm afraid there's an part of you that fears that your work is replaceable.

the discomfort and "creepiness" you talk about sounds like you're stuck in zero-sum mindset: this person can only gain something by taking it away from *you*. and that's just not true. what do you feel you're "losing" to them in this competition? praise? attention? social media points? money (see above)? unpack that.

fact: your art will be harder to imitate and less attractive to imitators if you get weirder and more experimental with it. which i would love to see, btw.

i appreciate this !! but also i should clarify: i'm not upset because i'm jealous of this person getting attention or i feel like i'm 'losing' to them in any way. i'm very secure in my own work now and if this was a stranger i probably wouldn't care as much. this is not any kind of 'threat' to me and the amount that this affects my actual life is very minimal

i'm upset because this is someone who i gave the benefit of the doubt and actually befriended, who went from taking small stylistic choices i made to potentially ripping off entire characters/comics that i wrote, and did it to my face. and i don't think it's an overreaction for me to be weirded out by that

Making Incorrect H:SR Quotes Until I Run Out of (hopefully) Original Ideas - Pt. 1 - Ratiorine Messages Edition

I really really like that lucanis reaches the 'there must be some way through this' realization 'off camera', so to speak, while presumably looking at rook explaining the situation to spite. it just. hits right. he gets that moment to himself after 'this place is a nightmare, why would I want to stay here' to come back into focus, to gather himself and think it through in peace, outside of the demands of anyone’s gaze (including the player’s!), while rook takes care of spite’s confusion and urgency and distress as he can’t himself in this shattered state. they're inside his soul, but he still gets that moment of privacy, with rook and spite there and supporting but not intruding. idk there's just something so good and right-feeling about it. rook's presence in lucanis' mind at its most vulnerable and frozen could have felt SO invasive if the quest wasn't written as skillfully as it is, and I get skeeved out by that kind of thing incredibly easily so it's a testament to how well it's done that it always feels safe and supportive. lucanis has had both his bodily and psychological (slash spiritual/existential) integrity and autonomy violated so brutally and repeatedly, and having even the way the camera perceives him here grant him the dignity and respect and privacy of soul he hasn’t experienced in a long time… it’s a whole thing huh. No wonder it’s taken me a while to put it into words lol 

(also what a contrast to what solas and rook have got going on, and what a sly way to slide the point of comparison in there to build to the thematic whole. the solas version of this IS of course wildly invasive and skeeves me out but in the intended delighted horror movie way. solas, too, was let into someone’s soul through the cracks in the wake of a traumatic event, and he IMMEDIATELY sought to turn it to his own benefit and use that trauma as a weapon against them fhdsja I’m sorry but it’s just such a character-revealing instinct for him to act on without hesitation and I love how terrible he is, it’s all so unforgivably premeditated and consistent.

rook acting out of the desire to make sure lucanis is ok vs. solas going ‘well. When life gives you oops killed my friend, make dead friend poisoned lemonade and make his loved ones drink it. this sunk cost fallacy isn’t going to perpetuate itself’ is such a neat contrast and it’s not in your face about it but it’s still there, deep and solid down in the thematic narrative. rook doesn’t do anything to or in lucanis’ mind, really — they negotiate their way through the layers of defense and are let through, and they help him make the whole thing more explicable, but they never exert any force or go rooting around for anything that doesn’t present itself to them first. solas goes about gathering ammo for when he's going to nothing personel kid this person from like the first moment fhdskh doesn't waste a second before he's on that gaslight gatekeep girlboss grind. the fact that the game goes out of its way to show there IS a respectful, non-selfish and kind version of this process makes what solas is doing even more deliciously awful (glee) and rook and lucanis’ relationship (platonic, romantic, whatever it might be in any given playthrough) all the more moving to me)

headcanon that sophie slips into english sometimes when she's surprised or startled or otherwise overtaken by a strong emotion. mostly when she's the first one to speak, or she uses a phrase that doesn't have an elvin translation (as a sort of parallel to how sophie can't translate some spoken elvin phrases). she has no idea though since she canonically has a hard time telling english and elvin apart.

things that would be entertaining to throw this into:

part of why fitz gives her surprise hugs and gifts so often is because a small part of him is hoping for a little "oh my god!" and he really likes that he's one of relatively few people she knows that can translate it

it is EXTREMELY funny to fitz to alternate between using elvin and english in a conversation w/ her and watch her unconsciously flip between the two depending on what she last heard. (sophie foster is literally the only elf ever that could confuse the two, w/ how different the languages are.) it is also one of his favorite methods for spoiling biana's fun when he suspects she's trying to spy on them

sometimes sophie starts ranting in english without realizing it. it only makes her angrier when she gets blank stares from, say, sandor, and then she storms off. they have no idea what the deal is, but those were some angry consonants.

the polyglot aspects of keefe's brain mostly interprets language by "oh that's writing" and "oh i heard that" and "oh i guess that other thing means something". which sometimes looks like sophie throwing her papers down and exclaiming something in english only for him to counter in egyptian and them going back and forth like that for a while and then keefe asking a question he saw on a french sign once, and then you check in on them again ten minutes later and they're...using australian sign language? as far as keefe's concerned they only made one language switch (spoken "enlightened" to sign), and everyone else is like. no. (sophie can canonically tell english and french apart.)

ik it's not spoken, but i think that when sophie's writing for herself, she writes in english since that's what she grew up w/. and sometimes mixes up writing in standard elvin versus black swan cypher runes. so sometimes people in study hall are like "hey can i see your notes for multispecial studies?" and she goes "hopefully you can read my handwriting" and passes over an extremely cryptic mix of 'human' and 'rebel runes'. they pass it back to her wordlessly and uh, where'd all the rumors about writing in code for confidentiality come from...?

dex knows a decent amount of english from his mom's romcom movies, but he's not quite fluent like fitz or sophie. so sometimes the best he can do is pick out pieces he understands, attempt to fill in the blanks, and attempt to pick the best movie quote for the situation. it is social russian roulette at its finest and has derailed multiple team valiant meetings
